Omg! Omg! This book took so long to get to where it was going ! My son came in and asked me who I was yelling at?! ( I was yelling at my Kindle) lol I think my heart beat out of my chest waiting for Logan or Gladys or heck even the cops! To get in the freaking house!! The suspense was killing me! Lol my heart is still beating crazy! If you'd like to know who or what I'm talking about you'll have to read! Lol believe me its well worth reading! Ok I have to go now I need a big glass of wine to calm down! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me! And thank you to my new favorite author Nicole Trope for keeping Me up all night reading this book!
I am disappointed to say I did not enjoy this book.' The subject matter and what was happening to some of the characters is not something I would choose to read. I will not be more specific as I do not want to give away the plot. This was just not for me. I wish the author all the best with the book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and could not put it down. I think this book demonstrates the goodwill people still have for each other despite the reticence to be seen to be interfering in others life’s. I was so glad to read that Logan acted on his instincts and concern, and everyone needs a neighbour like Gladys.
On a hot summers day in a quiet suburb of Sydney shots ring out from the West's house. On the outside the West's are a loving family of 4 but who knows what goes in behind closed doors.
This thriller is told by the story of 4 main characters, Logan, a delivery driver with a past, Gladys the "nosy" neighbour, Katherine, the home owner and a mystery person.
Although I guessed who the mystery person was it didn't take away from the drama of the story. This was a great read
Many thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review
What would you do if you heard a scream from the neighbouring house? What if you knew their morning routine, but today, oddly, nothing has moved in the house?
Would you do something about it? Like calling up the neighbour and checking casually if everything is alright? or would you consider it too interfering and nosy, and just ignore it and go on with your day?
Do you think that by not interfering in the private family matters we're indirectly responsible for serious crimes like domestic violence go on uninterrupted?
"Home Sweet Home" is about one neighborhood which has seen almost no crime. All of a sudden, there's a gunshot. We are introduced to a 70 year old lady, Gladys, who feels lost amongst this new culture of leaving the neighbours alone. Then we have Logan, a young man who has had an abusive childhood and has faced a three year imprisonment in his past which he wants to leave behind for a fresh start. The whole novel is about what leads to the gunshot.
Firstly, I had never heard of Nicole Trope in Indian Book Community. I wonder why, because she is brilliant! The writing is fluid, the character development is amazing and the the plot is tightly knotted together without loose ends. The book is a slow burner in the beginning because the introduction of each character and their past is covered in depth which makes this book different from regular thrillers. The psychology of what goes on in someones brains, the back and forth of thoughts which can sometimes be confusing or outright contradictory to each other - are penned down with utmost carefulness and in detail. The author makes sure to keep you guessing how it will all end or what sense it makes.
My favourite character from the book is Logan. Such a brilliantly crafted character. For all his flaws, he has a kind heart. I love how everything comes together at end which gives a perfect sense of closure to the reader. I liked how "second chances" as a concept is used so well as the core of the plot.
I am so glad to have discovered a new author that I really liked and I look forward to reading more of her work!
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the ARC in exchange of an honest Review!
After reading this book I realize I use the phrase “page-turner” too much, because THIS was a true PAGE TURNER. I read it in one sitting. Catches you from the first page and doesn’t let go. The ultimate summer vacation read — suspenseful, exciting and not over the top as some of this genre tends to be. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free copy. I truly enjoyed it!
Oh my GOSH!!!!!! I read this emotionally charged, compelling book in one sitting. Whoa, my emotions are ALL over the place!!! You thought you knew what was going on and then BAM nothing what you thought was happening! Wow Nicole Trope where did you ever think of this plot??? I’ve never been soooooo engrossed in a book from the first pages. Amazing, Emotional and just Wow!! Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy.
A really solid read that I loved from the first page. With a Desperate Housewives vibe, do we ever know what goes on beyond closed doors? Those perfectly manicured lawns and pretty homes give no clue…
Everyone wishes that they lived on a quiet street and everyone look out for each other
Katherine and Josh and the children moved in and everyone loved them
But Marriage has secrets and regret
The Street was not as special as it was
I had an ARC
Home should be their safe haven - but not today! Behind closed doors, today is a day unlike any other, a mother and her twins are in danger.
This story is told from the point of views of each of the main characters. Someone has revenge on their mind, someone has turned over a new leaf, and someone is involved in other people’s business.
From the moment I opened this book, I could not put it down. The storyline was riveting and the writing had me gripped from the very first chapter. In less than 24hrs I finished the book and was blown away by the unexpected twist.
Thank you to the author/publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.
Something is wrong in the pretty house on Hogarth Street. The twins haven't left for school. The drapes and windows are still tightly shut and Katherine won't answer the door, not to receive a delivery that requires a signature or to talk to her next door neighbor. It took me a while to figure out what was going on but once I did I was hooked. Katherine and her husband are a bit of a mystery until the end, but the delivery driver and concerned neighbor were both intriguing enough to hold my interest while I waited to find out what was going to happen to the family in the locked house.
My Review:
Wow, I loved this one so much. This was the best Nicole Trope book yet. A whole box of tissues were gone in just a few hours. It was so intense that I was sit at the edge of my seat the whole time. I couldn’t put this one down for the the life of me. No bathroom breaks at all for me.
