I enjoyed this book. It was fast paced but I was wanting more….it felt it was very bizarre and was hoping for more. I enjoyed The Chain much more.
Adrian McKinty does it again!
It all starts with Australia, what’s supposed to be a business trip turned family vacation, ends up becoming a nightmare for Heather, Tom, and Tom’s two children. It was supposed to be the vacation that got everyone out of their rut.
The trip isn’t going as planned. All the kids, Olivia and Owen, want to see is some cool animals, but to their disappointment, they don’t. But then a stranger overhears them talking about the koalas they want to see and begins to tell them about all of the animals on his families private island, after a lot of pleading, the family agrees to a one hour visit to the private island. What’s supposed to be a fun one-of-a-kind outing, turns into something sinister. One accident can really change everything.
Overall, I loved this book! But it did take me a couple of chapters to truly get into it, I am incredibly glad I stuck to it. After the first couple of chapters I honestly could not stop reading. After reading McKinty’s The Chain, I knew I was in for a great book. This story kept me on the edge of my seat and truly rooting for Heather.
Holy Thriller.! The Island by Adrian McKinty is one heck of a ride.
This book was SO TENSE and shocking.
The ultimate question,, what would you do to save your family?
The Island is a perfect title for this book.
The story was so unpredictable yet, it hooks you from the first page.
I felt like I was holding my breath the entire time I read this book.
A fantastic thriller!
I really enjoyed this one’s idea & it was a fun read. The only reason why I give it 4 stars is the lack of execution! I needed more from it & it would of been excellent. Thank you so much for the chance to read this!
Take an isolated location, add in a creepy clan with a shallow gene pool, and hold on tight as you board the nightmare rollercoaster!
A widower takes his kids and new wife to Australia for a vacation to bond. While there, they take a detour to a remote island, and all hell breaks loose. In a landscape where everything is deadly, the struggle to survive is real. This book was a nonstop thrill ride that kept me breathless, on the edge of my seat, and just further reinforced my horror movie sourced belief that Australia is one of the scariest places on earth!
My best advise for this one is to go in blind without knowing too much! So I am going to keep my review for this short and sweet! If you enjoyed THE CHAIN you will definitely enjoy this one as well.
The Baxter family is visiting Australia, they decide to head to an isolated island that is normally off limits. They happen to wander off and lose their way, only to come across a woman riding a bike, unable to stop in time the family collides with the biker-and what begins as a fun filled, relaxing, family vacation, turns out to be much more than any of them bargained for! A whirlwind of events follow, and ultimately their lives are changed forever.
The setting takes place in Australia on an island, without any government control and no everyday convinces that we so heavily rely on today-such as wi-fi. It is the perfect example of a survival thriller with lots of action, tension, and anxiety filled moments! This one will leave you on the edge of your seat and not wanting to put the book down. Each page is filled with action, and had my adrenaline pumping. With plenty of twists and turns, this one will take the reader on the ride of their life! Hold on tight friends.
Like THE CHAIN, this book is unique and intriguing! I enjoyed the characters, but especially Heather! I loved seeing her grow and evolve into a badass woman by the end of the book.
GO PICK THIS ONE UP——you will not be disappointed!
Also, this one is being made into a HULU series! I am SO excited for that!!!!
Wow! Super intense and addictive. This was a great read, I just couldn’t put it down. Loved the characters. Some I loved and some I loved to hate. The action just never stops.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book
Adrian McKinty has written an unpredictable thriller that will have you hooked the minute you open the book. How far would you go to protect your family? While on vacation, would you go to a private island where no one is wanted?
McKinty has a way of holding your attention from the get-go. If you love thrillers, this is a must read!

I don’t even know where to start with this review… Honestly what I just read was horrifying and intense but also just plain weird and kind of nothing special. There was a decent amount of horror mixed with suspense to keep me interested.
•
First lets start out with the characters. Heather is a great main character, a strong and resourceful woman. There was one part where she did something super vile and while it made me want to vomit, I was jumping up and down internally cheering her on. Her step-children were typical privileged assholes (sorry but I said it). There are a very few chapters that bring up Heathers friend Carolyn, which I found to be semi-useless.. I don’t think there was enough character development.
•
Second, the island. Loved the concept; the people on the island reminded me of the inbred psychopaths from the movie “Wrong Turn”. The entire book sort of reminded me of that movie, except for the fact there was a lack of woods. I felt it to be a little unbelievable at times, (thats all I’m going to say because I don’t want to spoil this for anyone).
•
Third, this book was like a train wreck, one I couldn’t stop reading. Seriously, I was hooked, I read it in a day. The gore and the craziness of this one was definitely on point. I had severe anxiety the entire time reading this one, I just felt like I needed something more for it to be more memorable.
•
Fourth, the ending wasn’t anything that blew my mind, honestly I felt like it was a little rushed and half-assed. I like the one twist that was thrown in there
•
Did I like this one? Absolutely, a three star read for me is definitely something I liked, but did I love it? No, honestly I’ll probably forget about this one in a few months. Do I think this is worth the read? Sure, this one is super face paced, a very quick read and one that will keep your attention from start to finish. Overall, its good, just not my favorite.

