The absolute perfect sequel to kotw! Wrath is so scrumptious and emilia really blossomed in book 2 into someone confident and badass. And that ending!!!! Can’t wait for book 3!
"Tell me you hate me, that I am your worst enemy. Better yet, tell me you don't want to kiss me."
There are a couple of months left in 2021 but I think I just found my Top 1 read of this year - Kingdom of the Cursed is SINFULLY good!
The first book in the series, Kingdom of the Wicked (see my review here) made me hungry for food but Kingdom of the Cursed made me hungry… for something else. Kerri Maniscalco created a haunting world in this sequel that no one in their right mind would want to be trapped in, but I never claimed to be in my right mind. If ever there is a sign up to live in this fictional world of hell, I'd definitely be the first to volunteer.
It was full of spice, temptation, vice, tension, angst, secrets, mystery, riddles and verbal sparring - it has everything you need to keep you on your toes. Play detective if you want, but better prepare a notebook and a pen to jot down the hints because after a while, details would start to blur and you would definitely question if your guess was right. Kerri Maniscalco wrote a great mystery which was utterly satisfying to dissect, but right when you think you figured it out, another clue would pop up to prove you wrong.
"I wanted to kiss him. Possibly break a bottle and stab him first. But then definitely kiss him."
Emilia's character has grown and developed so much from the impulsive witch from Sicily, hell made her bolder and smarter although I couldn't help but want to shake her at times to wake her up and let her see what's in front of her. Like the first book, this is written from Emilia's point of view, which gave me some moments of mild frustration when I was eagerly trying to see outside of her perspective. I wanted to see more, I wanted to see everything that was happening, Kingdom of the Cursed made me greedy! Hell I am willing to sell my soul to the devil to read this in Wrath's perspective.
"When I go to my knees before you, it will be to conquer, not surrender."
Wrath - oh in the name of hells, where do I start! This enigmatic Prince of Hell pays attention, knows fashion, who also looks delicious without clothes but that's not all he is. A character who knows the value of consent! See? Asking for consent is sexy.
Reading Kingdom of the Cursed was an experience like no other. It would leave you on a high for weeks and possibly forever, it was the kind of book you would want to reread even before finishing it. And with that kind of ending? You'd definitely scream and beg for ONE MORE CHAPTER.
Thank you so much to Hachette Book Group Canada for providing me an advanced digital copy to review. You made me the happiest and I'm very much thankful!
I am going to start off by thank you HBC for this arc. My year was made.
So I devoured kingdom of the wicked and then proceeded immediately to beg for an arc of cursed. The arc goddess was shining down on me. I legitimately cried happy tears when I opened my email to an arc
Okay now for my review. There is not a damn word I did not enjoy. It was absolute perfection. The angst. The passion. The steam. The sins. The snark. The twists. Every single moment was *chefs kiss*. Some hypothesis I had were correct-ish some way off and I was still thrown for a loop.
I am now finding myself wondering if I can sell my soul to Wrath or find a spell to bind him to me for eternity. Ladies and gentlemen call me Princess of Wrath from here on out because I claim him as my husband from now until forever more and I will accept no less.
Now book 3 better be well on its way to the finishing line because there will be a void in my life until I can get my hands on it.
If you have been wondering if you should read this series, this is your sign from the goddesses to pick up. Pre-order KotC now. You won’t regret it. All I regret is that I’m done and there’s nothing more.
These two have moved into my mind heart and soul and are not moving out. Ever.
