As a huge fan of the Detective Erika Foster, I was very excited to read Robert Brynda's newest series, A Kate Marshall Thriller. Darkness Falls is the third installment in the series and like its predecessors, it is engaging, compelling, and a page-turner. Kate and Tristan are a great team and I look forward to there next adventure!
Thank you #NetGalley, #RobertBryndza & #ThomasandMercer for this eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was another great thriller by Robert Bryndza. Kate and Tristan are tasked with finding out what happened to journalist Joanna many years ago, hired by her mother and her partner. Along the way they uncover a series of disappearances that are too similar to not be linked. Will they figure out what happened to Joanna and the other men who disappeared?
I was hooked right from the beginning which is right on par for me when I read a Kate Marshall or Erika Foster thriller. Keep these books coming!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Darkness Falls is a good, no great book in the Kate Marshall series! It was suspenseful and twisted that had me biting my nails and unable to stop turning the pages. I LOVE Kate and her assistant Tristan. They are an unusual team and its sort of heartwarming to read the lines between them. This book showcased some more light on Tristan and I loved reading about him! I wont lie it got a bit apparent on who the killer was towards the end and that's usually a bummer for me but I kept on because I still didn't know why. I'm glad I did! I pick up Robert Bryndza's books because I am such a HUGE fan of Erika Foster but Kate Marshall is equally intriguing in a different way.
Thank you, NetGalley, Robert Bryndza & Thomas and Mercer for this arc!
This is the third in the Kate Marshall Series and I will be going back to read the other two books! I am a fan of Robert Bryndza's Erica Foster series so when I saw the advanced reader copy I put my name in and was picked. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy.
This book is about Kate Marshall and Tristan Harper setting up a detective agency from the RV park that Kate has just inherited, their first case is a twelve year old cold case of a missing journalist, Joanna Duncan. She went missing while investigating a story.
The journey that Kate and Tristan take to figure out this case are filled with twists and turns and throws a few red herrings along the way.
It was a good story and I will be reading the other books once I get through my massive TBR pile.
Another amazing read from Bryndza! Never fails to impress the readers. After reading the first two in the series I was very intrigued to find out what else Bryndza could come up with and he did not disappoint.
An excellent read! This kept me turning the pages to uncover the truth. It was an easy story to fall into and become invested in.
In the third Kate Marshall book, our main character is trying to run a holiday park she inherited, while also keeping up with the stresses of running her private investigation business. The story starts off fast and draws the reader in. Kate and her partner Tristan are hired to look into a cold case. A twelve-year-old disappearance the police have all but given up solving. AS the book progresses we begin to think there might be a serial killer at large, which builds to a surprise ending you probably won't see coming.
Having said that, I felt the pacing was slow, and the story took a while to unfold. In general, I liked the book but found my mind wandering in places. Hopefully, the next Kate Marshall will pick up the pace. If you are a fan of Robert Bryndza, go for it. If not, I'd say start with some of his other books, especially the first two in this series, and take it from there.
I really enjoyed the third book in the Kate Marshall series. Kate has now resigned as lecturer at the local university to work full time as a private investigator, while her partner Tristan Harper still works part time at the university.
Things are not looking very rosy for the duo when they get asked to investigate a cold case; the disappearance of journalist Joanne Duncan 12 years earlier.
It was hard to put this book down while the case was being solved. Bryndza is a great storyteller who keeps you on the edge of your seat. I am already looking forward to the next book in this series, as well as the next Erika Forster novel!
My thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for an advance copy of this book.
Like all of Robert Bryndza’s books, this was hard to put down. I read it in one sitting, gripped by the many twists and turns of a perfectly plotted thriller. I’ve found Kate Marshall, the protagonist, to be an acquired taste but over three books she has certainly grown on me. It’s nice to see a character with human frailties that others authors might have considered too taboo to touch on but for me this just adds realism and dimension.
Kate and Tristan find themselves once again involved in the case full of mysteries and unexpected twists! I couldn't stop reading!
Another excellent book from my favourite writer of the moment, Robert Bryndza. I love the Erika Foster series the most, but the Kate Marshall is a close second.
Kate and Tristan strike again in a missing person cases that has been unsolved for twelve years. Whilst searching through the evidence for leads they discover more than anyone could imagine.
A great who done it thriller that keeps you guessing and an ending that make you think back over subtle clues that Robert Bryndza plants for you to be the detective yourself. I’m looking forward to the book four already.
Unfortunately i didn't love this! I picked the serial killer almost from the get go, so it really took any mystery away from me. I still really enjoyed Robert's way of writing, but just not as good as the previous books in the series.
