Criminal psychologist Erin Larson likes to kayak with a friend on the weekends for the peace and quiet. Unfortunately, Erin doesn't get that when they have to be rescued. When her mother goes into the hospital, Erin heads home to take care of her mother. Detective Nathan Campbell wants to find his detective father's shooter by investigating the cold case his father was working on. Years after dating, Erin and Nathan find themselves working together to solve a cold case. Soon they find their lives in danger. I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. From the beginning of the book, this book surprised me with its twists and turns. I purposely kept my description of the book vague so that you could experience that too. I love that Erin and Nathan are well developed multi-layered characters and have a second chance at romance. This book is so enthralling that I can't wait to see the next book in this series.
** “You have to have faith, Erin. God is going to see us through this. He’s going to make a way.” **
Elizabeth Goddard continues her Rocky Mountain Courage series with “Deadly Target,” a suspense thriller filled with non-stop action.
After a series of near-deadly incidents, criminal psychologist Erin Larson and Detective Nathan Campbell cross paths years after ending their relationship. As they come together to solve current cases, and figure out their connection to past events, they find themselves once again drawn to each other, all while attempting to protect each other from the targets on their backs.
“Deadly Target” is a heart-thumping thriller with enough twists and turns to delight any suspense fan. Goddard does a great job of weaving together a plot filled with many intertwined webs, as well as developing very real and relatable characters.
Readers will also find a number of great themes in “Deadly Target,” like by our work we are known; you have to look for the silver lining; only God can fix the broken; and we should always cast our cares upon Him.
Fans of authors like Lynette Eason, Lisa Harris, Patricia Bradley, Sandra Orchard and Terri Blackstock will truly enjoy this novel.
Although “Deadly Target,” which is due out Nov. 2, could be read as a standalone, I’d highly recommend reading the series’ first novel, “Present Danger.”
Five stars out of five.
Revell provided this complimentary copy through NetGalley for my honest, unbiased review.
Erin Larson is a criminal psychologist and cold case blogger, who is suddenly back in Montana to help her mother after an attempted suicide. Nathan Campbell is a police officer in Montana whose father, also a police officer, unexpectedly arrives from his home in Boston and gives Nathan an unexpected mystery to solve. There are a lot of twists and turns to this story and way too many catastrophic events all of which should have been fatal. Not very believable that they survived all three in close succession. I did enjoy the book though. I just think it could have used some tweaks.
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the second book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series. I found the beginning of this book very confessing, and it took me over 30% of this book just to get a little bit into this book. Just when I was starting to enjoy the storyline, I found it getting boring again. I also could not connect to the characters in this book either. I ended up giving up on this book after reading 73% of the book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
This is a book you cannot put down!!! Danger, suspense, and lots of twists and turns make this a great mystery/suspense novel. From the very first chapter, you are drawn into Erin's story and want to help her solve the mysteries (and danger) surrounding her and her ex, Nathan. I kept wishing I could read faster to see what happened next! Prepare to be surprised - maybe shocked - at where the clues lead! I received an advance copy from the publisher but all opinions are my own.
Elizabeth Goddard converted me into a "sneak-reader"!
Thats when you sneak away to read a few more pages and don't do what you're suppose to do!🤣🤣 This story is action-packed from beginning to end! The suspense just keeps building and building, hence the "sneak-reading"! We meet Nathan and Erin and are quickly immersed in the mistery surrounding them. Nailbiting stuff!
Wow! Wow! Wow! This is deffinitely a you‐cannot‐miss‐read!
Elizabeth Goddard just gets better and better with every new release.
Deadly Target, book two in the Rocky Mountain Courage series is a series of twists and turns that will leave the reader spinning. Shocking connections and surprise reveals gives a reader experience unlike another. It’s truly an exhilarating read.
Criminal psychologist Erin Larsen’s life is in danger. After a freak accident on the water, she heads home to care for her mother who is ill. Nathan Campbell’s dad was shot while fishing with Nathan, pulling him into a dangerous investigation. Danger is everywhere. No one can be trusted, except each other.
