It was such a good book. I enjoyed all the time. I got surprised when I saw the lenght because I thought it will be a short book because you won't expect much story for a one night stand story but were such realistic and well structured characters that I dindn't feel that I have enough of all of them.
this story is about Sarah a women that an old boyfriend broke her heart and has childhood mas that makes that se can not trust too anybody even someone who you know never going to hurt you.
Is an excellent character i really want her as a friend who tell me advices and go out to parties.
In the other hand we have Declan, someone who can trust and definitely feel safe, He is the kind of people who live something in their past but they don't let that situation drive their future.
When the both of them meet you know it will be forever only they don't know.
I definety give 4 stars to this book, it will be as reading advices for a good friend, You will learn something when you finish. Please read it.
I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Declan and Sarah are really one couple of a kind. I've seen myself reflected in this beautifully complex main character so much through the book. She's opinionated but indecisive, sure but sometimes doubts herself and has extreme trust issues. She's also a Scorpio just like me! Maybe that's why I love her so much. From growing up seeing her parents failed marriage to going into her first serious relationship and seeing it end badly, Sarah can't fall for the charming Irish accent and easy smile Declan — her one-night stand — always puts on. But Declan isn't only the confident one-night stand she had to kick out of her apartment, he's also her best friend Annies future brother-in-law and best man at her wedding. But their coincidental meetings and adventures don't end at the wedding and follow them to New York where they get closer and closer and closer...
This book was so much fun and once I started reading it I couldn't put it down, following page after page and enjoying the funny banter and cute moments Declan and Sarah share.
I couldn't recommend it more!!
"You've got a suit thing?"
"A tuxedo thing," I correct."
So do I, Sarah, and I'm not ashamed to say it, lmao.
Sarah Anderson has to go to the wedding of her best friend, Annie, in Ireland and there, she finds that the best man of the groom is the guy who she slept with a few nights ago, and who kicked out of her bed.
What are the chances?
oK, HOLY SHIT. THIS WAS AMAZING!!!
A wedding in Ireland? My dream. A hot Ireland guy who I pictured the whole time as Tom Hiddleston (I know he's English lmao)? I'm totally in.
I loved this book, from the beginning to the end. And I found myself at 12:34 am craving for more, lmao, I don't recognize myself.
I liked Sarah's character. She's not so complex and she knows she's beautiful and that she likes sex.
"I am a woman who likes sex and who isn't afraid to seek it out."
yAS, QUEEN, YOU GO AND ENJOY YOURSELF, BUT BE CAREFUL.
The pacing, the writing, the characters, the development, the romance, the humror... Everything was really great. Y'all know (because I've said it enough times) that I don't read much romance novels because I'm a hopeless romantic bitch who thinks that something like THIS is never gonna happen to her, which is sad.
Claire has been secretly in love with Mark for 3 years and honestly, I can relate because she never made any moves on him, lmao, that was me.
Declan's family is really cool and comfy, tho I wanted to kick some of them, lmao. I really loved Declan, he's funny, charming, lovely, has a big ass heart and looks so fucking good in a tuxedo. Yeah, I want someone like him.
Taylor Swift's London Boy raised my expectations on men, you know? But One Night Only slapped me in the face and said "yeah, well, now you want an Irish dude", and tbh, I agree. I'm not taking less, hahaha jk.
The only weird thing about this book was the smut. Usually, romance novels tend to describe a little bit more of sex, but this one didn't, which is cool. But, the weird thing is that I found myself almost screaming because I wanted more, lmaooooo.
When this book gets published, you must read it.
Delicate by Taylor Swift suits perfectly, yesssss.

Thank you to @netgalley and @bookoture for an ARC of this book.
Sarah was such a real character. She felt like a friend you’d wanna go gossip over cocktails with. She was unapologetic about her ambitions and actions which was super refreshing.
Declan was an absolute dream of a love interest. Sarcastic, sweet AND Irish?! Yes please. I loved how they balanced out eachothers imperfections to make sweet lil romantic sandwich.
Whilst I loved seeing the chemistry between them build, I did unfortunately find that the book dragged a little in places particularly in the middle.
However I’d definitely check out more of Catherine’a witty writing in future. An all round enjoyable, fluffy romance read!
A witty and remarkably fun story, One Night Only is Catherine Walsh’s debut novel featuring an architect terrified of (yet starved for) an intimate and romantic connection and a bartender-entrepreneur looking to sweep her off her feet.
When Sarah goes to Ireland to attend the wedding of her best friend, she has everything planned: forget about having lost her promotion at work, deliver a killer speech as the maid of honor, and maybe hook up with one of the groom’s attractive, young, single relatives. What she did not plan for was running into Declan Murphy, the brother and best man of the groom, as well as the one night stand that she thought she left behind in New York.
