PIRATE’S PROMISE by Lisa Kessler is book 5 in the Sentinels of Savannah Series. This is the story of Aura Henderson and Greyson Till. Greyson and Aura end up having to pretend to be husband and wife so that they can find the gilded blade. Of course their main goal is finding that gilded blade so they can secure it but their attraction to each other is working to take priority. I have read the previous books and have really been enjoying this series and this author's writing.

A believable fiction full of adventure, romance and action! It makes me wish I was taking the boat ride with the characters I have grown to love in this series. As usual, it’s not necessary to read all the books before this one, but with any series I know it will give a little more insight. A must read. Book provided by NetGalley.

Once upon a time, in the 1700s, the pirate crew of the Sea Dog found an unexpected treasure. They found the Grail. That Grail. King Arthur’s Grail. And drank from it. They expected, honestly, nothing at all. What they got was a form of immortality. They heal. From everything. Even old age.

Actually, they just never age. Something that has become a big more difficult to cover up in the 21st century with its CCTV, social media everywhere all the time, and just the sheer amount of documentation that’s required to make a living.

Even immortal pirates have to make a living. Keeping their replica Sea Dog not just afloat but seaworthy requires licenses, paperwork and yet more paperwork, and, of course, money.

After all, the pirates may heal, but their ship most definitely does not. And operating the Sea Dog as a tourist attraction is more a labor of love than profit. And it requires a cargo hold of licenses and permits of its very own.

That’s where Department 13 of the U.S. Government comes in. It’s not a surprise that there’s a department tasked with monitoring the weird, the wacky, and the things that go bump in the night. It’s even less of a surprise that the department in question would know ALL about the immortal pirates.

So when a dangerous relic is stolen from Department 13’s super-secret and super-secure warehouse, only to turn up in Scotland, the Department is a)embarrassed as hell and b)worried about causing an international incident with their British counterparts, who are, of course, MI13.

But there’s not a lot of trust between the pirates and the government. Not surprising considering their respective histories. But the Department needs to get that relic back, and the Sea Dog is the right crew for the job. With one addition, Department 13 Agent Aura Henderson.

It’s a simple job. Sail to Scotland aboard the Sea Dog. Pose as a couple of well-heeled collectors, buy the relic and sail back with the prize so it can be locked up again. Hopefully more permanently this time.

NOTHING about this job is as easy as it should be back in the planning stages in Savannah.

Aura doesn’t believe the pirates will have her back. The Department fears that the pirates will, well, act like pirates and sell the relic to the highest bidder. The current owner of the relic is Aura’s former NYPD partner and the entire operation is a trap. For her.

Oh, and Aura’s former partner – he’s a demon. And that relic of his – it’s out for blood. Specifically, Aura’s blood. It wants to cut her open in order to take it.

Escape Rating B+: I got started in this series in Magnolia Mystic because I was looking for something a bit lighter and fluffier than the dense tome I was reading at the time. Between the immortal pirates, the evil property owner, and the seeress promising gloom and doom, I was surprised to get what I came for. There is a bit of lightness in this series, even though there’s generally something dark and evil coming their way in every story.

Considering their long lives, the pirates of the Sea Dog have more than a few demons of the psychological type in their mental baggage. They all have serious trust issues with outsiders for obvious reasons, and when the story began they’d all loved and lost a few too many times and all seemed to be more or less resolved not to get emotionally involved again.

But this time there’s an actual demon, although not so much a demon from hell as a demon from a hellish dimension. The demon has stolen a mythical sword that can cut through any material. It’s already cut through Agent Aura Henderson’s trust in herself. This “thing” was her police partner for several years and she never noticed that it was anything other than a cop she shared pizza and a love of B movies with. Until he revealed his demonic nature, she thought he was one of the good guys and was she ever wrong.

What’s making this whole thing work for me is that the setup reads as if Stargate and Anna Hackett’s Treasure Hunter Security series had a book baby and this series is it. From Stargate we get the idea of other planets and dimensions who have left stuff lying around and from THS comes the idea that government agencies and private contractors are tasked with hunting this stuff down and putting it away where it can’t do any harm. That Treasure Hunter Security is an action/adventure/suspense type romance makes it a very strong read alike for the Sentinels of Savannah. (Start with Undiscovered and be prepared for a book binge to tide you over until the next immortal pirate falls.)

So Pirate’s Promise and the entire Sentinels of Savannah series is just a big ball of elements that I love. There’s a touch of the paranormal, supernatural or otherworldly, there’s the idea that history is bigger and much different from what we imagine, there’s action, there’s adventure, and there’s a hot romance between two people who are perfect for each other and fighting it every step of the way.

That the pirates have baggage as well as booty and that the heroines have all walked through dark places and kept both their dukes and their guards up just adds to the fun. This entry in the series, featuring the romance between the ship’s master gunner and an agent who really, really loves to make things explode definitely made for a fun and explosive reading time for this reader.

