Not my cup of tea, unfortunately. A good writer, but too “old school” for me. Meaning that there are lots and lots of scenes with people taking tea and making small talk and exchanging pleasantries, but the plot, which is very interesting by the way, goes on very slowly. And for half the book the hero and heroine just meet a couple of times, while they meet and interact with a bunch of other people by themselves (even a totally unnecessary suitor for her). And their connection is not at all palpable. They just start to like each other from afar and boom, they are in love… Also I hated the patronizing way the heroine was treated by the males of her family and by the hero himself.
And no steam at all, which sometimes I don’t mind but when there’s at least sexual tension between the characters. This time there was nothing at all.
Entertaining, but sometimes it’s not enough for me…
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was an interesting premise, with a madman bent on revenge against the hero, and the heroine in harm's way. I would have liked to see a little more romance to complement the adventure, but overall it is an enjoyable read.
A Dangerous Lord by Laura Beers is a story featuring a spy, a debutant, and a mad man. The MCs are Lord Evan Corbyn (the spy) and Lady Jane Radcliff (the debutant) and they take you on a journey of action, subterfuge, double crossing, suspense, intrigue, and a growing attraction that can no longer be denied. When nothing is as it seems Evan is faced with problems from his past. As a man who is able to look danger in the face and laugh at it he is facing his most daunting situation, a situation where there are no easy solutions, is Evan strong enough to fall in love?
This is a well-written storyline with characters that are well developed and easy to connect with, yet I couldn’t help but feel like this story was missing a huge aspect of the plot, the romance. Instead this story overflow’s with action that keeps you flipping the pages as fast as possible. I am sorry but the lack of romance, passion, chemistry, and intimate encounters caused the book to fall a little flat for me. Maybe it’s just me but I believe that novels in the romance genre, should have a large portion of the plot and MC interactions focused on relationship development, emotional connection, and passion. This story lacked those aspects which left me feeling bereft by the end of the book.
Overall 3 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ | 1 Flame 🔥
📚I received this book from Dragonblade Publishing for an honest review all thoughts included in this review are my own. 🦄
The story was interesting if not a little boring. The characters were ok. I found the chemistry to be lacking though.
What a ride! Evan, head agent to the Crown, rescues Lady Jane from a precarious situation. In the process he loses his heart. Lady Jane has always admired Evan, but since the rescue her feelings have deepened. These two must race against an old enemy in order to reach their HEA. Great read.
Thank you Laura Beers, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
Excellent Historical Romance with Spies and Intrigue
When people close to him start dying, Evan wonders which one of his enemies has come back to haunt him. In his career as an agent of the crown, he has made many. Danger stalks him at every turn, and everyone close to him is in peril. Will Evan be able to find out who is killing his agents? Evan knows that he must keep the woman who stole his heart at arm’s length to protect her, but will keeping his distance be enough protection? I enjoyed this page-turner and would recommend it to those who like historical romance with spies, suspense, mystery, and intrigue that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. I look forward to what comes next by this author.
Just wow. The strong female lead, arrogant male love interest, SOMEONE WHO WANTS BOTH OF THEM DEAD; HELL YEAH.
Has the potential to be better, but I did enjoy it :)
Great story with very strong characters and some interesting twists to the story. Loved the chemistry between Lady Jane and Lord Evan.
So glad the leader of he spies got his story. I highly recommend this book and this series!
I enjoyed this read from Laura Beers.
It has mystery, a beautiful love story with so much depth. I would definitely recommend this sweet clean read.
A Dangerous Lord by Laura Beers is a Regency spy novel and a good one to boot! Lord Evan Corbyn is the second son of a duke. Dissatisfied with being a soldier he has returned to London and is the chief of an unnamed spy bureau deep within the bowels of the Home Office. He takes his job seriously and is protective of his agents, requiring that they stay in close touch. When one doesn't, he gets right on it. Lady Jane Radcliff lives with her mother and her two brothers and their wives. Her older brother, Baldwin had recently returned from a three-year disappearance, and was married to a lovely woman called Madalene. Her younger brother, Oliver was married to Emmeline and appeared to love her but still behaved in a most outrageous manner...she didn't appears bother by his drinking and absences from home. Most curious. Her mother was anxious to see her married off; she was anxious to fall in love. She enjoyed seeing Lord Evan when he called on Baldwin but rarely saw him at balls or other entertainments. For Lord Evan, her attempted abduction was one in a line of crimes aimed at him. It was after that that her realized how he felt about her, not that he would ever act on it.
This is the third appearance of Lord Evan and he is a well-written character, his personality revealing itself slowly. He is self-contained, has an abundance of self-control, and holds a grudge. He is also kind, a loyal friend, and a loving man (toward his mother, at least). Jane is intelligent, curious, and hard working. She wants to make the world a better place and puts herself at risk volunteering to do just that. This is a good mystery, part of a dashingly good series, full of chasing about, dangerous situations, and good old-fashioned violence. The pacing is perfect, as required in a thriller, and is heart pounding. The skills of Lord Evan's men and associates are mostly beyond reproach, and heroes are made. Discoveries are made, both personal and professional, and people are made to pay. A good book. I suggest you try it.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of A Dangerous Lord by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #adangerouslord
Full of a mystery and intrigue, he is responsible for the agents of the Crown. Yes, a daunting task that requires his focus and dedication. When he finds an agent dead, the mystery begins.
