Louise is hit by a car when cycling home after an argunment with her boyfriend. Her broken leg forces her to stay at home and she decides to redecorate so that she has some company. She feels a connection with Ed but both are hiding secrets about their pasts...
I Let Him In is described as a domestic drama but is so much more than that! It appears to have a mystery at its heart: who was driving the car that hit Louise? Was it deliberate? I had several theories about who could have been responsible and what their motivation was.
However this book completely surprised me...
The pace is reasonably slow as Louise recovers from her injuries and begins a friendship with decorator Ed. Things step up a gear halfway through when they both reveal the secrets that have got in the way of their previous relationships. My heart was breaking for both of them suffering alone for so long and I felt delighted that they had finally found someone to trust.
I was enjoying this book as a gentle romance and a mystery concerning Louise's accident. However, the last quarter of the book blew me away with the plot twists. My jaw literally dropped and I devoured the pages as the book raced towards its conclusion. The final pages saw me sobbing and even now writing this review my eyes are filling with tears thinking of the beautiful ending.
I Let Him In was so much more than I expected!

When Louise is in a hit and run cycling back from her boyfriends apartment, she finds she will be laid up for quite sometime. She is then hooked up with Ed a handyman from a Victims Support Group. The story is told from different POV's and the book had a surprising end. I enjoyed it and I encourage everyone to pick this up!

Louise had broken up with her boyfriend and is cycling home when she becomes the victim of a hit and run that leaves her with a broken leg. When she meets Tanya from Victim Support, she arranged Ed to come and paint her flat whilst she is recuperating. Ed and Lou both have secrets that they are covering up and slowly start to bond over those, much to the disgust of Lou's ex and the surprise of her sister Jo and niece Mia. As well as all this, there is still an ongoing investigation into who hit Lou that night and when the culprit is arrested, the story takes a turn that I did not see coming.

A scary yet fascinating read about a woman that chooses to tell her darkest secret to her caretaker in the aftermath of an accident. It shows just how precarious the appearance of a stable life can be!

Decent book until the ending. Then, it just got so ridiculously stupid, I regretted the hours I spent reading. I wouldn’t waste time or money on this.

I received this arc through netgalley and the publishers.

I raced through this book which follows Lou after she is knocked off her bike. We meet interesting characters along the way including Lou's niece Mia.

The twist at the end I could have never guessed at, I will be looking for more books by Jill Childs

Compelling, engaging and heart-wrenching, this book grabbed me from the very first page and wouldn't let go.

Would you sacrifice yourself to right the wrongs of your past? I Let Him In by Jill Childs is a story of love and forgiveness that will break your heart.

When Louise breaks her leg and is left house bound from a hit and run accident, she hires Edward to repaint her house and the two share an unexpected deep connection. As a sequence of events unfold, Louise reveals her secrets of her haunting past, only to realise that Edward has a terrible secret of his own.

A slow burn, mystery thriller, filled with twists and turns and an ending you don't see coming.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boookouture for the ARC of this book.

One of those quick, well written, full of what I crave books! The author wrote in an unique manner, which made me connect with the story and characters, which were developed perfectly. Fast paced, intense, full of thrills, chills, and shocks! Highly, highly recommend this amazing read!

A 5* read for me as it ticked all my suspense boxes.

So Louise gets hit by a car while she’s cycling home. She’s had an argument with her boyfriend so isn’t in the best frame of mind.

Her leg is hurt. Whose this person who could just leave her there after hitting her and driving past?

She’s got concussion and a broken leg.

So she’s in her small apartment with plenty of time on her hand. The Police have no clues as of yet.

Her sister suggests she get a painter in to cheer up the place, a nice colour on the walls should do it wonders!

Here arrives Edward, a friend of a friend.

The twist in this story is just not obvious at all. I ended up suspecting anyone and everything.

The suspense of finding out just what was what and will we ever find out…..kept me reading way beyond my bedtime.

The characters were so real whether I liked them or not. Isn’t that like life though, you can’t like everyone.

It flowed so well between time, events, people, nothing to me was unclear.

