When I first started Wings Discovered, I had high hopes. The premise is intriguing – a small-town girl, Stephanie, living in a dangerous place rife with human trafficking, meets a mysterious new man, Lee, who seems too good to be true. Turns out, he’s not just any man – he’s an angel on a mission to stop human trafficking, and his connection with Stephanie feels almost predestined. A forbidden love story between an angel and a mortal with high stakes? Count me in.

Stephanie’s life in small-town Indiana is tough. She lives with her younger autistic sister Amma, and when Amma has a meltdown at a local store, the appearance of the new manager, Lee, feels almost like divine intervention. Lee’s calm demeanour and the way he understands Amma is beyond human, and it doesn’t take long for Stephanie to realize he’s not just any man. Lee, an angel sent by the Divine, has a mission to stop the horrors of human trafficking. But as he becomes more drawn to Stephanie, the lines between duty and desire start to blur.

First off, the world-building and premise have potential. The tension between the human trafficking subplot and the mysterious, almost magical presence of Lee is a solid foundation. Lee’s angelic nature and his struggle between his mission and his growing attraction to Stephanie is a great hook. Stephanie is a relatable protagonist, doing her best to protect her family while living in a dangerous town, and the connection between her and Lee feels authentic – if not a little fast-paced.

However, some drawbacks keep this story from reaching its full potential. The biggest issue is the length of the book. At under 100 pages, Wings Discovered feels like it’s just scratching the surface of what could have been a much more fleshed-out story. The pacing suffers as a result. Every time the plot starts to build momentum, the book ends, and I find myself frustrated by having to move on to the next instalment to continue the story. While I get the appeal of short, bite-sized reads, this one felt like it was splitting up what could have been a solid novel. There’s clearly a great story plan here, but it feels incomplete as a series of short books. If these books had not been on KU I would not have bothered to continue as it felt like greed from the publisher to serialise them like this as if we were reading Dickens when this is certainly not the calibre of Dickens.

Another point worth mentioning is the inclusion of romance and sexual elements. While I can appreciate a bit of steam, the romance felt forced in this context. If the books were edited to remove the explicit scenes, they would make much better speed-read YA novels with a broader appeal. The themes of human trafficking and angels on a mission are strong enough to carry the story without the need for added sexual tension.

All in all, Wings Discovered has a promising concept with a unique take on the angel genre, but the execution leaves room for improvement. If the series were to be expanded into full-length novels, I think it could be a lot stronger. As it stands, it’s a quick read with an intriguing premise, but the format holds it back.

This is a captivating read for fans of fantasy romance and adventurous stories that explore the complexities of relationships, duty, and the blurred lines between divine purpose and human connection.

This book is the beginning of what seems like a really wonderful story. I would have liked this as more of a full novel as opposed to a novella. While I understand that it does develop into a bit of a series, this one alone is just a bit off for pacing. Some scenes progressed really well and quickly enough to satisfy a novella but not so quickly that it catches you off guard. However the high impact scene in the beginning and the final scene of the book both move way too fast. Had this been a full length novel, these would have likely had time to fully flesh out these big and in depth storylines. However, I still really liked this story. Even though the pacing was jarring, I'll probably go ahead and read more of the series.

Interesting enough concept that I feel compelled to read more into this but at the same time I'm wondering what this brings to the table. Angel stories are hit or miss for me and this one lands somewhere in the middle. I love a good romance that has the whole " she is the exception " trope. I like that the author has some mental disabilities represented and that the angles are getting involved in putting a stop to human trafficking.

This introduction to this series is short and has a good storyline.

Lee is an Angel. He is on a mission regarding human trafficking. He doesn't date, but when he meets Stephanie, he changes his mind. Will he show her his angelic nature?

As part of a series, this installment ends on a cliffhanger and entices to read more of the story.

I received an eARC from Netgalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

As a seasoned reviewer I must say that this book was quite a pleasure to read. I have a real appreciation for including an individual with learning difficulties or a disability and embracing the story line with compassion and Love for the said character. I also enjoyed all other aspects of this novel and found it to be creatively written. I feel that I have to acknowledge that the author should be commended for the story line of this novel and the publisher for availing me the opportunity to be able to request to read it. Thank you so much.

I highly recommend this book for all to read.

The beginning of a story that is quite promising - hard to rate since it was only 41 pages and not much happened, but the characters and premise have promise.

Stephanie stops in to the local gas station to treat her sister for a good week. There she meets Lee, an angel disguised a human. He is trying to stop a trafficking ring that uses the gas station as a meet up. Stephanie is more than interested in him. Lee, however doesn’t date.
Opinion
This novella, while short, is captivating. It is the start of a promising series. Reading this book will leave you wanting more so have book two on hand for when you finish.
Many thanks to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC of this book.

A fast read, but not in the way that I would have liked it.

The pacing was just too fast and there was no development at all. I would love for this story to have more depth because I love angels and the fact that they are fighting sex-trafficking....