This was an incredibly enjoyable read! The humor was well-placed and actually made me laugh, rather than exhale harshly through my nostrils with corny jokes or cheesy one-liners. Sarah and Declan’s banter tickled me throughout the story and their chemistry when together was striking, and it made their coupling at the end of the book feel authentic. They were both equal parts hilarious and sympathetic characters, and I longed to know more about their story by the time the book came to an end. It was a pleasant surprise to see how well-developed Walsh’s characters and plot were, considering that this is her first novel!
That being said, I did want to point out that while Declan and Sarah are endgame and I loved their dynamic and relationship, it was slightly problematic how their relationship began and progressed from their first meeting, and I am not referring to them having a one-night stand. This may be a personal preference of mine when consuming media, but I don’t particularly like the trope of male characters riling up women they barely know and it being played off as charming because the woman was attracted to them. In fact, during their first encounter with each other at the wedding after their tryst, Declan announces to his whole family and Sarah’s best friend (after Sarah specifically told him not to, no less) that they slept together, and this brash behavior continues as Sarah and Declan continue to chance upon each other in the world. Declan certainly improves, and this is not to say that Sarah did not have any flaws in her own character throughout the story, but the aforementioned trope was something that I was not a fan of.
Yet, despite the rocky start to their relationship, Declan and Sarah’s love story developed into something that felt incredibly genuine. Love stories are boring when both parties have a ‘perfect’ relationship with each other where they wax poetic about the other; Sarah and Declan have problems that they confront together, they challenge one another, and they eventually get to a point where they can playfully insult one another.
Catherine Walsh’s One Night Only will take you only one night to read; with a heartening push-pull summer romance, you will not want to put this book down.
Hilarious and witty rom-com! A great opening really hooked me in. Excellent character development and dialogue. I love Declan! Accent, tuxedo, funny, and a romantic?! Yes please!! Sarah’s humor and wit was also very enjoyable. I felt like the plot dragged a little bit in the middle and really could have been cut down, but overall a great story! A great summer rom-com that will melt your heart! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
The summary of this book had me completely excited to dive in. Sarah's pleasure of choice is one night only. If you want something serious, look elsewhere. She is not the girl to give more than a night. Enter Declan, her latest one and done. It was fun, she scratched an itch, she kicked him to the curb the next morning. Bye-bye, next!! Sarah never expects to see Declan again, especially in Ireland at her best friends wedding. Wouldn't you know, not only is Sarah the maid-of-honor, but Declan, the last man to see Sarah naked is the groom's brother. Talk about a small world. This is fine, everything is fine. They sort of interact with each other, but it's mostly Declan teasing Sarah, him acting like a man child, and her getting annoyed by him. But still, she wants to break her one night only rule. Instead of one-and-done, it's two-and-done. Finally, Sarah has Declan out of her system. But back home she can't stop thinking about him, and it's not just sex on the brain. Did Sarah catch feelings?
This is where the book takes a turn for me, and not in an "Oh my goodness, this is SO good, I can't wait to see what happens next" kind of way. More in a "This plot makes no sense and I want to slap both Sarah and Declan because they are both SO awful." At first I thought Sarah was a strong, independent, sexually confident woman who knows exactly what she wants. Turns out, Sarah has NO clue what she wants. She has a lot of baggage that makes her afraid of feelings and commitment, yet she constantly goes back and forth with what she wants from Declan. Her feelings swing between wanting to trust him and be with him to just wanting to sleep with him. She was going back and forth so fast I felt like I was getting whiplash. It was bad enough that she was unsure of what she wanted, it was understandable, but I felt like she was totally screwing with Declan's feelings. His feelings were mostly hard to read though because, like I said, he acts like a total man child that really only speaks if he is teasing or making a joke at Sarah's expense.
Sarah and Declan didn't have a single mature-adult-getting to know you conversation until 70% into the book. What?!? How did either one of them feel a SINGLE thing for each other when they have never really talked. Ugh!! And even worse, there wasn't even an exciting plot twist until 75% in. I thought "FINALLY" we are getting somewhere, here's the character development, but NO!! Sarah and Declan didn't even talk about the issue at hand, surprise surprise. I felt like the conflict was glossed over without a realistic solution. It was a total let down, much like the book as a whole.
Thank you NetGalley for sending this arc for an honest review!
This book was a perfect combination of sadness, comedy, and romance. Seeing the MC struggle to beleive she could love the ML after the one night stand was hilarious to encounter because I’m sure we’ve all been there. And than seeing her go to a wedding to find out the man she had a one night stand with was the best man? Mind blowing indeed.
