Private investigators Kate and Tristan have been tasked with finding a missing journalist, Joanna Duncan. It has been 12 years since she disappeared, and there has been no trace of her. Her mother refuses to give up hope, and believes that Kate and Tristan can succeed where the police have failed. Little do they realize that this woman's disappearance will become part of a much larger investigation. They discover that Joanna was investigating young men who themselves had vanished. But how she came upon these cases or why she was interested remains a mystery. Kate and Tristan are sure that these missing men are the key to finding the truth about Joanna. Can they do so without tipping off the wrong person? Because someone out there will stop at nothing to ensure that no one uncovers their darkest secret.

There is quite a lot for the detectives to untangle in this web of lies. Everyone they talk to brings new suspicion upon someone else. Besides Kate's and Tristan's points of view, we also see from the perspective of the killer and learn the motivation behind committing these crimes. Pay close attention and you might see a big twist coming, but it won't prevent you from enjoying the action along the way. Kate and Tristan struggle with day to day issues like we all do, they are regular people trying to solve some pretty crazy mysteries and there's no doubt they will continue to succeed!

Robert Bryndza is one of my favourite authors and consistently entertains whether writing crime or comedy. I am a big fan of both but love the Erika Foster and Kate Marshall series. He has not let me down yet with his writing and this is again of an high standard.

Kate Marshall owns a PI agency with her partner Tristan Harper and about to undertake their first major case. They are asked to look into the disappearance of journalist Joanna Duncan who went missing twelve years ago after exposing a political scandal. While the police appear to have given up on the case Joanna’s mother refuses to stay quiet. Kate along with Tristan go through the original case files, looking at the suspects and leads but discover the names of two young men who also vanished without a trace. Further investigations show that Joanna may have been onto something far more sinister than anyone first believed.

Well written, great characters and a terrific read.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Once again Robert Bryndza does not disappoint. A very well thought out story that really entertains. Kate and Tristan are ought to find a missing woman, one whose mother will not let go until justice is done, what happened to her daughter, there could be no worse thing to live with as a parent. This story becomes much more than they bargained for. The story is very emotional and the lives of the young boys broke my heart in parts. I never guessed who did it and the final twist was definitely brilliant. As always this is another five star read for me from this author. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for allowing me to read this wonderful story. Loved it!

My thanks to Thomas & Mercer, Robert Bryndza and Netgalley.
I've become quite fond of Kate and Tristan. I've read another series from this author, but didn't connect like I have with these 2 characters.
This book broke my heart! I'd often find myself staring off into space as I recalled some friends I've had that also had remarkably similar lives. Also, many girls/women who are desperately searching for meaning.
I would love for Tristan to find someone good. He's so intelligent, yet so innocent.
Kate? Her too! But, maybe someone who has connections. A cop? Sure! But, not a big swinging dick!
I love this series!

The third Kate Marshall book, whereby her and Tristan are investigate the historical case of a missing journalist.

With many twists and turns throughout, this is an enjoyable read. Kate utilises her skills from her former career as a police detective, showing that has not lost her touch or instinct.

This book can be enjoyed as a stand-alone, but treat yourself and read the others in the series (as well as Bryndza’s Erika Foster books).

Wow wow wow, what a fantastic book.

What a pair Kate and Tristan make with their detective agency

I loved this book, the third installment of the Kate Marshall series.
This time they are tasked with finding Joanna, a journalist who went missing twelve years ago. After a few twists and turns they find the truth and solve a few other crimes as well.

I would highly reccomend this series

Not my favorite in the series but definitely worth reading. Go back and read his earlier books if you want a real treat. Can’t lie - This one dragged a bit. 3.5 rounded up

What an atmospheric read full of twist, turns, and heart-pumping thrills. I felt this was a story best read at night, with the lights low, the candles on... it set the mood for this thriller. I fell in love with this mystery and the main character. Thank you for the e-arc!

Robert Bryndza's done it again! The Kate Marshall series just keeps getting better. In this book we see Kate's everyday struggle to keep her sobriety and Tristan's fears of his own future, his doubts about his decisions in light of society's expectation. These are the personal issues our main characters will be dealing with while trying to solve a cold case - the disappearance of a journalist from twelve years ago. This has been a surprising and enjoyable read with biting, bittersweet undertones.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Thomas and Mercer for this free digital ARC. This review is made of my own accord with no monetary compensation whatsoever from the names mentioned above and/or the owners of this ARC.

So I was at a teeny bit of a disadvantage not having read the prior books in this series. Only a teeny bit, though – I was mostly a bit lost when it came to relationships. Like why did Tristan’s sister seem to hate Kate? How exactly did Kate and Tristan’s relationship start? It was just the little things.

However, I didn’t have any trouble when it came to our plot! Oh, these poor young men. I really wanted justice for them and was rivited as Kate and Tristan tried to find out exactly what was happening.

Now, I did figure out our big reveal ages before we were told, but I still enjoyed the story and was just anxiously waiting to see if I was right.

I’ll happily read more in this series and am interested in reading the prior books to find out what I’ve missed!

Thank you Netgalley and Thomas and Mercer for the eARC.
This is the 3rd in the Kate Marshall and Tristan Harper private investigators series and my favorite so far. I really enjoyed it.
This time the case is a cold and big one. They need it, because money is tight and Kate has to run her caravan park as well. Thank goodness her son Jake is home for the summer and can help out. Tristan is still working part time at the university too, but that doesn't pay for his mortgage!
A journalist, Joanna Duncan, disappeared 12 years ago and the police have come up with nothing, so her mother has hired Kate and Tristan to try to find out what happened. They follow the same trails, but manage to find a few different answers, which lead to a seedy underworld of rent boys and men in power. The ending is so good and shocking, I loved it!
I also love the relationship between Kate, Tris and Jake and can't wait for no. 4 in the series

Newly fledged PI Kate Marshall and her partner Tristan have just landed their first case. They’ve been hire by the mother of Joanna Duncan, who disappeared 12 years earlier after exposing some nasty political secrets. She wants to know what happened to her daughter. When viewing the original police reports, Kate discovers that two young men also disappeared at about the same time. Has a serial killer been hiding under the noses of the local police for over a decade? Bryndza should be a household name, his mysteries are so good.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I have been a huge fan of Robert Bryndza's since I read the first book in his other series about detective Erika Foster. I gobbled up the entire series and couldn't put it down. I feel the same about this series, about Kate Marshall. This is the third book in the new series and it doesn't disappoint. Kate and Tristan are asked to find a woman who went missing more than a decade ago by her mother, she wants to know if she is alive out there, or did she get murdered. The missing woman was a reporter for a local newspaper and was interested in stories regarding politics and sexual scandals that follow them. When Kate stumbles across missing person reports of missing gay men, she finds the cases intertwine and the story ends in a shocking climax. Robert always keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Can't wait for the next one.

A gripping thriller that I could not put down until I had finished the book. The story starts with the murder of Joanna, and it got me engaged straight away. I will not reveal any more of the plot for fear of spoiling it, but the book is up to the author's usual high standard and I recommend it highly.
