A riotous enemies to lovers romantic comedy, Lisa Wells’ Aggie the Horrible vs Max the Pompous Ass will have readers laughing out loud from page one.

Wild child Aggie Johansson might be desperate for a job, but she isn’t so desperate that she would accept a position working for the insufferable, infuriating and downright aggravating golden-boy entrepreneur Max Treadwell. Aggie knows that if she doesn’t accept the job then she would end up breaking the hearts of the two matchmaking grandmothers who had set this interview with Max up for her, so in order not to cause them any unnecessary stress or anguish, she is going to do whatever it takes to make sure that Max doesn’t hire her. Unfortunately, her plan quickly goes up in smoke!

The last person Max wants to hire is Aggie. She is every employer’s worst nightmare and she has been fired so many times, he’s lost count. Max might have promised his grandmother he’d give Aggie a job, but if she refuses to take him up on his offer, then it won’t be his fault. With his company about to sign on the dotted line for a major deal, the last thing Max wants to concern himself with is a screw-up personal assistant, however, little does he realize that not only will he and Aggie end up working together, but he will also end up stunned by an unexpected twist of fate that will compel him to look at her in a completely different light.

Once upon a time, Aggie and Max couldn’t stand the sight of one another, but now it’s keeping their hands off one another that’s the problem!

Lisa Wells’ Aggie the Horrible vs. Max the Pompous Ass is such great fun! Hilarious, heartfelt and irresistible, this workplace romantic comedy sizzles with red-hot chemistry, witty banter and steamy sensuality. The one-liners come thick and fast, the dialog is razor sharp and the heat generated by Aggie and Max will certainly send readers’ temperatures soaring through the roof.

Fun, uplifting and so delicious I devoured this book in a single sitting, Lisa Well’s Aggie the Horrible vs. Max the Pompous Ass is a superb romantic comedy readers will thoroughly enjoy.

In the last eighteen months, Aggie has had numerous jobs and hasn't stuck to even one of them. Meemaw, her grandmother, has raised her from a young age and she still lives with her. Max owns his own business and has a bet with his father, with whom he constantly butts heads, to win. It just happens his grandmother, his closest family ally, makes the acquaintance of Meemaw, and soon they hatch a plan to get their grandchildren together. Because they are sure Aggie and Max are perfect for each other. Their plan starts out with getting Max to hire Aggie to replace his assistant, who is on pregnancy leave. The plan doesn't exactly go off without a hitch but they are soon working together, if only because both are stubborn. And they definitely aren't falling for the meddlesome grandmas.

This is a take on the enemies to lovers trope and it's an enjoyable read for the most part. Both Aggie and Max have a bit of baggage from their pasts which gets in the way of them being happy with their lives. And both have some sort of chip on the shoulder, although I think it's far bigger in Aggie's case because she is so focused on the poverty of her life that she acts a bit foolish about some things. On the other hand, she does have some charming skills and they seem to be an asset to Max's business and life.

I found this quite funny at the beginning and then it kind of plateaued for most of the rest of the book with a few peaks towards the end. The lack of proper communication forms the basis of a temporary parting near the end of the book and I'd have liked that to have been a bit better. But then both of the main characters do have some issues to overcome.

Overall this was a fun read and I give it 3.5 stars. I'd like to thank Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for freely providing an advanced reader copy. I've submitted this review completely voluntarily.

A quick a cute read. Aggie and Max read as opposites but the more we learn about them the more we find out that they are just playing roles. It was cute to watch the lead up to their relationship and quite funny at times. I wish both of the characters had been a bit flushed out and more pestering Grandma moments would've been enjoyable. Overall a good read and I look forward to reading what Lisa Wells writes next.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!

If you need to laugh out loud and really who doesn’t these days sit down and read this book. Its a riot. Its not to easy to take a story line we’ve all read before and make it new and so incredibly entertaining. The writing is smart, witty and just snarky enough. The two main characters are strong willed, both very opinionated, are diametrically opposed in just about everything and want only to be in charge of their own lives… except that they both desperately want to please their meddling grandmothers. Hmmm. It truly gets funnier and funnier. Yes, of course there is a great HEA, but why else would you read this if not hoping for just that.

Thanks to the publishers, Netgalley and the author for an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.

Aggie and Max are an explosive combination in this romantic comedy. Aggie and Max's scheming, match-making grandmothers try to set them up by getting Aggie to work as Max's assistant. Max is privileged and driven, Aggie seems flighty and indecisive but opposites attract in a huge way.

