Perfect for the busy holiday weeks when we're looking for a romantic escape but don't have a lot of time, Holiday Ever After combines three previously published novellas by Jill Shalvis. Each of the stories is connected to a Shalvis series but is suitable for both fans and new readers alike, although I do believe reading the earlier books in the Heartbreaker Bay series before reading One Snowy Night and Holiday Wishes will add an extra layer of enjoyment to the novellas. Mistletoe in Paradise is probably the novella that stands best on its own. It's a second-chance romance set aboard a yacht in the Caribbean, a place I frequently fantasize about during the cold months of winter.
All three stories are filled with the banter, emotion, and happy endings that I look forward to whenever I pick up a Jill Shalvis story. My favorite character from the anthology is Carl, Max's "huge, eternally hungry, adorable Doberman" in One Snowy Night. I adored him. My favorite story is Holiday Wishes. I love a stranded by a storm trope and this one is especially fun. And last, but not least, my favorite location is - no surprise - the balmy, beautiful Caribbean where childhood friends Hannah and James realize that sometimes, life does give you second chances. I enthusiastically recommend readers give Holiday Ever After by Jill Shalvis a chance this holiday season.

This book is comprised of three second chance holiday novellas.
One Snowy Night - 5 stars
Rory Andrews has finally decided to go back home for the holidays after she has been gone for six years. Guess who her ride is? Max Stranton, her old high school crush. What Rory never knew was that Max had crushed on her also. A long car ride, a funny dog, and a big snowstorm end up having Max and Rory finally giving in to their feelings.
Mistletoe in Paradise - 4 stars
Hannah Banfield and James Webber have known each other their whole lives. Every year at Christmas their families go on her stepdad's boat for a week long trip. Everything was always perfect until James' brother Jason ends up getting cancer and dying. After avoiding each other for a few years, Hannah and James are brought together and have to face their fears together.
Holiday Wishes - 5 stars
Sean O'Riley has planned the entire bachelor/bachelorette weekend for his older brother Finn. All their lives Finn has always been there for him so he wants this weekend to be perfect. When the B&B they are staying at is run by Lotti Hartford, the girl he lost his virginity to, old feelings come rushing back. Now all Sean needs to do is convince Lotti that what they have is real.
I just loved these holiday second chance love stories. Each story included a sassy heroine and an alpha male ready to do whatever his woman wanted. Each couple had to overcome something from their past before they could move forward but once they did, they all got their wonderful happy ending.
Jill Shalvis always create a story that makes you feel at home, feel good in your heart and very satisfied when you’re finished reading. This collection of short stories it’s just that. Three chances at love, three short stories to get you in the mood for the holidays and a lot of what I love about Jill Shalvis.
One Snowy Night
Max and Rory have been friends since high school. Max has alway been front and center in Rory's book. Crushing on the man for years but never able to tell him. Max blames Rory for missing out on something he wanted. They both have “issues” with each other yet Max is Rory’s ride home for the holidays. When a snowstorm traps them together longer than planned, it’s kind of put up or shut up time. This force proximity story has these two hashing out their past and realizing I just maybe there’s something more in the future.
Holiday Wishes- Is it a second chance for Sean and Lotti? They were each other’s first and Sean broke Lotti's heart. Many years later do the fires still burn as they once did? As a snowstorm extends the stay at Sean‘s brother‘s bachelor party weekend at Lotti’s family’s B&B. Now it’s time to hash out the past and settle it or many just get it burning again!
Mistletoe in Paradise-
Christmas on a yacht in the Caribbean, yes please sign this girl up. Hannah and James shared a secret lover affair many years ago. The two have a long history with a little bit of tragedy and heartache added in. For the first time in years they are kind of forced together on the family boat. I really enjoyed how they were able to come together, talk out their issues and even found something more. This was my favorite of the three stories. A bit anxiety but a very good story.
Jill Shalvis will warm your heart for the holidays with Holiday Ever After.
