This is book#2 of a series so we have to read "Coming Home to Penvennan Cove" to understand this. Looks like there is going to be another installment (most likely the final).
I usually avoid such 'cliffhanger' books in romance. If they 'not so lengthy', I try and give it a go.
I made up my mind to read this one - so I dutifully read the book#1 first.
The writing and the story line were good but in spite of interesting bits, both the books felt a bit dragged out and the reader might get bored.
Right now, my feelings on these two books are all over and am not sure if I would want to read the third book. But definitely will try out another book of this author which is not part of a series.
This was a decent read but not one I'll likely remember never year.. I didn't register to any of the characters
Had I realized this author also wrote as Lucy Coleman I probably would not have picked this book up. I just find the writing style so slow and boring. The more interesting storylines are given only the briefest mentions while Kerra's story is given way more time than it deserves. I understand that she is supposed to be the primary character, but there's just not much to her. Her biggest problem in life is that her she's dating a man who her father will not approve - and of course it all comes out exactly as expected and makes you really dislike her father. Her life is kind of annoyingly perfect - she's wealthy, every job decision she makes goes well for her, she's surrounded by friends and support, and is dating a pretty great guy. I was far more interested in what was going on in the Felicity/Drew and Alice/Ian, but there was so little with them. The other problem with this book is the pacing - parts are mind-numbingly boring and others make you glad you didn't give up on the book. To be clear, I did not hate this book at all, I just thought it could have been so much better. I'd rate it somewhere between 2.5 and 3 stars.
Loved catching up with the people of Penvennen Cove in this sequel, great characters, nice little storyline. Can’t wait for the next book in the series
Thank you to NetGalley and Aria Fiction for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of Making Waves at Penvennan Cove by Linn B. Halton.
Kerra Shaw has recently returned from London to her home village in Cornwall, following the death of her mother and as a support to her father. Kerra is a successful businesswoman and is hoping to invest and support small businesses in the community, whilst maintaining her currently secret relationship with Ross. Only a handful of people know about their relationship, and until the feud between their families ends, Kerra would like it to remain a secret, but this is Penvannan and nothing stays a secret for long.
This is the second book in the series, which I didn’t realise at first and although other reviewers have mentioned that it shouldn’t be read as a stand-alone, I’m not sure it really matters, I found the book very slow, to begin with, and not much seemed to happen for at least the first third of the book and I did even consider not finishing it. However, don’t let that put you off. For the rest of the book, I was hooked, and I keenly turned the pages to discover what was going to happen next in Penvennan Cove.
The author was adept with her descriptions of the Cornish village life, with its fishermen’s cottages and quirky village characters. There were many times when Kerra popped into the village bakery and my mouth watered at the mention of the delicious cakes!
This is the first book I have read by Linn B. Halton but I am looking forward to reading more. If you love a happy-ever-after story, set in a cosy, English, seaside village, then you’ll enjoy Making Waves at Penvennan Cove.
I loved the first novel in this series and this follow up certainly didn’t disappoint. I loved catching up with all the characters from the first book and getting thrown back into the village life portrayed in the story. I feel the book really portrays the gossipy nature of village life perfectly! I think if I hadn’t have read the first book I would have been very confused at times, even though I had read it I had to remind myself of the ins and outs of the first book plot at first as it was a while ago when I read it but I absolutely recommend this series if you love a good lighthearted romance story set in a gorgeous seaside setting. Perfect escapism.
I have to admit I did struggle a little at first with this book as I hadn’t read book one in the series, Coming Home to Penvennan Cove, however I found myself falling in love with this community of people living in a small Cornish cove. As a newcomer to the series I was making friends with the characters and I soon became engrosssed in their lives and found myself enjoying this delightful storyline.
Kerra Shaw is starting to feel settled back in her home town in Cornwall. Her IT skills and entrepreneurial mindset are proving very useful. Although Kerra has left the bright lights of London some locals think she may still have her sights set on returning and her business mind may be still linked to the city. So a few feathers become ruffled by the opportunities she sees in front of her. Her personal life is also causing some controversy and Kerra has a hard job convincing locals about many aspects in her life.
With the authors descriptive words on the setting and her great cast of characters I now feel invested in Penvennan Cove so I am eagerly awaiting book 3 in the series.
Penvennan Cove in a community spirited story with a wonderful setting along the Cornish coast. It has the usual highs and lows of family life that never seems to run smoothly. An uplifting, heart-warming story that is perfect to escape with.
This is the second book I read in this series and thoroughly enjoyed.
It made me smile, root for the characters and loved the setting and the descriptions.
The plot kept me reading, compelling and enjoyable.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
MAKING WAVES AT PENVENNAN COVE by LIN B. HALTON.
This is book 2 in the Penvennan Cove series, and follows on from Coming Home To Penvennan Cove. Although it can be read as a stand alone book, it is advisable to read the series in order.
