Recommended to readers who would love story about fictional serial killers and the people in their lives.
Sipping thoughts: If your husband ended up being a serial killer would you stay with him? Would you forgive him or would you put him out? The Serial Killer’s Wife is the journey of Beth, a woman who had it all but found out her husband might be a serial killer. I saw most of the ending coming but I enjoyed reading it and watching it unfold. The very ending was a little ominous and I loved it!
Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley, @Harper360 and @AvonBooksUK for an advanced copy of @TheSerialKillersWife

Alice Hunter has written a gripping, double-edged thriller.
Tom and Beth Hardcastle have a wonderful marriage, a three year old daughter Poppy and a life that others envy. When Tom is late arriving home from work one evening, Beth’s world is turned upside down by a knock on the door and two inspectors wanting to speak with Tom about the disappearance of a woman (Katie) that he dated eight years ago. Beth’s mind is reeling. What could Tom know about Katie’s disappearance? She is shocked, confused and can’t imagine Tom as being anything other than innocent.
This psychological thriller told in chapters titled Tom, Beth, Katie etc., unfolds with twists, turns and edge of your seat surprises that I did not see coming.
I highly recommend this amazing read and look forward to Alice Hunter’s next novel.
Thank you NetGalley, Avon Publishing and Amanda Hunter for an ARC in exchange for an honest book review.
A creepy, twisty thrill ride that is a must read! It is something right out of Criminal Minds, and makes the reader wonder who comes up with this stuff! It is well written with multiple layers and a twist - that I did figure out! The premise is simple, just look at the title and you can surmise what you are in for…. Thanks to NetGalley for the fun read!
While this was an enjoyable reading experience, that pleasure was mitigated by the utter lack of relatability to any character. Specifically, the main character is...she makes choices that make her much less interesting, to my mind.
Beth's picture-perfect life is turned upside down when her husband Tom is late returning home from work one night and the police arrive to question him about a years-old murder.
The plot quickly escalates as we learn more about who Tom really is and what he has done.
I was hoping for fast-paced and unpredictable thriller and unfortunately this missed the mark. The book is told primarily through Beth's POV, and I could not connect to her or the progression of the investigation at all. Her + Tom's past and family life was mentioned several times, but never in a way that added meaningfully to the plot. A handful of chapters are told from a different character's point of view, giving the book a choppy feel instead of a cohesive narrative.
Overall, a good debut effort from Alice Hunter. I would read more work from her in the future, just had a tough time really connecting to the characters in this one.
I just finished reading The Serial Killer’s Wife and all I can say is “wow!” I love an intense psychological thriller and that’s exactly what this book is! It’s full of exciting characters, surprising plot twists, and an ending that was better than I could have imagined. I will be telling everyone about this book!!
This was a really interesting book with some great twists! Once I started reading, I had a hard time putting it down. The story build-up was great and gradual and the switching between narrators was very clear and added a great aspect to the story.
So tense so chilling I could not put this book down.I read this book late into the night the twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat. The author is one I will be following recommending her and the book.#netgalley #harper360
The premise of this one intrigued me, but it felt like the plot dragged on and on as Beth waited to find out what was going to happen to her husband. Her little girl is absolutely adorable, but I couldn't work up much interest in any of the other characters.
This is definitely an author to watch! Beth, her husband Tom and their daughter Poppy are new to the area. Beth owns a cafe and is starting to make friends. One night Tom is late coming home when the police arrive at their home wanting to question him in relation to a missing woman. What happens next sends Beth and Tom into a living nightmare. This was a really good, twisty story that kept my interest throughout.
My main problem with this book was the timeline. For me, it was kind of confusing. I would have preferred if it was all one straight timeline and it goes back with different povs not same POV forward then back then forwards. It was very confusing to me. Not my favorite book this year.
This book really kept you in suspense the whole time. I was curious to know what all Tom had been up to. The shocker was how much Beth knew about all of Tom's misgivings. She seemed innocent and supportive enough. Once Adam comes into the picture, things changed. You begin to see this slight change in her attitude that then appeared to me that she was hiding something. She was also playing on Adam's sympathy, grief and his friendship. The ending is what got me. To realize what all Beth had planned down to a "t"! It shook me and I did not see that coming, she my friends, is not so innocent at all!! Oh, and Julia coming to Tom is the icing on the cake. It leaves you wanting for more.