Heartwarming Christmas stories by one of my favorite author. Love that there were 3 books in one. With all the busyness of this time of the year, it is nice to be able to pick up a book and read a whole story in a shorter amount of time.
This may seem like I’m taking a hard turn from pumpkins to Christmas trees, but I wanted to share that this charming anthology stocking stuffer is now on sale! 🎄 🎅🏾 💫
DESCRIPTION—
Three fan-favorite Jill Shalvis novellas together for the first time in this holiday anthology…
One Snowy Night
⭐️ ⭐️ 💫
It’s Christmas Eve and Rory Andrews is desperate to get home to her family. Problem is, her only ride to Lake Tahoe comes in the form of the annoyingly handsome Max Stranton, her long-time crush, and his big, goofy, lovable dog. A long road trip in a massive blizzard might be just what they need to face their past.
Holiday Wishes
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
When Sean O’Riley shows up for his older brother’s bachelor weekend, the last person he expected to see is Lotti Hartford, the woman he lost his virginity to a decade ago. As the weekend continues, Sean realizes he wants to leave his hook-up life behind, but can he convince Lotti to open her heart to him again?
Mistletoe in Paradise
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Years after their secret fling ended, Hannah isn’t eager to see James during their families’ annual joint holiday-themed yacht adventure. But when they’re the only people who show up, James and Hannah are stuck together on the high seas for days. As the former lovers try to make the best of the Christmas snafu, they soon realize the best things in life can’t be planned, and sometimes love is sweeter the second time around.
Thoughts: I am new to this author, but was definitely in the mood for something festive and romantic. Overall, this book hit the heartwarming spot. However, I definitely recommend reading this book backwards—from the last novella listed first. As you can see from my rating, I almost didn’t finish the first one, but I took a break and came back to it but started with the third novella listed and fell in love with this little gem (or should I say snowflake?) of a story. The characters were flawed, relatable but the chemistry was 🔥enough to warm you up on an icy cold day!
There’s definitely a few ladies in my world I’m gifting to, because books are my love language! 😆
THANK YOU @avonbooks @harpervoyagerus for gifted copy in exchange for honest review!
Will get you in the holiday spirit.
I always enjoy Jill Shalvis stories, so this was a treat to get 3 in one! Cute holiday novellas of crushes, second chances, and forced proximity.
Enjoyable reads.
I voluntarily requested and reviewed an advance reader copy.
This is 3 stories that have been released previously. I had read one of the 3 before the three were put in a set. I love this author she always gives her readers loveable character and a great story. I only wish these were much longer!
One Snowy Night
I loved getting to know Rory and Max. I hope we get more of these two characters because this short story was not enough. I need more. The story is good and I love the two of them, I just need more.
Holiday Wishes
I enjoyed this story. I love a second chance story and finally getting their happy ever after during the holidays makes it a little more special. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is I wanted more!
Mistletoe in Paradise
Another great holiday romance from this author! Hannah and James grew up together as their moms were best friends. They became best friends themselves and that became more with growing feelings. They pretty much knew everything about each other at one time.
Hannah is shocked to find James on her dads boat, when they become stuck, they have to deal with emotions that remain. Hannahs feelings are complicated. Will these two find the second chance this holiday or find themselves heartbroken?
Thank you Net-Galley, publisher and author for the early copy.
My overall thoughts on Holiday After is I loved all three of the short novellas!
Second chance romances with likeable characters is what you will find in One Snowy Night, Holiday Wishes and Mistletoe in Paradise.
Three heartwarming Christmas stories with wonderful characters.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for fun Christmas stories to read.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.
Three Christmas romance short stories in this one collection. While there are three different stories in this collection they each share the same romance theme where each couple has a past and is reconnecting in one way or another. While I would typically review each individually, since they share the same romance sub genre and I have similar feelings about them, I will review them as a whole.
