Ally Winter is back in this second book of the Furry Friends Mystery. It was a cute cozy with all the fixings. Ally finds a murder victim and then gets herself into the thick of things. Overall a fun and light hearted book that can be read as a stand alone.

Ally is one of those characters you will love or hate. She stumbles into trouble on an alarmingly frequent basis, taking her canine sidekick along for the ride. I love how the author brings pets and home life into the story - it can fool you into a sense of security even as it then takes you into the middle of a mystery. A good, light read.
I received an advanced reading copy of this book from NetGalley and Crooked Lane books in exchange for my honest review.
Wow I loved this great sequel to the Furry Friends mystery series. I enjoyed reading about how Ally and her Gramps go around town looking for clues to solve the next murder mystery, loved the chemistry between Ally & Nick, got the biggest kick out of the WIllow Bluff Widows and their antics to impress Gramps with their cooking, playing card games, etc. Of course I also enjoyed reading about the various pooches, kitties, etc. Kudos to Laura Scott. Highly recommend to all animal lovers and cozy mystery fans.
Tailing Trouble is the second installment in the A Furry Friends Mystery series featuring veterinarian Ally Winter and set in Willow Bluff, Wisconsin. Ally's vet business still isn't picking up so she's decided to take up more grooming and boarding and she finds herself taking care of Domino, a black standard poodle with zero obedience training.
Ally's grandfather, Oscar is still living at the Legacy house with the three widows. When Ally goes to pick him up to bring him to the library she runs into Pricilla Green, the twenty year old housekeeper with a bad attitude. Hours later when she's out taking Domino for a walk, he breaks away from Ally and runs into the woods, chasing the dog down she discovers the dead body of Pricilla lying under a tree.
Despite the objections of Detective Noah Jorgenson, Ally and Oscar team up to track down a killer. In addition to the recent murder there has also been a string of burglaries in Willow Bluff and Oscar is convinced the two mysteries are connected.
This series has so much potential, but unfortunately the writing is bogged down by the constant mention of Ally going to the Legacy House for meals, having to take the dogs for a walk, etc. and it can really wear on your nerves after a while. Plus, I can't imagine how she's staying in business when she barely seems to have one or two clients a week. The mysteries and plots are good, it's the rest that just needs a little fine tuning (and more furry friends). I'm not giving up yet!
I received an advanced copy of Tailing Trouble from NetGalley via Crooked Lane Books. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opnion.
Tailing Trouble, the second book in the Furry Friends Mystery series by Laura Scott, is a highly entertaining read with a complex mystery that had me guessing to the end. When veterinarian Ally Winter moved back home to Willow Bluff, Wisconsin to be closer to her granddad and to leave behind the mess her ex-fiance made stealing from their city practice, she knew she was going to have to work hard to start over but she didn’t expect that keeping an eye on her beloved grandfather was going to be even more work than trying to build her new business. His new fascination with solving murders is pretty frightening and frustrating, and keeping him out of the way of the local detective is almost a full-time job.
Boarding Domino, an undisciplined full-sized standard poodle, the kind often called giant, it a big help to the budget but it is a pretty big job. Once he becomes second-hand witness to a murder, things get down-right dangerous for the loveable but rambunctious darling.
One of the best parts of the books for this dog lover is watching Ally interacting with her beautiful boxer Roxy and the sweet but wild Dom. The mystery is interesting and watching her try to corral her granddad is hilarious but a book that portrays dogs well will always be a winner for me.
Thank you to NetGalley, author Laura Scott, and Crooked Lane Books for allowing me to read and review this delightful dog book/mystery, two of my favorite genres well blended for a great read. I look forward to the release of the first book, Dogged by Death with will be out next week, July 13, 2021. I also look forward to getting to know the characters more fully in further books in the series.
ally is a strugling verernarian who has moved back to town, Noah is the detictive in town , when she was taking a large dog for a walk he took off and found a body, ally had to call noah and by the time she got back her grandgfather had found out and wanted to know what happened, he is thinks he is a detictive and wants to help but noah does not like that. but ally just seems to trip into situations . the dogs are fun to read about if you like suspense and romance and animals you will want to read the story. very good well written i read it to the end in one day i was given a copy of the book by netgalley but this is an honest review
If I read one more sentence that said “I have to take the dogs out,” or “Ally, stay out of the investigation”, I was going to scream! I have enjoyed cozy murder mysteries but…..I found this book to be mediocre. I thought the writing was geared more to YA readers. I found the characters lackluster. It also needs more editing. Blaring errors. And…..the Detective Noah…..aside from his description of being handsome, he should find another career.. I think I am in the minority with my review. Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
I recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a good, easy to read book. The characters are likable and the plot is well laid out.
This book had potential to be amazing but fell a little short to me. The characters seemed a bit underdeveloped but I did enjoy that the main heroine was independent and caring about those around her. The plot of the book was in line with a classic cozy mystery, nothing too drastic but was an enjoyable read. The reveal at the end was built up nicely I would have just liked to see better dialogue and character personality throughout.
Give it a shot if you enjoy sleuthing grandpas that never quit and talk of animals!
I received a free copy of this novel from NetGalley but the opinions in this review are my own.
The main character and I have the same last name so of course this book grabbed my attention. What kept it was a well written fast paced mystery. On a walk, the dog runs off and brings back a high heel to Ally. Great characters! Really enjoyed this book! Thanks #netgalley and #Crookedlanebooks for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Tailing Trouble by Laura Scott may be the second book in her cozy series, Furry Friends, but it can easily be read as a "stand alone" book.
With descriptive writing that allows the reader to be with Ally and Gramps while they "investigate", a few suspects that all had motives and a few twists for Ally and Gramps, this smoothly paced story was an entertaining and easy cozy read. Gramps steals the spotlight each time he's on the page and Ally's love and patience with him is heartwarming.
Knee Deep In Murder…
The second in the Furry Friends Mystery series finds, Wisconsin vet, Ally Winter knee deep in murder and mystery. Enjoyable cosy mystery with a likeable protagonist in Ally and an entertaining plot populated with a colourful cast of supporting characters.
This is the second book in the Furry Friends Mystery series. In this book Ally is boarding an unruly poodle who on a walk leads her right to a body in the woods. As in the last book Ally's grandfather thinks that the police can not possibly solve the crime without his help. I really liked the first book in this series but this book was merely ok. Ally as a veterinarian at times comes off as somewhat incompetent and ridiculously clumsy. Gramps came off as really annoying and pushy instead of the lovable charmer he was in the last book. I could not help but feel sorry for Noah as they made his job harder than it had to be instead of helpful as the author tried to portray them. I can only hope future books get back to what the first book was, because it really could be a cute, fun series.