Thank you to the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Another great book in the series! Kate Marshall has managed to start her own private detective agency with her partner, Tristan. Their first case is a cold case where the missing person’s mother is looking for answers to her daughter’s disappearance. 12 years earlier, Joanna left work and never returned home. Joanna was a journalist. Was she working on a story that put her in risk? Did someone make her disappear to bury the story along with her? As Kate and Tristan dig into Joanna’s disappearance they uncover clues that bring them to more missing people. Is there a pattern? Could Joanna’s disappearance be related to the other people who have gone missing over the years? This fast paced thriller has you guessing till the very end. I did not see the twist coming at all!
If you enjoy the first two books in this series, this one will not disappoint you. Kate and Tristan will take you on another journey to find answers. Will they like what they learn?
Darkness Falls was the first book by Robert Bryndza for me. I've heard so much about this author so I was very grateful to Netgalley for the opportunity to try Bryndza's books.
Even though Darkness Falls is the third book in the series centered on PI Kate Marshall, it reads quite well as a stand-alone novel.
Darkness Falls is the story of a missing daughter and grieving mother, of long-hidden secrets and long-brewing evil. What I found especially suspenseful here is the way mundane events and people interactions intercept evil deeds and horrific events. It's as if cleaning the caravan park, buying new runners, and having lunch with a long-time friend ground Kate and her business partner Tristan, make them more tangible, more 'real'. At the same time, this trope makes all the evil in this book even more so.
Kate and Tristan solve the crime, find the missing daughter and uncover a whole bunch of secrets that change the lives of many people. In the end, if all they return to the caravan park for a friendly BBQ... to fight evil another day.
I enjoyed this book by Robert Bryndzya. And yes, I will look out for his books in the future. I found the language, the pace, the plot, suspense, characters engaging and captivating. The book was easy to read. The plot was twisted enough to keep one interested till the very end.
I thoroughly enjoyed Darkness Falls, the third instalment in Robert Bryndza's Kate Marshall series. It's an engrossing and often dark mystery, with plenty of twists, turns and red herrings to keep the reader guessing.
After previous outings in a more informal capacity, former police detective Kate Marshall and her associate Tristan Harper have recently established a private investigations agency, co-located with the Devonshire caravan park Kate inherited from her friend Myra. Kate is approached by local woman Bev Ellis, whose journalist daughter Joanna Duncan went missing from an Exeter carpark thirteen years previously. Bev is adamant that her daughter met with foul play, rather than vanishing of her own accord, and is desperate to lay her to rest.
In the course of investigating the cold case, Kate and Tristan uncover the cases of two young men who went missing around the same time - could they be linked with Joanna somehow? Other leads include an unfaithful husband, a politician who lost his seat after Joanna published an article exposing fraud, and another explosive article she was in the process of writing at the time of her disappearance. In a parallel narrative thread, we see an older man who calls himself Tom, a ruthless killer, who has just picked up a younger man at a gay pub.
Darkness Falls is a complex mystery, with a wide cast of characters and a distinctive setting on the Devon coast. I enjoyed the "cold case" element of the plot and the skilful use of misdirection by Robert Bryndza to maintain suspense. A dramatic conclusion rounded out an engrossing read.
I'd recommend Darkness Falls to any reader who loves complex contemporary mystery-thrillers, with well-developed characters and great settings. While reading in series order would allow for a greater grasp of character backstories, my feeling is that Darkness Falls could also be thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone.
My thanks to the author Robert Bryndza, publisher Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this latest instalment in what is a great series.
Darkness Falls is the third book in the Kate Marshall series. In the book, Kate and Tristan work to find a woman who has been missing for over 12 years. In the meantime, they discover secrets about the people involved. I enjoyed the entry in the series. I have liked seeing the character development of Kate and Tristan as they develop their practice. However, I felt that the chapters in the mind of the killer were far too disturbing and could have been done without.
This was a good addition to the Kate Marshall series. The series gets better with each book as we find out more about the characters. The mystery was good and was fast paced with a surprising twist.
Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I’m a big Robert Bryndza fan. Everything he writes is just fantastic. His latest book, Darkness Falls, is no exception. I will admit, I did not read the first two books in this series, but I was able to follow along with the characters fine. I will be going back and reading the first two as soon as possible as Kate and Tristan are just wonderful together. The story itself was so so good. I would NEVER make it as a private investigator because there was no way I was finding out what was going on until it actually happened. The twist and turns throughout the book had me guessing every second. And the ending was just WOW!!! Didn’t see it coming and loved every second of it. Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I like the Kate and Tristan combination. They play well off each other with ideas and ways to proceed when they get a big case to solve. Joanna has been missing for years now and the police have no longer actively pursued the case. I like the way the case enlarges to be so much more. And that twist of an ending was a big surprise. The book was a good story.