Each were very short in length, so the romance had to go from reintroduction to in love pretty quickly and for me that rarely works and I rarely enjoy the quickness of a short story romance. Given that each couple had a past that was hinted at in each book, that helped a bit, but I still felt as though the author had to go from oh hello to I am in love you way too fast! I would much rather read a longer Christmas romance, so there can be some slow burn or some back and forth before the happily ever after.
Sometimes I just want a short and sweet romance with the promise of an HEA without long drawn drama. Novellas fill this need perfectly. All three of the stories in Holiday Ever After have a bit of a forced proximity element, two are second chance romances, and one is unrequited love. All tropes I really love in a romance! With the second chance romance or unrequited love, you know the couple already have a history so it’s plausible to fall in love in a short amount of time, which fits in perfectly with a novella. I had fun with all three! Here’s a short breakdown of each story
One Snowy Night: Rory needs a ride home for the holidays and Max, her high school crush who never noticed her, offers to take her. Max is attracted to Rory, but her actions cost him a scholarship. Things worked out for him, but still. However, when a massive storm strands them together they’re forced to talk about the past and clear things up. Spending time together brings the simmering attraction between them to the surface. Can one dark snowy night of passion turn into forever?
Holiday Wishes: Sean and Lotti lost their virginity together back in high school after years of close friendship led to more. Lotti hoped when she moved away they could keep their romance going, but Sean broke her heart instead. Ten years later they meet while Sean and his brother, Finn, arrive at Lotti’s family inn for Finn’s pre-wedding celebrations. Knowing they had a once in a lifetime love, Sean is determined to make the most of his second chance and woo Lotti back, and it seems he has mother nature working with him when a freak storm damages roads stranding the whole wedding party. I really loved this second chance romance! Lotti was hesitant, and I couldn’t blame her, but Sean was sincere and focused!
Mistletoe in Paradise: James and Hannah’s families spent every Christmas together island hoping in the Caribbean. They had a friendship that developed into more, but tragedy and circumstances tore them apart. After years apart they’re both finally going to do Christmas on the boat again. Better still, their parents miss the boat and must meet them at a later port giving these two time together to work it all out. Another sweet second chance romance with the perfect HEA.
Three fun holiday-themed romance novellas, spicy and sweet. A guaranteed quick fix for your HEA cravings!
Thank you Avon for my arc in exchange for an honest review.
I actually discovered Jill Shalvis a few years ago through her holiday novellas. I was excited to see that Mistletoe in Paradise was part of this book because it was my first Jill Shalvis book/novella and I really enjoyed it.
This book covers three sweet second chance holiday romances. We see characters trapped in the car on a snowy night, visiting (and later getting stuck) at a Napa Bed and Breakfast, and my favorite, conned into a cruise on a boat by their father with their old fling. These stories are sweet (and a little steamy) and perfect to get you into the holiday spirit.. Holiday Ever After was my first holiday book of the year and the perfect way to kick off the season of holiday books.
This is a anthology of Christmas novellas previously published by Jill Shalvis, and even though I had read each of these before, it was fun to see them again. Three stories by one of my favorite writers is never a hard thing to do. The first story is One Snowy Night and takes place in one of her later series in San Francisco. Carly is going home for Christmas after several years, and Max Stranton is giving her a ride. Although Carly has a crush on him, she is not really crazy about having him drive as it seems they will be driving in a snowstorm. A classic case of stranded in a snowstorm, this is a cute story. Holiday wishes takes place at a B&B at Christmas time, whee a bachelor/bachelorette weekend is happening. Sean is the best man, and his older brother is the groom. The B&B is run by Sean’s high school girlfriend and first love. This is just a weekend of fun and Lottie just needs to get through it, but Mother Nature has other plans, and due to a landslide on the road away from the B&B, no one is going anywhere. Thus the fun and second chance romance begins. The last story is Mistletoe in Paradise. Hannah has come to Miami where her stepdad has a boat and when she was young, Hannah spent Christmas on the boat with her family, and her mom’s best friends family. All grown now, her mother wants a divorce from Harry and Hannah is to deliver the papers. All Harry wants is a nice Christmas vacation which Hannah thinks will happen until James Webber shows up. He is part of the best friends family and another second chance romance is happening. All three stories are cute, fun, and very easy reading.
