Honestly just so glad there are enough LGBTQ+ books being put out by Penguin Teen this year to *have* a Pride Sampler! This is a great collection!
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Teen for providing me with this gorgeous Sampler, even if it does increase my TBR pile....
All of my thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Teen for putting out samplers for some of my most anticipated releases! Many of the books that were included here are books that I've been looking forward to reading more about, so I was very happy to find that this sampler was available. Happy Pride Month!
A Penguin YA sampler featuring novels perfect for pride month. Excerpts from each of these novels are available: Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo, The Passing Playbook by Isaac Fitzsimons, Some Girls Do by Jennifer Dugan, The Girls I've Been by Tess Sharpe, Noelle: The Mean Girl by Ashley Woodfolk, Aetherbound by E.K. Johnston, Tell Me My Name by Amy Reed, Seafire by Natalie C. Parker, Watch Over Me by Nina LaCour, and How It All Blew Up by Arvin Ahmadi. Several of these novels have made it on my TBR. The mix of genres is wonderful. The diversity present is outstanding. Highly recommended! Will be reading the full novels for recommending at the library.
Penguin Teen Pride Month 2021 Sampler, 5 stars
I loved this sampler! It had a mix of LGBTQIA+ identities, including trans characters, which was so nice to see. I think it also did a great job of selecting releases with good amounts of diversity. Furthermore, the snippets were all super interesting and entertaining, which made it a super fun read! My only complaint was that the titles didn't have a synopsis with them, so I went into a lot of these first chapters completely blind.
This sampler was absolutely amazing for finding some new books to read! I’m particularly excited to pick up “Last Night at the Telegraph Club,” “Watch Over Me,” and “The Girls I’ve Been!”
These were a couple of great samples! I've already read Seafire and loved it. Some Girls Do really grabbed my attention, might have to buy and read that book ASAP 😉
This sampler was really helpful for discovering some new books, some of them were on my radar already lr ones I'd even read already, but others I hadn't heard much about and am now interested in
I have already read Some girls do, the girls I've been, and last night at the telegraph club (which were all amazing books) but I wanted to find out more about the other books here.
I will now definitely be reading The passing playbook, Noelle the mean girl, and Watch over me!
Really loved the Teen Pride Month 2021 Sampler. It was perfectly timed--not just for Pride Month, but for me to share with my creative writing students at various summer camps. I especially appreciate the range of genres and authors! And I just have to add that seeing Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo featured was extra special. It's one of my very top 2021 books. Thanks for putting this together.
I enjoyed this sampler, and I'm excited to check out a few of these books. There was a good range of books in here, from contemporary to sci-fi, and I'm particularly excited for AETHERBOUND, which really gripped me! I was also surprised by THE PASSING PLAYBOOK, which I wasn't planning on picking up, but I actually really enjoyed the sample and I'd love to read more.
I enjoyed reading this chapter sampler of Penguin Teen LGBTQ+ titles! Personally, I’m very excited to read Noelle: The Mean Girl, Aetherbound, and Seafire. I had not heard about How It All Blew Up and Watch Over Me, but I was intrigued! I had previously read Last Night at the Telegraph Club and The Girls I’ve Been, both of which I really enjoyed. I will definitely be adding some new titles to my TBR and look forward to seeing more LGBTQ+ reads from Penguin Teen. Thank you so much to Penguin Teen and Netgalley for the opportunity to read the Penguin Teen Pride Month sampler!
LAST NIGHT AT THE TELEGRAPH CLUB: I enjoyed it already! This book was already on my TBR but this sampler has honestly just moved it up.
THE PASSING PLAYBOOK: I'm not a big sports fan so I wouldn't really have any desire to continue with this one. I enjoyed what I read, I just don't think it's for me.
SOME GIRLS DO: I loved this sampler! I had heard of this book before but didn't really know much about it but now I'm super interested in reading the whole thing.
THE GIRLS I'VE BEEN: I immediately put this on hold from my library. I love it already.
NOELLE: Eh. I just didn't love the writing style and I wouldn't like hopping into the middle of a series so I really have no interest in continuing with this one.
AETHERBOUND: I enjoyed what I read but I don't really like space books so I don't think I would continue with this.
TELL ME MY NAME: I had never heard of this but I'm definitely interested now!
STORMBREAK: Kind of weird jumping into the third book of a series...and I don't like pirates so I don't think I'm interested.
WATCH OVER ME: I quite enjoy Nina LaCour so of course I'm interested in this!
HOW IT ALL BLEW UP: I'd never heard of this before but it seems like it has the potential to make me cry so I would really like to check it out!
good way to taste test some books and found some I now am going to buy! Glad I got to read these to discover some new books
This was so helpful! It warms my heart to see all these queer YA books, and I’m looking forward to reading Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo and Watch Over Me by Nina LaCour!
Thank you for a copy of this sampler, a fantastic selection of books that I've added to my list, some real great ones in this.
Happy Pride Month xx
I received this book for free for an honest review from netgalley

This is the first time I've gotten the sampler from you guys and I'm so glad that I decided to get it. I found a 10 of us to put on my TBR list.
I appreciated this look into so many of the books I've been anticipating for this summer! While I've already read (and adored) Last Night at the Telegraph Club as the pick I chose for my book club, I've had Some Girls Do, The Girls I've Been, and Watch Over Me sitting in my maybe-buy cart for a little while and it made me feel better to be able to get a good taste of the writing style and the exposition (without having to sit down at the bookstore for a half hour, ha). I also hadn't heard of Aetherbound or Seafire yet, but I'll be putting them on my radar and may add them to my TBR :) Thank you to Penguin Teen for these previews, and happy pride month y'all!
