A Season on the Wind is a story that happens because a little bird is blown off course and is spotted in a place not normally seen. Penny and Micah Weaver live on the farm in Pennsylvania that was inherited from their grandmother. The two learned their love for birds from her and now Micah is becoming well known as an expert in the field of bird guiding. When Ben Zook hears about the rare bird seen in the area, he books the Weavers' guesthouse and hires Micah to guide him. He convinces his newly divorced cousin Natalie to go with him for a change of scenery. Ben, now English, used to live in the area and was Amish but he doesn't want to advertise that. Penny has some back history that involves Ben but he doesn't seem to remember. The Amish setting is a great place for the cousins to refocus on priorities. Filled with lots of information about birds, this story is interesting and unique. As the story moves along gradually, we get to know the characters. They are likable and realistic; but especially Penny and Ben as they spend time together are special. This is a lovely story of faith and romance where old wounds are healed and new relationships are made. There is a twist in this story that was not expected but added clarity to some questions.

I always love Suzanne books I can always get in to them very fast and never want to put them down.
I always love the characters.
I can not wait for the next story.
A Season on the Wind by Suzanne Woods Fisher is destined to become a favorite among her fans. Picking up this book is like coming back for a nice stay in Stoney Ridge. Micah and Penny Weaver are new to the area. Penny had other ties to the area, having spent one particularly fine summer with her late grandmother. During that summer, she met and spent time with Ben, talking about birds while creating beautiful art. Micah may have the corner on finding the birds birders seek but Penny is the center of it all. Knowledgeable too in the study of birds, she seems to be everywhere supporting her younger brother.
Ben had no plans to ever return to this area but a pending book deal won out any reluctance he may have had before this trip. Nothing went according plan. The plan, in the end, didn't seem, in the end, to be as important as the real journey he took, within the walls, with the Weavers.
One important thing in this book as well as Suzanne's other books is that she has characterization down to an art. Challenging characters are her forte. Lives are changed and the endings are neatly wrapped up. I recommend this book to fans of Amish fiction, or those who want a good story without all the extra fluff so common today. Good books are a treasure. I enjoyed this one immensely!
Penny and her brother Micah have a small farm where he wants to be a guide for birders. When Ben, an author of rare birds, comes in search of a bird thrown off course, it gets interesting. Ben grew up Amish, but left as a teenager. Can the growing attraction to Penny bring him home? Liked this one, plus the notes about different birds. Highly recommend this book and author. Hard to put down.
I didn't want to stop reading this book but I didn't want it to end. It was a special book and I loved that it was about birding! Whenever I see birds now, I think to myself "is that the special bird we're looking for", but then I remember the people looking for birds were in a book and not real people I know!
There were four stories being told - Penny's, Ben's, Natalie's, and Micah's and they totally worked together! Of course, there was Penny and Ben's story, too. There was a strong theme of forgiveness throughout this book.
I thought it was interesting why Ben didn't remember Penny and certainly not a reason I would have guessed. I loved the bishop. I enjoyed watching Natalie grow throughout the story. I was happy with how Micah's story resolved.
Not only will fans of Amish romance like this book, but I think it has appeal to fans of contemporary romance as well.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wonderful and Inspiring
I really don't even know where to start. There is so much I want to say about this book, but I fear I will accidentally give away too much information. And that would be a shame, because you really just have to read it for yourself.
This book was absolutely wonderful and inspiring, and I was drawn in from the very start. I love bird watching, so the theme of birds definitely piqued my interest. However, I was even more drawn in by the characters, especially the main characters, Ben Zook and Penny Weaver.
Ben and a Penny's story grabbed my interest from the very first pages. I was intrigues by Ben's deep desire to find a rare White-winged Tern and how that desire brought him back to his childhood home of Stoney Ridge. Ben had met Penny during his childhood, and she had actually introduced him to birding. The problem? Ben has no memory of Penny or that event.
The story does not move along at a fast pace, but it totally kept my interest as the pacing was just perfect for getting to know the primary and secondary characters, the development of their relationships, and how they all fit into the story. The book kept me turning pages as I was captured by the element of intrigue, which was accompanied by elements of faith, trust, forgiveness, friendships, relationship with God, and love. The author flawlessly wove these themes throughout the story, and nothing felt overdone or overwhelming. Everything fit just right.
There is so much more I could say about this book, but suffice it to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it as one that you definitely won't want to miss.
