I was hoping this would be a bit more supernatural but it was a great reminder that all your actions have consequences!
Rainey's fight video went viral. Two of his classmates want to film a dark figure in the woods. Rumors are flying and a terrible secret is threatening to change someone's life forever. This book is amazing and full of suspense. The twists you won't see coming. This book is a bit dark but very interesting. My eyes were glued to the pages. I loved this book.
This book seems so fun and cool and the premise and cover are promising. However, I found myself not connecting to this book. The characters were forgettable and I found myself hesitating to pick it up. The galley I received was frankly a mess. It definitely needs some revision before publication.
I Dare You has a really awesome concept and it caught my attention from the very beginning. My only thing is that I do kind of feel like the story is too short. That's typically not a complaint from me but with this type of novel, I do kind of feel there needs to be more information, more details. and more growth for the main characters. The plot went too fast and in a way, it feels like the main character doesn't really regret what happened. Yes, he feels bad but I feel like he would still do it all over again. I think it would have been awesome to get more characters who think they saw the thing in the woods. We get a little of this but I wanted more. It would have been fun if it had gotten more in-depth and maybe given us slender man vibes. I say slender man vibes because that took a turn of its own and it seems like Jeff may have gotten inspiration from that.
Overall I did enjoy the story I just wish it had been longer!
Short and quick read that really highlights the effect of social media fame on teenagers. What started out as a social project takes a wrong turn and puts someone in danger. While I do think this story could have been expanded on quite a bit more I realize the author wrote it this way with the purpose of being a hi-lo book meant of struggling readers and is dyslexia friendly. I think this is a wonderful inventive book to get people reading. Very interesting and attention grabbing. I recommend really for any teen who is involved with social media.
3/5
This was a super quick, short story about three friends who want to make a viral video. They get the idea to make a video about a "monster" in the woods. It goes viral and when they get the idea to make a part two something goes wrong...
I really love the message that this story puts out and it would definitely be a good lesson for younger kids like middle schoolers. It reminds people to think about the consequences that their actions can cause. I do wish that we got to see more of the actual consequences that happened rather than all of the inner monologue we were getting from the main character but overall this was a pretty decent read and I would recommend it to younger audiences.
I am sorry to say, I did not like this book at all. Was not my cup of tea. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the arc of this book in return for my honest review. Receiving this book in this manner had no bearing on this review.
I Dare You by Jeff Ross is a social media joke gone wrong horror-esque story.
I liked the book enough to read the entire thing, but then again it was so short I kind of felt like I HAD to finish it. I didn't like the friendship aspect between the boys. I didn't really like the "Rainey"/Rainman nickname. There were just a lot of things that didn't mesh well with me. Overall, it was a good idea for a story but I feel like it could have been better written and portrayed without having a character with OCD carrying the story.
🔪 Unfortunately this book just didn’t work for me. I could really appreciate what the author was going with but it just felt too rushed. I really wanted more out of this.
🎥 I did quickly read this and I really enjoyed the writing style. The premise also sounded super promising, but unfortunately nothing really happened throughout this story.

Sixteen-year-old Rainey is surprised when a video he made of a schoolyard fight goes viral. Two schoolmates, Jordan and Rowan, convince him to make another one, this time about a mysterious figure in the woods. Soon rumors are circulating, so many different things it could be. The teens are thrilled with the attention their prank is getting and are setting up a follow-up video when things go horribly wrong. A local woman, convinced that the ghost is related to the nightmares she's been having for years, drives out to the area to investigate, and crashes due to the teens. No one else knows what really happened but will a guilty conscience force Rainey to admit to his part in the accident or will he keep quiet?
This is a great book for middle graders-high schoolers. Easy to read, sat down and finished it in 40 mins. I love that it has a great message, I think it’s important for not only children but adults to understand consequences. I also loved that Rainey has Tourette’s and shows us the hardships and the thoughts of a teen with this disability. Well written for 12+ ages and has great character development. I did love the ending and how Rainey was able to take a skill and use it for something good.
I was given an eARC by NetGalley and Orca Book Publisher for my honest review. Thank you for allowing the opportunity to read this.

This is a quick read that will likely be enjoyed by the target audience. I enjoyed the fact that it reinforces how actions have consequences. Some readers may feel that this book is similar to Slenderman. Thought this is a short story, there is still solid character development, particularly with Riley.
Thanks to the publisher for providing an eARC of I Dare You in exchange for an honest review.
While I get what I Dare You is trying to do to give off a "your actions have consequences", I don't see that message hitting in the context of the story and don't think the story has much to stand on without it. I get it's hi-lo which means it has less time to give certain plot points and themes, but I think if less time was spent describing the specifics of the prank to save more time for the character's inner conflict it would have worked better.
Creepy goodness, delicious shivers, and wonderful chill bumps is what you're getting with this novel. Not one to be missed.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this advanced copy!
This book is to be released 08/16/21
This book was a fast paced, dark YA novel about the price of being viral. I felt at times I couldn’t put this down, reading the entirety in two sittings. I love how we get to see into what Rainey is thinking during the things he does and how he later does his skills for good. It was a character development that I didn’t expect, but fully supported it. I will be picking up a copy upon release!
I've been given this advanced copy by the publisher via Netgalley in return for an honest review. Thank you publisher!
This was a super quick, short story about 3 friends who thought to make a video viral. It starts out with them making a prank video in front of a private school which ends up on the news. They get the idea to make a monster in the woods by their house and make a fake video discovering it to see if it goes viral, but there ends up being a twist they didn't see coming.
This was more of a short story, I read it really quickly. I loved the message it was putting out there, especially for kids in middle and high school age. I think it's important to think about what consequences your actions have that are unforseen, and even the most innocent of actions can cause harm to others. I think this went along the lines of how Slenderman ended up causing two girls to attempt to murder their friend, and whoever had made up Slenderman had had no idea that that would have been a consequence of their story. Definitely think it is worth reading for those age groups. As for me, I am passed that age and while I found the message could be helpful for kids these days, it was lost on me. I did like it for what it was. 3/5 stars.
Thank you NetGalley, publisher and author for this great ebook copy!
This was a very good, quick read. I devoured it. The story was great. 16 years old Rainey is shocked when a video he made of a school fight goes viral.
Two school kids Jordan & Rowan, talk him into making another one but this time about something in the woods. Soon people are talking about someone is out kidnapping kids.
Or could it be a ghost?
The.!it's are all pumped up about their video getting all that attention so.They decide to make a follow up video. But this time it goes all horribly wrong!
Later a lady is convinced that this ghost is the cause of her vivid creepy dreams, so.she drives out to the woods to investigate for herself. But when she sees Rowan dressed in a costume walking around.... It causes her to drive off the road.
The police come to question the kids and she they start Jordan & Rowan leave Rainey.
But no one else knows what truly happened.
So will Rainey confess his part in the accident? Or will he keep it to himself?
I really enjoyed the setting of this mystery.... It kept me intrigued and interested!
The clever mystery was do much fun and exciting to get into. It made me nervous, but it was a good kind of nervous.
I really enjoyed the twists and turns in the book.
Overall a awesome book and I very much enjoyed it!
Thank you