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
A fast paced story with a shocking ending!!
Beth and Tom appear happy with a young daughter. But what you see outside isn't always what it appears.... and when the police knock on their door saying Tom has murdered a woman - the town begins to talk - how did Beth not know?
As the evidence mounts against her husband she seeks support from her neighbor whose wife died recently.
Did Tom murder this woman? If he's released is his wife safe?
Such a great book! I read this over a weekend and could not put it down. Loved the story line (though I had figured out 'what happened' by the end. I thought the writing style (being told by three voices) in the then/now might have been confusing but it was so well written, it was easy to follow and get lost in. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy. I look forward to reading more by Alice Hunter!
How much does one really know someone else? The one you’re married to and have been made privy to his secrets? This was a good page turner.. The author deftly guides readers to believe one thing and then completely pulls the rug out from underneath you. Tom is accused of murder. How does Beth react? As the story unloaded, I had to read faster and faster to find out. Only to have been completely tricked by the author. Good play, I fell for it. Read this book and find out what I’m referring to.
Wow! Crazy storyline! At first I wasn't to sure about this book but in the end it was definitely a decent read! This book had suspense, intrigue, and so many twists and turns it was crazy!! Lol but good crazy! The storyline was very interesting a little out there but I really liked the different ending that was thrown in there ! I liked that a lot! Lol I definitely recommend reading this book! Its well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
This is the author’s debut novel, and while she shows a lot of promise as an author, this book just wasn’t it for me. I wasn’t a fan of the characters or the writing style, and the plot limped along way too slowly for a thriller. The idea of getting a story from the point of view of the wife of a serial killer was beyond interesting to me, but unfortunately, the execution ultimately fell flat. However, I will say that even despite my criticisms, this book kept me engaged enough that I never really considered DNF’ing it…and I am a notorious DNF’er.
"The Serial Killer's Wife" is a first time read by Alice Hunter, new to me author. So I do enjoy thrillers but this one is so very well written for a debut novel.
The story centers around Tom, Beth and Poppy, their young daughter. Beth believes that she and Tom have a somewhat better than the normal marriage, however when two detectives show up at her door seeking her husband, doubts run through her mind when Tom chooses not to disclose what the detectives are seeking.
All Beth understands is that has been a murder and the person is Tom's ex-girlfriend.
Beth fears kick in when the police ask Tom to come down to the station again for questioning. Although Tom plays around telling the truth, the bottom line is even worse than she thinks. Later, Tom has been arrested as a person of interest in the murder of his ex-girlfriend who supposedly has been traveling for years but is actually dead. Questions start to cloud Beth's mind and she can't quite wrap her hands around that fact that her loving husband is capable of murder...has she been this naive and not wanting to see all the hints that point to her husband? Now she is fearing for herself and her young daughter.
This story toggles between the present and 8 years in the past. The chapters rotate from Beth and Tom but voices Katie the ex-girlfriend and a few unknowns. The tale slowly unravels through twists, turns and unexpected mystery. I was not quite ready for the conclusion that had me in total shock. This was such a well-written plot and fast paced story that had me glued from beginning to end. What a wonderful start for a debut novel by this author. Highly recommended read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper360 for this ARC for my fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.
This book was insanely twisty and such a great thriller! Twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. OMG this was an amazing thriller! I am definitely getting this at publishing. I can see this as one of the top thrillers of 2021. I will definitely be reading more from this author if it is as good as this!
Highly recommended.

Beth and Tom seem to have it all ... a solid marriage, a young daughter, a beautiful home.
But maybe their marriage isn't as perfect as it seems. Beth fears the worst when police show up at her door .. her husband hasn't come home from work ... has something happened to him?
It was even worse than she thought. Tom has been arrested and accused of murdering an old girlfriend .. before he met and married Beth. Katie has supposedly been traveling for years, and it's just come to the light that she actually has been missing .. assumed dead.
Beth doesn't quite believe her husband capable of murder, but there are hints along the way that maybe ... just maybe ... she has known more than she's saying. Is it a case .. she's known and ignored it... she's kept quite fearing for her own life and that of her daughter.
The story is told from two timelines... now and 8 years ago. Voices that speak are Beth, Tom, Katie, and one unknown person. Lies and secrets are slowly are slowly revealed ... leading to a shocking and unexpected conclusion.
This is the author's debut novel and she's done a bang-up job is keeping it suspenseful from start to finish. She, herself, has a psychology degree, so I would expect at least a modicum of credibility ... I was not disappointed.
Many thanks to the author / Avon Books UK / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
