The author continues to write books that deeply touch the heart. This one is no exception. She combines such realistic fictional characters in life situations that come across as alive and their challenges as easy to relate to. She also includes details that offer new knowledge to the reader, with this novel focusing on observing birds and information about many species. One character’s bird journal entries are interspersed throughout the text of this redemptive tale. And the colorful, intriguing people in the novel form their own flock of unique specimens amid their personal dramas. My one disappointment was the romance with a woman recently divorced, especially in an Amish story, because I believe as they do that marriage is a covenant before God until one partner dies, so a divorced person is not free to remarry. I would think the Amish characters would mention that. I think this would make a great book club choice. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

While reading A SEASON ON THE WIND I became emotionally invested in all of the characters. They are all flawed, real and lovable! Once I started reading, I was instantly hooked. I devoured every page and couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. This not so typical Amish story is filled with a health crisis, mental illness, strong faith, but also love, family, and second chances.

I quickly flew through A SEASON ON THE WIND and when I finished I found myself wanting more. I loved all of the characters and found myself wanting to travel to Stoney Ridge. The tender moments in the story really pull at the readers heart strings. Penny is beyond excited that Ben Zook is back. He left his Amish Community many years ago and when he did, he took Penny’s heart with him. Now he has returned to work with her brother, Micah to find a very rare bird that has been seen in Stoney Ridge. The only problem is that Ben has no recollection of Penny or the time they spent together! How did she get it so wrong?

In A SEASON ON THE WIND I loved Ben and Penny, the primary characters, but also fell in love with all of the secondary characters as well. Every one of them has an important part to play in this heart warming story and even though I wanted to reach in and smack one or two of them every now and then, they all weaseled their way into my heart. My emotions were all over the place and I was even reaching for the tissues quite a few times. Penny and Ben are both hiding from something in the past and are afraid of being exposed at any moment. Will they learn to forgive themselves and begin to live again?

Are you a birder? I think you are really going to like this book. Are you a casual enjoyer of the birds around your house? I think you're going to like this book too! I must admit a couple of things. First I am in the latter category. I enjoy birds but have very little knowledge about them. Second, Suzanne Woods Fisher could write just about anything and I'm confident that I would enjoy it. So with that being said let me tell you what I thought about this particular book.

A Season on the Wind takes us back to the community of Stoney Ridge. We get to catch up with a few of our old favorites like Hank and Edith Lapp. (By the way doesn't Hank remind you of your crazy uncle . . .over the top and somewhat annoying. But he belongs to you and you love him anyway!) We also get to meet some new faces. Siblings Penny and Micah Weaver are recent arrivals in Stoney Ridge. They have taken over the farm of their late grandmother and are busy settling in and getting Micah's local field guide business up and running. We also meet Ben Zook and his cousin Natalie.

Ben is a world renowned birder and he has come back to Stoney Ridge to photograph the elusive White-winged Tern that has recently been spotted in Stoney Ridge. Unfortunately there is a whole lot of baggage associated with Stoney Ridge for Ben.

Penny, Micah, Ben and Natalie all have some serious wounds in their past. Most of the events that caused the wounds seem impossible to reconcile . . .but God! Ms. Fisher does a beautiful job of telling their stories and letting us come along to see how God uses His creation (birds) to reach His creation (people).

I fell in love with these new characters and look forward to them popping up again in future books. I just can't recommend this book enough. Whether you are a bird person or not, get this book for the pure enjoyment of the story.

Psalm 46:10

New International Version
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;(A)
I will be exalted(B) among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

Do we ever spend the time to really listen? We can learn so much by being still and listening to what is around us. The other day I was walking and I purposely did not put in my earphones. I did not block out the sounds of the area around me. I listened. I could hear the wind blow. I could hear the birds.

This book talks about listening and observing the beauty around us. We so often live our lives in a hurry. We don't enjoy the gifts that GOD gives to us.

Ben Zook was a famous author who wrote about birdwatching. He was so involved in capturing their images. But what did he miss out of when viewing the birds through a lens?

I enjoyed the book as you got to really know the characters that Suzanne Woods Fisher brings to life. Each character had a gift/talent to share with others if they just stopped and took the time to listen.

I am never disappointed when I read one of Ms. Fisher's books. There is always something that I take with me after I finish the book. I need to listen more.

I received this book to review from Celebrate Lit and Revell Reads.

This story is much more than just an Amish story filled with family, relationships and faith. I was pleasantly surprised to read that this beautiful story highlights birds. There is nothing more serene that watching a bird soar in the air, or perch on a branch in all their regal glory. God’s creation is seen in the different brilliance of colors and types of birds. I appreciate the very in-depth information about different birds. There were quite a few that I have not heard of but now I want to buy a book about birds and do sone bird watching myself.

