Renee attends the academy to become a servant to the crown. She does this against her fathers wishes. It means everything to her to succeed.

Her place at the Academy is precarious. She must compete with the boys and succeed, do better even. A new instructor comes. His feats are legendary. She begins to work with him and his training is brutal.

She is faced with a dilemma. The crown regulates mages and those not registered can be executed. Circumstances cause her to question is the crowns actions are correct.

The book details her journey. Her values and priorities are challenged. I enjoyed reading about her growth and how she learns that life is not always black and white.

I am hoping that this is the first book about Renee. I would love to see what may be in store for her!