A superb read with such good suspense.

Thank you Netgalley for the advanced copy of I Let Him In. One of my favorite reads of the year!!
Last night I dreamt about the past for the first time in years. I thought I was over it. I thought I’d finally learned to block it out. But I’m right back there, all over again, inside the house, and I’m afraid...

When Louise Taylor is hit by a car as she cycles home in the rain following a fight with her boyfriend, she’s left hurt, confused, and housebound in her cramped apartment while she recovers. And worse, something tells her it wasn’t an accident.

Desperate to keep busy and distract herself from the flashbacks to her childhood that are beginning to resurface, she hires Edward – a friend of a friend – to repaint her shabby living room and, hopefully, keep the past at bay.

But when Edward arrives – quiet, considerate and handsome – Lou instantly feels like they’ve met before, that she can trust him. Tired of carrying the guilt alone after all these years, Lou tells Edward her secret. And to her surprise, he doesn’t pull away. He doesn’t gasp, or grimace or preach about what she did. And Lou is so relieved to finally be free of this burden at last.

Until she learns that Edward has a secret of his own. One he’s been waiting a very, very long time to tell...

Louise Taylor is a travel writer, about to embark on a trip to Chile with fellow journalists. Her trip is waylaid when she is struck in a hit-and-run accident and finds herself homebound while recovering from a broken leg. Eager for something to keep her occupied, her sister Jo encourages her to go ahead and get her apartment repainted, something Louise simply has not had time to do. When a victim support officer comes to talk to her after her accident, Louise casually mentions her idea of decorating. The officer, Tanya, recommends a family friend named Edward.

Slowly, Louise and Edward begin to get to know one another during his long days of working in her apartment. One thing disturbs Louise about Edward. She gets the uncanny feeling that they have met before. Before long, Louise feels comfortable enough to share a long-buried secret with Edward. He indicates that he has a secret of his own. Are they kindred spirits?

I was completely drawn into this emotionally riveting story by Jill Childs. Then there was one of the most shocking twists I have ever come across. This story of second chances is one I'll not soon forget. In fact, it is my favorite of her books thus far, and one my favorite of this month and one of my top books for 2021. I cried more than once while reading this story and there are no words to say how moved I was by the emotionally-riveting conclusion.

Many thanks to and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

I Let Him In by Jill Childs

I Loved this book! from the very first pages I could feel I was going to enjoy reading it and it did not disappoint.

One dark and stormy night Louise is hit by a car and ends up with a broken leg and a concussion. She is stuck at home and decides to have her apartment painted. She hires Ed and they have a connection, like they knew each other before and a feeling like they can tell each other their deepest secrets.

I loved the main characters, Louise and Ed and The sacrifice Edward made brought me to tears.

I could not put the book down as the story kept me on the edge of my seat. The story is fast paced, exciting and the twist at the end was mind blowing.

This is the first book I have read by Jill Childs but I’m already on the lookout for her other books.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Louise, (Lou), 36, has left her boyfriend, Toby’s house and is biking home in the rain. They had had yet another argument leaving them both angry. Them, she finds herself flying through the air and landing on the ground. When she wakes up in the hospital, she has a broken leg and a bad headache. She has been the victim of a hit and run. After a few days, she is released to go home to her apartment. Her sister, Jo and daughter, Mia, take her home. Jo will be checking in on her every couple of days. Jo suggests that she might want to use this time to get her apartment painted. Meanwhile, Lou is trying to ignore Toby’s calls, texts, and visits to keep him away from her.

Lou is a travel writer and has been to many exotic places. Usually, a travel agency will pay for her trip in exchange for her writing an article about it. She was supposed to leave for a much-anticipated trip to Peru and now that’s cancelled. When she gets a visit from Victim’s Support and Lou mentions getting the apartment painted, the woman suggests a great person.

Ed Spencer has come to paint her apartment. He has been kind and brought her coffee most mornings and they enjoy some chats. Lou is keeping a shameful secret and feels so guilty about it. Ed was in Afghanistan and is left with a guilty secret too. They open up and share their secrets which helps them to come to terms with it.

