Welcome to Paradise, Wv! Although it’s nothing compared to actual paradise. It’s a small rural town being ripped apart by the opioid epidemic. It is also the home of Henry and Jane, a sibling duo living with their grandmother due to their father being in prison after having been convicted of being a serial killer. Henry and Jane believe in their father’s innocence, along with their new friend Otis. A new investigator has arrived in town to sort out why more girls are being murdered with the same technique as Henry and Jane’s father. If he is in prison, then who is committing these murders? Is it a copycat? An accomplice? The wrong person all along?

This was full of twists and turns. I enjoyed the fast paced movement of the story. The characters really do come to life. The author did a great job of describing the characters and the setting of this small town. The things I didn’t enjoy were the cluster of viewpoints, it just didn’t work well for me. It didn’t feel cohesive and was all over the place. I also didn’t care for the narrator, the accents seemed forced not realistic.

This is definitely for fans of true crime!

I loved this book. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I picked it based on the cover & genre (thriller).

Serial killer is caught & incarcerated.

Serial killer’s 2 teenage kids have to live with this dark cloud over their heads.

A couple moves into town with their teenage son. The boy, Otis is a genius with a father who has a problematic past.

Officer Garcia came to town 6 months ago with the promise of being fast tracked to detective, she also is having believable personal issues.

The heart of this story isn’t a whodunit but rather it’s the journey these 3 teenage kids take from the moment they all meet until the mystery unfolds.

I loved Otis, Jane & Henry. The dialog felt genuine to me. The story drew me in and I read it in one sitting.

I’d like to thank NetGalley & Dreamscape Media for providing me with a copy of this book. Loved it!

This was a solid mystery about two kids trying to clear the name of their father, who they believe is wrongly convicted of being a serial killer. Told from several perspectives, you follow the breadcrumbs with the characters as they start to piece together clues pointing to his innocence and it leads you down an unexpected path. With a few twists and more than one red herring the ending was unexpected and satisfying. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery. The narrator, while able to create different voices, did so a little too over the top. Some of the character voices were a bit campy or cliche. Subtlety would have been better for this kind of story so as not to distract from the plot.

Had an interesting premise, but this fell flat for me due to the pacing and the narrator. I enjoyed seeing how the effects of the true crime affected the the family and the premise sounded good, this was unfortunately not for me.

My thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the chance to review this audio.

Henry and Jane Lusher are trying to prove their father Hollis, is not the Blind Spot Slasher , and was framed. A
true crime podcast comes to town bringing further light to their case.

In the second story arc, Lt. Elena Garcia is asked to find a missing girl related to opioid overdoses.

Third arc is Henry's new friend Otis who helps Henry and Jane and that takes their investigation into a strange cult. Took a bit link things together.

I liked the one surprise at the end but story was a bit all over the place for me.

When the host of a popular true crime podcast arrives in Paradise to report on The Blind Spot Slasher, the children of the alleged serial killer's lives are thrown into chaos. Meanwhile, sheriff’s lieutenant Garcia is investigating a missing girl, digging deeper into the deaths of several people who were addicted to opioids. and contending with the sheriff, who doesn't take her seriously. The author does a fantastic job conveying small down suffering and highlighting what the true crime podcast frenzy looks like from the other side. Gritty, funny, and entertaining.

This book was incredible and had me all over the place with my emotions.

I loved the children in this book: Henry, Otis trying to solve the crimes and doing a way better job than the adults.

I loved that this book touched on so many topics including the devastating effects of the opioid crisis.

The little clues along the way helped me to piece this mystery together fairly quickly but it was the characters journey that held me enthralled!.

Okay so the synopsis! It looks so good and right up my alley, but... this just wasn't it for me. I wanted more from the podcast (which felt more like an after thought), and felt like some of the characters were flat or too trope-y for my liking.

Do I think this will draw a large number of readers? With the popularity of true crime podcasts/docuseries, yes. Do I think it will be decently received? Yes. The pacing is solid and it is an interesting story, just a miss for me.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What an incredible story! I love literary thrillers with great characters ♥️

𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐮𝐬: In a poor West Virginia town decimated by the opioid epidemic, teenagers Jane and Henry have it even worse than most: Their father is Hollis Lusher, a convicted serial killer known as “the Blind Spot Slasher”. However, despite being bullied at school, the siblings still believe in their father’s innocence. And now a popular true-crime podcast is coming to town and stirring things up.

Someone in the area is killing young women and making it look like overdoses; the drug epidemic created the perfect storm for a copycat of the Blind Spot Slasher to thrive. I don’t want to say any more about the plot because of twists, but in the book you will find: a true crime podcast, a snake handling cult, murder and Mammaw, my favorite character. I highly recommend picking this one up on July 20th!

Many thanks to Rob Rufus, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the advanced listeners copy!