There's a lot more to these characters than meets the eye and it's so much fun seeing them peel back the payers and really get to know each other - in ever which way, people, they get to know each other really intimately. This book had so much steam it made my head swim!

A lot of fun and a lot of heart. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Poorly written with unlikable characters. I got an advanced readers copy and I truly couldn’t finish. Just not my kind of story. Every character was like a cartoon character and completely unrealistic

I was highly intrigued by the title as it has definite Kiss me Kate/Taming of the Shrew vibe!

This is a fun, fast paced read of opposites attract, sort of enemies to lovers story. It’s not just fluff either though, there’s some very tough feelings and emotions evoked due to both main characters having painful issues in their pasts.

Best part is the grandmother matchmakers! They are fun and adorable. All in all I enjoyed this one a lot in spite of some debut novel struggles. I find them to be very nit picky and I look forward to more stories from this author!

I knew I would love this story just from the title alone which made me laugh out loud. I was not wrong. I enjoyed this so much. I had so much fun reading it and swooning and laughing the entire time. This is a new to me author, but I will definitely be looking for more from her. I loved the chemistry between these characters and the banter is off the charts. I can't wait to see what else this author has in store for us.

This is the type of book you didn’t know you needed to read until you finished reading it. It ticked so many boxes for me. From the banter between Aggie & Max, the laugh out loud moments, two meddling grandmothers and last but certainly not the least - a wonderful storyline.
Lisa is a new to me author, and from the fabulous book I have just read I will definitely be reading more from her in the future.

When Max beloved but quite eccentric grandma tells him she quits being his assistant, he thought that was the end of it. Instead he finds himself interviewing and hiring her chosen replacement. Aggie never really knew what her Meemaw got her into by arranging for her to get a job with her friends grandson. And yes she definitely smells some fishy matchmaking going on. Still she turns up for the interview and gets the job despite trying hard not to get it. But when Max and Aggie commits to being the worse employer and employee around they do so with gusto, just to get out of this mess! This book was a funny, poignant and entertaining romance between total opposites in more ways than one.

Aggie and Max are the 'it' couple and really made me smile with their banter & hot chemistry.

I loved their matchmaking grandmas, and the enemies to lovers trope..

I received an arc of this book and the opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was a fun book with great pacing. Max and Aggie both learn not to judge a book by its cover…or past. The grandmas were great, and it was just a really good book!

Aggie the Horrible vs. Max the Pompous Ass was such a fun read! I mean, how could it not be, given its title? There's banter, there's chemistry...really, it's what you want from an opposites attract read.

This book is a work of art!

I don't know how the author manages to write a story that has you constantly laughing, includes steam and depth to the characters, but she does it! The story is about Max and Aggie, both of whom have meddling grandmothers. Aggie's grandmother arranges an interview for Aggie as Max's temporary assistant. Even though Aggie does not want to take the job, she promised her Meemaw that she would take the job if it's offered to her. Max on the other hand, does not want to employ Aggie, considering that she has went through seven jobs in the last couple of months. Both of them conduct a plan, Max makes Aggie so uncomfortable that would make her not want the job, and Aggie presents herself in a very unprofessional manner so that would make her unemployable!

I recommend this book because the book is so beautifully written, it is a light read, but still, there is a bit of depth to it. It's been one of my favourite books that I've read so far this year!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a must-read, I laughed from the first chapter to the last. I could not put the book down, one chapter after the other I would say « one last chapter », yet every time it was a lie. This book is well written, funny, touching. There was an amazing rhythm, every twist was the perfect length. There was a perfect balance between the personal and the professional aspect of there relationship. I loved the main characters and I absolutely adored the two grandmas!

One of my favorite books this summer!

Aggie the Horrible vs Max the Pompous Ass 3/5 Stars

Summary from Goodreads:
One’s playing a game. The other’s keeping score.
When wild-child Aggie Johansson shows up for an interview with the last person she’d ever want to work for, golden-boy entrepreneur Max Treadwell, she has one goal—to not be offered the position. While she hates to disappoint the two matchmaking grandmothers who’d pressed Max to hire her, she wants nothing to do with a pity job. Besides, the guy could easily win Mr. Pompous Ass of the year.
The last thing Max wants is to offer Aggie a job. The woman, a mixture of bizarre and annoying, has gone through at least a half-dozen employers this year already. He might’ve promised Grandmother he’d hire her, but if Aggie doesn’t take it because he’s more than a little un-charming, that won’t be his fault. After all, his company is on the brink of a major land acquisition, and the last thing he needs is a screw-up as a personal assistant.
With neither of them willing to disappoint their grandmothers, the interview becomes the stuff of legends, and somehow, before either can blink, they’re suddenly stuck working together.
Aggie’s determined the only way out is to be the worst assistant ever and get fired…
Max knows his grandmother would kill him if he fired Aggie, so he’ll just have to be so awful she quits…
But what happens next, no one could have seen coming.

