4.5 Stars! I didn’t want to stop reading! What a great read. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author. Many thanks to NetGalley for an arc copy for my honest review.
This was a creepy and atmospheric read, centered on Liam and Laura, who are spending their honeymoon on a remote island in Scotland. The island is supposed to be deserted, though there are rumors that it is haunted; scary things start happening to let them know they are not alone. The story is narrated from Laura's POV, with chapters from the unknown stalker dispersed throughout.
I love reading about abandoned places and thought the author did a good job setting the tone. The things that happened to the couple were decidedly creepy. If I had one nit, it is that the middle of the book was a bit repetitive, with a lot of arguing over what to do next and pondering over who was doing this to them. I was able to forgive that when I got to the last third of the book, which was action-packed and contained multiple twists.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to those who love reading about abandoned places as well as those who are mystery fans. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Loved this! The ending was definitely not one I would have guess and didn't see it coming at all. The scenery, characters etc were so well-developed.
A must read for anyone looking for a mystery.
When Liam and Laura decide to honeymoon on a small remote island by themselves, they figure it's the perfect spot to relax and enjoy themselves. When they arrive the cottage is cozy and well-stocked with food and essentials. While Liam is eager to explore the history of the island, Laura is still coping with the sudden loss of her mother and is finding it difficult to join in to Liam's enthusiasm. As she begins to relax and enjoy herself she can't help but feel she's being watched. Her doubts are turned to fear when a stranger makes their presence known, cutting off their electricity and heat. Fearing for their safety, Liam and Laura try to outsmart the intruder only to find themselves fighting for their lives.
With so many unexpected twists and turns I enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. The ending was surprising and not what I predicted. Overall this is a good read and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Thank you Netgalley and Avon/Harper 360 for the opportunity to read this book.
If you love psychological thrillers like me, then you need to read this book! It had me hooked from page one and I could not put it down! I stayed up until 1:30 in the morning to finish it because I just had to find out what was going on. The writing is great, the setting is creepy, the story is filled with suspense, and the twists! I did not see them coming! I loved this book and will be looking to read more by this author.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper 360 for the e-arc of this book!
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author, for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
The synopsis of this book sounded intriguing to me so I requested a copy to read.
Unfortunately, I have tried reading this book on 2 separate occasions and during this 2nd attempt, I have
decided to stop reading this book
and state that this book just wasn't for me.
I wish the author, publisher and all those promoting the book much success and connections with the right readers.
Laura and her new husband, Liam, are taking their honeymoon on a island off the coast of Scotland. No one lives on the island and it has a ton of history and places to explore. While waiting for their boat to take them over, locals at a pub warn them about the island being haunted but they don’t think anything of it at the time. They thought they would be alone with no connection to the outside world for seven days, but are they?
This book had me hooked from the moment I started it. I love how it gave me chills and made me look over my own shoulder while reading. Any books where the characters are in a remote setting with no cell phones or way to connect with people makes a great story line.
I will definitely be reading more from this author.
What a book! What started out as a book about being stalked by an unknown person turns into a book about survival. I liked how this book hooks you and then sends you on a rollercoaster of emotions. What the reader thinks is happening, and what really happens is so far off. Once the reader finds out the true premise of the book, reading to the end of the book becomes imperative.
Newly married couple decide to spend their honeymoon on a remote, isolated island in Scotland. They soon realize that they aren't the only people on the island and things go from bad to worse when they lose power and communication is cut off from the mainland. Creepy with a surprising twist ending.
Read this if…you like thrillers with a small cast of characters, one of which is the setting itself.
Liam and Laura are newlyweds who decide to honeymoon on a privately owned island in Scotland. Laura hasn’t quite been herself since her mother passed away the morning after the wedding. This vacation is meant to brighten her spirits and give the couple a chance to relax and enjoy each other. It all sounds lovely, except they soon realize that they are not alone on the island. Someone is watching them and it quickly becomes obvious that this stalker has a deadly agenda. Liam and Laura are stranded on the island without any way to call for help. Before they can really begin their lives together, they have to survive the honeymoon.
Loved this one! It was a solid 4 stars for me and then the last third of the book came in with all the twists and turns! The setting was creepy and the characters were dynamic. I’ve never read this author before, but she has a lot of books out there I’m going to have to check out now.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author, and Harper 360 for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
While you might think this is just a run of the mill stalker story ... guess again!! Alderson leads us to a deserted island in Scotland and leaves us there for a week, a week with no contact, a week when strange things start to happen, a week when it’s discovered that the island isn’t quite as deserted as originally thought. Is there any chance of survival? Is the island haunted as the locals believe? A fast paced twisty story that keeps you on edge until reaching the final page!
I enjoyed The Stalker by Sarah Alderson very much. I was in a bit of a reading slump before I picked up this book and I was hooked from the beginning. I've only read one other of Sarah's books and both of them have started off with things happening from the get go. Some books tend to start with a slow build so I enjoy a book that hooks me from the start and doesn't let up. There were many moments where I just wasn't sure what was happening. I would have a theory and then a bit of information would arise and I would be back to questioning my theories. As unreliable narrators go, they don't always work but in this case it's a very smart move for the plot. Without giving anything away, I will say that I was happy with the reveal and the ending as I had big issues with a certain character and I just couldn't fathom certain traits without their being an answer for that. I was straight angry most of the book that these behaviors weren't being addressed but then it made sense with the twists and turns later on.
