This is a really sweet story about two post high-school teens taking a summer internship at a popular cooking channel in Seattle and competing for a coveted fall internship. They're both also escaping something - Benny, the expectations his family has on him to work at the family business down in California and Reese, the anxiety she still carries from being mistreated by her first boyfriend freshman year and the subsequent rumors about her.
Reese is just a little powder-keg of anxious overthinking always on the verge of erupting. Truly after my own heart. Benny a perfect (maybe a little TOO perfect) pun master. Put two gorgeous young people on an internet cooking show and it's a recipe for love and fame.
The online harassment that Reese faces is way too real, as is the way that it bubbles over into real life both with fans of their show and in the workplace. I think that will resonate a lot with teens (and adults!) in our ever expanding virtual world where people feel free to comment on every aspect of a person.
I would have liked for Benny to be more flawed and both of the main characters to be less...beautiful. I'm down for insta-love always, but it's a little on the nose when they're both basically models. Also I want more about the side characters, especially Reese's best friends. Maybe the author's second novel will be about them. Fingers crossed :)
Overall a solid, adorable love story!
The Hating Game meets the Great British Baking show. ๐ Well, maybe not GBBS, but a cooking show. And a heavy dose of feminism.
I read this book in 36 hours. It's so cute, and amazingly touching, and the story is fun and engrossing. It hits on important feminism issues that I believe most (if not all) women in the workplace can relate to. I loved it.

This book was unputdownable, that is SO not a word but what I mean to say, is that it was an INCREDIBLE read and I couldn't be asked to be detached from it.
๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ follows Reese as she navigates life in a new city, a chance at an internship she wants badly and a blossoming relationship after having been through multiple hurdles, with the same person she's competing against for her fall internship ๐.
This book DELIVERS a sugary sweet, honey coated, wholesome romance, yet Reese's strong-will and wit and Benny's cockyness, charm and cuteness certainly added character to the plot.
Although romance is a major theme of the book, it's not all - the internalised misogyny in workplaces, slut-shaming in general and the feminism or rather the lack of it (am talking about certain characters) portrayed, are very well executed and unfortunately, highly realistic (a sad reality, I'm aware).
๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ is a wonderful contemporary, with a perfect concoction of swoony romance and important thought-provoking discussions. Certainly a debut not to be missed, 5th April mark your calendars ;)
A big thanks to Delacorte Press & Netgalley for providing an advanced copy of this book, which I voluntarily read & reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you Netgalley, Random House Children's/ Delacorte Press for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This books was adorable. 4.5/5 stars. I really appreciated how it wasnโt just a typical rom-com. It had some underlying serious themes such as online harassment, misogyny, and past high school bullying. I felt that these themes help add to the depth of the story and make Reese a much more relatable character. I absolutely her and Bennyโs relationship. Their witty banter and interactions were wonderful. This book would make a great movie!
I also think the author did a great job highlighting the double standards between men and women in the workplace. While also providing readers with a fun romance filled story. I think many people can relate to what Reese has to deal with and it really makes this story more enlightening without being preachy.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. The forced proximity and almost enemies to lovers type romance was adorable. The food related puns and humor were great! If you are a fan of romance books and reality tv cooking shows then I would definitely recommend this book.

I liked this! It was so cute and honestly, Benny was the best book boyfriend. Almost too perfect! He was so sweet and supportive and willing to listen. I wish more had been done about the problematic issues throughout the book - namely the sexism in the workplace. I don't think enough was done about that, which I guess in some ways is realistic. Overall, this was a cute and easy read!
I loved this so much! Benny was the sweetest peach, and the food, and the PUNS. And the nicknames!! Most of all, though, I think teens especially will relate to Reese's struggle with trolls, social media, and misogyny. An absolute treat of a book.
I loved it!! Every second, but especially the banter between Reese and Benny. I loved Margie- what a dream boss. I recognized how much it sucks when your boss and your boss's boss are sexist pigs, but the support made me feel hopeful
My one question is WHY Reese wants an internship, that unlike her current one requires her to cook when she can't even operate a blender.
Another feather in the "Seattle is the most romantic city" hat
This was a really sweet, easy YA contemporary. If you are a fan of that genre of storytelling you will probably really enjoy this book. The character development was solid and the pacing was fine. It didn't jump out as anything spectacular but I did enjoy my time with the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kaitlyn Hill who blessed me with this early release of this AMAZINGLY sweet book!!! Feminism and romance and food? Yes please!
Book follows the story and Benny and Reese and I gotta say together they are ::chefs kiss:: their banter and food chit chat is super cute and just draws the reader right on. This book is sugar, spice and everything nice! I absolutely loved it!! Superb feel good story.. 5 stars!!
Southerner Reese is thrilled to have landed a summer internship in Seattle working with a culinary media conglomerate and hopes that a full internship will follow in the fall as she starts college at University of Washington. The other intern, who is more culinary, is competing for the same position. The network decides the two interns should participate in a popular segment and they become a hit, with lots of banter. Reese's ineptitude in the kitchen is the perfect foil for Benny to instruct and shine. Some fun is lost when the shows become a competition. The fans are convinced the two are an OTP and while there are some sparks, long-single Reese has flashbacks to an unfortunate incident from her freshman year of high school. Benny's support of Reese is cheer-worthy.
If this a new adult title, it's remarkably tame for two 18-year-olds with magnetic attraction. The cooking details were fun and the slut-shaming of Reese's past add depth to the novel. The "Food Network" allusions and celebrity chefs and tv personalities will be appreciated by fans of cooking shows.