OK, truth time. After reading through all of this angst, the book ends on a weird note. I did not like the ending. It put me totally off the book and I’m disappointed. Read it at your own risk.

Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'I Let Him In' by Jill Childs.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Jill Childs, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 17th August 2021.

This is the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'The Mistress' which which I also recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Fans of Amanda Prowse, Kerry Fisher and Jodi Picoult won’t be able to stop turning the pages.' I am a huge fan of Jodi Picoult and Kerry Fisher so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Leslie Wolfe and if this is half as good as 'The Mistress' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 70 chapters. The chapters are short in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in London, 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, UK 🇬🇧.
The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.

This book is written in first person perspective with the main protagonists being Louise Taylor and Edward Spencer. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

'I Let Him In' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Jill discusses/includes war and death of a child.

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

OMG!!!! WHAT DID I JUST READ!?!?! MIND BLOWN!!!!

Another fantastic book from Jill with vivid descriptions which put you right in the picture. It really felt like Louise and Ed were talking directly to me from across the table over a cup of tea. The synopsis and cover suit the book perfectly.

The storyline is absolutely addictive and had me sucked in from the first page until the explosive ending. It is a heartbreaking story about regret, what ifs and second chances. I couldn't stop turning the pages until early hours of the morning so if you pick this up I seriously advice you to clear your schedules and also have the tissues at the ready. It is filled with heartbreak, hope, love, friendship and a few humongous twits that I did not see coming. A huge well done to Jill on that bombshell!!! I would have never guessed either of the twists in a million years. Very rarely I am shocked by books having read so many but this absolutely had me a cracker and completely blew my mind. If you are fed up of guessing the ending by 50% then this one is for you!!! There were moments of laughter and others of sadness that really caught in my throat. Whilst I loved the ending it was also heartbreaking for Louise at the same time but also a massive relief for her and life changing. It is so hard to talk about it without giving anything away so I will just say if you want a book with a twist you will NEVER see coming this one is for you!!!

I absolutely adored both Louise and Ed. They were both strong realistic characters and I was completely invested in them both. It was heart wrenching reading their stories but beautiful to watch them come together in their grief. I wasn't a huge fan of Louise's sister Jo and she niggles at me several times with her attitude but then I suppose she was just being the protective big sister. I wasn't sure what to make of Tanya but at the same time you have got to consider what you would do in that position. Again, I can't say more than that without giving away too much. Needless to say the characters were perfect for this absolutely fantastic storyline.

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Jill on one of the most shocking twists I have ever read and an absolutely addictive book!!

Overall an addictive, page turning, heartbreaking story with bombshells you will never see coming!!!

Genres covered in this novel include Psychological Thriller, Mystery, Suspense and Thriller amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Jodi Picoult, Kerry Fisher, Nicholas Sparks, Kerry Wilkinson and anyone looking for a book that will shock you.

298 pages.

This book is just 99p to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I Let Him In by Jill Childs

📓Genre: Mystery | Thriller | Suspense
Star: 🌟🌟🌟🌠 (3.7 rounded to 4 stars)

🔖 This is a slow-burn mystery thriller, having a good number of twists and turns and quite an unexpected ending.
🔖When the protagonist of the book – Louise Taylor – ends up housebound with a fractured leg after a hit-and-run accident, she never expects the string of events which are to follow. In hopes of keeping her haunting past memories at bay, she hires Edward to repaint her house, and ends up sharing too deep a bond with him. Her trust leads her to share her deepest secret with Edward, only to soon figure out that she isn't the only one with secrets.
🔖The air of suspense that the author has build is quite strong and the emotional quotient of the tale is deep. The writing was engaging, although at times the pace felt a bit uneven. Still the twists managed to keep me hooked.
🔖Overall, this book can sure pass as a good mystery-thriller.

🔸Final Verdict: Good
🔸Book Cover: Intriguing
🔸Writing Style: Engaging
🔸Character Development: Good

✨Many thanks to Bookouture (Publisher) and Netgalley for sending me the ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
