Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for this digital arc.

I enjoyed ‘One Night Only’ more than I thought I would. I was pleasantly surprised to see there was more behind the main plot of Sarah and Declan having already slept together before the wedding. I loved learning about both their past and why Sarah was so against relationships, plus there was a little surprise twist with Declan that I didn’t see coming at all (which is very unlike me!). Another highlight for me was definitely that it wasn’t just about Sarah and Declan, and that we actually learned a lot about the side characters. The main draw-in is definitely the relationship between our two main characters though, they were adorable and shared some hilarious moments!

I loved spending time in Sarah and Declan’s world. The story was so compelling I didn’t want to put it down. Definitely an enjoyable read.

They thought they had a one night only but sometimes life... works different than you want.
This book was fun to read. Yes, there were some "jokes" that made me cringed but overall it was a good book.
This started great and strong but then I was 45% in and so many things had happened already but I WAS ONLY AT 45%! This book felt so long and draggy and the middle part was so repetitive I felt like the same thing happened over and over again.
I had a much better experience with the audiobook so I fully recommend this book in that way.

This is Catherine Walsh’s debut novel, and I was immediately drawn to it by its title, synopsis and beautiful cover. Everyone that knows me, knows how much I enjoy the one-night stand trope that leads to the characters later seeking each other and becoming lovers, so obviously this one got my attention.

I have to say that the book was off to a great start by introducing the one-night stand trope and the connection between the main characters that they would realize later in the book. The plot is centered around Sarah who is going on a trip to Ireland as the maid of honor to her best friend’s wedding, this is when she realized that her one-night stand companion from New York is the groom’s brother Declan. I really enjoyed reading this first part of the book, and I was pleased to find out that Sarah and Declan would later see each other in the story since they both had jobs located in the same area in New York.

This book is perfect for readers that are looking for something light, fun, and cute. I think the main characters’ dynamic is something that the author really excelled at writing about since it was clear how much chemistry Sarah and Declan shared in their every scene, and their banter was the element that brought the humor to the book. While it is true that I found that Sarah was too hesitant in some situations regarding her relationship with Declan, I tried to understand her POV but I believe that the entire Matthias plot should have been left off. They didn’t really share many scenes and it was clear as day that she was meant to go after Declan, who was obviously interested in her from scene one.

All in all, it is a book that has the perfect combination of humor, heart, scenery and charged moments!

Thank you Netgalley and to the author for allowing me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed reading this rom-com of a book. The fact that it was him that liked her first was what I loved most as you don't see that much in books these days. It made me laugh at some points and I definalty needed to fan myself at other points because dam, it was hot.

I'll defianlty look out for the next book this author writes.

This is a great read!! It is lots of fun and I have been hooked from the very beginning. This is a book with an absolutely wonderful main character.

This is well-written and the author has portrayed the chemistry so well- it is evident to the reader. This is a novel which is filled with humour from the beginning. This has been a fun read filled with laugh out loud moments.

This is a new author for me, I cannot believe that this is a debut novel. I have absolutely been converted as a fan of this author and eagerly awaiting more.

My Review:

This amusing and original romantic comedy was laced with delightfully clever snark, complex and intriguing characters, and crisp and witty banter that kept me smirking. I occasionally lost patience with the main character of Sarah as she was rather abrasive and self-consumed, but I enjoyed her bumbling encounters and comical misadventures.

The writing was fresh and humorously irreverent while featuring generous servings of enticing, endearingly quirky, and well-etched characters as well as snide Sarah’s cynical and caustic observations and inner musings. I adored the bride and Sarah’s best friend Annie, whose storylines provided a considerable share of the comedy.

I was amazed in noticing this smoothly polished tale was this up-and-coming author's first published book. Impressive to say the least!

Thanks so much to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this early edition. This book has it all, it's funny, sad, somewhat tragic and very romantic. Sarah and Declan meet and sleep together one night. They part ways. This is not unusual behaviour for Sarah who has commitment issues since gee last breakup. Thinking that is it Sarah is very surprised to meet her best friend's new brother in law and recognise him so intimately. Can the pair work through their commitment issues. Or where they meant to be a one night only thing. A brilliant read that literally kept me awake.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'One Night Only' by Catherine Walsh.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Catherine Walsh, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 30th July 2021.

This is the first book I have read by this author. It is also her debut novel.

I was originally drawn to this book by its colourful cover and intriguing, hilarious sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Fans of Sophie Ranald, Sophie Kinsella and Marian Keyes won’t be able to put this down!'.  I am a huge fan of Sophie so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 35 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in New York, USA 🇺🇸 and Ireland 🇮🇪 , UK 🇬🇧. I always enjoy when books are set in the UK as I'm from Wales and have sometimes visited areas mentioned in the book. This makes it easier to picture where the scenes are set at times. I have in fact visited and holidayed in Ireland on many occasions so am looking forward to possibly recognising name places.

This book is written in third person perspective and the protagonist is Sarah Anderson. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

'One Night Only' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Catherine discusses/includes sexial scenes.

