This was my first book by Naima Simone, but it certainly won't be my last! There's so much to like here -- the pacing, the tension, the vivid prose, the warmth, and especially the protagonists. I felt like cheering when Mycah chose love and the future at the end of the book. I look forward to reading Cain's and Kenan's stories as well as more from Naima Simone, and I'll absolutely be suggesting more of her books for the library's collection!
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
I FLEW through this steamy one night stand romance. Mycah and Achilles (cool names!) hook up one night when he is new to Boston and fresh from learning of his recent inheritance and new found family. His personal struggles and her family issues make an emotional but tense story for them to find love in unexpected jobs, lives and pregnancies. It was super fast paced. It was emotionally compelling and relatable while still being a wild billionaire story.
I'm not a contemporary romance reader and I rarely ever request them. But something about this story made me want to read it. Achilles and Mycah were both scared from the way people had used them in the past. They had a lot of baggage that needed to be shed before they could be together. Their reasons were valid and I liked how they were resolved. They both opened up so much by the end. I really loved Mycah's character, her reservations regarding their relationship as WOC in a corporate environment was 100% true.
Absolutely a joy to read!
Fun, romantic, and SEXY I highly recommend this one. Achilles, was the perfect leading man brooding, dark, and hurting after life's disappointments. While Mycah was smart, tough, and working thru her own issues with family, I always enjoy a leading lady with some fire. I honestly wished the book was longer as it felt as though everything wrapped up so quickly. Looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters. I couldn't put this book down.
I was already invested in this series from book one, but let me tell you…Mycah and Achilles just made this series even better! I just wanted to hug him, and well, gently shake her from time to time (plus, punch a few other people). I cannot wait for Kenan’s story next.
I get excited whenever I see the Harlequin logo, cause when I think of romance, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the feels and satisfies every romance junkies' heart. This is a perfect books to snuggle up with on any day.
Sometimes you7 read a book and think, "That was okay." This is where Naima Simone's Secrets of a One Night Stand fell for me. The story was okay. The characters were okay but not overwhelmingly developed. The romance was okay but not really there. Overall there wasn't anything to make it remarkable.
I loved this book! It was everything a Harlequin Desire ought to be, though I could have done with a little bit more angst. Both characters were compelling, their hang-ups were understandable, it had the right level of steam and the fact that Mycah had to do a little bit of groveling was interesting. I really enjoyed it and recommend it to every one who likes Harlequin Desire and just overall good romance.