One of the things I liked about the book was how the author gives us a realistic look at the Amish. They are Plain people who definitely don’t like to draw attention to theirselves. I didn’t realize that drawing or painting was considered prideful. One character in the book begins to like the simple lifestyle the Amish have and says that “they seem to have such a gentle faith.” If only we all had that gentle spirit within us, we would be happy and content.

Penny was this sweet woman who had the biggest heart for others. She was excited to see an old friend again but something was off with Ben. Why is he acting like he doesn’t know her? That was going to be intriguing to find out and I knew this book must be read in one sitting. Nothing was going to get in my way of joining Penny, Micah, Ben and his cousin Natalie on their adventure. Ben may be there to see this mysterious elusive bird he has heard about, but I know there was something he was holding back. I wonder if he knows that Penny is caring for his father by bringing him meals and cleaning for him?

It was a treat to read the notes between chapters about the different birds that had been spotted. It was very detailed and I enjoyed getting more familiar with each species. Micah is very thorough with his entries in the journal and I loved how smart he was about birds so much that people sought him out to give then guided tours to find specific birds. He seems to come out of his shell when talking about birds and gives him confidence in himself.

When the story comes to the part about Ben’s past, I began to cry. Such a tragedy that Ben witnessed during a time when he and his brother were so close. I will warn readers that there is mention of suicide and depression in this section of the story that may trigger some. It is not very detailed but has a powerful lesson about forgiveness. Now I understand the distance between Ben and his father. Will Ben be able to talk to his father before it is to late? Penny gives Ben sound advice when she tells him, “Forgiving your father will set you free as well.”

At the end of the book the author has a section where there are questions that can be used in a book club or for personal use. She points out about the different themes in the book. I now understand the significance of what the birds in the story represent and . The author allows us to see one character choose to forgive while another recognized the choices they have made in their life kept being repeated. Through it all I walked away with learning to find happiness, forgive and reconcile with those you have turned your back on. This book is going on my list of all time favorites for 2021.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

A Season on the Wind by Suzanne Woods Fisher is a lovely Amish novel. We get to return to Stoney Ridge, Pennsylvania where it is almost time for the Christmas Bird Count. Micah Weaver, who is an avid birder, reports a rare White-winged Tern in the area. Author and birder, Ben Zook wants to get a picture of the bird for his latest book. His cousin, Natalie Crowell comes along with him because she needs a change after the end of her marriage and the betrayal she experienced. They are staying in the guesthouse on Lost Creek Farm managed by Penny. Penny cannot believe that Ben has returned after twenty years. She gave her heart to him when she was twelve and Penny has been waiting for his return. Unfortunately, Ben has no memory of Penny or the time they spent together one long ago summer. I enjoyed reading A Season on the Wind. It is a sweet story that draws you in and holds you until the end. I stayed up late trying to finish it. I like the characters in this story. They are well-crafted so they are realistic and relatable. We get to follow Penny, Ben, Micah, and Natalie. I like getting to see each of their perspectives. The story is filled with fascinating information about birds. I learned quite a bit about birds and the count that occurs each year at Christmas. This story makes you think about the beauty God created for us. He provided us with these beautiful birds. I like how the author handled a speech disability and Alzheimer’s. The author handled them with dignity. There is also humor in the story courtesy of Hank Lapp. He is quite a character. You can always count on him to lighten up a situation. My favorite phrase from the book is, “Every day was a new day, . . .so yesterday really shouldn’t matter. Even better, there was no point in worrying about the future.” A Season on the Wind has romance, old wounds, new relationships, deep faith, and a stray bird. A Season on the Wind was a special and unique Amish tale.

God can use one lost bird to change lives.

Ben Zook left the Amish to follow his dreams of specializing in birds for a living. They had a history together, but something happened. Ben doesn't remember. Penny has been running this awesome birdwatching guest house, and now a rare bird indeed has blow in. In search of a white-winged tern, Ben is now back and Penny is once again, wondering what God is up to with this. So this is the very tip of the what this book is about, because it's so much deeper than just that. It's full of birds, and scenery, and forgiveness and has some twist. It's an amazing read. I couldn't get enough of it and I'm already a fan of this author's books, but this one is extra good!

My digital copy came from Celebrate Lit via Net Galley, thank you! A positive review is never required and this review contains my thoughts about this book.

Wow! A fiction book with birding as its subject matter!! I am a fan!! Suzanne Woods Fisher pens a most engaging tale of Amish and Englischers hunting both birds and fulfillment in A Season on the Wind. I loved this book on so many levels.