***I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. All comments and opinions are strictly my own.

"A Season on the Wind" by Suzanne Woods Fisher
A Truly Special Read…
This story has something for YOU.. birding facts, disillusionment, disappointment, faith, forgiveness, sweet clean romance, heart-break, and healing. Oh, and a dozen conversion starting questions for your book group at the end of the story. Hint: you might want to read the questions before reading the story, or maybe not. OH, and you might want to have a few tissues handy, especially as you get closer to the final chapters in this book. I say this because saline waters poured out of my eyes like water over Niagara Falls, just sayin'. By now you must have figured out that I absolutely loved this story, and plan to make time to read it again very soon. Happy Reading ! !
NOTE: I received an ARC of this story from the publisher via NetGalley.
This review expresses my honest opinions.
This is a very well written book and a great story.. I read a lot of Amish fiction and many times the authors repeat certain phrases over and over such as “ As he walked across the street” “As the sunset” etc.Or certain actions, “She bit her lip.” “He licked his lips.” And sometimes the stories ramble. This book is nothing like that. Great writer and book! Thanks for letting me read this!
A Season on the Wind is a very well written Amish romance. Great plot and character development. I love birds so I really enjoyed the bird story line. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.
This was a thought provoking book. This book had several themes. A theme of finding an elusive bird, and a theme about going to your past and working out the problems that one had never hoped to deal with again in life.
Ben has a hard time dealing with his Amish past. Memories slowly come to surface in his life. Penny has waited a long time for Ben to be back in her life. This book has surprising twists and turns and deeper meaning than what lies simply on the surface.
This was a very well written book. I became so engaged and found myself hurrying through my daily duties to get back to my book! It seemed a simple theme, but there is much more to think about then one might expect. I really encourage readers of this book to read the questions at the end of the book. They will help you to understand feelings and events that occur. I highly recommend this book!
I received a complimentary ebook copy from NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
I loved this book, what a great book of acceptance of the differences in people, and being able to move on in a different community.
Now I'll admit that I am a birder, and yes, I've seen most of the birds mentioned, except for that Tern! Of course, most I've seen in their abundant locations.
Loving and accepting a person for whom they are, yes, they had to move, but not far, and we get to see them blossom. Others are still searching when they arrive, and yet, not really realizing what they are looking for, but God knows. We see the part of the Amish faith and Christian faith, that is hard but necessary, forgiveness, and we see how this plays out.
A read you don't want to miss!
I received this book though Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.
I found A Season in the Wind to be very informative and well written from the beginning because the author, Suzanne Woods Fisher, not only gives you a birder’s glossary so you understand the words when they are used throughout the book, she also give you a list of the people with a description of them. The characters are realistic and makes you want to know them personally plus the added bonus is you feel like you are on a bird watching adventure yourself. The story line talks about forgiveness, friendships, rekindled love and humor. Suzanne also does a good job in having unexpected twists and a plot that keeps you guessing as to what will happen next and makes it hard to put the book down because you are anxious to see what happens next. I highly recommend this book because I feel like we can all relate to the story in one aspect or another.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Net Galley and the publisher for my honest review and opinion.
A Season on the Wind is now my new Amish Fiction favorite I have read by Suzanne Woods Fisher to date. I really enjoyed visiting and spending time in Stoney Ridge with Penny and Ben. I liked that just when I knew what was going to happen next, there would be a little twist I would see coming. I enjoyed learning about the birds, also. I thought it was an entertaining, fun and a delightful story to read. I had a hard time putting it down.
I am giving A Season on the Wind a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean Amish Romantic Fiction. This one should not be missed.
I received a paperback copy of A Season on the Wind from the publisher, but was not required to write a review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
I loved this book. I especially enjoyed the facts on birds. They were interesting. Being a bird watcher I learned things I did not know. I loved the characters to It was a book hard for me to put down.
This is a sweet love story between Ben Zook and Penny Weaver that I became quickly and fully immersed in and I read in one day. I loved the fact that Penny was a little older at 35 and Ben was 37. It's refreshing to read about "older" people having new romances. I also liked the side story of Ben's cousin Natalie and her relationship with Boyd. It's always fun when you get two romances in one. I found Micah's bird journaling notes to be quite humorous at times. I have several bird feeders but this book has encouraged me to dig out my field guide on birds and see what I have in my own backyard. The theme of forgiveness runs deep in this lovely book.
Suzanne Woods Fisher books are ones that I will always pick up, whether they are historical, contemporary or Amish. I love them all!
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.
This is a stand-alone novel that publishes on October 5, 2021.
