Sally is a tribute act pop star. Travelling round making a living, only one day she arrives home to find her real life heroine in her kitchen offering her the chance of a lifetime.
Told from Sallys POV, a real life swap takes place where wet England is traded for Madison Squate Gardens, Texas and so much more. Thrown into fame, paparazzi and everything that comes with the life of a mega pop star. But at the end of the swap what do both women really desire?
The chapters went by quickly, so many characters but they brought the story to life. A fun, light quirky read that was hard to put down!
This book started out strong for me, but ending up being a "did not finish" because it couldn't hold my attention and I just didn't connect with the story.
I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
This has been on my NetGalley shelf for over a year, and I still haven’t picked it up. I've tried, but it just isn't for me (right now). I hope other people enjoy it more than I did.
An enjoyable read, nice characters, lovely story and told with feeling, it’s funny and a great life swap story
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This wasn't for me. I couldn't get into it - I think it's a me problem as this type of book is usually my thing! I'll attempt to pick up again in the future.
Sally has made a living as a tribute actor (NOT impersonator!) of the famous pop superstar, Epiphanie. One night, Sally is whisked off the stage to meet with the real Ephiphanie who offers her a chance to change lives for two weeks. Ephiphanie is seeking an escape from her fame and the attention it brings, and Sally's only heart's desire is a child. The money she would get from Ephiphanie's offer would help with Sally's and her husband's fertility issues and offer them a chance at a viable pregnancy and child.
I had thought this would be a grown-up version of Mary Rodger's "Freaky Friday," but was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed the unique storyline. There were many moments of humor, but the strong emotion of the characters reacting to the hard parts of life made this a much more solid story than other "trading lives" books. Great beach read, and especially recommended for readers who enjoy books set in the U.K.
We have always wanted to do a Lizzy McGuire themed switch but this book has gone from Lizzy Maguire to Dolly Parton drag competition switch. When an interest tribute singer from England is spotted by an international singer what could go wrong if they switched places? What would happen if they switched back?
I found this book really hard to get into and by the end I was relieved that it was over. This is perfect for a person who likes a conspiracy that could be found in OK magazine, though the ending seemed bittersweet I think the majority of the characters started to accept the repercussions of their choices.
Such a cute read. Lighthearted and heartwarming. I loved the storyline, the character development! Very well-written and looking forward to reading more from this author.
I love Beth Miller's writing style. Always honest and witty. All her books are so different from each other in subject matter. Funny and wise. Great escapism!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A great story with strong characters and a good plot. Some parts seem a little far-fetched but that doesn’t take anything away from the enjoyment of the story. A lovely, light-hearted read.
This was a cute story and just the light and heart warming change of pace I needed. I enjoyed the different points of view and the overall plot. There were some plot points that were a bit unbelievable, but still fun!
Thanks @netgalley for the arc!
Sally Marshall is just your ordinary suburban woman, who gets by performing as a tribute act to a pop star (Epiphanie, even more famous than Beyonce). Until she is asked by the real Epiphanie to do a life swap for a couple of weeks. Epiphanie trades Madison Square Gardens for doing gigs in pubs. Sally is catapulted from suburban semi life to double for a mega-star, her life turned upside down. But which life will they each choose in the end?
This book had a very fun plot! I liked how Sally got a glimpse of Epiphanie's glamorous lifestyle. It was fun, while also being realistic. It showed some of the downsides to being in the spotlight. This book was funny, quirky and well written. The side characters were lots of fun to follow and they definitely added to the story. Toward the end of the book, I felt the story dragged a little bit, however, I did enjoy the ending. Everything was resolved and there were no loose ends.
Overall, this was fun, quick and easy read with some life lessons as well.
I wasn’t sure about this book when I requested it, but it was a lot of fun! The characters were really interesting, especially the people that surround Epiphanie. Sally was a fantastic character who threw herself playing a role without losing herself in the process. The descriptions of the tour were fascinating, imagine singing in front of 80K fans!
From the publisher: Sally Marshall is just your ordinary suburban woman, who gets by performing as a tribute act to a pop star (Epiphanie, even more famous than Beyonce). She, along with dozens of others. Until one day she is asked by the real Epiphanie to do a life swap for a couple of weeks. Epiphanie trades Madison Square Gardens for doing gigs in pubs. Sally is catapulted from suburban semi life to double for a mega-star, her life turned upside down. But which life will they each choose in the end? Laugh-out-loud and unputdownable, Starstruck will leave you feeling warmer about all the different lives we choose.
I highly recommend this book, I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. 4 stars.
My goodness what a book. Such a hilarious and not want to put down till the last page read
I loved every single page. So enough sappiness. Let's discuss this book. First i loved the characters every single one of them and i was rooting for them. I'm so glad they got their happily ever after. It was amazing reading what it was like being a tribute to a star. Never heard of it so reading all about was really amazing and so cool.
I really loved this book if you didn't know already and would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for something romantic and a good laugh.
This book is amazing. It has a very unique plot that I have never seen before. I personally loved the main character and her internal wars with herself. This book also has amazing representation in it. The plot in this book was impeccable. This is the first Beth Miller book that I have read but I will be reading more.
I almost gave up on this story. The first three chapters were so repetitive but once they got into the swap, the story really took off. The characters, even the somewhat annoying ones, were lovable and fun. The writing was witty and had me laughing out loud in places. I enjoyed this story so much. It was a quick, easy, read that I would recommend for the perfect escape from every day (or hurricane days with no power).
A modern twist on the Prince and the Pauper. If you could trade places with your doppelgänger wouldn’t you. Sally does just that and doesn’t look back. At least to start. It’s all the things you’ve surrendered to the daydream. Lavish everything all the time. And as the clock begins to stick like a clarion bell, our two women have hard truths to decide.
Shear madness! This is a quick read good for a little fun and a few laughs. It was a welcome change to read this in these difficult times.
This was a funny, fast paced and easy reading. I loved the characters and the story was cute. I loved reading about a person who gives tribute and is chosen to swap the places and how it will impact her life but others as well.. I've never read any other books written by Beth Miller but I am sure now I will be looking for the other books written by her.