Lies. Deep, dark secrets.
A race to stay alive.
The past that finally catches up.
This story has it all, including reconciliation and redemption for our hero and heroine. A solid faith thread brings balance to the intensity of the storyline.
I can’t wait for book three of Elizabeth Goddard’s Rocky Mountain Courage series.

Elizabeth Goddard
Elizabeth Goddard's second entry in the Rocky Mountain Courage series did not disappoint!
From the very first chapter, the reader is drawn into the story. Along with Erin Larsen, you begin to sort through the clues, trying to uncover all the hidden secrets that abound in this story; to seek for the evil hiding in plain sight. Fast paced, moving from the Rocky Mountains to the east coast- with danger appearing at every turn, Erin and Nathan find themselves piecing together a puzzle. Nathan's father's last words before a gunshot rang out, spur Nathan to pursue the cold case his father was looking into, " Lives are at stake".
Along the way, Nathan and Erin find themselves drawing closer to each other once again. Although they split many years ago, their hearts still yearn for each other. Will they be able to overcome what separated them before and find true happiness together? Or will the evil from the past separate them forever?
This book was a page turner that I could not put down. Elizabeth has created characters that are real and that the reader begins to care about immediately. The story moves quickly, and it was impossible to put the book down once I began reading it.
Erin Larson let a secret from her past drive her out of the arms of the love of her life, Nathan Campbell, and away from her hometown, Big Rapids, Montana. She got a Ph.D. and became a criminal psychologist with a job in Seattle, Washington. She was out on the Puget Sound kayaking with her friend Carissa Edwards when a boat raced their way and rammed them. Both Erin and Carissa almost died. Erin had no sooner been rescued from that incident and was still on the rescue boat when she got a phone call from her ex, Nathan telling her that her mother tried to commit suicide and was being treated in the hospital in Montana. Erin raced home and the danger continued.
Nathan Campbell is a detective in Grayback County, Montana. He was thrilled to see his father back in Big Rapids, the father who had left him and his mother, and whom he hadn't seen in seven years. As they were fishing together in their old favorite fishing spot a shot rang out and Nathan's dad collapsed. Nathan's dad, Newt was about to tell him why he was back in Montana when his job as a detective was back in Boston as the bullet hit him. All Nathan knew was that he couldn't tell anyone about why his dad was in town. Nathan was officially off the investigation of his dad's shooting but that wasn't stopping him from investigating on his own. He needed a sounding board and decided that Erin Larson was his best choice. Nathan didn't realize it but the danger was closing in on him and Erin.
Deadly Target by Elizabeth Goddard is the second book in her Rocky Mountain Courage series. This is a super suspenseful second chance romance. It's chock full of action and Ms. Goddard manages to ratchet up the tension more and more as the storyline unfolds. The two main characters Erin and Nathan faced so many dangers in this story they surely kept their guardian angels working overtime. I enjoyed reading some of the surprise revelations sprinkled throughout the book. This is a great addition to the series.
Deadly Target by Elizabeth Goddard is a romantic suspense in the Rocky Mountain Courage series. Each can be read alone.
Erin is a criminal psychologist who has taken a break to help take care of her mom who tried to commit suicide even though she doesn’t remember it. In addition, Erin has a podcast where she talk about cold cases.
Nathan Campbell is a detective. He is trying to figure out what cold case was his dad working on when he was shot.
Elizabeth adding some unique situations in this book and I really enjoyed it. Loved the cold case thread, what it revealed and how it ended.
Deadly Target is an inspirational romance that has plenty of twists and turns to keep you turning the pages.