This is a fantastically written book that has vivid descriptions which will make you feel that you are breathing the Irish air, hearing the sea clash and looking over to the empire state building. It takes you on a journey from New York to London and I was gutted when I had to pack my case to come back home. The title, synopsis and cover suit the storyline perfectly.

The storyline itself is sexually charged and filled with one night's stands, comedy, romance, sex, friendship and fun. It definitely reminded me of Bridget Jones during some parts!! If you shy away from sex this book is not for you. In fact., that's what it reminded me of, 50 shades of grey during some scenes, yes... Bridget Jones meets 50 shades of Grey!!! It was nice to see a woman doing the dumping after a night of passion instead of the man. However, it all goes wrong for Sarah when she goes to her best friends wedding in Ireland to discover her last one night stand is also there!!! This had me in stitches on several occasions and at other times left me shouting at Sarah wondering what she was doing. The only thing that did niggle at me is when Sarah meets Fiona and Fiona mentions Declan's art phase and museum prints yet it is never mentioned again.

A great, fun read from any authour, especially considering this is Catherine's debut novel so congratulations Catherine on a great first book!

There were so many large and unique personalities in this book!! I love how Sarah decided she would take control of her relationships when it is usually men. I loved that she was a kick a## woman, however at times she did make me want to scream at her in her blindness and stubborness. I absolutely adored Will, he was sarcastic, funny and a right diva. My kind of guy right there!!! I really enjoyed watching his and Sarah's friendship develop and change throughout. Declan was absolutely gorgeous, I can still hear his sexy Irish accent now!!! He was funny, gorgeous, witty and sounded very good in certain places and of course he is Irish!!! What more could you want in a man?!!? Declan's family and Paul were also a massive hit for me and I absolutely adored them, I also think Sarah's dad was very sweet and I really did enjoy watching all the seperate relationships develop and change. Matthias is am absolute douche, I didn't like him when I met him and I couldn't stand him by the end. A lovely range of characters and I also loved the community spirit in Ireland, it definitely makes me want to go back as I know that is what it is really like.

Well done Catherine on a successful first novel and for making me laugh, scream and smile!!! I'm looking forward to your next success!!!

Overall a sexually charged, hilarious page turning novel filled with friendships, sex, love and family.

Genres covered in this book include Romance Novel, Humorous Fiction and Contemporary Romance amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of the 50 shades series, Bridget Jones diaries, Sophie Kinsella and Marian Keyes.

The main character of this book had #BigScorpioEnergy and I loved it. Sis had major trust issues and ran at every account. I felt both seen and attacked. The story was a quick sweet read. I really enjoyed the light-heartiness of Declan. There were some parts of the story that could’ve been left out like the entire Matthias plot point which would’ve helped the length of the story. Overall, it was a nice story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was such a fun read, perfect for the summer. I found the book really funny and cute, made me laugh so much. Although I did find the main character Sarah annoying towards the end because of her insecurity. Overall a lovely rom com to read.

Many thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

5 stars! I really enjoyed this book and the storyline! The pacing was very good and I really enjoyed how well written the characters were. The relationship built-up and the tension were very well done and I particularly enjoyed the banter between the characters. Highly recommend this book if you are looking for the perfect romance this summer. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the digital copy!

Razor sharp and brilliantly funny romantic comedy set in New York and Ireland. The characters are gorgeously flawed and relatable. Fantastic debut. I can't wait to read more from this author.

I really enjoyed this book and was surprised it was a debut book. Yes, there were moments I was frustrated with Sarah's thoughts/actions but I felt like it added some realness to the characters that can sometimes be missing in charming chick lits such as this. And the random laugh out loud lines sprinkled in the book were awesome, sometimes I didn't see them coming. Anytime I develop a crush on the main character I'm likely gonna round up and Declan did that for me. This book wasn't a perfect 5 stars but it left me smiling, laughing, and rooting for the main characters. I truly look forward to reading Walsh's next book!

This last week I read the book One Night Only by Catherine Walsh! I was lucky to get a digital ARC thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture, thank you for sending me one for review!

Semi-Spoilers Ahead!

Here is a quick recap of this book: Our main character, Sarah, has been unlucky in love and has sworn off relationships, instead she is the type of gal who loves a one night stand, or a late night booty call. So far, this has worked out great! But, right before she leaves New York and her lackluster job for a week-long vacation to Ireland for her BFF’s wedding she has a hook-up with a guy, whose name she can’t remember, but she also can’t seem to get out of her head (or bed) the next morning. Meet Declan. Declan Murphy is funny, charming, and handsome– good in bed, and keeps Sarah on her toes. But, Sarah being Sarah, shoos him away before he can get too close.

This seemed fine. It would be fine, and Sarah would fly to Ireland, hook up with a hot groomsman, or a cousin, and forget all about whatshisname from the bar that forgot his watch, and impress her best friend’s new family. BUUUT, PLOT TWIST! DECLAN IS THE BROTHER OF THE GROOM?! Can Sarah get through this wedding, and her life back in New York without falling for Declan and his charming accent? Only time will tell!