A great modern day pirate story. These pirates are immortal and they are recruited by a secret government agency to find magical artifacts. One of Department 13's agents, Aura joins up withe crew and is partnered with Greyson the pirate she loathes. But there is a thin line between love and hate that turns to passion. This couple was fun. The mission is dangerous and hearts will be on the line. Can this workaholic and pirate have a life together after the mission? "Love doesn't make things easy. It makes them worthwhile."

Another action filled adventure for the immortal pirate crew!

Greyson and Aura were perfectly matched - from their hard heads to the very hard layer of protection that surrounded their soft hearts, and of course their love of all things weaponry! There was the usual emotion and chemistry between these two, but both Greyson and Aura were so protective of their hearts I wasn’t sure they were ever going to let their guards down enough to find their happy ever after! These two had me laughing with their banter, frustrated with their inability to communicate, and so caught up in their backstories that I couldn’t help but keep rooting for them to work through their issues (I’m really looking at you Aura!) and tell each other how they felt!

I jut love this crew of immortal pirates and their ever expanding family - even Captain Flynn is starting to grow on me. I loved that this story took place on the Sea Dog and we got to experience more of the ship, including One-Eyed Bob in the galley as he not only feeds the crew but plays matchmaker and offers all sorts of advice, and even getting to spend time with the ladies, Char and Harmony.

I love Lisa Kessler’s writing and am always amazed at the emotion she is able to put on each page. Her characters are always colorful but believable and her writing makes the reading effortless. This is part of a series but can easily be read as a standalone.

Once again, Lisa Kessler has delivered another wonderful story that has me awaiting the next book!

Greyson Till is the master gunner of pirate ship a fabled pirate ship . He has as impressive collection of weapons. So when a sword a legendary sword goes missing he is intrigued . He has to work with Aura Henderson who really doesn't want to be working with the immortal pirate. So posing as a married couple they are off to Scotland to track down the sword . Will they be able to find the sword and come out of the adventure with their hearts and lives intact.
Ok Greyson and Aura have to be my favourite couple in this series . Greyson well he is a mans man, he loves anything that involves weapons. He is pirate through and through , sexy and an alpha in a way that will make you want to fan yourself . Deep down in his heart though he is missing something in his life . He has demons he is fighting and deep down all he wants is love and to be loved . Aura is a tough as nails ex police officer who is working for department 13 and she is one sassy lady but deep down she is hurting from a past that is still haunting her today. They are such good characters and you will love them . They are well written and complex .
This is book has it all , brooding pirates , sassy detective, and yes demons . The characters are very well written and complex and you will absolutely fall in love with . The author writes such fun characters that get into some trouble and will break your heart and then repair it . This is a book that you can read in an evening by the campfire or by the pool . It is a fun sexy read that will have you turning pages . I think you have to read the series in order to have the full effect of what goes on but it is a fun series to read and you will love all the characters . So check it out .

Wow! This is a must read for anyone looking for a hot, steamy adventure and doesn't mind magical realms. I loved this one. I am fairly new to this author, I did read the book prior to this one so I was familiar with the crew and what it was about and I was lukewarm about reading anything further but this book blew up any prior conceptions I had!
The chemistry between Aura and Greyson is off the charts. The way in which their tension and eventual love was written was so genuine, you could feel it. And Greyson is just 100% hot!
The story line is really good- setting sail on a mission, Agent Aura Henderson gets herself in a little too deep but Greyson has her back as she learns. The whole issue of learning to trust again was very real and evident in this book.
This can be read as a stand alone however I feel that having read the book prior gave me a better insight to the other characters of the story and you come to understand a bit more.
This does deal with the supernatural world and normally, I would never read anything dealing with that world as its just too unbelievable for me. BUT, Lisa Kessler has this unique way of making it these notions so common and everyday that you don't question it, you truly believe in the Grail, Pandora's Box, and in this case the Tyrfing sword.
Strong writing, good editing.
I cannot recommend this book enough, I think readers will be pleasantly surprised and secretly wishing for a pirate of their very own!
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my review.

Now the close up of Greyson-Master Gunner, oh yeah. He knows weapons as he should. When a special blade goes missing who better to go looking for it. Along with Division 13 the hunt is on. His partner and pretend wife is someone he knows. Aura is not thrilled though to be paired with him with reasons of her own. She will have a hard time in the resistance too. Turn the pages on this paranormal mystery that will also have romance at your fingertips.

This book was so fun! Paranormal pirates, sign me up! Greyson and Aura are a great couple. I love the banter and sexual tension. The lust to love of their relationship. They are interesting characters who realize that compromise in a relationship does not mean giving everything up. Can't wait to read more in this series.

This is book 5 in the Sentinel's of Savannah series. It can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading all the books in order as the characters are all introduced in previous books. With that being said, we get the Master Gunner Greyson's story in this one! Greyson has a love of weapons, and being immortal he has an impressive collection. But when a legendary sword goes missing from the government’s paranormal artifact vault, he knows he wants to be in on it's retrieval. But working with the agent sent from Department 13 has challenges he wasn't expecting. Aura is a weapon's expert with Department 13 and isn't thrilled to be paired with Greyson. The last time she saw him, he blew her cover and almost got her killed! But now she has to pose as his wife in order to complete her mission. And in the process learns that there is more to this pirate than she ever would have thought.

