Ahhhhh this was just such a great read. I just didn't want this book to end and I was sad to turn the last page. I'm so excited to see what's next from this author.
A scorchin enemies to lovers story where the stakes are high, the attraction is undeniable, and the consequences could be deadly. An undercover assignment with your enemy at work isn't too bad until you have to pretend to be engaged.
Eden Brixton and Marc Swain will discover that pretending to be engaged is a challenge when you develop feelings you can't deny. How deep undercover will they go to pull off their assignment and solve the case?
Who will survive the end game? Can they survive the small town con?
Undercover Engagement is the story of Marc and Eden who have sexual tension simmering between them right from the first page. They're both officers who are assigned a case in which they have to go undercover, posing as an engaged couple. I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down. The chemistry between Marc and Eden was off the charts and I loved the way their relationship transitioned from disdain - at least on Eden's part - to love and understanding. The storyline was gripping and I enjoyed every page of it, including the delicious banter.
This is a very close to 4 star rating but there are definitely some things that I didn't care for. Overall, the chemistry is FANTASTIC. I really love a hate-to-love trope and this was well done. It follows two fresh police academy graduates on their first assignment which happens to be an undercover drug bust in a small town setting. Eden is very by-the-book, perfectionist and Marc is trouble but in the best way. He's charming and gets under Eden's skin. The two have a rivalry throughout basic training and now they get to pretend to be engaged for their cover.
I don't really find the undercover bit super believable...especially in a small town setting. These two laid it on thick and there is no way people could be that gullible. I didn't like the leading on of two characters by Eden, that rubbed me the wrong way. The jealousy of Marc was a little much at times and seemed constant. I don't really get the purpose of making Eden biracial and it came off disingenuous at times where her race only was there for looks (it's the only time it's ever mentioned). I also absolutely abhor how the undercover operation wrapped up. That was definitely not believable at all. No way would the beans be spilled like that. This is definitely a suspend your belief type read and there is nothing wrong with that. I just tend to be pretty picky about it.
I think I would read another Samanthe Beck book because her writing is great and the romance was well done. I just don't think the police/weed bust worked for me in particular as much. Not my cup of tea.
If you are looking for:
- enemies to lovers
- small town
- forced proximity
- fake dating
- lot of steam
....look no further. This book is part of a series and I read it as a stand alone. I enjoyed seeing the character development with Eden and Swain and the side characters.
Thank you to the publisher for a copy of this book.
Marc and Eden--police academy enemies are put together on an undercover operative right after academy. These two now have to fake being engaged which is hard for two people who do not get along. But that is just the chemistry talking. Soon, these two are enemies to lovers but the operative is soon coming to a close. How much is real and how much do they actually like each other?
I loved their story but I never quite understand how people can like someone and continue to pick silly fights with them in so many books. Also, what I couldn't get over is how implausible the undercover part was. They were undercover in their own police districts, using their real first or last names and their regular cars? Come on. That would never happen and that is the part I got stuck on. I get it is fiction but it needs to at least be believable. Anyway, Swain turned out to be a heartthrob so there is that.
If you love a good enemies to lovers, fake relationship romance with some good steam then this is the book for you!!
I’d rate it 3.5 stars, but I round up versus down. It was a fun undercover cop scenario and the side characters are a lot of fun. I haven’t read any of the others in the series but I didn’t have any issues with that.
Thank you to netgalley and entangled publishing for my copy in exchange for my honest opinion
Undercover Engagement definetly takes the reader on a sexy adventure. Samanthe Beck is a top notch romance writer with the right elements of steam for her readers. This book did not disappoint.
I enjoyed this sexy romance book! Samantha Beck's writing never disappoints and I always find myself enjoying her books.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a pretty sexy book with characters that have Uber chemistry!!! I enjoyed the couple and the storyline.
Very sexy but not much more than that- which is fine, usually but lately the books I’ve read are delivering across the board that when I find a sexy book with no teeth it sticks out a bit. Not a bad read at all, but I did want a little more from it.
This was a very sexy book with a hot romance! I enjoy Samantha Beck's writing, her books never disappoint!
Undercover Engagement by author Samantha Beck is another outstanding story in the Private Pleasures series. The characters of Eden and Marc were unmistakably well paired with chemistry that was off the charts. Disappearing into the author’s story window proved easy where the reader gets a first class view of events and antics that are set against the backdrop of small town Bluelick and hold more than a few surprises. An enjoyable read from start to finish, Undercover Engagement by Samantha Beck is another stellar read as the characters of Eden and Marc steal your attention and your heart for all the right reasons.

This one wasn't really for me, didn't finish it. Would probably be a great read for others though as it is well written, and very typical of the genre.
Undercover Engagement is the fifth book in the Private Pleasures series. It was the first book I have read by this author, and I found it to be an interesting book. It was an enemy to lovers and a fake relationship story which is one of my favorite types of books. Add in the main characters being undercover cops and it just made it better. The witty banter between Eden and Swain as they pretend to be engaged and infiltrate a drug ring was comical. Eden was a straight-by-the-book cop and Swain was more a fly-by-your-pants type of cop. I loved seeing their understanding of each other grow as their relationship grew. It was certainly a fun and tension-filled romance.
A good story about a couple who are not a couple. The dialogue moved the story along quite quickly. Really enjoyed
Eden is set to join the department but she has to go undercover to find out about the drugs being imported into the town. Marcus is working with Eden as her fiancée and they don't get along. Marcus is attracted to Eden but she can't stand him. Will the two be able to complete their mission? Can the attraction between them become so much more?
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
This was a fun, hot read that I enjoyed very much. It is part of a series but can easily be read as a stand alone.
This was a fun contemporary romance book with a relationship between two recent police academy graduates who are thrown together to work an undercover case. Eden Brixton graduated top of her class and is annoyed to find herself having to pretend to be engaged to her in-class rival, Marcus Swain. The two barely managed to get through their training together and now have to learn to tolerate, learn from and lean on each other while investigating a drug ring in the town.
I haven't read any other books in the Private Pleasures series, but this one was quite enjoyable, it not always believable. For those who enjoy an enemies to lovers and fake dating plot, this is probably enough to get you through this story. And if that doesn't work for you, this has a very low-angst plot.
This was a quick, steamy read, with a fun romantic suspense plot, and lots of cameos from other characters in the series.
Super sexy enemies to lovers/work romance. I loved the hero in this one. I also appreciated how strong the heroine was. I think I enjoyed most, the vulnerability that both the H and h expressed. No one, even the toughest amongst us, has it all figured out, with confidence boxing on all fronts. They genuinely needed each other. That needing made them more relatable. This one is easy to recommend.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