Ok, let’s talk about this book a little bit. In the United States we had a show called What Would You Do? This is exactly how I would describe this book. There was an awful event happening in a quiet neighborhood and decisions needed to made on whether or not to get involved. They had to decide what would be the right thing to do? I loved this about the book. Now on that my favorite character of the book. I loved Logan for so many reasons but the main one was that he was so brave. Logan had a past and pushed past that to help someone in need. He didn’t know if that past was going to catch up to him and get him in trouble again but chose the right thing to do anyway. Next up is the story. The blurb did not say it all when you read it. In fact you knew almost nothing about the book. I had no clue what I was really get into with this book but loved the way it turned out. It actually made it better that I had no clue what was going to happen. Now let’s talk about that ending. That ending really came full circle for me. All the loose ends were wrapped up so nice. I never had a book wrap up so tight before. There were no questions that were left unanswered. Nicole Trope this was by far the best book you written yet. Please don’t stop writing and I look forward to your next one.
Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Home Sweet Home - Nicole Trope
Suburban houses are something many dream of. Manicured lawns, front gates, friendly neighbors, etc. But no one truly knows what happens behind those closed doors.
Katherine is a prime example. Beautiful 5 year old twins, a beautiful house, and the imagine that her and her husband have it all. Her picture perfect world is flipped upside down one morning when her and her kids are held at gunpoint in their house by someone seeking revenge.
Gladys, the nosey neighbor, has an inkling that something is wrong next door. The blinds are still drawn, no noise from the kids, and Katherine's quick dismissal and refusal to open the door.
Logan, a delivery man, just wants to deliver a computer to Katherine and go about his day, but Katherine won't open the door to sign for the package. Her plea to him to "understand" doesn't sit right with him all day. Despite the news of his sister's hospitalization by her boyfriend, he still feels the need to circle back for the third time to try to deliver the computer.
Are Logan and Gladys able to put the pieces together of what's happening behind those doors and help Katherine in time?
This book was everything I hoped it to be and more. I feel like we hear these horror stories often in the news, but never really know the details of what actually happened behind that door. This book gives that insight and did a great job at carrying out 4 POV's. I thought I understood everything that was happening, but the twist at the end was just shocking. My only complaint was that some parts felt drawn out, but definitely worth it in the end!
⭐⭐⭐⭐/5.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC!

I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. What did I just read? This book was absolutely amazing! I will definitely be reading more books by this author.
Picture this--a quiet suburban neighborhood in the middle of the afternoon. Gunshots heard. A delivery man who tries to deliver a package to a house where a woman comes to the door but will not open the door but only talks through the peephole and sounds scared. This same delivery man has tattoos all over his body and on his face and has served time in jail and has turned over a new leaf and trying desperately to get a second chance at life keeps going back to this house through the day because his instinct is telling him something is not right. Another person who is a nosy neighbor and suspects that there is something definitely wrong at the house next door as the blinds are closed all day and the children have not gone to school. This same nosy neighbor is taking care of her wheelchair bound husband swears to him she saw a stranger in the garden.
So so good with so many twists and surprises. I could not put it down and read it in 24 hours!
Fast, tense, gripping page turner! I read this in one afternoon, I couldn't stop. The tension is relentless with a fast moving pace, interesting characters, and bits and pieces locking together and it drives forward taking you with it to the satisfying end. Highly recommended.
There is something terribly wrong at the West house.
This story starts out with a shooting in a quiet suburban neighborhood. What follows is the sequence of events leading up to the shooting as told from multiple characters.
Logan is an ex-con who is trying to get his life back on track while also struggling to overcome a childhood of neglect, toxic parents and his concern for his sister's abusive boyfriend.
While delivering a package to the West house, he senses something is wrong when Katherine won't open the door and speaks strangely to him. His instincts tell him something isn't right. Should he get involved despite his own troubles or let it go? After all, he could be wrong....
Gladys is the next door neighbor who everyone deems as the neighborhood busybody. But she's really just an elderly woman who is saddened by not having children of her own, dealing with her husband's worsening Parkinson's Disease and dreading a bleak future in which she is left alone.
Right now, her main concern is for her neighbor Katherine. There seems to be something wrong next door. Katherine and her husband had a huge fight last night and this morning he left home in a hurry, squealing tires on the way out. Glady also thinks it's curious that Katherine didn't take her twins to school this morning. In fact, she hasn't seen or heard from them all day and the blinds have remained closed. Odder, still, is Katherine's refusal to take her calls or answer the door.
Should she let things go as her husband suggests? After all, she doesn't want to be known as the nosy neighbor. But she can't help but feel a motherly attachment to Katherine and a deep need to protect her and her children.
Katherine can't believe her decisions have lead to this moment. She and her five-year-old twins are being held hostage at gun point by someone she loves and thought loved her too.
How could her life have went so wrong? And how can she save herself and her children from the man she thought she knew so well?
This story starts with a bang and the tension and stakes continue to mount until the explosive conclusion.
The pacing, plotting and characterization is so well done. I was expecting something completely different. But what I got was an emotional journey through the lives of three characters whose paths diverge on one tragic day. The characters' stories were heartbreaking, yet also uplifting in their determination and resilience to not only survive but thrive.
This is a must read if you're a fan of domestic/psychological thrillers.
This is the first book I've read by Nicole Trope but, if they're as good as this one, I'm ready to read them all!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I think Home Sweet Home is the 1st book I have ever read in a day.
I didn’t intend reading it so quickly, don’t think it is a particularly short book but once I started reading it I just couldn’t put it down.
A gripping book with little side stories going on that all connect neatly at the end, it really is one of those books that you think just a few more pages, just a few more pages, just another chapter and then the twist near the end means you just have to carry on reading until you have finished.
What are a chilling mystery! I absolutely devoured this book and you will too. One of the most exciting reads this year.