I really liked this one! There is definitely more to Greyson than I thought! And a lot more to how he became a pirate, in a way that I wasn't expecting. There was definitely more to him than meet's the eye! Aura also had a backstory that I wasn't expecting but it intrigued me. The way everything tied together not only with the current mission but with her past kept me reading and wanting to know more. I loved the buildup of everything and this world as a whole, my only thing that I was left wanting to know how the person with the sword became how they were. I wish there had been more on that. Other than that, the rest was great! I definitely want to know more about what the captain is up to though!

Love this whole series! The pirates in modern times theme is so great! Love the bits of action and adventure, and the magical, mystical elements. Plus, sweet and spicy romance! Greyson and Aura have great chemistry; love the little bit of enemies to lovers thing going on. They both have an affinity for weapons, so they team up and go undercover to find a magical, cursed blade. Obviously, their chemistry and connection won’t be denied! Just a fun, entertaining read!

Lisa Kessler builds on a chance meeting in the last book Pirate's Persuasion between paranormal weapons expert Aura Henderson and immortal pirate Greyson Till in Pirate's Promise (Sentinels of Savannah #5). To say this meeting event did not go well is an understatement so this begins as a enemies to must work together relationship. From there it develops into much more as they search to recover an unusual and dangerous sword.

This is an exciting, sexy read. The plot balances between the relationship between Aura and Greyson and the danger of recovering the sword. Of course, there are a few unexpected twists in the story too. That is why this series is so good, expect the unexpected.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I found it difficult to get into this book. I really liked the premise and thought the characters were interesting but I found that it wasn't a book that I was sucked into and that it was fairly easy to put down.

Loved this addition to the Sentinels of Savannah series. There was a lot of action going on and a few pant melting moments.

Greyson Is the immortal Master Gunner of a pirate ship. Aura is a paranormal weapons expert from division Department 13 and his equal in every way. When his crew is contacted to help them retrieve a legendary sword that has gone missing from their vaults, Greyson is ecstatic. He even has the sword tattoo on his arm.

The two are not happy to be paired together. The last time Aura saw the immortal pirate, he blew her cover to save one of his friends. Now they are going undercover as a married couple. As they work together, feeling begin to grow on both sides. They have a lot of turmoil to work through and the ending was a bit emotional. I loved that!

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book through NetGalley.

I enjoyed this book so much! It was fun, interesting, and well-written. The characters interact well together, there's danger, romance, and lots of steamy heat that doesn't feel gratuitous. Highly recommend.

I have been provided with a review copy of Pirate's Promise from NetGalley for an impartial review. This is the fifth book in the Sentinels of Savannah series and I just loved getting to reenter this world. I was just drawn into this wonderful story and I just couldn’t get enough of it. It was just so easy to get lost in this great story. I just didn’t want it to end. I just lost myself in and I just couldn’t get enough of these interesting characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

Aura Henderson is an agent with a very special and secret part of the government. They look into paranormal or magical items to stop them being used by unscrupulous people. Our heroine has a strong commitment to protect the American people from things they don't know exist. She still has nightmares about her own discovery.
Greyson Till is the master Gunner on the pirate ship the Sea Dog. He and most of the crew are immortal and over two hundred years old. There is not a weapon that our hero doesn't know how to wield. The crew of the ship have helped the government team before, always on their own terms of course.
This is a magical story filled with great characters and lots of fun. There is also a lot of danger, and some hot sexy scenes.
You don't need to have read the other books in the series to enjoy this, but it will certainly tempt you to read all of them.
Great fun.

I have been reading this author for a while now, and I am pretty sure what I am getting when I start a book by her. This latest book in the Sentinels of Savannah series is just what I expected: heart-warming, well-written, fun, sad, and just all around great. In this one, Aura is still smarting from Greyson interrupting one of her undercover operations, and now she must work with him. I loved the interactions with him, and how she has to overcome her own feelings to love him. If you love a great romance, or just love the author’s books, this latest is a great way to spend an afternoon. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Will her stubborn blindness doom their relationship…

I discovered this series with the previous book, for a HR reader when switching to contemporary, there is nothing better than a pirate as it still has one step in the past.
Greyson had no other choice to follow his kin legacy as any other life was impossible during his youth, so tainted his name was. Now more than two centuries later, he has embraced his past, adapting to modern life but never forgetting from where he comes from.
Aura has nothing left in her life except her job, it is the reason she wakes up every day. But she still has not disgusted her last assignment being blown up but an immortal pirate. So when her new mission pairs her with the same fellow, she is determined to keep him at arms length, if only he was not so enthralling.
While there began on the wrong foot, they quickly find common grounds until trust and her need to prove her worth to her boss jeopardize their relationship.
I loved to watch them walking on eggshells with the other, Grey longs for more, so cute and honest when Aura is so stubborn , she is unable to let go of her control, which explains the full of dents journey, not exempt of pain and hurt.
4.5 stars