4.5/5 stars

One Night Only was such a fun read.

Sarah has a one date only rule- ever since the love of her life broke her heart. But her latest conquest doesn't seem to understand. Without so much as learning his name, she woke up the next morning and kicked him out.
Little did she know, he would be following her all the way to Ireland.
Declan is charming, funny and ambitious. Everything that Sarah needs and deserves. But she lets her doubts and insecurities get the best of her after she discovers that Declan has been keeping some secrets.

This book had me laughing, yelling at Sarah to chill out, yelling at Declan to be honest with her, high-fiving Declan's mom. This book was SO hard to put down!

This book had all the things I look for in a romance book-
enemies to loves
steamy banter
a little mystery
& of course the best part....
a HEA! <3

This is a fun contemporary romance
Featuring Sarah who never gives any man a second chance,
She’s a love ‘em then never see them again girl
Who never gives men another twirl.

So imagine her surprise when the last man she had
Turns out to be someone she can’t forget - to her that’s so bad!
However to make matters even worse is something other -
He turns out to be her best friend’s groom’s brother!

Travelling from the States to her friend’s Irish wedding do
She never expected to see Declan Murphy there, too.
Mind you, he also didn’t expect to see her there
Should she give him a second chance - does she dare?

This is a story of facing up to your fears
And exploring your own actions through the years
It is about how teen family drama can have an impact
On how you, as an adult, choose to act.

It is a story filled with friendship, love and laughter
Of daring to seek the one you’ll love ever after.
Declan is my hero, so patient and true
You’ll just have to read it to find what Sarah will do!

I also wish to say thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley too,
For my copy of this book for which I’ve written this honest review.

This is a very heartfelt, enjoyable debut romantic comedy. It honestly doesn't read as if it's a debut novel, because the characters are well-developed, the plot flows smoothly, and there's an amazing amount of romantic tension, broken by hilarious moments.

I loved the idea of a one night stand turning into something more, and once the reader finds out the whole story of the one night stand, there's a definite "awwww" moment. I also loved the idea that Sarah is the one who shuns relationships, she's the one who doesn't want to get involved. It is Declan doing the pursuing and Sarah doing the pushing away. It is such a refreshing turn of events to have the typical romance story turned around with the female being the impediment to the relationship. It made the book much more engaging and interesting to me.

I did get to a point where I thought Sarah maybe needed some therapy or some other type of help to be able to move forward towards a loving healthy relationship. I applauded Declan and his boundaries with Sarah at that point.

For all of the back and forth, it's a truly heartwarming novel that hit just the right spot during the hot summer months. Some humor, some heart, and some swoon-worthy Irish men make for a thoroughly enjoyable reading experience. Highly recommended for romance readers.

Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley. I had been reading a lot of crime books recently so I was excited for a change of pace with this romcom.
Okay, I have a confession to make. I am a sucker for an Irish accent, so when I saw the male lead in this book was Irish I just knew I had to read it.

Sarah and Declan were excellent lead characters. Sarah reminded me quite a lot of myself. There were quite a few traits that I thought yep I'd do that. Especially with all the questions. With Declan I had insta love. As I said I'm a sucker for Irish accents and his personality just did it for me. I loved the chemistry between these two. They bickered and teased like they had been together for years.

There were some great side characters in this book. I loved bestie Annie and roomie Sarah. Will is also a lot of fun I would love to work with him.

From start to finish this book is packed full of witty lines, It's one of those books that leave you smiling every time you finish a chapter. It's the perfect afternoon escapism.

this is an excellent debut that is fresh and funny. I can't wait for more from Catherine.

2.5/5 stars

This is an adult book so keep this in mind when reading and, as always, check trigger warnings.

This book was okay. Not my favourite book ever but not my worst. There were funny moments throughout the book but I found it hard to connect and really fall in love with the relationship with how negative and nasty Sarah, our MC, could be sometimes. I really didn’t see what our love interest, Declan, saw in her because she was constantly berating him and just being negative. There was a good 10% of the book that I considered dnf-ing (and this was just after the author included a comment about a 17 year old boy sleeping with a 20 year old and it was just brushed over).

I think I can see where this book was trying to go- funny rom-com with quirky one liners, but it just fell flat and was a bit laborious to read at times. The negative plot points and out look from our MC weren’t negated by much in this book, for e.g. our LI takes our MC up to a roof top with fairy lights and tries to be romantic and instead of seeing any positive in it, she just criticises it. Maybe she did enjoy it because she references it briefly later on but we don’t actually know if she was happy at all during that because it’s not mentioned. So the negative isn’t equivalent or even slightly matched by the positive, which is what I want when I read a contemporary romance, otherwise it can feel a bit exhausting to read.

Overall, would I read this book again? Probably not. Was it my favourite? No, but it wasn’t the worst book, the writing was decent and there were funny moments.
