fun easy and full of energy
Not a life changing book or one I would read again but certainly one that I enjoyed and brought some lightness between heavier reads
Own voices are so important, I hate that a white author thought this was ok.
A huge thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for providing me a copy of the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Lovely feel good book to read. It was a joy to read. Lovely characters. Great plot. The book was charming. Very well written. I’d definitely recommend this book
This book has some hilarious situations that will have you laughing out loud. The interactions between the two main characters, Jude and Rory, are going to make you wish they could see what you do. This novel definitely shows you that not everyone or everything is what it seems. It also is a good book to teach you to love your enemies. I would recommend this one for romcom lovers.
This book with "You Got Mail" quotes and inspiration was fun, with a food truck owner that can't cook and a lawyer that wants to cook. It had frustrating moments and funny ones, and was a great road trip book!
This book has me LIVID. This is why own voices books are so important. When a white author writes a book about a rich little white boy, who is so self-centered he doesn’t even recognize his own privilege, and makes him out to be not only sympathetic but a victim??? He literally steals the recipe of an authentic Mexican food truck, then opens his own Mexican food truck in competition with them and does not see a single problem with it and doesn’t understand why she’s upset. Then the author makes it out like he is the victim because he had problems too and maybe they should have welcomed him to steal their business and their culture with open arms because he had a Mexican nanny who also cooked tacos. NOPE. This author needs a reality check and a whole team of sensitivity readers.
I highly enjoied this book. I loved the combination of food truck park meets a bake off show. I was captured by this book from the start and could not put it down. I loved the characters and their connection but also the importance of working hard. I highly suggest this book to any food truck, bake off loving reader.
This is a great food romance and I think there's enough of different elements in here to satisfy a wide variety of readers!
I enjoyed the dual POV and the themes behind this book a lot. I enjoyed the male lead and how he had to go against the norm to reach his dreams.
I enjoyed the miscommunication troupe and also enjoyed the romance. The female lead was not my favorite, but she grew on me. The writing was solid. The only thing I didn’t love was the format of the plot, it felt a bit fast paced for me.
Rory is the owner of a popular local food truck, but food is definitely NOT her passion. Jude is slated to be the next Worthington lawyer, but he's dreading this future that his father has all planned out. Luckily for both Rory and Jude, they've made a connection with someone in an online dating app who pushes them to follow their hearts and go for their dreams. This ends up putting Jude into becoming a business competitor with Rory, who happens to also be his online connection (unbeknownst to either, at first). A local food truck festival officially puts their trucks head to head, competing for their businesses' survival--Rory trying to keep Salsa Street a financial success, and Jude trying to gain the freedom to officially leave his father's law firm. As the competition, and their rivalry, heats up, can they keep fighting the attraction they feel towards each other?
While I was drawn in by the premise of this novel--food trucks and an enemies-to-lovers plot--this ended up falling short for me. The beginning of Rory and Jude's relationship was promising, but after they truly became rivals, the heat and connection didn't seem to be there at all. So, while I knew there would be a reconciliation of differences in the end, it felt undeserved and without much passion. What I DID enjoy were the family relationships and how Jude and Rory were able to find their way in life doing what they actually enjoyed and cared about. The characters of Jude and Rory were well done and their individual situations were interesting. It was just the romance and personal connection between the two that I found lacking.
This was a fun closed-door romance that still held a lot of emotions and feels. This was my first book by this author and it won't be my last!
I thought this read was cute and super quick, but it wasn’t something I was excited about or attached to. It’s a light, rom-com type of book, but I didn’t feel as if there was enough romance or bubbly moments and that says a lot coming from me because I typically don’t enjoy romance novels.
I do love the representation and a young Mexican American woman dating a white male, but I’m biased because it made me think of myself and my husband!!
I didn’t understand why Rory didn’t finish her sentence and just tell Jude that she wasn’t the cook. They still would’ve wound up around each other and talking via chat site. Also - the chat sites weird rules/steps for getting to know one another was frustrating and bizarre.
An enjoyable rom com, women's fiction novel! I enjoyed Betsy St Amant's writing style and cannot wait to read more of her books!
Yes, yes, YES! Betsy St. Amant has crafted a delicious and fun romance with Tacos for Two! Fresh concept with familiar romantic tropes make for a very enjoyable read.
This was a really cute and cosy romance, that focuses heavily on food, so be prepared to feel extremely hungry for mexican dishes in particular!
I love a book featuring food, and this cosy romance featuring a plethora of Mexican dishes was full of food and flavour
I just wish the relationship between Roy and Jude had the same spice as the food did. Even the comparison to You've Got Mail didn't bring some life into it for me.
Tacos for Two is a fun and delicious rom-com.
Readers, be warned this book will make you want to order some of your favourite dishes from your local Mexican restaurant. I love any book that has delicious food talk in it, and this book really does have some yummy food descriptions! I really enjoyed that instead of having the book take place in a restaurant, Betsy decided to do something a little different and used food trucks as the primary setting in this book. It was fascinating to explore and hang out at different food truck sites and see how that world looks.
The characters in this book are lovely. Rory is fun and smart and a bit of a hot mess in the kitchen. I can totally relate to all the kitchen disasters that tend to happen when Rory is cooking. When I tried to cook a cake in a cup for 8 minutes, I destroyed my microwave. The cooking scenes were my favourite, probably because they had me laughing all the time. The secondary characters are delightful and add that extra bit of charm to the story.
The one thing that fell a bit short with me was the romance between Rory and Jude. I enjoyed the texting banter between these two at the beginning of the book. It was fun and witty and excited me to see what would happen when these two characters actually meet. Unfortunately, that spark that existed in their texting exchanges didn’t carry into their in-person interactions. There just wasn't chemistry between them, and I was left wanting more from their growing relationship. Their relationship just wasn't believable.
Overall, Tacos for Two is a fun and light rom-com and great for any reader who loves to read books with fabulous food talk.
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Tacos for Two was a really cute romcom to jump into. From the very beginning, I liked getting to know Rory and Jude. Especially when food was involved. Ever since they started talking to a certain someone online, I quickly figured out how things were going to go down once the drama started. I just patiently waited for the puzzles pieces to fall into place so that these two could figure it out for themselves.
These two definitely have their ups and downs. I enjoyed the bantering and all the bonding that happened between them. I was also pretty intrigued by the food festival competition, but it was pretty easy to spot who would lose. Even with things being a bit predictable, I still devoured each and every page that came my way.
In the end, the epilogue was freaking adorable. It definitely made me happy and I'm glad that I got the chance to jump into this beautiful book. Now I just really need a taco or two.
Food romance is the best kind of romance in my opinion. It was such a fun read and I loved the online relationship between Rory and Jude but their in person relationship was really lacking flavour and spice. I found myself getting annoyed quite frequently.
This was such a cute book!
Who doesn't love a good enemies to lovers romance?! This one was done perfectly, and never felt forced. The pace and fun of Rory and Jude's online relationship was impeccable. I loved getting lost in their message exchanges and watching their love bloom. They are both great characters, but SPEAKING OF CHARACTERS, the support cast was just so so darn likable too! Because of the plethora of great characters, I was invested from the beginning, Even through all of the hiccups, miscommunications, and drama... I never felt too exasperated to keep rooting for the happy ending (which is often what turns me off of cutesy romance books). A unique set of circumstances combined with age old troupes that we all love; Consider it a modern You've Got Mail. The only complaint I have it that I was constantly hungry. I don't need any extra excuses to want to eat tacos!
