This is a work of fiction, as it states clearly, but many of the characters included in this story were real people whose stories are shared through the creativity of Heather Morris.

As this story begins, it is June of 1929 and the setting is Vranov nad Topl’ou in Slovakia where three sisters, Cibi, Magda and Livi are sitting in their backyard with their father. Livi is only three years old - the wild one, Cibi is the oldest at seven and has a fiery temper, and Magda is five, the beautiful and gentle one. He knows he will be having a surgery the next day, and wants them to promise him one thing, a promise that they will always take care of each other, no matter what happens. It is a promise that they will never forget, and perhaps be the thing that both unites them, and ultimately saves them.

Years pass, and Livi is now 15, and has been ordered to Auschwitz, Cibi will follow her. Magda hides, but is eventually discovered, and the three sisters will be reunited in a place where death and horrifying conditions are all around. Though traumatised by their experiences, they are together. When one begins to falter, the others are there to protect her, to nurse her back to health, or to remind her of their promise. They must find a way to endure the nightmare, the horrifying conditions, the sickness, watching others being forced to walk to their death.

We all know that the stories of the holocaust are horrifying. This story does include some moments sharing a brief glimpse of the horrors to come, but this is mainly the story of those who survived, based on the real stories that were shared with the author. What gave them the incentive, the courage to have hope, to believe that there was reason for hope even when the circumstances offered them no obvious reasons to continue to believe - in this case, it was the promise they made to their father.

Hope is the promise of tomorrow.

Three Sisters by Heather Morris is touted as the third book in The Tattooist of Auschwitz series. The first two were a little more entwined but this one could be read as a stand-alone book. There may be cameo appearances from the other books but not a major part of the story.

I did enjoy all three books in this series. Three Sisters shows the bond of sisters and resilience of people. We all know horrid things happened in the concentration camps. This book shows how the human spirit can come back to life and thrive after so much sorrow and loss. The book also taught me about how some Jewish people relocated to Israel after the camps to start a new life. I have read my fair share of WWII books and this is the first I have read that talked about a life in Israel which provided an interesting perspective of history.

This book is wonderful! This is the true story of 3 sisters, Cibi, Magda and Livi, who made a promise to their father before he died that they will always protect one another. Years later, when all three were reunited in Auschwitz, this promise would be put to the test again and again. Will they be able to survive the cruelty, heartbreak, near starvation and so damn much more!?

Three Sisters moves along at a good pace and then you get to the end of the story to the Epilogue, Author's Note and the Afterword. I am gutted! God bless the author's that can tell these stories and more importantly, God bless those that were not able to survive and those that did.

EDIT to add: This could be a stand alone and I would not say that it is book 3 of a 3 book set. The two previous book characters were only mentioned once throughout the course of this book and it really didn't need to be there for this story.

Three Sisters, the latest book from Heather Morris, is a deeply moving, heartbreaking yet inspiring story of survival, courage and love. Livi and Cibi end up in Auschwitz. as the result of the random takings of Jewish youth as laborers in their factories and labor camps. Years later Magda reunites with them in Auschwitz.. The book follows the stories of all 3 from the beginning of the Nazi occupation through liberation and the end of the war. Wonderful historical notes at the end (often my favorite part, as I want to know more!) give us an update on the three women and their families. Truly an inspiring story, well worth the read!

Heather Morris worked with the family of three sisters (Cibi, Magda, and Livi) to retell the story of the sisters’ survival. The book begins with the young sisters making a promise to their father to always stay together. It was that promise that saved their lives, and got them through their darkest days. The journey each sister takes is interesting and heartbreaking. I found myself in awe of their resiliency and tenacity. While there’s a great deal of suffering depicted in the story, it’s not as hard core as other Holocaust stories I’ve read, which makes it more appealing to me. I haven’t been able to make it through those types of books. I learned a great deal by viewing the years through the sisters’ eyes and appreciate the willingness for the characters to share their stories with Morris.

I really enjoyed reading through the many Afterward pieces from the family members of the sisters; and as Morris writes about life after Auschwitz, I found myself thinking about things I hadn’t before (survivor guilt, continued racism, etc.). This series is one of my favorite pieces of historical fiction and I look forward to reading what’s next from Morris.