I didn't think I'd want to read this book just based on the title, because it seemed really juvenile, but after reading the summary of the book, it looked cuter than I thought it would be, so I picked it up. The elements of cuteness were definitely there, but the execution was not done in a way that I was a fan of, so I had a really hard time staying engaged throughout my whole time reading. Let's start out with some of the things that I liked: Max and Aggie had such great relationships with their grandmothers and I thought that was super cute! I also liked all of the trivia that Aggie knew and the fact that the two of them worked together really well. I didn't really like a lot of the end (I'm trying not to spoil it for anyone who does decide they want to read it, so I won't say exactly what it is I didn't like), how it seemed like neither of them really knew how to communicate or was willing to communicate, and just the general childish feeling I got throughout the book. Neither of them really ever owned up to their mistakes, their grandmothers, who I really did like in general, were always trying to throw them together and even though they're adults and could have just sat them down and said no, we're not interested, instead decided to pretend they couldn't stand each other or were dating other people to try and get grandmothers off of their backs. Like what the heck. Overall, not my cup of tea, but I'm sure there are other people out there who would love this book.

I received an eARC copy of this book for an honest review.

This book has it all. Scheming grandmothers, the girl from the wrong side of the tracks, the rich guy with mommy (and daddy) issues, steam, humor, and a dumpster kitten.

Aggie is the kind of character that says the things the rest of us are too scared to say. She has a chip on her shoulder and doesn’t trust rich people but she’s not the overly cautious, reserved one that often ends up in these stories.

Max is the rich guy that has commitment issues but avoids being the stereotypical playboy who has everything handed to him.

This was perfect for the beach or when you need a palate cleanser after a heavy read.

I enjoyed reading “Aggie the Horrible VS. Max the Pompous Ass”. There were a few hits and misses for me. The author has a good writing style and the story kept me entertained. Aggie, Max and the rest of the small cast of characters were colorful and interesting. Aggie’s struggle with societal perceptions was a bit frustrating at times. She was portrayed as a strong, independent woman, but so often fell back on the worry that she was from the “wrong side of the tracks.” Max could have been fleshed out a bit more. And both of them behaved a bit juvenilely at times. There were also a few threads that weren’t really tied up, and I was confused by some later revelations about Max’s parents that didn’t seem to be germane to the story. It was a pretty typical romance without much to either recommend or dissuade a reader. While it wasn’t very memorable for me, and I wouldn’t intentionally search out more work by this author, it was an enjoyable way to spend a few hours nonetheless.

Okay, so enemies to lovers is my absolute favourite trope. With this in mind, I was really excited to read this story. The positives: there are plenty of funny moments, and the sexual chemistry sizzles from the start. The problem with that? There's little tension. We know they're REALLY attracted to each other, so it's inevitable.
My biggest problem though is that, while the premise of the girl from the wrong side of the tracks falling for the trust fund guy seems like a perfect opposites attract, I did struggle with Aggie's work history. Listen, I'm all for people finding a job they love, and which is the perfect fit. What I have a problem with, however, is a young woman doing that while her elderly grandmother supports her. What's more, having been raised in a low income family, the very notion that Aggie wouldn't have even bothered working a job she hated, purely to tide her over, was ludicrous. She talks about failing lessons in high school to get out of school trips her Meemaw could't afford. That's the kind of experience that makes you strive to earn money.

Overall though, I enjoyed the story. I just wish some of the events (like the entire cat situation) weren't quite so outlandish and unbelievable.

I love Aggie and Max! Along with their meddling grandmothers, Meemaw and Grandmother (Hazel and Grace). I don't know which characters I loved the most but I definitely think the grandmothers need their own book.
Aggie who can't seem to keep a job does her grandmother a favor by going on a job interview with her friend's grandson. Max thinks his grandmother is crazy for trying to get him to hire someone who can't keep a job for more than a few weeks. However, they both agree to the interview. Aggie chooses to be a horrible employee and Max wants her to think he is the worse boss ever. Unfortunately, neither one will back down and disappoint their grandmothers. So the hilarious story of Aggie and Max begins but they soon find out that they make a great business pair. But can the grandmothers get them to be more. I love stories that have not only intriguing main characters but the supporting characters make you want a book about them too. Lisa Wells captures that and so much more in this Rom-Com that started with two grandmothers and a plan.
