Solid installment in this fun series from McKinlay. While romance is nice, I actually sometimes prefer when the main characters are settled into a solid relationship and can focus on the fun of the plot, as is the case for Lindsey and Sully.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book via NetGalley--all opinions are my own!
The next mystery in Jenn McKinlay's Library Lover's mystery series does not disappoint! You will be guessing whodunit right through to the end. McKinlay's clever storyline and endearing, electic characters are always entertaining. You will feel like you are right there with librarian Lindsay, Captain Sully, and the rest of the gang as you enjoy the picturesque landscape of Briar Creek.
I would say that this is one of the better books in the series, and I loved the fact Jenn McKinlay centered it around Ms. Cole, affectionally known as the lemon. A permeant fixture within the Library Lover’s series, but one the reader didn’t know too much about. It turns out that there is warmth in those unyielding veins, and when she is accused of murder and is also running for mayor of Briar Creek, shenanigans are bound to take center stage. And when it comes to whom was responsible for the murder, I didn’t see that one coming. There might have been clues along the way, but I missed them, which in my opinion, always makes a book more enjoyable.
Great town to visit with good characters. Ms. Cole really shines in this one. It is good to get her back story and show why she was such a lemon. Lindsey and Sully are a great team. The mystery kept me guessing.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
There is a lot I love about this cozy series, and so much of it is highlighted in this book. One: this is one of the few cozy series in which library work seems to be accurately depicted (no gross violations of patron privacy, and in particular library director Lindsey is very cognizant of keeping political activity outside of work hours). Two: character development! While we've certainly seen Ms. Cole's evolution throughout the series, it was wonderful to see her really get a book in which she shines. This is a very solid addition to the series.
Love, love, ,love this series! It’s one of the few that I hope continues on for a long time. A great, quick, and entertaining read. Wouldn’t be a match in my high school library, but I loved it.
I really enjoyed this latest Library Lover’s mystery. Lindsey, Sully, Heathcliff, and friends, are on the case when Ms.Cole finds a body of a long-ago ex in her trunk. Killer Research gives a broader portrait of the town than previous books in the series, with more time spent outside of the library.
It’s really intriguing to learn more about Ms.Cole’s past in this one. She hadn’t seen her ex in 40 years so how did he wind up in her trunk? Was he coming to see her or was he in town for other reasons? The crafternooners find him when they go to get some of her mayoral campaign signs and find him instead.
Continuing themes from previous books, the current mayor continues to show him losing won’t be a loss, by going after Ms.Cole every chance he can get to get her out of his way. The politics of running while working in a public service job where your opponent could fight to have you suspended are a lot. I appreciated the realistic portrayal of this.
I found the mystery to be really satisfying and enjoyed my latest stint as an armchair detective while the clues unravelled in different directions. McKinley has written another winner.
I have to say, I also really appreciate the childfree representation of Lindsey and Sully. It’s nice to see a happy couple who are not having kids, and there’s definitely a shortage of representation in books.
After a long winter, the residents of Briar Creek are enjoying the return of spring. With the upcoming race for mayor starting to ratchet up, a body found in the trunk of a car belonging to one of the candidates makes everyone wonder who is responsible – and who the victim is. When his identity becomes known, things get really heated and Lindsey, Sully and the rest are determined to figure out who is trying to frame Ms. Cole … and why.
Book #12 of the Library Lovers series is every bit as entertaining as the previous books. With every book, I feel like I'm visiting old friends in a favorite location, and I would love to join in on one of their Crafternoon sessions. I like the way the characters have grown and relationships have developed over the course of the series, and I've come to like some of the folks I initially didn't care for.
As usual, the mystery was well-done, with several suspects to choose from, but I was totally surprised when the killer's identity was revealed. I've heard rumors that this is the last book in the series, but I hope that's not true. There are several story lines left hanging and I want to know how they work out!