He must of looked really good for her to never be able to stop thinking about him.
A sweet story, quick summer romance book for when you’re sat outside in your garden reading. I liked the idea of the Irish bar in New York setting and I found the wedding scenes quite funny.
The honest reason I’ve only given this book three stars? I found this book really difficult to get into because I felt that the main character just wasn’t very likeable… she seemed over confident, quite rude and indecisive and there wasn’t much throughout the book that redeemed her.
One Night Only was a cute, summer rom com. Sarah needs a break - after getting passed up on a promotion at work and losing her biggest client, she is excited for her vacation, her best friend's wedding in Ireland. After an unexpected one night stand, Sarah is ready to get a fresh break from New York for awhile. Only she runs into the charming one night stand at her best friend's wedding - and can't seem to get rid of him. Does she mind? She can't quite figure it out, as she battles her own feelings and personal chaotic life.
This was a surprisingly heartwarming rom-com! One Night Only is lighthearted, funny, and also digs a little deeper than some other rom-coms do. The story follows Sarah who has a flat out policy of one night stands in order to protect herself. She's an architect living in NYC with a roommate, and is set on meeting men, just not going farther than one night. Her best friend Annie is getting married in Ireland and she is the maid of honor. What she doesn't know is that her one night stand is also the groom's brother. Cue Declan, a devastatingly handsome Irishman who she kicked out of bed the morning before. Never in a million years did she think she was going to run into him again. As the story progresses we learn more about why Sarah has her strict policy and how Declan to her annoyance is slowly breaking down these walls that she worked so hard to put up. Even though I wanted to shake Sarah sometimes on how stubborn she was being you understand why she was so guarded. And it turns out that Declan has a secret of his own. I loved the witty banter between them, the flirting and attraction. The dialogue was laugh out loud funny and the characters were relatable. Fans of How to Lose A guy In Ten Days will love the relationship between Sarah and Declan. A great book to read while sitting on the beach with your toes in the sand! I can't wait to see what Catherine Walsh comes out with next! This book releases on July 30th. Thank you Netgalley and Bookoture for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest reveiw!
Sarah Anderson doesn't do relationships, just one night stands! But when she bumps into one her latest dates at her best friend's wedding in Ireland, she finds the handsome Declan Murphy getting under her skin more than she likes. Sarah was a great character and I loved her 'love 'em and leave 'em' attitude. As you get to find out more about her, you begin to realise why she's like she is! With a disastrous previous relationship and her parents unhappy marriage, it's no wonder that Sarah is happy with just one night. Declan might just be the one who can change all that however, but if she doesn't fall for his Irish charms, then I certainly will!
This was a lovely romantic comedy with plenty of love, life and laughter. I have to admit it wasn't as funny as I first imagined, but there were plenty of moments that raised a smile and got me laughing! The main characters, Sarah and Declan, are very likeable and I found myself hooked into their storyline. Their chemistry worked really well, despite Sarah trying her best not to let that happen, and at times I could feel the simmering passion coming through the pages!
This was my first book by this author and I'll definitely be reading more! The plot was well thought out, taking me on a journey I hadn't expected and it flowed along at an enjoyable pace holding my interest throughout. I loved the locations with the hustle and bustle of New York and the beautiful scenery of Ireland. This added to the great writing and fun dialogue made this such a likeable read. A realistic story full of friends, romance and life lessons it certainly made sure I kept turning those pages to the very end! Would recommend!
It is about time for a book to normalise one-night stands. Many books who have characters having one-night stands, it is for them to find love and not to find orgasms. Yet, our main character searches for orgasms, gets one and tries to turf a reluctant man out the morning after. If it wasn't for a wedding that Sarah has to go to Ireland for she probably would have never bumped into the guy again, and definitely would never have to be the pair maid of honour to his best man. Sarah also definitely would not have broken her cardinal rule
Never sleep with the same guy more than once.
I also love the use of the Sarah's job within the book, it is not a side gig to her love life and she is not a love-less workaholic. This is a real character with real problems and with issues which has affected her love life and she shows the desperate need of communication in life with those we love about the difficult topics.
This made me snort with laughter at 6 o'clock in the morning. I cannot wait to read other realistic romances from Ms Walsh.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
One night only? More like one day only, because that's how long it took for me to devour this book.
This book was the most flawless & charming rom-com I've read in a while. It was absolutely hilarious & had me full-on cackling several times. This book was a captivating whirlwind of slow-burn, angsty romance that had me invested until the very last page.
