I LOVED this witchy and supernatural tale! I really appreciate a book where all the magic is out in the open because magical secrecy can get kind of old. Violet and Linc are a delightful couple. I look forward to reading more books in this series!
I am always on the lookout for new paranormal books and when I saw this one featured one of my favorite troupes, fake dating, I had to snap it up.
Violet is a witch with (seemingly) no powers and Lincoln is an alpha wolf shifter. Violet and Lincoln were involved in high school but ended the fling on bad terms. Now Violet holds a grudge but Lincoln sees an opportunity to get close to Violet again.
Typically, I'm not a huge fan of second-chance romances, but with the paranormal and fake dating troupes also strong, I decided to give this one a whirl. The book is outlandishly funny, with quirky characters, sharp tongues, and crazy circumstances. I am a huge fan of sarcastic banter and I loved every second of those encounters.
All in all, I enjoyed the book and look forward to more from the author if not more in this series.

I love a fun romance and fake dating is one of my favorite tropes, so this book was a lot of fun to read!
Not the Witch You Wed is a book that you can read no matter the time of year.
Violet Maxwell doesn't have magic and doesn't care to be around archenemy wolf shifter Lincoln. Times are about to change though as the two of them NEED to fake date to fake mate.
This is the WORST thing that may happen to Violet, especially when she gets her magical powers. But no magic powers are going to keep these two from falling in love.
I enjoyed reading Not the Witch You Wed! Other fans of romantic comedy reads will enjoy the first of a series from April Asher. Filled with spice and everything nice, this book hits the mark!
I forgot to post the review of this book. I did read it and it was such a fun, whimsical book to read. I enjoyed Lincoln and Violet connecting on and off. Fake dating turns to real feelings was magical for them both. I just enjoyed the frustrations, love, and comedy between everything that was happening. It was just a fun good read.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
I have no idea why I waited to read this one...I so enjoyed it and it was perfect to read for spo0ky season. Violet is a (formally magicless) witch and Lincoln is a wolf/shape-shifter. I liked the fake dating, friend group/siblings and generally really loved how this epilogue set up the series. I loved Violet's work with the tiny humans and how Lincoln became this sweet volunteer showing people a different side of him. I didn't mind the sometimes corny dialogue because I enjoyed the characters.
Solid read for spooky season if you want a witchy/paranormal romance.
Normally I love the fake dating trope, but for some reason this novel didn’t pull me in like I was expecting. I’m bummed, but hopefully someone else will love this one!
I absolutely love a romance that has witches and other supernatural creatures, so of course I LOVED Not the Witch You Wed! I loved how Violet and Linc were thrown together in the very beginning, forcing them to rethink their past together and why they went their separate ways. Reading how Violet, who has been criticized and made fun of for being the "dud" of the witch Triad, finally comes into her magic and learns to trust and love Linc, while Linc learns to express himself and eventually admit to Violet why he didn't show at their meet up so many years ago was so sweet and even heartbreaking. I love these characters and I cannot wait to read the sequel!
I LOVED this book! I love all witchy books, honestly, but this one was just very good. I thought their relationship was very well done, and I found myself grinning often. Honestly, I loved it so much I now own a copy!
This book was a little difficult to get into, but once I did, I really enjoyed! Loved the magic realism world. And the tropes! gah - so good! fake dating, second chance. Of course, I also enjoy the dual POV!
This was such a fun read! I loved the humour and it suited my reading mood perfectly. The story addresses self confidence as it is something the female protagonist needs to deal with. A great second chance romance with a plus size de ail character nn
Sadly, I DNF'ed this one after getting to around 70 percent. I was getting confused by how much was going on -- the broader supernatural world in this book was kind of a lot for me. I understand this is the first in the series so it needed a certain amount of world-building, but it didn't really work for me, and the romance felt forced. I'm bummed because I wanted to like this!
This fake dating meets second chance was a dream of a paranormal romance! Entertaining from start to finish! It kept me smiling and I really enjoyed these characters.
I enjoyed this book but it wasn't what I expected. Or maybe it was and I am trying to fool myself otherwise.
First of all, I really fell into this book easily with the lovely writing style. It was smooth and inviting and I dove right in and couldn't stop reading. The plot of the story was interesting and spellbinding. (I couldn't resist. =P) The plot certainly felt like and flowed like a typical contemporary romantic comedy which is great because I think that was the point. I think that this is also why I didn't totally mesh with the world-building. The supernatural elements of the story felt very surface-level to me. They were not as developed as I tend to like in my fantasy and paranormal stories. Those parts of the story felt like a skeleton story that needed a little fattening up. Maybe not a bare skeleton but it definitely needed some more meat on those bones if you know what I mean.
The characters were easily likable and I found myself wanting more of them. Each character in the book felt unique and had a distinct personality. I really loved all the secondary characters in this book and I look forward to reading their love stories later in the series.
The love story could have been a little more convincing. I don't know why it didn't totally click for me but the chemistry felt a little forced. Both Violet and Lincoln have a past together and there was all this character depth but the romantic buildup didn't pack the punch I was hoping for. I was definitely rooting for them the entire time but in the back of my mind, I felt that their romance wasn't entirely memorable.
Overall, this was a quick and breezy read that I didn't totally love but enjoyed in the moment. The story may not have been entirely memorable for me but it was very fun. If you love romcoms and paranormal romance then you'll love this mash-up of the two. It never occurred to me to want to read a rom-com with paranormal elements but I am liking the genre thus far.
Quirky, funny and steamy. A whirlwind read! Loved the sexual tension between Linc and Vi! I cant wait to see what comes next in the series - hopefully the next triplet!
I enjoyed Not the Witch You Wed. And am loving the trend of contemporary witchy romances. They are cozy and fun and have just enough paranormal elements for readers new to fantasy and paranormal reads. I will be looking for more from this author!
This week I’m going to be coming at you with all of the spooky romance vibes. Let’s get excited about Halloween without actually reading anything truly scary. Who’s with me!?
First step is Not the Witch You Wed by April Asher. Here we have a classic romcom with lots of fantasy elements including those magical elements. I honestly thought the chemistry and romance part of this book was spot on. I really enjoyed the couple and how they grew and the relationship throughout the book.
Unfortunately some of the magical politics should we say just really got in the way of the storyline. There was a lot of backstory but yet still seems like there were huge holes in this fake dating, matchmaking scenario. It was just hard to buy exactly why these two needed to be dating. I really enjoy the elements of fake dating, it’s one of my absolute favorite tropes, but was it necessary in this? I guess you as the reader get to decide that.
Overall this is a fun read to kick off spooky season and if you are not one for horror of any kind I am here with the fun magical romance recs just for you this Halloween season!
This was such a fun book! I really liked the paranormal vibes and the world building, and the different paranormal creatures we got to meet. My favourite part of this book was the sister relationships, and I definitely want to continue the series to see the sisters get their romances. I wasn’t super invested in the romance but I thought the ending was super cute and very well done.
I loved this second chance spooky read! I found myself laughing out loud reading this story and it was the perfect book to get in the mood for spooky season without getting frightened. I'm a sucker for a sweet story about witches this time of the year, and April Asher delivered. I will recommend this to my friends who love the aura of halloween but not the gore! Sweet, cute, and fun read!
