What happens when you are about to marry the man your family chose for you and you end up finding out the Vegas fling and marriage eight years ago , was never dissolved?
Maggie Kelley finds herself in a bind and flies to Maine to find her “husband”, Finnegan/Finn Garrity. A boat builder whose life is dedicated to building one of a kind boats and his family. Also the man that never forgot that special girl.
Both are shocked that the chemistry is very much alive. Finn wants Maggie to stay but what happens when life, responsibilities and realizations intervene?
I have to confess that I loved the story and the characters and now have added this author in my TBR list.
This was a wonderful story about family, and second chances in life and love.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Like Sweet Home Alabama but sweeter!
In this story the two main characters get hitched after a drunken night in Vegas. They go their separate ways and don't interact for 8 years. Maggie's memory of their time together is a blur but Finnegan remembers every moment. They meet again when Maggie asks Finnegan for a divorce since she wants to marry someone else but Finnegan decides he's going to win her back.
This was a sweet romantic second chance story. The characters were great and easy to root for.
Finnegan was a dream! He can sweep me off my feet anytime!
This is a first in a series so I am excited to see who gets their HEA next.
Thank you Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for the arc. This in no way effected my thoughts or opinions on the book. All opinions are my own.
The Do-Over is the story of Finn and Maggie, who get married on a drunken weekend in Vegas and then after deciding to get their marriage annulled, go back to their respective lives. Some years later, when Maggie tries to get a marriage license, she finds out that she is still very much married to Finn. When Maggie comes asking for a divorce, Finn decides that he wants Maggie to stay and goes about showing her how good they can be together.
I thought the premise of the story was great and some of the moments were really good too, but I found there was something missing which I just couldn't put my finger on. Some of the scenes had me zoning out and I thought they didn't move the story forward in any way. Finn and Maggie were sweet characters but they didn't have me really cheering for them, or eager to see them work through their obstacles. This story had great potential but it didn't grip me as much as I'd hoped it would.
A fun quick read. Finn and Maggie marry in Vegas on a dare, think they have divorced, only to find out eight years later they are not. It is a humorous story with great characters. Nana is a cheeky old lady who is willing to manipulate her grandson Finn into doing her bidding. Finn is a small town guy who has never forgotten the red head who captured his heart. Though the story deals with some serious issues it is not done in a way that will make you sad. Mostly you will just find opportunities to smile at the antics and enjoy the beautiful descriptions of the gorgeous scenery. You will also enjoy Finn’s schemes as he gets a second chance to woo his wife.
The Do-Over is the author’s first book in her Finding Home series. Melissa Mackinnon is a new-to-me author, but I’m always on the hunt for my next favorite, so I took a chance. And it was worth it!
Finn and Maggie’s story is an opposites-attract, second-chance romance that was sweet yet a bit angsty at times. There’s a cast of secondary characters that you mostly fall in love with…except for Maggie’s father. Finn’s family is loving, caring, and loyal, and you just want to hang out with them and play baseball every chance you’d get. And let’s not glaze over just how swoony Finn is with his big, mushy heart. Maggie is lovable in the sense that she’s not so set in her ways that she’s overbearing. Eventually, she learns to consider how her actions will affect those around her. Not to say she’s cold-hearted or anything like that. She’s simply not been in a situation where she needed to consider others because of her family’s attitudes and upbringing. I loved that she was willing to watch, learn, evaluate, and grow. And I loved that it wasn’t just Finn but also his amazing family that led to the growth in her character.
All in all, this book was a light, entertaining read. So if you’re in the mood for a sweet story with lovable characters and a feel-good HEA, you’re not going to want to miss this one. I’m now very much looking forward to the next book in this series!
NICUnurse’s Rating: I give The Do-Over by Melissa Mackinnon 4 out of 5 stars!
4 1/2 stars!!!
I really enjoyed this book and the characters.
I felt all the feels with this one. I laughed a lot and cried some. Was thinking are you far real a couple of times cause it was like boom plot twist!
I think that Finn and Maggie are the perfect couple.
Wild Fling - Second Chance!
Maggie is shocked to find she is still married to her Las Vegas fling but even more so when she tracks him down to find he is still as hot as ever and more supportive of her, and her career, than her father or ex ever were. But how can they have a marriage when their lifestyles are so different. Very glad there was an epilogue to see the juggling of careers.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you NetGalley, author Melissa MacKinnon, and Entangled: Bliss publishing for giving me a free arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What happens if you marry someone on a dare in Vegas, is what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?
4 stars
This is the question Maggie finds herself asking when after years of looking for her perfect man she has found him and is in the middle of planning her wedding, but there is just one problem, Maggie discovers upon applying for her marriage licenses, she is already married and has been for the past eight years. Finnegan Garrity finds Maggie on his doorstep asking for a divorce after eight years. She is the last person he expected to see in his small town. Maggie has always been his "one," and now that he has something she wants, he has just a week to convince her to make a "do-over" of their marriage.