Kerra’s life is going well. She loves her job, she’s close to the people she loves the most and she finally has Ross, her childhood sweetheart.
Of course it wouldn’t be much of a story if everything was going too smoothly. There are secrets and family feuds to overcome.
In a busy place like Penvennan Cove, there are eyes and ears everywhere, so nothing stays a secret for long.
I enjoyed this book. It has a lovely setting and some interesting characters.
I’d definitely recommend reading book one in the series first, as it will set the scene ready to read and enjoy book two.
If you enjoy a romance set by the sea, this will be just your thing.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Unfortunately 15% of the way into this book I decided not to continue reading it. The way the plot was written wasn’t to my taste and wasn’t overly engaging.
I found this to be a pleasant novel with some nice characters. I hadn’t read the first book in the series and was unaware this was part of a series so perhaps that detracted from the book somewhat for me. There are a lot of characters and no return to their back stories so you really need to read the first book to fully understand what’s going on. It was enjoyable but I’m not sure I’d be in a rush to read the next book. Thank you to NetGalley, Aria and Aries and the author for the chance to review.
Lovely festive feel good book! The storyline and characters are so relatable! Sit back with a cup of hot chocolate and relax with this beautiful story.
When I received an email with an offer to read this book I requested it as I liked the blurp. What I didn't know, was that this is book 2 in the Penvennan Cove-series. This slightly affected my reading experience, as I felt I missed out on a bit of story building and introductions of the characters and their shared history.
Set in a small Cornish village, Kerra and Ross are trying to keep their blooming romance a secret from their fueding fathers. But in a village where everyone knows everyone, secrets do not stay hidden long.
Unfortunately, because it is the second book in a series I can not recommend reading it as a stand-alone. But as I loved Linn B. Halton's writing I will go back and read book one: 'Coming Home to Penvennan Cove'.
Thank you NetGalley and Aria & Aries for my ARC in return for my honest opinion.
This is the second in the Penvennan Cove series but is the first that I have read (it's fine to jump in at Book 2). The work of Linn B Halton is new to me but I really enjoyed this book and she perfectly captured the politics of life in a small town/village and how rumours can spread so fast and impact lives.
Without revealing any spoilers it looks like there will be another book in the series which is great news and I look forward to reading it if and when it is released.
I wish I had known, Making Waves at Penvennan Cove is the second book in a series. Having that knowledge would have answered a lot of questions -- like who's who, and how did Ross and Kerra end up together.
Most of my time reading the book was spent backtracking to figure out who the characters are and the backstory behind each of them. Not a pleasant experience. Im' sure that if I read the first book, I would have a different opinion. But for now, it is a single star read -- I didn't like it.
I received a digital ARC from Aria & Aries through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
Kerra and Ross would be having the time of their lives except that they feel they have to hide their relationship from everyone in their small Cornish village because their fathers hate one another. Geez. I missed the first book which left me a bit at sea in this sequel. That said, it was the set up I found annoying (suck it up dads!) I l love a good Cornish setting and the main characters- Ross and Kerra- are well done. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
Beautiful descriptions of Cornwall and talented writing from the author. However, this was the second book in a series and you MUST read the first book in order to understand the second. I felt lost in the beginning, especially meeting so many characters, but I finally found my groove and sped through the book.
Thanks to Aria & Aries and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a review.
I hadn't realised that this is the second book in a series and felt a little lost when I first started. I've read a few books where it's not the first in a series and been fine with them but not with this one I'm afraid and it's a DNF for me. I may seek out the first in the series and come back to this one.
Sorry.
A gentle light read with plenty to keep the reader involved. I did wonder at first as I didn't realise initially that this is the second book in a series so I was floundering to start with with too many characters alluding to previous storylines. However, I soon became involved in what was going on in a small Cornish coastal village full of gossip and misunderstandings plus the odd feud. I understand there is a third book in this series so it will be interesting to see what happens next but I think if the first book had been read then this book would have made a lot more sense! Some books do stand alone in their series but this one I felt didn't.
This is the second book in the Penvennan Cove series. I enjoyed the first - Return to Penvennan Cove - so was interested to see how events had moved on from where we left the folk in this small Cornish community. As for book one, the story is written from central character Kerra's point of view. However, I have to confess I did not enjoy this as much as the first book. There was lots going on in Penvennan Cove and quite a few characters to become acquainted and re-acquainted with, which slowed the reading for a while. One thing I could not get my head around was the fact that 30 year old Kerra and her childhood crush Ross were conducting their love affair in secret because of a family feud. It simply didn't work for me. This is book two of a three book series and I'm hoping the final instalment will see me back on track and enjoying the read.
My thanks to Netgalley, Aria and Linn B Halton for an ARC of Making Waves at Penvennan Cove in exchange for an honest review.