A pair of newly-weds enjoying their honeymoon on a remote Scottish island quickly discover that they aren't alone. Someone scratches an unsettling message into the window of their cabin and it quickly becomes obvious that the stranger means to harm them.
I absolutely loved this one! The setting is wonderfully atmospheric, with its ruined castle and ancient burial sites. The characters seem to really love each other. And the plot itself is suspenseful and kept me intrigued until the very end.
The perfect honeymoon becomes a nightmare for Laura and Liam. What starts as a romantic getaway turns into terror. They are being stalked by an unknown intruder. Each day, the stalker becomes more and more bold. Stranded on a remote island with no way out and no way to get help. They must survive at all costs. Questions begin to form and things aren’t what they seem. You will never see the ending coming!
This book is gripping thriller. It will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I read this in one sitting. I just had to know what was coming next.
I do want to say without spoilers that there should be a trigger warning concerning animals being harmed. Don’t let this stop you from reading, as this is truly excellent writing. Just be aware that it is mentioned.
This is an exceptional thriller and you will enjoy the ride.
I would like to thank Sarah Alderson, Harper 360, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book in exchange for my honest review.

The cover immediately grabbed my attention and I dove in blindly. I enjoyed the Scottish setting very much and the whole newlyweds on a remote island plot.
Imagine exchanging vowels then going to a remote island where the only way into the island is via boat and then visiting the local bar and being told by the regulars that it's haunted... If you ask me that's a big hell no! In that sense, while reading I got a strong ominous feeling, which for a thriller I crave! In other ways, this was just an okay read.
Firstly, the first three quarters or so are told through Laura, in the first-person narrative. "The stalker" also makes brief reflections. What follows is a sudden switch back to months prior and we are introduced to another first-person character.
For me sometimes less is more. I felt there were too many hints and clues that were dropped that led to inconsistencies in the story. In the end, I did really enjoy TS but it didn't necessarily knock my socks off over here!
On a more positive note, what I liked most was the author's atmospheric descriptions of the island and its history, I found that incredibly interesting.
The premise of this book intrigued me and I really wanted to like it, but unfortunately enjoyed very few things about "The Stalker." The first issue was with the beginning, which read almost like a romance book, with one too many sex scenes between the two main characters. I couldn't stand Laura or Liam and didn't care about what happened to them because they were so unlikable. The pacing felt slow for a thriller and I kept waiting for something to happen.
My other big issue was with the writing style and word choice, which kept pulling me out of the story. The author wrote, "I nod" so many times for the characters' actions that I imagined them all continuously nodding.
At the halfway point, I considered stopping, but this is when the pacing finally picks up, so I kept reading. Besides a plot twist that took me off guard, the second half of the book doesn't get much better, mostly because the second half of the book doesn't make sense at all. I won't elaborate because it would spoil what happens.
Trigger warning: domestic violence.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and Netgalley for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
WOW. What an incredibly written and crafted thriller! There were so many perspectives and moving parts yet everything felt well thought out and well developed. The story starts with Liam and Laura going on a belated honeymoon after a whirlwind courtship. They arrive at the port to go to an isolated island off the coast of Scotland for a week, something they both have always wanted to do. So this should be the perfect honeymoon, right? Soon, it appears that nothing is as it seems. There are twists that I didn't see coming and they were done in such a way that after each one I had to reevaluate what I thought I knew of the characters and the story. Highly recommend - especially to those looking for a book that will be addicting from the beginning.
Definitely twisty.! The author kept me on my toes and there were quite a few twists I didn't see coming. There was also some edge of your seat horror. Not a ton, but what else should you expect from a remote Scottish island setting? I enjoyed the book and I liked the surprises.
This was the creepiest thriller I’ve ever read! Imagine going on your honeymoon on an island and being stalked by someone. I thought I knew who the stalker was, but I was wrong! There is a MAJOR twist at the end that I never saw coming. This book was crazy good and different than other thrillers I’ve been reading this year. Thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend!!
Thank you NetGalley and Harper360 for this ARC!
“I’d take my time with them…let the rage simmer before I brought it to a boil…”
Newlyweds, Liam and Laura, opt to take their honeymoon on a remote island off the coast of Scotland. But what starts out as a romantic getaway begins to turn into something sinister…the feeling of being watched…bloody messages left on doors…tapping at the window. With each day comes a new terrifying threat from the mysterious stalker on the island, and the newlyweds begin to fear this island could very well become their tomb…
If the movies "The Strangers" and "Sleeping with the Enemy" had a baby, it would be "The Stalker"! WOWZA! The author had my heart racing from day one and just kept ramping up the pace of this psychological thriller! Loved this twisty page turner and highly recommend!