Author Laura Scott brings readers a bevy of cute animals to go ‘Awwww’ over in the second installment of her Furry Friends series. I consider this tale a light cozy mystery that’s fast and easy to read. I enjoy protagonist Ally Winter and appreciate her hard work (and sometimes yucky), taking care of people’s pets. Her Gramps is a handful, yet I really like him and his conspiracy theories about just about everything! LOL! He is spunky!
The murder mystery is a fairly light one. I enjoyed the handsome black standard male poodle pictured on the book cover—Domino, and the part he plays in the story. He and Roxy, Ally’s female boxer, have hearts in their eyes for each other. I still can’t warm up to Detective Noah Jergenson. The things he says and the way he treats Ally and Gramps just rubs me wrong way. I was surprised as the bits and pieces of this plot finally fit together and the murder puzzle was solved. Happy Reading!
I honestly reviewed an unedited, digital arc provided by NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books. All opinions are my own. Thank you.
Cute cozy with all the requisite blueprint details including a few deaths, animals, an elderly relative, and a love interest. Second in a series, this can be read as a stand alone. I had no problem picking up on the characters and the plot within this book.
Veternarian Ally Winter has moved back to Wisconsin and is struggling to keep her new veterinary practice afloat while keeping her grandfather out of trouble. Both of them get into trouble with detective Noah, Ally's love interest, when she proceeds to find a few bodies here and there.
While the animals add cuteness to the plot, sometimes it seems a little too unreal that Ally is the one constantly finding bodies. I could also have done less with Gramps and more animals. I hope Ally's vet practice picks up! I would recommend this to cozy readers and those that love dogs.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this digital ARC. All opinions are my own. This review can also be found on my Goodreads page.
Fun cozy, cute mystery. These are my go to on any given day. Laura Scott didn’t disappoint. When an author knows her audience it’s a bonus for this reader.
Kindle Copy from Net Galley and Crooked Lane Books.
I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
A veterinarian who is boarding a poodle for the weekend runs off by the lake only to bring back a polka dotted high heeled shoe spells trouble Retracing the poodle steps, she will not only find the other shoe but that of the owner who lays dead beneath the willow with a silk scarf tied around her neck.
The vet’s gramps takes an interest in the case as his interest in true crimes has him suspicious of a recent burglary that might be tied to the victim. The local detective warns him not to get involve but he does not listen.
She will try to solve the case and keep her gramps safe from harm. It is a delightful new read.

A feel good cozy perfect for what I needed. A great way to spend my weekend. The plot was very well written.
Ally Winter has settled into life back in Willow Bluff. Her veterinary practice is growing and life is good. When she takes one of the dogs she is boarding for a walk, the dog runs off and comes back with a woman’s shoe. Ally tracks the dog’s prints and finds a young woman wearing the other shoe, strangled beneath a tree.
Noah is on the case as the local detective, but Gramps can’t seem to leave it alone and begins digging around on his own. Even after Noah warms Gramps and Ally to leave it alone, they just can’t walk away. Now it’s a race to the finish and could be the end of the line for them if they don’t watch their step.
Any series with animals is likely to be a favorite of mine. This added to the solid mystery and likable characters will leave you wanting more like I do. What I wouldn’t give to have the opportunity to go home and spend time with my own Gramps once again. At least I can live through books, which have been a godsend during the pandemic and continue to bring me much needed respites from reality at times.