This was my first book by this author and it will not be my last. The premise of this book gave me so many "Sweet Home Alabama" feels. I loved the light-hearted storyline, the small town setting, and the characters. I loved Finnegan's family especially his grandmother. She was so adorable! The characters had wonderful chemistry and I loved all the angst between them as Maggie was trying to fight her growing feelings for Finnegan and the life he is offering her, which is so different from the expectations of her parents. This book held my interest until the very end, which meant I had to finish it in less than one day! The ending was well satisfactory and I agreed with the choices made by both characters. I would recommend this book to those who love a second chance romances and or fans of the movie "Sweet Home Alabama." I can't wait to read more new release books by this author!
This was really cute. An enjoyable, light, summer read. Maggie and Finn are fun, and the "oops, we're still married" trope is great. Oh, and meddling grandma is really funny.
This was a sweet, spicy, sizzling second chance romance that I couldn't put down. When Finn and Maggie have a drunken weekend wedding in Vegas but then eight years later find out they are still married when Maggie shows up in Rockport, Maine to have him sign the divorce papers, things start getting a bit "misunderstood."
Finn's Nana was absolutely delightful to read she knew what she was doing from the beginning it seemed. When she mistakenly thinks that Maggie is this "Michelle" who is Finn's girlfriend of a few months and then thinks they are engaged after seeing the ring on her finger, things start getting quite interesting.
I was happy that from the beginning you could a dual POV where you can see how both are reacting and how they both feel about each other even though they aren't mentioning it to each other.
I normally don't do second chance romances but this one was done perfectly and had my attention the whole way through. I really enjoyed their relationship and seeing how it blossomed even more over the few days they spent together.
this is my first by Melissa MacKinnon, will definitely read others, this is a book about how bullying affects you even as an adult. good read. would highly recommend
The Do-Over was a cute read that was a mixture between Sweet Home Alabama and The Proposal in a short time frame. I really liked the plot of the book and the characters. I was able to read this book within a few days, the pacing was very good.
This was a four star rating. Thank you Netgalley and publishers for allowing me to read and review this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

Finn and Maggie meet on a drunken weekend in Vegas ... they end up married. When the weekend is over they agree on a divorce and then go about their lives. Eight years later when Maggie goes to get a marriage license, she finds out she's still married to Finn. Maggie is a city girl, but she makes her way to the small town where Finn lives to get a divorce once and for all. Finn has thought about Maggie almost every day for the last eight years, now he has a chance to win her over and make her his wife for good.
I really liked the premise of the story, but I just didn't love Finn or Maggie. I found that some of the situations they were in were unbelievable and some the banter just didn't feel right ... this is just my opinion.
I received an early copy courtesy of Entangled Publishing through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
Throw away all your suspensions of disbelief for this plot about two people who seemingly have nothing in common except the boozy weekend they shared eight years ago in Las Vegas. Now it turns out that they never actually got divorced so Maggie has flown in to a small Maine town from her ritzy LA life where she works as an events coordinator for charities to break the news to Finn that they need to get a divorce. She ends up having to stay in Maine for a short time and, of course, she and Finn rekindle their romance. Who would have guessed that would happen?
I am never all that enthusiastic about plots that involve protagonists who live very far away from each other and have very different lifestyles, but somehow they figure it all out by the end of the book how they can work it all out.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
The Do-Over is a cute second chance romance. I love Finn and his crazy family. Maggie is a sweetheart that is a little lost. Finn just gives you those special feelings. I love the give and take of Finn and Maggie. The whole do over will put a smile on your face as Maggie and Finn get to know each other again after their 8 years apart. I could not get enough of this one. You get the feels and all the smiles in the process. You feel the frustrations that Maggie and Finn go through. This is a sweet read and you are going to just love Finn and Maggie. I'm looking forward to more of the Finding Home series yet to come.
I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a second chance romance. After a drunken weekend and a series of dares, strangers Finn and Maggie end up married.
When Maggie goes to get a marriage license she finds out she is still married 8 years later.
This book has a Sweet Home Alabama feel with a husband who doesn't want to give up his estranged wife.
Overall it was a cute read. 3.5 stars
This was a light, pleasant read. There was lots of humor and a casual, contemporary style. The characters were likable and kind, with realistic concerns and issues. I liked that I wasn't quite certain how they were going to work things out right up until the end. There was quite a bit of chemistry and heat--so much that I was surprised at how closed-door it was! But it still remained a sweet and enjoyable story that was worth reading.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
I loved this book! The characters are engaging and I really enjoyed the small town, New England setting. Finn’s family make for great secondary characters, especially his adorable grandmother. It’s warm-hearted, romantic and the perfect, relaxing Summer afternoon read. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.
A second chance romance for Maggie and Finn.
They married in a whirlwind 8 years ago in Vegas, and though the other had got the marriage annulled. When Maggie finds out she is still married, she cancels her engagement and heads off to rural Maine to find Finn and get divorced. But Finn wants a second chance and decides to try to get her to stay.
A great read - I like how it is told from both points of view and it is in a great setting.
Maggie has been walked out on by two men in forty eight hours. She separated from Winston her fiance after he found out about her husband Finn. They got drink and married and she thought a divorce had went through.finn still adores Maggie but he doesn't belong in her world.