Another wonderful romantic suspense novel by Elizabeth Goddard. This is probably one of my favorite novels of hers, along with Never Let Go. She is an author I always look forward to reading, and I’m never disappointed. Beautiful scenery, lots of action, and characters with a past history. The author always amazes me with the twists and turns in the storyline that I’m not expecting. Great novel.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to write a a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
Deadly Target by Elizabeth Goddard kept the action pumping with plenty of twists and turns that will keep readers guessing and flying through the story. The action was my favorite part. Goddard does a wonderful job at amping up the suspense for the heroine. She kept throwing her and the hero in tricking spots that readers will not see coming. Romance, of course, develops, but the story does focus more on the suspense than the romance, which is the way that romantic suspense should be written. The plot was unique and different. The moment of truth for the heroine was not something I have ever read before. It was thrown in, and I was a little shocked. Did not see that coming. If readers enjoy a good chase from the bad guys and want to know why, then this is a good story close to a cozy mystery with a little more edge to the plot. Overall, Deadly Target by Elizabeth Goddard was a delight to lose myself in. Romantic Suspense fans should pick up this novel.
I received a complimentary copy of Deadly Target by Elizabeth Goddard from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
The pacing and surprises in this book are spot on, keeping the reader engaged to the very last word. I couldn’t put it down.
Family ties can sometimes be deadly, even if you don’t know the details of your own life.
Erin is enjoying a day on the water when she and a friend are targeted by a boat determined to sink them. But was it really deliberate?
Nathan hasn’t seen his dad for years, until the day he shows up, takes him fishing, and gets shot in the head. Why was he targeted?
When they both end up in the same place at the same time are they brought together by circumstance, or is there a divine purpose? If they can find answers and survive the target on their backs they might just get a second chance.
I highly recommend this book.
I was given a copy courtesy of Revell a division of Baker Publishing Group. This is my honest review.
Deadly Target is fantastic! I loved every minute of it. The race to uncover the truth in this complex edge-of-your-seat, don't-see-it-coming romantic suspense by author Elizabeth Goddard is her best yet and my new favorite. I highly recommend Deadly Target for lovers of romantic suspense.
Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.
‘Evil wouldn’t let her forget that it existed, even for a few hours.’
Elizabeth Goddard is a great voice in inspirational suspense and I have long enjoyed her books. This one is action packed with enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. And Goddard throws in a very surprising twist to boot! Recommended.
My thanks to Revell Publishing for a copy of this book via the Net Galley platform. The opinion here is my own.
Elizabeth Goddard never disappoints! Book 2 in her Rocky Mountain Courage series follows Erin Larson and Nathan Campbell through surprisings twists and turns. The suspense was spot-on and Nathan is a fantastic hero. Strong, protective, smart--and a man with a lot of heart. Erin is a strong heroine, but not afraid to ask for help or appreciate having someone to back her up. Readers will enjoy not only their developing re-romance (they were previously a couple), but a thrilling keep-you-guessing plot where you really aren't sure who you trust or who your characters should trust. My warning to readers? You may not put it down until you finish. Thank you to Net Galley for an advance copy of this novel to read. All opinions expressed are my own.
This second book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series reunites criminal psychologist Erin Larson and detective Nathan Campbell. Their investigation of a cold case involving both of their families targets them for danger. Set mostly in Montana, this riveting, unputdownable read drew me in with the first line and kept me invested and guessing until the satisfying ending. This quote sums up for me the “feel” of the non-stop, heart-pounding action of the story: “Danger seemed to chase them at every turn. How many near-death experiences would she have in this life time?” A multi-layered yet easy to follow plot, memorable characters, pulse-racing action, and sweet second chance romance combine to make an exciting, entertaining read. I appreciate that the mild violence is never graphic and is tempered by the story’s faith element. Although there is a carryover of characters from the first book in the series Present Danger, this one can easily be read as a stand-alone. I thoroughly enjoyed this thrilling narrative from master romantic suspense writer Elizabeth Goddard and highly recommend it and the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Going to try to turn off my romantic-suspense cynicism for this review, because Deadly Target by Elizabeth Goddard does not deserve it. While unrealistic in many ways, Goddard’s second installment of her “Rocky Mountain Courage” series is a whirlwind adventure from the first chapter to the conclusion. It features typical genre clichés—a past relationship that went sour, a “damaged” character, and a big secret. The novel, however, is so action-packed that you cannot focus on its boilerplate characteristics. While maybe not for everyone, Deadly Target hit the bullseye for me.
