I love a story that makes you laugh out loud and this one is no exception ! A fun, entertaining and quick read for fans of The Bachelor or the like.
Abby was a funny and likeable character and I loved her support, encouragement and friendships with the other women.
When I read at the beginning that there are many characters in the book and there would be a glossary of them at the end, I must admit I was a bit worried but I didn't need to be! The different people were all distinctly drawn and stood out in their own right. This is a fun read which entertains and certainly will make you smile. I especially enjoyed all of Abby's personae.
Friendship is a major part of the story and it is interesting to see what some people will do to 'win' a reality show. My absolute favourite part was when Abby's Mum featured. She certainly provided some laugh out loud moments. Several of the contestants are proven to have a double life and are not all what they seem. As you see the characters being manipulated by the production team, it does make you question what you see in some of these programmes and I am sure I will watch them with a quizzical eye. This warm, witty writing which fizzes with fun.
In short: Warmth and humour in spades
Thanks to the publisher for a copy of the book
The Dating Game by Sandy Barker intrigued me - the plot was great, I enjoyed the characters. I felt that there was still some unanswered questions between Abby and Jack at the end but I would happily read a second book to find out what happens after the Stag!
The Dating Game takes all my favorite tropes and puts it into one book. I read this in one sitting and would laugh out loud.
This is a fun and entertaining read. Reminds me of Sophie Kinsella books! This book is like watching an episode of the Bachelor. This book is entertaining and grabs you right from the beginning. Super fun but nothing super outstanding.
The Dating Game was my first read by Sandy Barker so I had no idea what to really expect from the writing of this book. I was intrigued by the blurb but the story kind of fell flat for me even though it was a fresh plot and seemed something exciting, the romance was not solid enough for me to be convinced that this is a romance book. But, for the most part, I did enjoy this book because it felt more like a written script for a reality tv show which was interesting to see how it all played out.
this was a really fun, lighthearted read that went behind the scenes of a dating game. I thought the premise was entertaining since I am a reality tv lover. I also thought the characters were really entertaining and fun to read. overall I enjoyed this one!
This is the first book I've read by this author and was not wholly disappointed. The storyline really appealed to me as reality shows like this are my guilty pleasure. I loved the depth of Abby and how she was in a way battling with the various parts of herself, and how this experience was the (surprising) route to recognising her own worth and values.
I liked the twist between Abby and Anastasia however did find that the recaps by Anastasia slowed the read down. While understanding the purpose (a way to help the reader visualise the activities/dates as though we were watching too) they were often over detailed and therefore dragged for me.
Nonetheless, I was really hooked by all other elements and utterly enjoyed the relationships between the women: women power was a strong theme and in today's climate I am HERE for that.
I really enjoyed this light-hearted, feel good read. I’m not a big fan of reality tv but that wasn’t a problem. I instantly warmed to Abby and loved her alter-ego Anastasia too. A great holiday read.
A joyously light hearted read that will make you chuckle as you read, everyone needs to be a bit Abby. She is a wonderful leading lady who is funny, approachable and friendly, yet totally lacking in self belief at times during this book.
The whole concept of the story was genius and with us being a household who loves Married at First Sight I found it entertaining from the offset, and loved reading snippets out to my teenage daughter throughout who also found them as amusing as me.
This book is a must for moments of comedy genius with wonderful friendships being formed and a brilliant concept
This was a cute, quick read!! I loved the premise and the humour had me laughing out loud at times!!
Incredibly cute, quick and fun read. This was the first book I have read by Sandy Barker but it will not be my last.
I received this novel as an advanced reader copy from NetGalley and exchange for an honest review. This was a quick read., cute but nothing spectacular. I would recommend it for those who like the bachelor and are looking for a quick read.
This was okay but I certainly wouldn't market it as a romance. As someone who watches a lot of dating shows, I also found the "behind the scenes" components of this and their ties to the main character to be a bit off. I couldn't understand how the behind the scenes aspect (where the main character can't spoil the show's secrets) was really adding much of an edge to writing the blog posts.
What a fun book! The first thing that intrigued me was the cover, and once I dove in I was not disappointed. This was a cute and fun book, I loved it so much!
If you’re a fan of the Bachelor franchise, you are going to love this one. It feels like you’re in an episode and it’s just so fun. I loved the plot line of this book and it was totally addictive.
I wish there was more to the romance aspect of the book. The ending definitely left me wanting more and a little better of a wrap up but otherwise it was a fun read perfect for the beach or poolside.
This was a super cute, quick read. nothing spectacular but definitely enjoyable. I would pass this along to a friend and watch out for more from this author.
I was so excited to read this book because of the premise!! Such a cute romantic comedy. Lighthearted and heartwarming. I loved the storyline, the character development! Very well-written and looking forward to reading more from this author.
I loved this book! It was such a good comfort read and made me feel like I was in the show myself! I really enjoyed the writing style and the characters. This author did such a good job portraying all of these characters and made me fall in love with the story immediately!
The Dating Game is a gorgeous slow-burn romance with whip-smart humour threaded through every page.
This book isn't a simple romance though, it is also a book that testifies to the strength of female friendship even when these women are pitted against each other.
Sandy Baker writes with such wit and warmth that it’s impossible not to get totally invested in this story and I frequently laughed out loud as we followed Abby and the other Does from one hideous Stag date to another.
Wonderful, feelgood romcom escapism and highly recommended.
