I quite enjoyed this book and am thankful to have received the audiobook ARC. A must-read for fans of thrillers/suspense fiction.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read to this book!
I enjoyed this one and I highly recommend.
I was sucked in this one the minute I started. The story felt so real. It was my second read by her and it was just as good as the first. There were many sensitive topics but she did such a good job with her writing. Absolutely loved it.
I always enjoy KS. Her books are so dark and graphic. This is a bit triggering with the subject matter tho. I really loved the mystery and enjoyed this book. Only take away was i didn’t like how much it talked about Covid.
You cannot go wrong with a Karin Slaughter book. Strong women and mystery with psychological twists and turns. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook.
Slaughter continues to out=do herself with each new release. A fantastic plot & narration to boot - you can never go wrong with a Karin Slaughter thriller. Set amongst the backdrop of the pandemic and done in a totally unique way, another winner from the queen of the thrill!
Wow. It had been a while since I'd read/listened to a book by Karin Slaughter, but this one did not disappoint. She jumps right in.
This book is graphic and contains sexual abuse of a child, so please be aware.
When Leigh, a high power attorney is asked to defend a serial rapist she realizes she knows who he is, and what trauma that happened twenty years ago he also seems to know about. Her sister Callie didn't escape her past in the same way and a life of drug abuse has left her barely hanging on.
This book had me completely wrapped up. I needed to know what happened, I wanted revenge and I wanted some closure for the sisters.
So well written and the audio narration was stellar as well. Kathleen Early did an amazing job of capturing this book.
This book dealt heavily with Covid and being someone who has lived with the pandemic for 3 years and lost loved ones I have just not been in the mental frame of mind to finish it.
Another Karin Slaughter book, that everyone should enjoy. It's nice to know you can always count on some authors to not disappoint.
A good audiobook that flew by. I was able to finish this one in a short amount of time and absolutely enjoyed it. The writing was good and allowed the mystery and intrigue to really build.
The narration was excellent as well - I really enjoyed it.
Leigh Collier and her sister, Callie, didn't have an easy childhood. Their mother wasn't really fit to raise dogs, yet she was raising two daughters in the rougher suburbs of Atlanta. Despite that, Leigh rose above her childhood to have a fairly successful career as a defense attorney. She and her estranged husband have made a lot of sacrifices for their daughter. Including Leigh living apart from them in order to keep them both safe from the Coronavirus. They are watching a musical at their daughter's prestigious school one Sunday night when Leigh is summoned to her law firm. The summoning confuses her, but of course, she goes and discovers that her past is waiting for her on the top floor of her office. Waiting for her is a man that she and her sister, Callie, babysat over twenty years ago. He is being accused of some fairly heinous crimes and he requested Leigh to defend him. A man from a wealthy family who is not used to being told no - by anybody. The more Leigh learns about the mand calling himself Andrew, the more Leigh realizes that the people she cares about are in grave danger. Will she be able to keep this man from destroying everything Leigh has worked so hard to achieve and keep everybody she loves safe from harm?
If you know nothing about Karin Slaughter, know this - she writes dark, gritty novels that will keep you up at night. And she is one of my favorite authors. False Witness is one of her best. From the very beginning, it drew me into the story. Leigh and Callie are both incredibly complex characters that are a product of their childhood but manifested in different ways. Leigh lets guilt drive her career choices, trying to constantly make up to her own child her insufficiencies. Callie has spiraled into a world of drugs and addiction because of her childhood. Also, False Witness was the first book I have read that really weaves the very real pandemic into its pages. In fact, both Callie and Leigh had the virus. But it only adds to Leigh's guilt. All of this culminates in a very explosive conclusion. I was so blown away by the end of this book; it stuck with me for days after. CLICK HERE FOR SPOILERS.
Bottom Line - Karin Slaughter is such a phenomenal writer, but make no mistake. Her books need to come with trigger warnings and have extreme themes that could give you nightmares. False Witness is dark, gritty, compelling, and completely irresistible.

Thank you to NetGalley for the free book for an honest review.
Karin Slaughter continues to create such amazingly dark and twisted novels. From the beginning of FALSE WITNESS up until the end, I was completely addicted to this book. The characters are honest and real. The plot is complex, but still engaging and entertaining. Another winner for me.
Audiobook Note: I have listened to a number of the author's books and this one is just as good as the others. The narrator, Kathleen Early, has done a few of them. She is simply wonderful. The tone in her voice brings to life the story as well as adding tension where needed.
I'm not sure Karin Slaughter needs another good review, but here goes. She writes a really tight thriller with fully developed characters. I will always pibk up her books.
I am a big fan of Karin Slaughter so I was excited to get the chance to listen to this audiobook! Thank you Netgalley
False Witness follows their main character Leigh Coulton, who has built a great life as a defense attorney and had a wonderful daughter, but her life wasn't always this easy. She works hard to cover up her past of secrets and violence. She is given a high profile case, which could advance her career, but she knows she isn't the right person for the job, and when she meets her client she soon finds out why. Leigh is running from her past, but someone out there knows exactly what happened.
This book is also written during Covid times, which is so interesting to read since we have seen how different the pandemic has progressed since this story.
give this one a go and try some more of Karin's wonderful books.
2 WORDS: BLOWN AWAY!
This was my first Karin Slaughter book and oh my gosh - I was hooked and kept in suspense for the entire 18hrs - RIGHT TILL THE END!
Cannot wait to scoop up more of Karin’s books!
NOTE: many ⚠️ trigger ⚠️ warnings ⚠️
Please look into the details before reading this one. Definitely not for the faint of heart 🔪🩸💉
Thank you Karin Slaughter, NetGalley and the Audiobook publisher Blackstone Publishing. My review is voluntary and I am grateful for this Audiobook copy.
Liked the narrator but the story dragged for me,, not sure I would reco.mend. I love KS so if you’re a fan I’d still give it a try.
You know when you have a Karin Slaughter novel in your hands, you're in for a thrilling read of a lifetime, and true to her previous works, this book doesn't disappoint one bit! This is my first ever audio book and I truly loved the experience!
Let me just start by saying - ALL the content warnings for this one. Like, more than I can even recall. But that’s not entirely unusual for a Karin Slaughter book, so I think if you are a Slaughter fan or have even just read any of her previous books you’ve got a pretty good idea what you are in for: a well researched, detailed, dark procedural with well established, flawed characters that attach themselves to you and don’t let go. This is a long one though. I think it’s length and the heavy topics made it a good one to start and stop only while on training runs.
What stood out about this book though, and may live permanently in my brain as, is the first book I read that existed solidly in the midst of COVID. Considering this book came out in June of this year, Slaughter did an amazing job of weaving the feeling and reality of present day COVID pandemic without making it the main topic of this book or even a big part of the plot. I think she did an especially good job of capturing the feeling of being a parent during this time.
If you have read of Karin Slaughter's back library.....you are in for a dark journey through one the best stand alones Ive read in awhile. So good, I listened to the audiobook too so Id not miss anything. In the twisted question of nature vs nuture, Karin Slaughter's FALSE WITNESS, will raise more questions than answers.
Leigh Coulton is a defense lawyer who has earned her life's goals the hard way. She's spent 20 years living with the secrets her family has tried to bury deep. When she is assigned a new client, the doors are blown open and she must work hard to do her job....no matter what. This is another EXCELLENT Karin Slaughter book. Treat yourself, read the book.
Excellent concept! I loved the idea of defending someone you suspect is guilty and the entire audiobook was excellent.