Her brother seemed to keep disappearing and she is determined to find out what he is doing. Unfortunately she ends up in an unsavory place following him and finds herself in danger. Luckily he sees her there and rescues her.
They are destined to come together, but will they both survive? A great story that will keep you wondering what will happen next!
Lord Evan Corbyn is responsible for all of the agents of the Crown. It is a job that he takes most seriously, and it occupies nearly every moment of his waking life. When one of his agents is murdered, he is determined to bring the killer to justice. Lady Jane Radcliff tires of her brothers’ secrets and is determined to root out the truth. However, it is proving to be a much more difficult task than she had imagined. Thankfully, she is rescued by the dashing Lord Evan, a man whom she has always held in high regard. As they wrestle with their feelings for one another, a dangerous person from Evan’s past comes back to haunt him, causing him to push Jane far away to protect her. In doing so, he realizes that she has taken his heart with her.
This is the third book in the series & my favourite. I’m pleased Evan has his story & what a lovely mix of romance & mystery it was. A slow burn romance as Evan is so engrossed in his work & has no time for romance & marriage but there is a spark between him & Jane & it’s that spark that puts Jane in danger. A well written book that had strong characters & was fast paced. It drew me in from the start & held me until the epilogue
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Probably the best in the series. There were a few rather predictable moments but I still thoroughly enjoyed it
A superb mix of suspense, secrets, and romance
A great read that will thoroughly pull you in. Lady Jane is surrounded by people with secrets. Her brothers are keeping things from her, not explaining their behavior, and refusing to answer her questions. Now Lord Evan (Corbyn), the only man she has ever been interested in, is following in her brothers’ path with evasions and refusals to answer. When attempts to harm her are made she wants answers but is only brushed aside. Told that she will be taken care of. Corbyn has always been drawn to Lady Jane but with his former life as a spy and now head of the crown’s espionage group he feels unworthy of her. When threats and attacks occur against people he cares for, the pressure on him increases to keep his people, friends, and family safe, especially Jane. A wonderful book you will not want to put down. I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
I really liked this book. It is filled with intrigue and suspense. I have waited since book 1 in this series for Corbyn’s story. I loved the plot of this book. Corbyn is so in control of his life, to have it turn and distract him, is unthinkable. Lady Jane is a big distraction, even though Corbyn has declared love and marriage would never happen for him. I liked learning more of his background and family. And the intense appearance of a former agent, with a vengeance. The story is fast paced and keeps you guessing. Even after the epilogue, I wanted more! A sweet wholesome romance, with great suspense and mystery.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Lord Evan Corbyn has stealth and James Bond like undercover skills that enable him to be one of the best operatives in a black ops covert group that doesn’t exist according to the government.
Lady Jane Radcliff unfortunately becomes embroiled in one of the nasty underground affairs of the agents life by not only having brothers with mysteries and there friend Lord Evan who she has had feelings for a long time.
It would seem that the author presents to us a journey of sleuthing to uncover who is truly after whom and where do all the characters fit into what plot! I enjoyed the book because you know there is an endgame, but one has to follow the crumbs to get there and Laura Beers does a good job of doing the leading. I would have liked more interaction between the villain and Evan & Jane. To much was spent on the brothers and Jane. Also more romance between Evan and Jane would have been a plus and that’s why 4 stars.
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
While this is a good book, the romance isn't in the forefront of the story. I enjoy suspense thrillers, so I still enjoyed reading this. The main characters are wonderfully crafted and the story keeps you enthralled. As long as you're not looking for a book heavy on romance, this is a great one to pick
I found this novel suspenseful and intriguing as Lord Evan Corbyn is plagued by the loss of a valuable agent, and then an informant, not to mention Lady Jane who keeps on getting into trouble. Evan has his hands full trying to keep tabs on all the agents reporting to him and has very little time for personal affairs, let alone matters of the heart. Although Lady Jane has caught his eye, he knows that with his past and the secrets that blanket his life, he has no place desiring a match with her. Lady Jane Radcliff is inquisitive and her curiosity leads her into danger. When Lord Evan comes to the rescue, she thinks she may just have a chance with him. However, Evan's unequivocal pronouncement regarding love and marriage leaves Jane feeling defeated. Unfortunately, the spark that exists between Evan and Jane has already been noted, putting Jane in the crosshairs of a dangerous man. I enjoyed this novel, the suspense, and ultimately the attraction that sprung up between Evan and Jane. The epilogue certainly points to an illustrious future, although not without some sadness and loss. I received a copy of this book as a gift from Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Lord Evan Corbyn is responsible for all of the agents of the Crown. When one of his agents is murdered, he is determined to bring the killer to justice but all is not what it seems.

As they wrestle with their feelings for one another, a dangerous person from Evan’s past comes back to haunt him, causing him to push Jane far away to protect her. In doing so, he realizes that she has taken his heart with her. Is he strong enough to make room for Jane in his heart or will he choose the easier, but more solitary life?
I haven't read the other books in the series before but I was able to follow the story easily enough. It's a great book. Nicely paced. Likable characters... Lots of actions and suspense. An intriguing plot. The romance is nicely done. Sweet and romantic... I love the epilogue too.
Thanks to the publisher for providing an arc.
Corbyn and Jane's story made a great addition to the series. The book flows at a nice pace. The characters are well-written and I've liked them from book one. The epilogue was a nice addition, but I still want more of the characters. This book was full of action and intrigue. I read it in one sitting. This book is somewhat romantic, but there is no sex or great passion.
I received this book from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for an honest review.