Erin is a forensic psychologist with an up-and-coming cold case podcast. She returns to home to care for her mother. She originally left for her career, leaving Nathan behind with a hurt and confused heart. Someone shoots Nathan’s father due to his connection to a case. Nathan’s instructed to trust no one, but he brings in Erin believing her special skills can help. Little does either of them know what dangers they would face: Shooters, bombs, floods. As the questions and threats erupt, so do Nathan and Erin’s feelings for each other. Mysteries abound, and dots eventually connect together to reveal a bigger conspiracy than anyone could anticipate.
I enjoyed Deadly Target by Elizabeth Goddard. It is such a fun read, exciting every step of the way. The characters are not very relatable, but they are still likeable. Nathan was, to me, too perfect. And Erin’s focus on her big secret and how she could never reveal it because no one would accept her ever again…really? But the twists and turns in the novel’s plot—goodness! Goddard is brilliant. I didn’t know what to expect next. I figured everything connected together, but I never anticipated the how. Saying much more about the how would reveal too many spoilers, so I’ll stop there. Just know it’s about as exciting as you might be thinking!
This novel has it all—heartbreak, forgiveness, redemption, flirting, humor, explosions, gunshots, criminal activity…everything. In some novels, it might’ve been too much. But if this book were an episode of Food Network’s Chopped, Goddard would be the unanimous champion. She combines what might be “too much” with some authors into a “just right” story that will leave readers breathless. From the moment I began reading Deadly Target, I rarely put it down. Could I physically set it on my table? Absolutely. But I could not mentally let it lie. I evaluated it, asking questions in my head and aloud.
Deadly Target has its imperfections—like all novels—but all things considered, it’s a great rainy-day novel. One you can pick up and finish in four hours without feeling guilty. With its exhilaration and fast-paced, never-stopping-for-a-breath plot, time will fly by for you as it did for me. The novel is a wonderful addition to Goddard’s “Rocky Mountain Courage” books, and I can’t wait to read the third one…if there is a third one. If it’s not in the works already, Elizabeth Goddard, consider this review my personal and official request!
A romance novel
Rocky Mountain Courage book #2
I love authors under the Publisher Revell their books have an excellent and captivating story. The narrative and dialogue are clear and clean and as the plot moves along it is easy to find ourselves being hooked in so much suspense that it is hard to put the book down especially when the rush of adrenaline hits. Along the storylines we find a teasing romance that last from the opening till the conclusion and this triggers some emotions...I liked to slap the characters to get on with it. Since “Revell” is Christian publisher we do not have over the top sex scenes. Elizabeth Goddard is one of my favourite author I enjoy reading and I love how she pens an intriguing story for our enjoyment.
Although “Deadly Target” is part of a series it stands well by itself.
Now that you know what I think...time to give you a snippet of the storyline:
“Crime psychologist turned podcaster Erin Larson agrees to assist a county detective in finding answers to a cold case. The deeper they dig the more dangerous the situation gets.”
Main characters: Erin Larson, podcaster and criminal psychologist and Nathan Campbell, detective and Erin’s ex-boyfriend
Ms. Goddard excels in bringing to life these two characters through their actions and in the manners they face difficult situations. Along the way we meet a mix of characters we love to hate....maybe even love some of them.
“Deadly Target” is well said and well-done
This is an action packed story, that really keeps you on your toes until the end. Erin Larson is a criminal psychologist who returns to her childhood home to care for her mother after she attempts suicide. An old friend asks for her help unraveling details about a cold case his father was working on before he was shot. They begin investigating, unsure of who they can trust, and as more information comes to light, they find themselves a target of the enemy, but who is the enemy? And who is the real target?
If you're a fan of high-paced action and suspense in Christian fiction, you'll enjoy this one!
