The characters were well-developed, and I found myself invested in their lives. The plot was well thought out and had enough twists and turns to keep me on the edge of my seat. I appreciated the attention to detail, and the author did a great job of creating a vivid world that was easy to picture in my mind.
The themes explored in the book were thought-provoking and gave me a lot to consider. The story had a great message and was inspiring, leaving me feeling uplifted and motivated. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story with well-developed characters and a powerful message.
Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with this book and would definitely read it again. It was a great addition to my reading collection, and I can't wait to see what else this author has in store.

This book looked promising! The cover and description! However I just could not get into it. DNF for me.

Great fun, a lovely romp, with a dashing hero and a name to be cleared.
This story had me turning the pages to find out the twists and turns.

The plot description, the regency era and the murder angle all made this book gold in terms of being picked up.

Alas, that's where the interesting stops.
The execution could have much better but fell so flat for me. Also, more editing would have definitely helped.

I thank the publisher and netgalley for the Arc read.

I had high hopes for this book. I love romance and I love a good mystery. This was neither. Elise has obviously been through a horrendous ordeal and regardless of how upstanding Oliver comes across, he is constantly pushing Elise well out of her comfort zone. At least for the first half of the book. Then all of a sudden she changes her mind. She throws established societal norms out the window even though she obviously adhered rather strictly to them before. Unfortunately, about 1/3 of the way through, it was obvious who the killer was. This was a big miss for me.

DISCLAIMER: I received this book free from the NETGALLEY in exchange for an honest review.

While I really liked the concept of this story when I first read the description, the execution of said story was a bit flat. The protagonist wasn't as likeable as she needs to be in order for you to root for her, and her rake "detective" was underwhelming. I think the series could definitely improve and I would be interested in seeing where book two is going to go and if the main characters will be more three dimensional.

I wanted to love it, it seemed interesting but in the end it fell flat to me.
I couldn't connect with the writing style.
The cover is amazing.

Worth to read! Plot-twist.

I'm mentally unstable. It was only 1/2 chapter(s) apart and they have plenty emotions. But I enjoyed the story. Also, I had disliked Ollie at the first. (Well, every single men in the book, actually.)

+ I need the other siblings' story more, yes please.

“She dies a happy woman. A month with her lover was worth all her pain and suffering. She thought she would never get a second chance at love.”

I can totally appreciate the idea behind this story. I just did not enjoy the writing as it felt way too repetitive, lagged in places, and skipped too fast in others. I became frustrated reading this book and that is unfortunate as it took my attention away from the actual story.

Was very much looking forward to this one but decided not to read and review because the author is going to do a rewrite and release later. I will request the edited version once complete. Can’t wait to provide feedback on that version.

The premise for this book was really good and the storyline - although predictable - was interesting and easy to follow. some of the descriptions of Elise came across as a bit shallow and stereotypical to start with. The best aspect of the story was the budding romance between Elise and Oliver and it was nice to read both of their perspectives as this relationship progressed but on occasion the point of view changes didn't flow very seamlessly

I enjoyed this story!

In “The Murderess of Mayfair” by J.M. Shannon, the Marchioness of Bristol, Lady Elise Sinclair, needed to get married again. Two years ago, she found her husband dead in his chambers. The ton knew how horrendous her husband was to her and the ton could not blame her for murdering her husband. However, she was not a murderess, and needed former Bow Street runner Oliver Woodgate’s help to clear her name and survive a few attacks. Then she will be able to marry in name only and with no intimacy.

If you like emotional historical romances, then this book is for you. There were different types of abuse and assault in this book which added obstacles for the romantic aspect and added to the suspense aspect. This book is for those who like mystery, detective work, and a crazy plot twist. I really liked the heroine and her strength and it is not hard to like the hero. I look forward to the next book in the series!

Thank you to NetGalley and J.M. Shannon for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received this book as ARC from NetGalley. The basic theme is about a broke widow whose former husband was murdered and needs to clear her name to remarry. She is known as Murderess of Mayfair. Parts of the book were slow and the connection between the H and H. I believe the story goes in stages with the growth of the characters. I did like the fact the main characters were commoners and set in Regency London. The story is set as a second chance at love. Overall, the book was interesting and a new author for me. I will look forward to more books by this author.

Be aware: It does hint at previous physical and sexual abuse.

I must have read the synopsis wrong because I was not expecting this much romance. That being said, it became my favorite part of the book.
I found the characters and plot to be a bit ridiculous, but in a way I could find enjoyment in. Elise was a character that made me roll my eyes and wish I could talk some sense into.

Overall a book that was fun purely because the whole thing was ridiculous.

readable if you are not bothered by the modern language. The mystery is not much of one and barely plays a part it is just the reason for the characters getting together. Happy to read more though as it's an easy read.

Elise's dreadful husband was murdered 3 years ago. While she might have felt glad for it, she certainly doesn't appreciate that high society has pegged her The Murderess of Mayfair. She goes to Oliver Woodgate, ex-lawman and famous rake, to solve this problem for her. Their relationship develops, but will it might all be for naught if the murderer known as the Widow Taker manages to catch Elise.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. The incredible cover and interesting synopsis drew me in but unfortunately, the actual book left me hanging. There were just a lot of small annoyances that added up. The spelling and grammar errors didn't both me too much, but they certainly shouldn't have been there. I also thought that more should have been done with Elise's trauma, it often felt like we were only being told that she had it, not actually showed. It also often felt like important events were just being overlooked, forgotten about by the author in favour of trying to develop the romance instead. Plus, the big bad guy was incredibly predictable and anti-climactic.

I don't know, I just wish that there had been more to this. This book had so much potential, and maybe I had my expectations set too high which is on me. Oh well.

I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley

I really wanted to like this book, but I couldn’t connect with the characters or writing style. That doesn’t mean it’s not a good book, of course—everyone has different tastes so if the description appeals to you, give it a go.

This was pretty good. Entertaining and fun. I like the main character. She's got spunk and is likable and funny. I really enjoyed this. Can't wait for more by this author.

This is a Regency murder mystery which was fun to read, steamy in quite a few places and a plot twist at the end which I hadn't expected. I thought Elise as a character was well-formed and relatable; her self-preservation reaction to the abuse given by her late husband (whom society believe she has murdered) was dealt with sensitively by the author and I enjoyed seeing her grow in confidence and heal as the book went on. I didn't immediately like Oliver, the detective she hires, as his character was very domineering to begin with, however he softens. There were several scenes which didn't quite fit or which were inappropriate, however overall I enjoyed it.

**Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read an advanced e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own **