I loved Sarah. She was effortlessly hilarious & had so much personality. She was blunt & straightforward, yet still harbouring a baggage-filled backstory. It was written extremely well, how her past subtly affected her perspective & the way she treated herself & the people around her. I absolutely LOVED how self-aware, unapologetic & always spoke her mind. She was also charming & delightful so reading from her perspective was super refreshing. Declan was the epitome of a bad boy exterior but good boy interior. He was so witty & attractive. Not only that, he was realistic! He wasn't perfect, no. He had very real problems & very real flaws but he really was the definition of someone who was trying. Trying to do better. Trying to be better. And that was perfect for me.
Obviously, as is in all low-concept, contemporary rom-coms, it has a character-driven plot. If you're someone who has to have a plot, I promise you it won't matter because all the characters are SO lovable & funny that you won't even realise you've flown through the book. Even the side characters had me cracking up! The side characters definitely played a role in how much I enjoyed the book. Will & Sarah's interactions were extraordinarily hilarious I truly could not stop laughing & smiling like an idiot. They literally did not even feel like plot-devices & I would LOVE to read spin-off stand-alones on these side characters because they ALL had personality & were very 3D. Especially Will.
There was no drag at all. That's why I finished it in one day because I truly was hooked from the first page up until the end. The characters were so likeable & charming, it was hard not to turn the page. I was rooting for the couple so hard! The ANGST. The SLOW-BURN. Now that was delicious. The most well-done element of the book, no doubt.
As far as rom-com goes, this book is The One for me. Highly highly recommend.
ONE NIGHT ONLY is an impressive contemporary romance that has so much going on one can’t put it down. What drew me to the story originally was the idea of two from a one night stand meeting again unexpectedly.
But that doesn’t begin to capture what is so compelling about this story. You wouldn’t guess Sarah is the kind of woman that couldn’t get the guy out her apartment fast enough the next morning to get to her job at an architecture firm that she didn’t want to put a lot of effort into. Or that Declan seemed to be broody and aimless after trying so hard not to get kicked out of her apartment.
So with each character there are their secrets and pieces of baggage - some shared freely and others you will never guess until you read them. And the question is, when everything comes tumbling down at once, what will be left of Declan and Sarah?
The story is told from Sarah’s POV so you experience all the cleverly written emotions with her. Walsh created primary and secondary characters that were memorable. I especially liked Will, so keep your eye on him while reading this very good story.
I voluntary read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
There was a lot to like about this, from the trip to Ireland to the teasing & flirting to the recognition of the importance of all kinds of relationships. (Will, her co-worker, was a particular delight and I wish we got more time with her friends (maybe there were too many in different areas of her life so we never really got to know any of them?) because it seemed like they kept being dropped in and out.) Though there was a bit of a change of pace in the middle, I did really like that the story took place over the course over a few months, and without a major time jump, rather than a weekend.
Declan was really sweet and fully on-board, which almost made it hurt more that Sarah kept pushing him away. It didn't go unnoticed by me that he completely respects her choices and never tries to change her mind, but she jumped in and out one-too-many times for me and I ended up feeling pretty sad and wanted more grovel. There was also a few times when they talked about the importance of sitting down and having a conversation, and unless I missed it, I didn't think it really happened, or at least it didn't go very deep. There were definitely things that made me want to put this author's next book on my shelf, just that certain parts didn't work for me.
This was a cute, charming romance. Declan and Sarah had really nice chemistry and I like the banter and tension between them. The first part of the book centred around the wedding in Ireland was funny and entertaining. There was a bit of a lull once the story moved back to NYC but it picked up again when Sarah and Declan reconnected. Sarah’s fears and insecurities felt perfectly understandable even if she was a little frustrating at times in how she dealt with her budding feelings for Declan. I did like her friend circle, especially Annie and Will (the snark was strong with him). Overall an enjoyable read (3.5 ⭐️)
I really enjoyed and connected with this book. I thought it was really well written and very funny. She’s a gifted writer.
I liked the characters and I thought the story was believable and interesting. I will read more from this author.
3.5 stars. This was a lot of fun! From page 1, I was totally hooked and could not put it down. I was obsessed with the humor of our main character Sarah and I LOVEDDDDDD the chemistry between her and Declan right from the start. With that being said, I will say this did drag a little bit in the middle during a chunk of the story when the characters were apart, but once they were back together I was all in again and this was just an all around blast. Overall I was just really impressed by this debut from Catherine Walsh and I am very much looking forward to reading more from her in the future!
CW: sexual assault, divorce
Overall, I enjoyed the book. I thought it was funny, well written, and the characters had depth and personality. Would recommend