Holiday Ever After is an amazing collection of three previous holiday novellas written by Jill Shalvis. Included in this collection are the stories: One Snowy Night, Holiday Wishes, and Mistletoe in Paradise; each one taking part in one of the worlds Shalvis created. Each story has a common theme, that of being second chance romances. Each couple has a past together, but because of misunderstandings or it being the wrong time, went their separate ways. With it being holiday time, the magic of Christmas, and joy being in the air, it was the perfect time for these couples to have a second chance to work out what went wrong and finding love working out for them.
Ms. Shalvis wrote three amazing, emotional, and sweet holiday romances that should not to be missed. It was fun to catch up with some of the characters in those worlds. I totally enjoyed and highly recommend Holiday Ever After to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
All 3 of these stories are second chance romances and perfectly done! While two have our main characters stuck in a snow storm and coming to term with their feelings for each other, the 3rd has a more tropical setting on a boat. Amazing what the spirit of the holidays can do for a romance! As always Ms. Shalvis gives us some laughs along with our dose of romance and which I happen to enjoy greatly! I received an ARC from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I love reading novellas, because when written well, you get a full story in a fraction of the time. Leaving more time to read more books! Ms. Shalvis wrote this set of wonderful, satisfying stories with couples worth cheering for.
Max and Rory are a couple that I wish had a longer story. There’s so much history between them, having gone to school together, then seeing each other years later in San Francisco. While their snowy road trip was fun and eyeopening for them both, I would have devoured a full size book, because they were such great characters. Regardless, I still enjoyed their story.
Sean and Lotti were a great second chance couple, perfect for a novella story. It’s taken years for them to be in the same place, literally as well as maturity-wise. While emotionally cut off, Lotti is of course intrigued to see that sixteen year old boy again, all grown up. And Sean regrets how he hurt her in the past. Maybe a little Christmas miracle is in their future.
Hannah and James pick up right where they left off, even as many years and many hurt feelings have come and gone. They both try to fight the attraction and in Hannah case, hold on to those old grudges, but whether it’s their forced proximity or the magic of the Caribbean waters, fate has another ending in mind for them.
Holiday Ever After is a great addition to not only my holiday reading but my catalogue of favorite Jill Shalvis books!
I received a complimentary copy of this anthology from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This contains 3 short novellas. Because they are short they are not HEA (my preference) but rather HFN. I wished the stories were a little bit longer and/or finished better.
I did enjoy the dual POV formats that each were written in. Seeing why the characters reacted and spoke during some scenes is very helpful to me to better understand.
They were a pleasant way to spend a few hours. If you like cute novellas (especially if the setting is during Christmas time, they you will probably enjoy this these.
~~~ I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review ~~~
This is a wonderful collection of holiday novellas. I have not previously read anything by Jill Shalvis, so I wasn't familiar with either of the 2 series that these novellas belong to. Each story is a second-chance romance, but each is also unique. The characters and storylines in these novellas are well written and entertaining. Even though they're short stories, I felt connected to the characters and plot quickly. I think my favorite of this collection was Holiday Wishes. Overall, this is a great book to get you in the festive mood for the magic of Christmas. I recommend whole heartedly! And I look forward to ready more books by Jill Shalvis in the future.
This is three Romance short stories all in one book. I have to say I really enjoyed all three of these books. I did find one to move way to fast, but it is a short story. I love the Christmas parts in these stories. I love the characters in this book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Avon) or author (Jill Shalvis) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
I received an advance copy of Holiday Ever After, by Jill Shalvis.. Grab your hot cocoa and a blanket with this book. It has 3 short Christmas romance stories to warm your heart.
I'm a huge fan of Jill Shalvis and read anything she writes. I'm not normally a novella fan trust her to win me over. Each novella was a sweet read that will definitely get you into the holiday spirit.
