I had so much fun reading this book. A real fun romcom with realistic, strong characters that you would want to be friends with in real life. Absolutely would recommend and I can’t wait to revisit the other characters in future books.
Not the Witch You Wed is steamy - doors wide open, it’s getting hot in here steamy. Violet is the firstborn of a witch triad but up until now, she’s been powerless. Lincoln, an alpha wolf shapeshifter, is her teenage love and now sort of enemy. To buy time before they are forced into a bond with another supernatural, the two decide to fake date. But will fake dating lead to real feelings?
What I liked: The story, while a little predictable, held my attention and I wanted to see how Lincoln and Violet moved forward. The chemistry between the main characters sparkles and you can see the beginnings of setups for future books.
While I think there needs to be some background on the rules and what different supernaturals can do in this universe, I still felt engaged with what Violet and Lincoln were trying to build.
What didn’t work for me: Lincoln calls Violet “Princess” a lot and I get it’s a love name but also aughhh make it stop. There’s some pretty cheesy sayings like “hex me” that come up a lot.
I wish there was more explanation of how supernaturals and norms came to live together with two separate forms of government and rules.
Who should read it: if you’re still clinging to Halloween but like me don’t want something scary. Contemporary romance fans that like a little fantasy world building.
This reads like the start of a series and I will definitely read book two.
Thank you St Martin and NetGalley for my
Gifted copy.
Huge thanks to St. Martin’s Press for my early copy!
I absolutely loved this one! I fell in love with after a few chapters. The world building was fantastic. I loved the descriptive details.
Vi was just brilliant. She just cracked me up. I loved the dynamics between Vi, her friends, and her sisters.
Vi and Linc were absolutely perfect. I loved how their relationship evolved.
I didn’t want to the book to end. I’m really hoping this will be a series!
This was a cute read. Not an intense plot but still interesting- quick read. Considering it is a romance the spice wasn’t super good. It was quick and not very descriptive. Sweet story with a HEA.
3.5, rounded up. I'm not usually a big second-chance romance fan, but there's less pining in this one and more hilarity and action, so for me this was a hugely entertaining story that I was able to read quickly. Asher throws a lot of information and supernatural-related rules at the reader at the beginning of the book, which was a little surprising, but I was able to pick up on everything after reading a bit more. I appreciated Violet as a strong, intelligent heroine who comes into her own regarding her magic and figuring out her place in the world--and, of course, she's able to tell off Lincoln and other folks at the appropriate moments.
This was my last read of Spooky Season, and I'd recommend it to those looking for a fun paranormal romance that doesn't take itself too seriously.
this book was SOOO CUTE!
a contemporary, paranormal romance between a witch and a wolf shifter, I didn't know I would love it as much as I do. the characters were witty, and the banter was adorable. The fake dating trope may be a new favorite for me, it was done so well in this book. We also get viewpoints from both Violet and Lincoln. I definitely hope each of the other side characters gets their own novels because I loved them! The friendships were wonderful and bonus points for a male bestie who is not included for a love triangle trope but just AN ACTUAL FRIENDSHIP. It did have some spicy, steamy scenes as well. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves quirky and fun romances, and fast reads!
thank you to Ntegalley and St Martins for the E-Arc in exchange for my honest review.
Very fun romantic fantasy! I enjoyed the humor and the characters. Very quick read and felt like candy to eat.
A curvy, smart-mouth witch. An alpha and leader of his pack and a marriage bond. What more can you ask for. Violet is the magic-less triplet who has determined she won't be the leader of her family even tho she's the oldest. She's used to people counting her out. Linc has a bad past with violet and he's avoiding her for years. However, he's always drawn to her. So why not mutual help each other out. This is an enemy to lovers to enemies to fake dating... Violet and Linc have great chemistry and wanted. It's a funny, charming love story.
This books was super fun and compulsively readable! I can't wait for the others in the series. The world Asher has created here is so much fun. I loved the cast of supernatural characters and the social and political structures the characters faced and in some cases wanted to change. The whole world felt very well constructed and thought out, which isn't always the case in more romcom leaning books like this, but I really appreciated it. I got very attached to all the side characters and I can't wait to see who gets the focus in the next book!
This was a really cute paranormal romance. Lincoln and Violet were so cute together and I loved the supernatural world that April Asher created for these characters. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
So I am so glad that I was able to read this book. I had so much fun reading about Violet Maxwell’s feisty personality and her feud with Lincoln Thorne. This book reminded me somewhat of The Ex Hex (which I adored). The world building in this book was fascinating and I loved the authors writing style and the way she conveyed the attitude and snark of Violet.
I did feel that the plot switched from a “enemies to lovers” theme to “insta love” which was not my favorite thing but it was written well. I also thought that the foreshadowing for her next book was fairly obvious/heavy.
Let me just say that I would love to explore the world that April Asher has created. This is the first time that I have read a book that she has written and I feel like she has some raw talent and has really started a brilliant series. The author had some brilliant ideas and has great skill of making her characters relatable as well as addictive.
This was such a cute read - and perfect for spooky season!