I was so wrong in who I thought was the murderer in this book. I usually can figure it out about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through of most cozies I read, but I missed the key piece of evidence this time. Jenn never disappoints! I really enjoy the Library Lover's series.
"Killer Research" is a cozy mystery. It's the 12th in a series. You don't need to read the previous books to understand this one, and this book didn't spoil the whodunits of the previous mysteries.
The main characters were likable and interesting. The mystery was mixed into Ms. Cole's campaign efforts, and she shines amid the difficulties. This was a clue-based mystery that can be guessed before the end. Lindsey asked good questions and kept an eye out to spot clues. There were hints at whodunit with the critical clue near the end, after which Lindsey realized whodunit. I was pretty sure of whodunit from the hints, but I wasn't certain until that same critical clue. There were no sex scenes. There was one use of bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable novel.
Spring is livening up Briar Creek after a long, cold winter, and newlyweds Lindsey and Sully could not be happier. Even though the upcoming mayoral election is getting heated, everything else in town is coming up daffodils...until a body is found. Ms. Cole, a librarian and current candidate for town mayor, is shocked when she opens her trunk to discover a murder victim who just so happens to be a guy she dated forty years ago and the founder of the baking empire Nana's Cookies. A batch of rumors begins to circulate about Ms. Cole's rebellious youth, which threatens to ruin her life and her budding political career. But Ms. Cole is tough and will not go down without a fight. It is up to Lindsey, Sully, and the rest of the crafternoon pals to figure out who is trying to frame Ms. Cole for murder and why.
I have read the previous 11 books in this series, and they just get better with each new volume. This story gives us more insight into the background of Ms. Cole who is a major focus in the story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this new book in one of my favority series.
This is one of my favorite series. As a librarian, I love reading about another library (even if it's fictional). The characters are great and I love how they have grown throughout the series (especially Ms. Cole). The setting is great and the mystery keeps your attention until the reveal. I look forward to reading more in this series!
This is the latest entry in a well-established enjoyable cozy series featuring librarian Lindsey and her husband boat captain Sully. Life is good in their small coastal community except for the tension surrounding an upcoming election. One of Lindsey's library staff, Ms. Cole, is challenging the incumbent mayor and things are getting nasty. When a dead body turns up in Ms. Cole's car, the accusations start flying.
And when it is discovered that the victim is none other than Ms. Cole's ex-fiance from 40 years ago, things don't look good. This is a good mystery, and the ensemble cast of library folks and townspeople is well-drawn and fun to spend time with. Thanks to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I love everything this author writes.. This time Ms Cole is being framed for murder as she is running for mayor. Is the mayor behind it?
Killer research was a fabulous read. I have read the others in the series and loved how this one picked up right where the others left off. It was like coming back and hanging out with my old friends. I love books the make me feel happy and this one certainly didn't disappoint.
I always enjoy returning to Briar Creek to spend time with it's quirky cast of local residents. I appreciate the development Ms. Cole has had throughout the series and even in this book. I did figure out the mystery about halfway through, but it was still a fun, light read.
The mayor’s race is heating up and as always, there’s a murderer in Briar Creek. It’s good to see the gang again and the crime solving continues as Lindsay, Sully, and Robbie try to help Chief Emma figure out who’s dead and who’s trying to sabotage Ms. Cole. If you love this series, you’re in for a treat.
Killer Research by Jenn McKinlay is another fun addition to the Library Lovers series. The characters in this series are always a joy to revisit.
As a huge fan of this series, I'm always excited when I see a new one pop up on NetGalley! I thoroughly enjoyed this one, as it centered on Ms. Cole and her backstory while she runs for town mayor (she's got my vote!) Bonus points for keeping me guessing and totally surprising me with the culprit at the end ;-)
I’m a fan of Jenn McKinlay, yet this is the first book I’ve read in this particular series. Although it is book 12, I found it easy to follow and enjoy without prior knowledge of any of the characters. A fast read with likable characters and a good mystery.
I appreciated this advance copy from NetGalley!