First, it starts with descriptions of birds. It was so hard to not look up the birds’ pictures in my phone app as I went. Each chapter includes a page out of Micah's bird diary about a different bird: its plumage, nesting and mating habits, and habitat.

Second, personalities and relationships are complex. Nothing is as simple as it seems it should be. Because the novel is written in a non-linear way, we slowly discover the motivations behind Ben’s attitude and life. We also slowly see what makes his cousin Natalie tick. I love the way Fisher surprised me more than once with twists well-placed that make perfect sense, yet I hadn’t seen them coming.

Third, a return to some of the characters of Stoney Ridge. The more Amish stories I read, the more I love and respect David Stoltzfus, Bishop of Stoney Ridge. “He was a true Spirit-led leader. Just the right combination of depending on the word of God in Scripture, and the word of God in hearts.” Such wisdom and care for his flock. Then there’s Hank and Edith. This unlikely couple adds so much color and sometimes confusion to their community.

Fourth, I love that Fisher is careful to point out that while the Amish life seems peaceful, it has its share of troubles and heartaches. It’s not their lifestyle that is the panacea for troubles. As Boyd says, it's about what’s on the inside, not the outer trappings. “Wherever God puts us, he wants us in relationship with him. That’s for everyone, wherever they are. Amish or Englisch or any other label.”

A beautifully complex novel, presenting pain, fear, romance, faith, and ultimately, forgiveness. I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit via Net Galley. I was not required to leave a positive review, and all opinions are my own.

Such an interesting novel! I didn’t know much about birds before I read this but I’ve been enlightened. Birder Micah Weaver keeps a bird watching log throughout and I found myself googling each species as I read.
Ben Zook with his cousin travel to Stoney Ridge to seek out Micah who’s seen a rare bird in his area, a white-winged tern, that Ben is searching out for his book. Micah’s sister Penny recognizes Ben but he doesn’t seem to know her. As relationships develop and friendships form in this Amish community, I enjoyed getting to know them too. A great “cast” of characters! I’m thinking about looking for my binoculars and walking outside to see what songbirds I can recognize.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.

This book is an Amish book read. Ben has left his Amish town of Stoney Ridge. His love in his life, birds and books, soon take him back to the home town. He is on the search for the White-winged Tern and tries everything he can to get photos of the bird. He ends up meeting and working with Micah to help him find the bird. However, Micah's sister, Penny meets Ben and has more than birds in mind. Penny remembers the past with Ben, but Ben doesn't remember her. Can the past be forgiven and these two become friends or more? Will Ben be able to find the bird? Will Micah and Ben be able to work together with many circumstances that surround their friendship?

I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys Amish reads and added bonus if you enjoy birds, then read this book. Suzanne does it again, her Amish books never let the reader down and this one is right on track to keep people reading.

My thoughts: Suzanne woods Fisher is one of my favorite Amish authors. I love how she works in several different story lines and one story and yet they all tie together. I learned a lot about birds in the story, things I didn't know, fascinating information. I wonder how many hours of research to solve their put into birds to be able to write this book. There were some surprises but most of the story I guess where it would go. It was nice to see some old familiar characters and yet meet new ones. If you love Amish fiction you will love a season in the wind. This is a must read book for bird lovers, romance readers, and others who are just looking for a good read. It is certain December so it would be a good breed this Christmas season too. I was given a copy free and all opinions are my own.

Initial impression : Well – I sure learned a lot about birds in this book :) The only problem with this writer is that I want to keep on reading, but at the same time I don’t want to come to the end. Her books are just so....readable! I feel like I am catching up with old friends, & I don’t want to leave them. It is with great pleasure & anticipation that I begin a new story, knowing it is guaranteed to be another good one.
Concluding impression : while all of Suzanne Woods Fisher’s books have depth to them, this is deeper than most. One of the story lines in particular is very moving, and there is also much food for thought. Even though I knew what I expected to happen, I didn’t know how it could be brought about in a convincing, credible way – especially as there were less & less pages to manage it in.
Overall impression : Just lovely! (Definitely a 4 1/2 star book.)

As always, Suzanne Woods Fisher has created a beautiful story of love, redemption, and joy. A Season on the Wind tells the tale of Penny Weaver and Ben Zook. Penny lives with her brother Micah on a farm left to them by their grandmother. Micah is a bird guide, giving tours and helping people search for rare birds. When an extremely rare bird is spotted near the farm, Ben comes to town. He left Stoney ridge over twenty years before and travels the world documenting the birds that he finds. What he finds at Windmill Farm, though, is so much more than birds. Told us Fisher’s heartwarming voice, A Season on the Wind will bring smiles, tears, and laughter to your day!

