This is a beautiful book about obesity, Sean's struggles and overcoming trauma, judgment, and so much more. He goes very deep and gets personal and vulnerable, being an advocate for others who struggle in their weight. He also speaks of his faith and journey. This is a fantastic book.
When Sean’s wife was in hospital giving birth to their 3rd daughter, he had a moment of stark realisation – his weight (over 600lb) might not allow him he chance to see his daughters grow up.
Sean knew that he needed to make changes, but where does a morbidly obese, close-to-housebound person start? Over 30 fitness trainers & gyms were not willing to help … but Sean made one more call. Brandon Glore answered & that phone call changed both their lives, and would go on to change the lives of many others in Sean’s position.
This book is Sean’s story – a brutally honest book that touches on difficult topics including addiction, emotional trauma & sexual abuse as well as a significant dollop of faith. There is a huge Christian bias to the book, which may not suit all readers, but Sean believes that God brought him & Brandon together.
Throughout the book, Sean’s warm personality comes through. He doesn’t blame anyone for the fact that he is obese, but what is particularly powerful about Sean’s story is that it addresses the fact that most morbidly obese people simply can’t “eat less, move more”. When Sean was doing daily exercise & eating very healthily (he’d cut out sugar years before) he was still not losing weight and it was soon apparent that there must be an underlying issue. With help from an understanding doctor, tests soon proved that he had a variety of other issues, including hormonal imbalances. Sean and Brandon believe that a greater understanding is needed of how obesity affects the body & why somebody might need a different approach to losing weight and their work now not only aims to help individuals but to raise awareness of such issues and also reform the fitness industry and impact how healthcare providers treat the morbidly obese.
Thank you Sean for sharing your story & for continuing to “do good” in the world. I wish you continued success on your journey to better health & hope that you manage to evict Herbie from your life for good!

Sean Mulroney's journey to a new life is told in brutally honest and deeply moving stories of a traumatic and troubled early life that is the backstory to his 647 pound body.
His journey is not over - his body will not allow him to be the best he can be, but this journey is both motivating and inspiring.