May I say that I have read BOTH of Heather Morris' books; The Tattooist of Auschwitz and Cilka's Journey. I loved them both! I find it incredible that this woman can bring the heinous acts to life so vividly in your mind! She is a first rate author for sure!

While reading the Three Sisters, my emotions were everywhere! So, let me tell you a little bit about this incredible journey of strength, survival and heroism....

This is the story of Cibi, Magda and Livi. Three sisters that made a pact to their father at the ages of seven, five and three, that they would forever be together and look out for one another. Pretty big promise for three little girls. With war looming, this pact/promise was made even more difficult....the Natzi's were bearing down and this family was Jewish. That is all I am going to say about this incredible book...because unlike Heather Morris, I can't even imagine writing a smidge of what she did without bursting into tears with every paragraph of evil. There is SO MUCH to this book that will make you laugh, cry and question your complaints... I DO NOT WANT TO GIVE ANYTHING AWAY (I went into it with only the information I have given you!)!!!

The book is simply...AMAZING! Amazing writing (as we all have come to know and love Ms. Morris' writings of Auschwitz as a sorrowful, yet roar of injustice), she gives incredible detail..which leaves your heart and soul raw and devastated!

The sisters story though is what will leave you breathless! The mere fact that the THREE of them survived and lived to tell their story (AND fulfill their pact/promise) is nothing short of a miracle! Of course they had (what is now known as) PTSD, depression, triggers to trauma...but they moved on to LIVE their life and lived it well.

This is a story NOT TO BE MISSED! I'm sure that if you are a Historical Fiction fan...this will be your most ANTICIPATED read of 2021 (it comes out October 5th)! Mark your calendars!!!

These three sisters, Cibi, Livi and Magda make a promise to their father that no matter what, they will take care of each other. When Cibi is ordered to work a Holocaust camp Livi goes with her, as she promised her dad. It is not long before Magda is also forced to work the camp.
A incredibly heartbreaking book about these three sisters, their bond , their love and their incredible resilience to survive at all costs.
While this is a tough subject to read, the author did a wonderful job with these characters and the subject line.
I loved the personal letters at the end of the book… again showing the amazing resiliency of the power of love!

Heather Morris did it again. I read Three Sisters in less than 24 hours and I was just as captivated as when I read the Tattooist of Auschwitz and Cilka’s Journey. The story follows the lives of the three Meller girls both during the Holocaust and after in Israel and is the story of heartbreak, hope, and a promise to protect family no matter the cost. I really enjoyed the authors note of how the story came to be and the glimpses of characters from previous books. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book.

Another wonderful storytelling of a hard subject. I appreciate the story continuing after the Three Sisters find their liberation. What remarkable women and the impact they have had on their families. May we all have their determination to overcome. Thank you for sharing this story with us.

Three sisters and their journey through so much, from concentration camps to the death march. Knowing that these women are real and that this story is actually their story is heartbreaking and awe inspiring. A promise to stay together and their love and devotion to each other. If you loved Heather Morris’ other books you will love this one as well.

Three Sisters, by Heather Morris, is an incredibly written and remarkable account, of three sisters and their captivity in Auschwitz. A brilliantly detailed and heart wrenching depiction of life within the concentration camps and what was needed to survive……being savvy, being lucky or just not being chosen to be one to die at the hands of the monsters. I don't want to add any spoilers. Read this difficult to believe and extraordinary book of determination, solidarity of family, the will to survive and the brutal inhumanity by some upon defenseless and innocent people. This is the 3rd is a series, if you can call it a series. They are all loosely tied together by the the fact the subject of them were all in Auschwitz together. There are some very brief interactions between the characters. As with the other stories, this is based on the true stories of three sisters.

When the girls were young, they made a promise to their father that they would always stay together. Cibi and Livia were sent to Auschwitz. Magda was able to avoid going for a while but eventually she was sent there as well. The girls were able to stay together and support each other before they were liberated. Their story was so heartbreaking

Once free, the went back to Slovakia but soon felt they weren't welcome there. They soon immigrated to Israel. They made their lives there and survived as a family.