A cute and romantic read! Food and romance, the best pairing! I read the whole thing in one setting! It was a light hearted read! Thank you to the author Kaitlyn Hill, the publishers and Netgalley for allowing me access to this book!
I have no words for this novel. Southern charm galore, hysterical, memorable characters, and upbeat plot...LOVE IT. Kaitlyn has a voice that is distinct, clear-cut, and so adoringly witty. I can't wait to read more from her! An author to watch for sure!!
Food puns, witty comebacks, cooking competition, travel, adventure, romance . . . Love from Scratch has the recipe for YA success. Reese Camden lands a dream-worthy summer internship with Friends of Flavor, a cooking group that creates videos and tutorials. She's working in the marketing department, monitoring the socials, but Benny, the backward cap-wearing wunderkind, is interning in the test kitchen, and the boy is cooking! In an attempt to fill a content gap, the two are paired together for Amateur Hour, a kitchen video where novices have to make something from the ingredients provided. Audiences are hungry for more of Reese and Benny and their sassy, swoon-worthy kitchen banter. The kitchen gets even hotter once the producers decided this will become a competition to earn the single spot for a fall intern. The caveat, now that she's the one on the screen, Reese won't monitor the socials for her show because . . . as we know . . . the people can be cruel.
Can Reese learn to live in the spotlight, figure out her feelings for Benny, and earn the fall spot in the internship? It will take thick skin and determination, but Reese might just have what it takes.
Loved the story, but the cover is way too cutesy.
Love from Scratch is a fantastic foodie read with a feminist message and a love interest who's sweeter than a Reese's Cup.
I loved this book from the get-go. Reese and Benny are both fantastic, fully developed characters who are very relatable, and their dynamic is so much fun. The food puns, the teasing, the flirting--their back and forth is pure gold, and it makes their relationship that much more exciting. And what an interesting relationship they have! The romance here is a slow burn, but that's perfect for these two college-aged leads; their interest in each other blossoms naturally and exactly the way you'd want, and it's made truly entertaining due to the fact that it's playing out, at least in part, through their cooking competition.
The cooking aspects of this book are awesome. Having the story take place on the set of an online cooking channel is something I haven't read before, and I liked how the setup of Friends of Flavor allowed for Reese and Benny to have their separate roles while also creating tension in the form of their impromptu cooking competition. Benny is a total natural in the kitchen while Reese struggles, and their show--the Amateur Hour--would fit right in with the slew of Netflix and Hulu original cooking/baking shows available today.
Aside from the cooking, there's also a plotline focusing on how women are often treated different or looked down on in professional settings. There's also an emphasis on how the internet doubles-down on this negativity, with trolls crawling out of the woodwork to tear people down regardless of whether or not that person has done anything to deserve such treatment. Reese's story is, sadly, very realistic, and I appreciate that her struggles in dealing with her past and her present trolling aren't glossed over. Of course, she has Benny on her side in all things, and his absolute willingness to listen and help however he can proves he is a total cinnamon roll.
For a book that can be sugary sweet, there's also a lot of heaviness, but the serious and the sweet are very well balanced. Love from Scratch isn't afraid to face the horrible realities of today's social media trolls, but it also gives readers an amazing set of characters, tons of delicious food, and one of the most precious, supportive relationships I've read in quite a while. I can't recommend this book enough.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle by Random House Childrenโs, Delacorte Press and #NetGalley for my honest opinion. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Cute, whimsical and fun! An easy read for many to enjoy.
This is a great book. The two main characters are Reese and Benny. Reese is from Kentucky and Benny is from California. They meet at Friends of Flavor, they are both internets for the summer. Reese is in the marketing and Benny is helping with production. The CEO recommends they start a streaming show with Benny and Reese staring in it. Reese and Benny have fun staring in the show. They really get to know each other. They start dating and fall in love.
Sweet- partly enemies mostly rivals to lovers troupe with great criticism of cyber bullying, self awareness is such a great combination when it executed with so much lovable main characters like Reese and Benny!
The interns who take each otherโs place at Friendsโ Flavor but eventually liking each other way too much and things go viral!
Feminism vibes blended with misogyny, inequality, double standard at workspace perfectly. This book was not only sweet, easy to read journey with not only its caring, relatable characters and thought provoking plot line, it also presents us such lovely supporting characters. When you have friends like Nat, Clara who are so supportive, smart, you wouldnโt care your self doubts, you just get encouraged and easily find your place in the earth.
Overall: this is not only light, entertaining, sweet YA fiction, it also questions many important issues and discusses them boldly, representing provocative issues which inspired you with more girl power!
I absolutely loved it!
Special thanks to NetGalley and Random House Childrenโs Delacorte Press for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
A strangers to rivals to lovers trope?! Yes, please! Reese and Benny are rival interns at Friends of Flavor, competing for a job to solidify their positions in the company. But what happens when the two rivals start to fall for each other after spending more and more time together while filming their viral videos?
I love this cover, I love this story, and I love the characters. Bennyโs nicknames for Reese were cute, but Reeseโs nicknames for Benny had me ROLLING.
While there were certain times that Reese made me want to scream and rip out of my hair out of sheer FRUSTRATION, I also realize that she is a 100% relatable character (AKA she is literally me at times), which is probably why I was so invested in this story. Also, Iโd love a Clara and Natalie in my life.
Overall, I loved it. Benny has my heart. Time to ask my boyfriend to wear caps backwards now
Will definitely be purchasing this book when it comes out on April 5, 2022!
Cute romance that is appropriate for both YA and new adult. Themes include identity, body image awareness, cyber/social media bullying.
okay i accept i think im in a book slump
nothing is really rejuvenating my love for reading.
this book is a story of two interns competing for one internship (which is confusing as they are interns.. who are competing to be the intern? )
anywho. I didnt see the love, the lust, the connection, the comedy etc. I understood the concept but it didnt really work for me
