The imperfect art of caring is a beautiful, tender, compassionate read that delves into the world of carers and caring, a subject close to my heart being a nurse and many moons ago for an exam I had to write an essay entitled “who cares for the carers” so I could totally relate to the subject matter and found it very realistic!
Violet has been called back home to look after her mum who has poor mental health, poor violet has no experience of caring, doesn’t get on with her mum and left the village many years ago under a cloud of doom! Now tasked with being a carer and all it entails from personal care, psychological care, form filling, selling property, and trying to find employment violet is floundering! Fortunately her first love Adam lives upstairs and is also caring for his elderly father, together they are a mighty force and initiate a group for carers, support, advice, friendship and in doing so open themselves up to others and rekindle their love for each other!
Thank you netgalley for this early read
I thoroughly enjoyed the Imperfect Art of Caring. When Violet returns home to care for her mother and sell the house its the last place she wants to be. Her mother hates her and the village blames her for a fire when she was 14. But then she meets her neighbours and things seem brighter.
A well paced gripping tale of new beginnings and lessons learned. Along with a strong underlying message about caring for our neighbours and being supportive.
The characters are all very different and well written, making them believable.
Another highly recommended read.
I loved this book so much, it made my heart feel warm full. This story is about Violet who is such a sweetheart and I really felt for her, her mum is not well so she has to return home, we find out why she is reluctant to return home and you can understand why Violet doesn't really want to . Her sister always came first and was the more loved child. Violet finds out what it is like to be a carer and she finds it tough but with the support of the local village she gets some help. Also she finds out more about one of her neighbours called Tammy who is having a tough time, I love seeing how Violet helps Tammy, it made my heart swell and I felt emotional as the two bonded. The story flowed so easily and I wanted to be there to hold Violet's hand through all the tough times. I really loved this book, I think Jessica is becoming one of my favourite authors. I will treasure this book for ever. It needs more than a five star.