Violet Maxwell is the oldest sibling in a set of triplet witches. However, she is the Maxwell “dud” - she’s a magic less witch. Violet has spent her life trying to fly under the radar of the Supernatural Council. That is, until they force her to enter into a Witch Bond within three months.
Lincoln Thorne is a wolf shifter and the Alpha to the North American Pack of shifters. He’s trying to make real change in the shifter community, but has a deadline of his 33rd birthday to take a mate.
To fix each others issue, Violet and Lincoln begin fake dating, at least to make the Supernatural Council happy. However, with history between the two, there are quickly emotions added to their faking dating plan.
The shenanigans that ensue while the two try to hide their feelings from each other and those around them had me turning pages.
I also really liked the women’s empowerment in this - and how Violet didn’t want a mate and stands up to the Supernatural Council to get out of requiring a Witch Bond.
While I loved Violet and Lincoln - and totally shipped these two characters, I absolutely adored the side characters in this book and am thrilled that this is going to be a series, because I want to spend more time with them! Violet’s sisters seriously stole every scene they were in, and Lincoln’s second in command needs his own story!
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion. Not the Witch you Wed releases February 2022.
This was so cute!
I loved the world-building, the found family, the fake dating, and the exciting plot. I also loved how magical yet scary the stakes were to this romance. I'm so hoping there will be more books set in this world of angels, demons, witches, and shifters.
This was a light but steamy paranormal read, shades of "True Blood" without the darkness, with some "Charmed" tossed in. One of the better romances in the latest craze of witch meet-cutes. Violet and Lincoln sucked me in, and the world building was pretty good, fleshed out just enough for our understanding. The fake dating trope works here and last longer than other books trying to pull off the same thing (only to have it crumble all of a few chapters in). Some plot points you see coming but a good romance makes you excited for them, anyway. Some pretty funny (even hilarious) banter, and a nice set up for what looks like three more books in the series. Looking forward to them!
(P.S.: I *do* want this for a LibraryReads pick; I just don't want to share my email address.)
Not the Witch you Wed, had me glued to my seat and laughing throughout the whole book.
The world building in this book is top notch. We’re in a world where Sups and Norms live side and side and are aware of each other. This gives this whole book a very fresh feeling. Violet and Lincoln have hilarious banter, especially since they start out as enemies.
“We have this special thing between us, sweetheart. It’s called mutual agitation. If I wasn’t pissing you off, we would be us.”
This was really such a fun story, when I wasn’t laughing, I couldn’t keep the smile off my face. The chemistry was top notch, with plenty of heat. The side characters were superb, and I hope we continue to see more them. I cannot wait to read more in the series!
Oh so much fun! Triplet witches destined for greatness except the firstborn is Magic-less and steps aside from her rightful place in the Order of Things. The world building in NOT THE WITCH YOU WED is playful and well-developed, the characters are gorgeous and the plot, while not exactly shocking, is definitely entertaining. Our shape shifting Alpha is every bit as charming as our witch deserves, as she slowly morphs from caterpillar to butterfly. This is one joy of a book and hopefully the start of a series. I received my copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
This is the first paranormal romance that I've actually finished and I do think I need a bit more exposure to the genre since I was generally confused about the whole political aspect of this book. I could follow the magic/supernatural characters, but the politics were just ???? to me the entire time.
I liked Violet and Lincoln together, but the fake dating was really only fake for a short time and wasn't the best fake dating plot I've read. It also is a second chance romance which is not my favorite.
Overall, this one didn't really work for me, but I did like the side characters and some of the humor/one liners at the end were great (that princess diaries joke had me cackling). I would only read another book in this series if it followed Harper bc she was my fave.
Violet Maxwell is a witch who has no power. Alpha Wolfe, Lincoln Thorne once broke her heart so she wants nothing to do with him. However, they are forced to get together by an old Supernatural Law. They agree to pacify the law and decide they can fake–date.
Hmmm things get interesting!
I always enjoy reading the Author’s Acknowledgements and in this case the
“Supernatural Singles World Glossary” had me laughing out loud!
Want to thank NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press ~ St. Martin’s Griffin for this eGalley. This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for an honest professional review.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for February 8, 2022.
This was such a fun book with a great sense of humor. I looked forward to each new chapter title and enjoyed all the pop culture references. Lincoln is a wolf shape shifter, and Violet is a witch who doesn't have magical powers. Theirs is a second chance romance with fake dating and magic.
It took me a little bit to sort out how supernaturals worked in this story world and who the different characters were. But seeing the work Lincoln does to try to change the social structure helped me understand it. And it added a complexity that can serve as a critique of our own society.
I also really appreciated that the book celebrated a curvy heroine. Too often curvy women in books struggle with their looks, and that becomes a key plot point. Violet loved her curves and was seen as beautiful.
I had such fun with this witchy read, and I hope for more books in this world.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.
I was excited about the premise of this romance, and thought I would be entertained by the witch/werewolf dynamic along with the second-chance romance vibe. While I did find some parts amusing, I just couldn’t quite connect with the characters and the romance fell a bit flat for me. Still a fun read, just didn’t click the way I hoped it would.