Tom, his new wife Heather, and two kids are visiting Australia for a work conference and family bonding. However, when the family decides to visit a secluded island in hopes of seeing some wildlife, a tragic accident spirals into a horrible turn for the worse. Just how far would you go to protect your family?
Wow, this story was intense! My heart was racing as I flew through this book. Filled with fantastic characters (Heather is a boss!), a captivating Australian backdrop, and non-stop action, I highly recommend this one for any action or adventure fans. The Island just released May 17, 2022 and is soon to be a Hulu Original Series, so grab it now!
Special thanks to Little, Brown and Company, Adrian McKinty, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Sadly the second book I've DNFed from this author. I will not read any more of their books. Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for an e-ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
I can immediately see why Hulu picked this up.
The plot moves along at lightning speed, and I read it in just a few sittings. The middle sagged a little, but overall a great fast-paced read.
I like it even better than McKinty's The Chain. He is the King of unique plot ideas!
A family of four arrives on a remote island in Australia. Tom (recently widowed) and his new wife, Heather, and Tom's two kids, Owen and Olivia are on the adventure of a lifetime. They embark on their journey on an island where only one family lives, the O'Neils. When an accident traps them there, things turn dark quickly.
This book was bizarre. Every page got weirder and weirder. There was SO much action that I felt like I didn't know what was going on half the time. As odd as it was, I was quickly reading to see what would happen. While I would recommend this read to anyone, I didn't particularly love it. I much preferred his other book, The Chain.
Thank you to Little, Brown and Company for a copy of this arc in exchange for an honest review.
How far would you go to save your family?
A work trip from Seattle to Australia is the perfect time for this new family to bond. Heather has been with widowed Tom for just about a year and recently married. His young son, Owen and teenage daughter, Olivia aren't big fans of Heather. In an attempt to win them over, Heather talks their way onto a ferry to a remote Dutch island that's off-limits to visitors. After a tragic accident, the island locals want blood. Getting separated from Tom, Heather and the kids stay seconds ahead of their pursuers. Will Heather be able to save them or will the locals get the blood the seek?
I flew through this thriller, picking it up every chance I got! After reading The Chain, I couldn't wait to dive into this Adrian McKinty novel and was not disappointed. I was constantly on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. I read the e-book and listened to the audiobook; I highly recommend either. This is the first audiobook that I've come across that had sound effects to go along with the story and I absolutely loved it! I also feel that the narrator, Mela Lee, did an excellent job portraying each character. I am so excited to see what Hulu does with this as it will soon be a Hulu Original Series! I will definitely be recommending this to my fellow thriller lovers and impatiently awaiting another release from Adrian McKinty!
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Over the top and tense are two descriptions I'd give to to Adrian McKinty's The Island. Heather and her husband Tom and his two children Owen and Olivia are visiting Australia for his work conference. They make their way to a remote island off the coast and things go very, very bad. It's better not to know too many other details, but this one is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Thank you #TheChase #NetGalley #The Island for a free e-copy for my honest review of this book.
Tom (father), Heather (step-mom), Olivia (14) and Owen (12) embark on a trip to Australia together. The kids have been having a tough time since their mother died a year ago, and now they have a new step-mom trying to fill her shoes. Right off the bat Heather meets a guy who you think is sketchy, but it turns out his gift plays a big role in the coming days.
The kids beg Tom to bring them to see some animals and they find themselves on Dutch Island . With no cell phone service and some not so nice residents, this family soon realizes they have to get off the island now, but how?
I enjoyed this book for the most part.
Thank you @novelsuspects and @littlebrown for the advanced copy of the Island which released on Tuesday!

My thoughts: wow what did I just read 🤯🤯this book was insane, such a fun read! I felt like I was reading an action movie I could totally see this becoming a hulu\Netflix movie. Heather was such a great protagonist and I loved the kids. It was unique and action packed. Perfect for fans of Falling or No Exit! I will not be forgetting this book anytime soon
This book creeped me the heck out. Serious Wolf Creek vibes. The Island is coming to Hulu as a series and I will be THERE for it!
The Island of Adrian McKinty is a crazy, far-fetched, entertaining thriller. Heather, her husband Tom and her stepchildren fight for their lives after having a terrible accident on a private island in Australia.
I love suspenseful stories, but I got tired of the chase, and would have learned more about the family living on the island and more of Heather’s past. Still, I wanted to find out the ending so this will entertain many readers, but I preferred his last book, The Chain.
Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
