Thanks to NetGalley and Rowman & Littlefield for the digital galley of this book.

This is a money guide for single women who rely only on their income to get by. Since women typically earn less than men and don’t have the benefit of a dual-income household, we tend to face different financial issues. Using stories of actual women, as well as data and experts’ insights, the book chronicles the financial issues of single women. It provides the tools needed to tackle their daily and longer-term needs and probes the issues specific to divorcees, widows, women who never married, and single mothers.

Though there were some new insights from different perspectives than a lot of other finance books I’ve read, overall there wasn’t a lot new here for me. I enjoyed the personal stories of single women and money, but I did skim a lot of the book. That said, I am a personal finance nerd, so for women just getting started and who want to learn about their finances, it’s a good choice.

This is a clear, comprehensive guide that would be worthwhile for all women to read--single or not--since, as illustrated by the book, becoming single can happen at any time, and not always by choice. This covers lots of the basics like budgeting, investing, insurance needs, social security strategies, and estate planning.

What I liked best were all the personal stories used to illustrate key points in the book. That made the advice seem more relatable and less intimidating. I also like that the book spoke to women of all ages and income levels, instead of just being geared toward the upper-middle class as they near retirement. Everyone can benefit from solid financial advice!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

Does focus on women who are divorced and widowed, with a bit of those who are single that isn't the result of the two mentioned. Some financial things to consider at any moment in their life.