I think one of the best parts of the book was the notes at the end. The author provided updates on all of the people.

A promise to their father to always stay together. A will to survive.

The family has 3 daughters. One in the hospital, one young enough to escape the clutch of the Nazis
and one a part of the Zionist youth movement. In the end, none of it is enough to avoid capture.

"You have our orders--your daughter's name will be on the list of girls to be transported." The two Hlinka Guards bring the orders to the family's door. The rumors of guards beginning to round up young Jewish girls and boys to work for the Germans are starting to circulate the town.

The descriptions, the recounting of events and the horrors of the death camps made this an emotional journey and I felt their despair and heartache. They never forget the promise they made to stay together.

The Author's note at the end is very moving. She tells us what happened to each family member after the war ended. She also includes afterwords from the sister Livia, and other family. They supported Heather in telling their story even though it was such an emotional rollercoaster reliving the evil period that they endured.

This is the third in the series The Tattooist of Auschwitz. I've read all of them. Each book tells individual stories based on true survivors and events in history. The sisters courage and unwavering love for one another was so very inspiring. I'm truly thankful that I was able to hear their story through Heather's novel.

Recommend to fans of Historical Fiction, WWII survival and anyone who wants to learn about these amazing sisters.

The girls are 3, 5, and 7 years old at the beginning. Life there is changing. The Nazi’s are making life harder and harder for the Jews living in the area. A fee years pass and we follow first 2 of the sisters and later the third sister through the gate with the now famous words, ARBEIT MACHT FREI (Work Sets You Free) into the concentration camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Conditions are unimaginable! Can they survive? Do they have a future? Where would they go?
If you want to understand what has happened to so many and what life was like you must read Three Sisters. Ms Morris writes a chilling and frightening account.

I appreciate Heather Morris taking the time to write the story of these three sisters. I know it falls into the historical fiction genre but I would also put it into the category of biography as much if it is from the sisters retelling their incredible story. One part that I haven't read much about is survivor's lives after the war was over. The last part of this book was dedicated to their trip back to their home, what they found, and how they formed new lives for themselves. Anytime I read a bit about cleaning up the aftermath of WWII, I find it mind boggling. This book went into what they experienced right after the war and how they decided to move on with their lives.

Excellent book telling the true story of the atrocities three sisters endured in Germany during WW2. This is a story of horror and real redemption, a story of the love of family. This is a book that I will read again - it is hopeful and so inspiring!

WOW, so glad I received this Kindle edition of Three Sisters. What a story these three precious ladies have as told by Heather Morris. She has done her research, spoken with families and created an exceptional book.

Three sisters endure the horror of Auschwitz; two sisters three and one half years and the other one and one half years. The amazing facts are just unbelievable as to their tenacity, commitment to one another and determination to be together as three sisters.

For those who are in a challenging place, read and gain insight into their character. For those who are history buffs and want to learn about WWII, here are some details you may or may not want to know.

For those who have family or friends that are Jewish, see what they are made of and their commitment to their faith.

For those who teach we didn't have a Holocaust, read and believe.

Too much is too much or I ruin the impact of this amazing story.

Three Sisters joins The Tattooist of Auschwitz and Cilka’s Journey in author Heather Morris’ telling of real life survivors of the Holocaust. This installment centers around sisters Cibi, Magda and Livi from Slovakia. They make a promise to their father that they will always be together and look after each other. They keep that promise. The first half of the book tells the story of the family and how they come to Auschwitz and the horrors they endure to stay alive. The second half of the book explores their lives after the concentration camps. The journey to a “normal” life brings them to Israel where many survivors have settled. We see the sisters trying to still keep their promise while also finding a new way to live in this new world after WWII. We meet their husbands and children and see them into the golden years of their lives. They kept their promise to the end.

Thank you Heather Morris and NetGalley for an ARC of Three Sisters for my review. It was a bit of a different book from the other two installments in the series, but I find myself loving these sisters and the bond they share and will think of them for a long time after the book ends.

Where do I begin. Such a well written and researched book. Three sister surviving all they did in WWII and staying together.. How hard it was forging a brand new life. This his book is just a reminder so WE NEVER FORGET?!
