A book with Preacher and MacCallister, who are paid to take a group of Purssains and U.S Calvary into hostile territory to find out what happened to a party of Purssain Nobals from many years before. There has been a sitting of a blond woman in a Blackfoot camp which has led to this party. The author takes you back to the original time and what had happened, which leads you up to the present of course Preacher does not trust the Purssain officer in charge which also makes for a good story. This is a very good book with good characters.

There is no such thing as a bad Johnstone western. Each series is built around main characters whose belief in the law and family is absolute, even if they've had to be reformed to get there. From Preacher, the original mountain man to the Jensen family to Perly Gates, to.....well, you get the point. Many times, characters from one series will show up in another as supporting hands. The communities are true to the era, clothing, guns, food and troubles are all what you'd find if you looked them up in the history books. No two stories are the same, each character or set of characters is unique and so are their stories. The writing is skillful, readers are pulled into the story and you will laugh and cry right along with the characters. I made the mistake of picking up a Johnstone western my uncle was reading. Ive been hooked ever since. Now I share them with my reading family and will continue as long as new Johnstones are released.

My first Western in a VERY long time and it won't be my last. Fast paced action, memorable characters, and a story I truly enjoyed. Under appreciated genre and I look forward to more.

Preacher and Jamie MacCallister is some of my favorite characters by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone. When All Hell Broke Loose is the latest adventure in this series with both of them. Out in shops September 28th. In this book they are asked to help figuring out what happened with a company of Prussians five years ago in Blackfoot territory and is someone still alive? Its a dark story of power struggles and treachery and a lot of fighting for survival. It is another great western from this creator of so many fantastic series. I must thank @kensingtonbooks @netgalley and @pinnaclepublishers for giving me this advance copy and @williamw.j.a.johnstone for writing it. #Netgalley #WhenAllHellBrokeLoose

I received this from Netgalley.com.

Third in series, Preacher and MacCallister are deep in hostile Indian territory to find what happened to a hunting party of Prussian nobles who disappeared five years ago.

As the title suggests, full of action and very heavy on fighting.

A Preacher and Jamie McAllister western, (by Johnstone and company), is really about a rescue mission for our frontier boys who are asked to join Prussian and American soldiers to see if there are Prussian survivors who disappeared years ago, rumored to be attacked and taken as slaves by the deadly and hostile Blackfoot tribe. Among the Prussians who were attacked is Royalty (one in line for the throne), countesses, and their servants. There is a 5 yr span between the attack and the rescue mission.

The unexplained disappearance of a hunting party of Prussian nobles who entered the American wilderness--and never returned. Now, years later, the Prussian government demands an explanation. In response, the U.S. Army hires Preacher and Jamie MacCallister to join their search party--along with a band of Prussian soldiers led by the sinister Baron Adalwolf von Kuhner.

The reader guesses right if you see lots of trouble coming on the horizon, and yes, according to the book’s title. “All Hell Breaks Loose” before, during, and after this mission. Full of action, heavy on fighting, it’s definitely every man and woman for themselves

4 Stars

My thanks to NetGalley and Publishet for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Of all William Johnstone's many Old West characters, the old mountain man Preacher is at the top of my list. He's an authentic back to nature live-off-the-land man who respects nature, believes he is always his own best defense, and lets no one get in the way of justice and righteousness. In this latest, When All Hell Broke Loose (Pinnacle 2021), a Preacher-MacCallister Western, Preacher teams up with his most reliable friend, Jamie MacCalisterer, and his four-legged companion, Dog, to find a party of 'furriners' (a group of Prussian nobility led by trackers on a trip through the American West) believed (hoped) to be captured and enslaved by local Indians. Though the three work best alone, they are joined by a mixed group of American Army soldiers and Prussian fighters who might not have the best interests of the lost party in mind. They follow sightings shared by mountain men who report seeing white captives among the Indian tribes. The fact that the reports are few and the group was lost five years ago doesn't dissuade Preacher or Jamie:

“If it was easy, it wouldn’t be worth it...”

Another excellent Preacher novel that reminds me why I love this series about as much as any western series I’ve ever read.

In “When All Hell Broke Loose” by J.A. Johnstone writing for the William Johnstone syndicate, has a sure-fire rip snorting Western that is sure to please any western fan. This particular story follows Preacher and Jamie MacCallister in another of their adventures together. With these two, who are legends of the American West, a reader is assured of a good story…and this one does not disappoint.

The story here begins with the disappearance of some Prussian nobles who are on an adventure trip to the Western United States. One of these nobles is in line to become the next king. This band is waylaid and attacked and most of their detachment of American and Prussian troops are killed in a sneak attack. What follows next is a clandestine trip through the wilds of the Sierras and an exchange with the Blackfeet, who do not love any white man.

Fast forward five years to another group from Prussia who have come to American seeking what happened to their countrymen and women. This is the group that the U.S. Army is determined to help for diplomatic reasons although any change of living survivors with the Blackfeet is hopeless.

Enter Preacher and Jamie and they sign on to be the scouts and guides for this knowing the country as well as the Blackfeet. Let us just say that some unexpected happenings, some treachery, a fight to the death and lots of adventure rolled together is the crux of the book.

A most satisfying novel that fills a western reader with joy in its reading.
