Such a helpful read! Loved this one!

Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for my ARC.

I wished that all cookbooks were required to have color photos of their food so that those of us that look before reading recipes had visuals, but also for those who like the photo to see how it was plated or arranged. Thankfully this one does have photos, but they are not the Instagram worthy ones that make you instantly drool. Also since I was looking at a kindle version, the formatting wasn't quite perfect so the recipes were a little broken up. I think this will be better done in the final print copies or on larger format like iPad. The recipes sound yummy and those who are counting calories will appreciate being able to still make wonderful meals without loss of taste.
Thanks for the ARC copy from NetGalley, all thoughts are my own.

I thoroughly enjoyed this cookbook. My husband was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and his doctor recommended a Mediterranean diet. So I am always on the lookout for cookbooks pertaining to that recommendation. Great starter recipes-all of the pages we have tried were easy to make and tasted delicious. would recommend it to those looking to try out the Mediterranian diet or need some new ideas.

The recipes in this book sound delicious. A few of the ingredients are not things that I have on my shelf but appear to be readily available at my local grocers. Before I could try any of the recipes, I was put on a strict diet and cannot eat many of the foods included. I forwarded it on to my daughter, who has enjoyed everything she has made. I would purchase this book for others who don't have my dietary regulations.

Currently trying to loose weight I picked this catchy titled cook book hoping it would help in a more sustainable approach to food.

While a beautiful collection of recipes it was quite repetitive and nothing really new or exciting about it. I also don't associate the slow cooker with breakfast - or in fact med cooking (other than slow cooked lamb but that's better in the oven anyway!

If you are new to cooking the recipes are simple and use mainly "normal" ingredients so would be a useful addition to the cookbook shelf but otherwise its probably a little basic for me.

Baklava Oatmeal? Yes, please!

I love Cookbooks that make use of everyday items in your pantry and don't require a lot of specialty foods but still teach you how eat healthy.

I found so many great recipes in this book that I'm eager to try with my family. I'm guessing that more than a few will stay in our meal rotation.

This will be a great addition to any home kitchen focusing on healthy eating.

Thank you #AdamsMedia and #NetGalley for making this available for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

3 1/2

A lot—alot alot alot—of Mediterranean cookbooks have hit the shelves in the past few years and I’ve tried to read and review of lot of them. Peter Minaki’s The 400-Calorie Mediterranean Diet Cookbook‘s claim to fame is right there in the title: all the recipes are 400 calories or lower. The cookbook covers the usual territory of informing the reader of why the Mediterranean diet is so good for you, how to lose weight, how to get active. Many of the recipes you’ve probably seen and tried before. A few standouts to me were the baklava oatmeal (mouth juices going just thinking about it), carrots with lemon and capers (yes, I’ve doused carrots in lemon before but capers, oh, yes, please!), breakfast risotto (I love risotto, nothing need more be said), and grilled asparagus with roasted peppers and feta (I don’t think that needs explanation either).

A personally peculiar gripe: I wish after he talks about removing the bread circle for eggs in Italian bread he gave a suggestion of what to do with that circle of bread like maybe let it go stale for Panzanella (not included in this book) or freeze for stuffing so that newbies are not just tossing it down the garbage disposal.

I found the side dishes to be the most interesting–all veggies, go figure. 😉

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The 400-Calorie Mediterranean Diet Cookbook attracted my attention because a Mediterranean diet was suggested by my physician. While the book had easy enough to access ingredients and the recipes sounded good, there were a few drawbacks. Most of the breakfast recipes involved a slow cooker, and many had a cook time of 6 hours. This just isn't practical unless your slow cooker can automatically turn to a warm setting. Also, many of the recipes called for a fair amount of sweetener. A Mediterranean diet isn't focused on calorie counts alone, but is also supposed to be low in sugar.

The variety of recipes in here are great! It also gives some nutritional information, which is beneficial for people who are looking for it!

Sometimes you just need that extra inspiration to eat healthier. And when I find recipes I can easily make in my slow cooker, that´s even better! One of the stand-out recipes is the Baklava Oatmeal (yes, I have a sweet tooth)!
The Tuscan Chicken and White Beans and the Grilled Asparagus with Roasted Peppers and Feta are also right up my alley.

The Standard US/Metric Measurement conversions in the back of the book are super handy to have.

Thank you NetGalley, Peter Minaki and Adams Media for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This cookbook has an attractive premise--low calorie recipes, the popular Mediterranean diet. It's filled with lots of interesting recipes, some with very appetizing photos. But maybe only 1 in 5 recipes are pictured. At the same time, there are pages with plenty of white space where a photo could have been inserted. The visual is very important to foodies and regular people alike. It's important for many of us to see what the dish looks like in order to decide whether to try the recipe. Thus, in browsing through this cookbook, I was not attracted to many of the recipes because there was no photo. For that reason, I would not purchase this cookbook, in spite of the attractive topic.

Some of these recipes are so yummy sounding. I know that this is meant to be a diet book, but it seemed a little too over critical of people who aren't on this specific diet.

The recipes in this cookbook are varied and not too complicated. I wish there were modifications when a recipe calls for an appliance like a slow cooker. But overall, you'll have the necessary kitchen equipment if you do any regular cooking. Ingredients are readily available, with the exception of some specialty items like dandelions. Organized by meal--breakfast, soups and salad, desserts, etc. I look forward to trying the roasted pears with honey, mint, and lemon. Not every recipe has a photo, but the color photography is attractive. Good for health-conscious cooks and dieters looking for an alternative to the latest fad.

The recipes the healthy lifestyle advice is fabulous on this book.
Love the look of the foods on this book and can’t wait to get started on them.
The ingredients look good and done seem at if I will have to spend hours going from one shop to the next to find them. Which for me is an essential.
They also look very nutritious.

I would recommend.

I love cookbooks and have an enormous collection. However, this cookbook is really special and I find myself using it every week! I love Mediterranean style cooking and every recipe is a keeper. (which is unusual in cookbooks). If you're doing a low-carb, high protein diet, or if you're just looking for new recipes for terrific salads and tasty "high quality" protein dinners, this should be your go-to book. I've started using olive oil in almost all my cooking and have cut way back on processed food and saturated fat. And the meals are surprisingly filling. You don't have to feel deprived, you will have a plateful of colorful, delicious foods awaiting you!

I have been trying to eat the Mediterranean way for some time. I have read many recipe books about it and cooked many of them. This book has a great premise, lower calorie meals. Overall, the book was good. It has very simple ingredient lists, which is convenient, but a little boring for -e-Le that like to try new tastes and flavors. I also wish it had more photos.
