Here is a light, quick read in the lead-up to Christmas, a touch of escapism amidst all the busy-ness of the season. This can easily be read in one sitting, 'though you may like to space it out a bit – just to make it last. Melody Carlson can be relied on for a brief diversion, where we can imagine ourselves away from the hectic preparations. I was glad to see there will be a sequel, as the characters had room for further development & there is obviously more of the story to be told...

Christmas in the Alps is a quick read and perfect for those tiny bits of time one has when preparing for Christmas! Melody Carlson whisks us away to the French Alps with Simone, where she hopes to find a hidden family treasure but instead discovers family, romance, and a unique new career. All of these changes happen within a snowy Christmasy wonderland that I recommend one visit - it's a delightful way to spend a few hours. My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel for this honest review.

I enjoyed my trip to Paris and the French Alps during the Christmas season via Melody Carlson’s Christmas book, A Christmas in the Alps. Carlson is known for her Christmas stories and this was a sweet one with history from WWII and unknown relatives being contacted.

Simone and Kyle brief encounter on the flight gave comfort to her. Simone was a character who wasn’t afraid to share with others even though she was hesitant to make the trip. Her time in Paris and then on to the French Alps gave her more than she thought would happen. There were twists and turns but the way Carlson weaved the story ending brought a smile. This was a quick read with vivid scenes of the trip Simone had and finding answers to her life, as she was in still grieving losses.

Thank you to Revell Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC copy of this book. I have shared my own opinion.

A Christmas in the Alps, by Melody Carlson, is a very interesting holiday tale. After the death of her grandmother, Simone Winthrop makes a trip overseas to hopefully track down a treasure left for her by her great-grandmother. Thankfully Simone is sitting next to Kyle, a kind man who helps her overcome her extreme fear of flying!

Kyle has ventured to Europe in hopes of improving his knowledge of building clocks. Surprisingly, Kyle and Simone end up in same French village, high in the Alps. As Simone reconnects with her family, Kyle finds an opportunity to work at her family’s watch and clock factory!

My thoughts: Melody Carlson is an avid writer in almost all genres but what I really look forward to each year is her annual Christmas book. This one takes a grieving granddaughter away from the only home she's ever known to a foreign land where she doesn't even know the language in search of a treasure. What is the treasure? I had my suspicions but I was partly wrong and partly right. The heroine was sweet and naive, opening up to complete strangers and telling everything she knows which kind of made her unwelcome in some circles and welcomed in others. I loved the way the story came together and I loved the ending and the cover is absolutely gorgeous. I was given a copy free and all opinions are my own.

I have always enjoyed Melody's Christmas books and look forward to the new one each year. This one didn't disappoint. Simone was named after her Great Grandmother who left France during WW2. After her grandmother dies she finds a letter that sends her to France to find out more about her Great grandmother and her namesake. Her biggest issue if flying and it is here she has a charming seat mate who helps her cope with the flight. Kyle is on his way to France via Norway and they meet in an unexpected way.

Simone is looking for a treasure but finds much more in the beautiful winter wonderland in the Alps. I enjoyed this book and the trip to France for Christmas. Learning more about an area is always a plus in a book. Good Christmas read to set you in the mood for this time of year.

If you enjoy Melody Carlson's Christmas books you won't be disappointed.

Genre: Christian Contemporary Romance Christmas novella

I look forward to Melody's Christmas Novella every year. It's become a Christmas tradition of sorts. Her Christmas novellas helped ease me back into Christmas traditions that I could bring myself to do the year I lost my mom or even the following year but as I picked up Melody's Christmas novella each year it got easier. A Christmas in the Alps is the first Christmas novella that had be crying from the first chapter. Because I could feel Simone loss, sadness and heartbreak at her loss. I could relate to Simone. But I also found myself agreeing with Andrea that Simone need to go to the French Alps. I laughed and cried with Simone but also celebrated with her too.

In a year when we still can't really travel, I enjoyed spending Christmas in the Alps from the comfort of my favorite chair and hot drink. And even though it felt weird reading a Christmas novellla in September. I know that I will pick it back up to read again in December. This is one of those Christmas novella's that you keep coming back to every year.

Christmas novella lovers, rejoice! Melody Carlson, queen of the Christmas novella, has gifted us this year’s edition and it solidifies her status as literary royalty. Pack your bags and log in to your translation app, because she is sweeping us off to find family, friendship, and hidden treasure in the snowy French Alpine village of Avre.