When it comes to Amish fiction, Suzanne Woods Fisher just might be my favorite... and stories like A Season on the Wind are a prime example as to why. This is a story that is heavily about birds... and I have to say aside from admiring their beauty here and there, I can't say that I'm someone that has all that much interest in the topic of birds. An Amish fiction about birds? Honestly, on paper it doesn't sound like it should be all that interesting! And yet, it somehow works. She creates characters and tells these stories so wonderfully that you cannot help but be drawn into the story anyway... just as a good storyteller should do! It was a bit of a slower paced story than I typically prefer, but it worked for the story I thought. As always, the messages of faith weaved beautifully throughout the story were fantastic as well. Overall, this was an enjoyable and unique read that fans of Amish fiction are sure to want to experience for themselves.

Truly, if you love watching birds at your feeder or at any other time, this book is one you don't want to miss. I still can't get it out of my mind, days after finishing it. I am not a fan of Amish stories but I am of fan of Suzanne Woods Fisher. I just love the way she writes. Her books flow and are always so well researched and interesting. This book is one of an Amish woman and her brother and a man and his sister who are visiting their Amish farm. The visit is for the sole purpose of getting to see a rare bird. I won't go into details but the story is unique and there are many details about birds in journal form that are included and often humorous observations to go along with them. I recommend this book to any one who loves nature and wants a unique interesting read.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book. The opinions are entirely my own,.

Penny Weaver is an aeccellent cook, she owns a Inn.
Her brother Micah is an expert bird watcher and guide.
"Birds didn't always act or play according to the rules".
A day Ben Zook, well known all over the world and writer about birds, with his cousin Natalie,
recently divorced and depressed, come to Stoney Creek and asks Micah for help to see a rare bird.
They eventually will discover God and what really matter in life: listening, forgiven, help, love, be kind to each other.
This author knows to take by hand the readers and accompany them trough the story, as they are theyself characters of the book.
I'm sure I'll miss the characters.

I ❤️ that I get to visit the Amish community of Stoney Ridge again, in Susan Woods Fisher's novel, "A Season On The Wind". It's a Fantastic, Engrossing, Christian Romance, wrapped in some Mysteries (not danger), that perplex the characters.

Penny seeks to understand, why Ben doesn't remember her? Can Ben return to Stony Ridge without confronting his estranged Father? Trudy has seen the "rare bird", why can't Bird-Watching Guide, Micah locate it? Can Natalie use her Interior Designer talents in Stony Ridge, to get her life back on track? Will Birding Expert, Ben, be able to get a picture of the "rare bird", to complete his latest manuscript? How does God help answer those questions?

I Highly Recommend You 📖 this Inspirational, Poignant, & Unforgettable 📕, to find the answers. And to see how God guides Penny & Ben to their Lifetime 💞! ❤️📖 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Suzannne Fisher's books are always warm and engaging. Her books always teach a lesson. This was one of forgiveness and healing. Each character goes through the process for different reasons. Even though the this book had the theme of birds throughout, the author does a wonderful job in her descriptions so that the reader stays involved. I found the book to be very informative. I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.

This is an Amish Romance. This book has a lot about birds, but it was done so you can follow without knowing a lot about birds. I really loved the characters in this book, and the storyline was really good. There was a twist in this book that I really did not see coming. I have to say this is a very slow moving story, but there was so much in it that kept me wanting to keep reading. I normally not a big fan of slow moving books, but I really enjoyed this book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Revell) or author (Suzanne Woods Fisher) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Ben Zook left Stoney Ridge years ago and never looked back - until news came of the sighting of a rare bird, never before seen in Pennsylvania. It's just what he needs to finish his latest rare birds book, so he goes back with the intention of staying as short a time as possible and not interacting any more than he has to. Penny introduced Ben to birding one summer long ago, and has held out a hope ever since that one day God would bring him back to her. But now that he's back (and staying at her guesthouse), he doesn't seem to even recognise her. When illness derails Ben's plans for a speedy departure and forces him to interact more with Penny, he begins to come to terms with his past - but will he ever be more than a visitor? Will Penny's long-cherished hopes ever be fulfilled?

This was interesting from a birding point of view, though not enough to get me involved personally - I know people who are keen on birds, but have never been more than casually interested myself. However, it was still more enjoyable from a story point of view. Watching Ben gradually come to terms with his past was great, and I loved the twist in Ben and Penny's story. I'm hoping that Natalie will get her own story at some point - she still feels pretty lost - and likewise Micah. On the topic of Micah, I loved the thoughtful notes in his log entries - they really added a lot to the story and to his personality. All in all, this was a heartwarming and inspiring story, and I loved it. Hoping for another visit to Stoney Ridge soon!

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