Bird watchers will love this story. Lots of information about the different birds in the area complete with birding journal. I liked that Micah was coming out of his shell more after the bullying that he endured. Penny was such a giving soul with eyes always on God. The twist about Ben was unexpected but welcomed. Overall, this slow moving story was sweet.
ne decision altered the course of life for generations to come.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Totally surprised by this one. I learned about birds and their unique ways. It was tied into the plot nicely. The power of faith in contentment. The life of faith is two fold- One in thankfulness and one in hope. Ben Zook has come back to his childhood home. He left the Amish suddenly and is now a famous author of birds. Bird watching is very popular and discovering different birds and their ways teaches us something about ourselves. Ben has come back to his hometown because of a rare bird sighting for his new book. He is staying with an Amish brother and sister - Micah and Penny. Micah is a bird guide with social anxiety and Penny is his sister who watches over him.
Penny knew Ben Zook years back when they were young children and he had left a mark on her. Their love for birds was shared one summer when Penny had visited her grandmother and met Ben Zook. She never knew why he left the Amish community but silently watched his career. She knew him coming back was God's way of bring Ben back to her. But when Ben arrives and has no recollection of their time together, she is perplexed but waits patiently for God's timing. Ben has also has brought his English cousin who is fresh from a life change herself. Natalie becomes intrigued by the Amish lifestyle while Ben is reminded of why he left.
Their story centers around searching for a rare bird that has been elusive. Our life questions such as the characters are relatable in many ways. We are always searching to be accepted, the meaning of life, finding purpose. All these questions lead to God and what faith really means. I was on vacation driving up to Minnesota in tears when Ben and Penny come to a head in their relationship. It gave me hope in the God I know and his goodness. Lovely characters and a beautiful story on God's presence. Highly recommend.
A special thank you to Revell and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
A Season on the Wind by award winning, best selling author Suzanne Woods Fisher is a fascinating Contemporary Amish novel. It is set in Pennsylvania and tells the story of sibling birdwatchers, Micah and Penny Weaver. This was such a fascinating story and taught me so much. Even if you are not an Amish fan, you will love this book. Trust me on this.
It is also the story of Amish fence jumper Ben Zook. He is a renowned bird expert and author of multiple books. He travels back to his Amish hometown after reports of a rare bird sighting. His cousin, Natalie, accompanies him. They stay in the Weavers’ guest house.
I adore books written by author Fisher. A Season on the Wind captured my attention immediately. I was invested in the story and the lives of the characters. Each character was unique and relatable. After a few chapters they became my friends, and I could picture myself in their little community. The author transported me into her story as I was reading. Her vivid descriptions took me behind the lenses of bird lovers and gave me a better understanding of them. There were many surprise twists as well as heartfelt moments.
I have read other bird watching books. This one by far educated me more on our feathered friends. After reading it I found myself lingering longer at the kitchen window after making coffee looking at them. I love it when a novel moves me in such a personal way.
There is so much good in this poignant tale. Life lessons on forgiveness, trusting God’s timing, faith, redemption, family, and love are just a few. The spiritual message is inspiring. If someone does not make a television series or movie out of this phenomenal masterpiece, it will be a shame.
This magnificent story earns a solid five stars from me, unless I may sneak in another star and give it a six. Yes, it is that good. Perfect for a reading group, the author has included Questions for Conversation before her Author’s Notes. I highly recommend it for lovers of nature, contemporary fiction, light romance, Amish, and inspirational fiction. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit but this is my honest opinion.
Amish fiction is where Suzanne Woods Fisher shines, although her other fiction works are quality reads in and of themselves. This is the first Amish fiction by Suzanne that I've read in a long while. Most Amish fiction that I've read recently has been syrupy sweet, but not this book.
Behind the plot of this book is birdwatching and bird counting, and it is the driving force of the plot. Ben Zook has come back to his hometown to find a rare bird to finish off his latest book. He hasn't been back since his brother died over twenty years ago. He's renting a guest house from Penny Weaver, who has loved him ever since she was twelve years old. Her brother is trying to make a living as a birding guide and has declared a bird sighting that he hadn't actually seen himself, but he was relying on the information of a friend. The hunt for this rare bird is the moving force in this novel, and it makes this read so worthwhile.
Without giving away any spoilers, I will say that mistaken identities, slight disabilities, mental illness, and strong faith play big parts of this book. Suzanne deals with each of the issues with dignity and aplomb. One of my favorite quotes from the book is this: "Wherever God puts us, He wants us in relationship with Him. That's for everyone wherever they are."
Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and the sighting of a rare bird.