At a time in her life when Simone Sophia Winthrop has lost her last known living relative and her circle of friends is nearly as small as her dating prospects, she finds an unopened letter from her great-grandmama that shakes things up in her already-shaken comfort zone. With more than a little prompting from her best friend, Simone finds herself struggling to conquer her fear of flying to find the treasure her recently departed great-grandmamma left behind in her haste to leave war-torn France. Is it love or is she caught up in the romance of France at Christmas when she starts to have zingy feelings about her airplane seat mate? Is the exceptionally friendly hotelier flirting or just French? And why is she so warmly accepted by some of her newly found family members, but so icily received by her great-grandmamma’s own sister?

Set up your tea tray and snuggle into your favorite blanket to enjoy this season’s treasure from Melody Carlson.

Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me a copy to read and review. All opinions expressed here are my own and are completely genuine.

Can you believe it's less than 3 months until Christmas? It's hard to imagine there will be Christmas lights, decorations and the days will grow shorter soon.

I am a huge fan of Christmas novellas and Christmas in the Alps by Melody Carlson is a great one. Simone finds a letter from her great grandmother after her grandmother has passed about a treasure in Avre, France. Kyle wants a second career in watchmaking and meets Simone on the plane to Europe. I loved their natural chemistry, and delightful dialogue.

This has all the makings of a great Christmas story where friendship and family are celebrated and people work through challenges in time for Christmas. The author paints beautiful word pictures describing France at Christmas. I felt snow on my face and saw the sparkly Christmas lights as I read this delightful story.

This sweet story has a mystery, a hidden treasure, romance and a happily ever after. This beautiful hardcover book is one you would like to add to your collection or gift a friend for Christmas. I recommend it.

I was given a copy through the publisher and not required to write a positive review.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book by Melody Carlson that I have read. It is a Christmas-themed Christian novella. Simone and her friend find an unopened letter whilst clearing her grandmother's house. This leads her on a journey to France to find her family, and to look for the mysterious treasure the letter describes. The outcome is is not what Simone expects, although I found this pleasant story was quite predictable. The characters were likeable, and generally realistic, and the setting was nice although the length of the novel limited the descriptions of the alpine region of France and the French way of life.
This is a short, enjoyable, light read for Christmas time.

“A Christmas in the Alps” by Melody Carlson is about a mysterious family treasure, waiting to be unearthed, in a magical mountain holiday at Christmastime. After facing bitter heartache and agonizing loss, Simone Winthrop discovers an ancient letter from her French great-grandmother, suggesting that Simone is heir to a family treasure. Simone, being ever practical and down-to-earth, assumes that the claim is totally baseless. However, her best friend encourages her to find out for sure by ruling out all doubt. Simone, battling her deep-rooted fear of flying, boards a plane to Paris to uncover the truth. During the flight, Simone meets the charming Kyle Larsson, on his way to France to become an apprentice clockmaker. Though they go their separate ways, a totally unexpected rendezvous in the French Alps at Simone’s family’s clock factory leads to the discovery of what actually happened to the mysterious family treasure. This is a deftly crafted novel from a gifted storyteller, intriguing, sweet, and heartfelt. It is a Christmas story that will warm your heart. I highly recommend it to all readers who like to solve mysteries at Christmas.

A Christmas in the Alps is the story of Simone Winthrop. Simone's beloved grandmother who raised her has passed away, and while going through her things she finds a mysterious letter from her great-grandmother. The letter suggests that there is treasure hidden in Avre, France, her hometown. Simone travels to France, meeting a handsome clockmaker on the plane trip, and begins the holiday season in France. She gets to know her long lost relatives and searches for the mysterious treasure. Of course, she also has time for a little romance!

I wanted to read A Christmas in the Alps because I always love Melody Carlson's Christmas novels. I have reviewed them for the past few years. I also was intrigued by the French setting (I love novels set in France) and the search for antique treasure.

This was a delightful short novel from start to finish. Simone is a relatable protagonist who is searching for her place in the world after the loss of her grandmother, leaving her job, and breaking up with her boyfriend. She wants more out of life but isn't sure what that is yet.

I absolutely loved the Avre, France setting, with the charming inn, the home of Simone's great aunt, and the historic old clock factory. The treasure hunt was especially intriguing. I was so curious to see what the treasure actually was!

A Christmas in the Alps is a sweet, heartwarming book that would make a great Hallmark movie. I recommend it for anyone looking for a fun, relaxing weekend read.
