This was a good book on writing craft and how to get the words to the paper. I look forward to using some of the ideas and advice in my writing.

An excellent and upbeat primer on why to write a non-fiction book with some gentle guidance on how to do it. This audiobook had a surprisingly uplifting and motivating effect on me. I came away thinking: I know things. I should totally write a book about some of the things that I know. You know the one. The one that I keep meaning to write and keep putting off. I still haven't written it yet, but I want to and at least now I think that I can.

When I decided that I wanted to become a better non-fiction writer, I discovered Anne Janzer, and she is my absolute favorite when it comes to this type of book. I’ve been waiting months for the audio version of this book, and when I got it, I finished it within a few days. I’ve personally been going through a bit of a shift with my branding this year and trying to figure out who my target audience is and how to reach them. This book gave me more than enough tools to narrow down my focus and get to work. It also helped me stop worrying about some really trivial things that I’ve been over-thinking. And aside from the book, Anne provides a ton of resources on her website as well. I think what I appreciate the most about Anne’s work is that you can tell that she legitimately just wants to help people be better writers and “get the word out”.

Have you ever thought gee, no one has written about this topic that I know in depth; maybe I should be the one to write that book?!

This book guides inexperienced writers who want to publish a book but are unsure how to begin. As the title implies, the author encourages focusing on your book as a mouthpiece for your ideas, and to that end half of the book talks about how to talk about your book.

She suggests four sequential stages to the writing process—with the first and last ones focused on the audience and the milieu in which your book will reside—in other words, there’s nothing about that putting proverbial “pen to paper.”

Reading this entire book before beginning can ensure that your project develops with clarity and purpose. As you complete the book, you’ll see how this sequence is overall guidance; it’s not made of discrete steps that require all work to completed at each step. In fact, as you gain clarity of the overall process of writing, refining, and exploring may overlap.

Throughout the book, the author gives examples and use case scenarios. Lists of tasks, a descriptive vocabulary of publishing ideas to be aware of. Throughout, these anecdotes and tips provide both encouragement to keep going and suggestions on how to rein it in if necessary.

The first phase she suggests is conceptual. It’s planning the who what where why of the project. Its understanding the niche your book is intended to fill. Estimating your knowledge ability and plot points required.

The second phase is what I remember from high school research papers as gathering material onto index cards. She recommends writing down each separate anecdote as soon as you can. Treat each story as an integral unit to complete. When you’ve accumulated your talking points, assemble them in order.

Now you are ready to write. Begin at the beginning and immerse yourself in writing a first draft as quickly as possible. This phase includes revisions, edits, and rewrites everything —up to publication day.

So, now you’re done? Not so, the author suggests. Now is the time to market your book. This phase deals with a lot if the same high level considerations of phase one.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for sharing this audiobook with me. I have considered writing, but I have been leaning toward fiction. After hearing this book, I am convinced my path should take me to write a book that helps others. I love the concept of servant authorship. The author offers many resources on her website, that I for one, will take full advantage of.

Format: audiobook
Author: Anne Janzer ~ Title: Get the Word Out ~ Narrator: Anne Janzer
Content: 4 stars ~ Narration: 5 stars

Get the Word Out is a very good manual for writing a nonfiction book. Anne Jenzer guides us through various steps of writing a book. It is easy to understand, and it is a practical guide suitable for all who want to write a nonfiction book or those who already have some experience.

I like it when nonfiction authors narrate their own audiobooks; it feels more genuine because of that. The author’s voice is pleasant.

Thanks to the Cuesta Park Consulting for the ARC and the opportunity to listen to this! All opinions are my own.

5 STARS
I'm not a new writer

I have been a writer on and off since I graduated college as an English Lit/Creative Writing major back in the early 90s. (I'll wait while you do the math.) I was fairly certain that there wasn't much more I needed to learn about the writing process because of the sheer number of books I've read to keep the writing and inspiration pump primed and flowing.

Why I chose this book

To Inspire the mind
Because of an upcoming road trip, I downloaded the audiobook version of Anne Janzer's Get the Word Out, intending on using this writing guide to inspire me to stay on top of my writing goals while visiting my hometown and helping my aging parent. I figured I'd keep my writing brain churning by contemplating the exercises in the book. Also, by focusing on writing, I hoped it'd help me weather the possible bad news my mom may bet at her appt.

Pass the time
Also, an audiobook helps pass the hours on the road.

My thoughts as I began reading
The introduction sparked such excitement in me, I didn't want to answer the calls I received. I didn't understand how a book on a topic I knew so well could feel fresh and new, but it did. Some of the information I'd heard before, perhaps presented in a less appealing way. Some of the information was new to me.

What's unique about this book
Whatever the case, the author's way of presenting and inspiring snagged me and wouldn't let me go. It was the perfect companion for wannabe writers, new writers, and for seasoned writers. I loved it so much that I'm going to buy the book version to do the exercises she suggests. It's THAT good.</p>

My recommendation
Authors and wannabe authors, READ IT ALREADY! You might be surprised by what you learn, no matter your experience.

Get the Word Out gets my highest, 5-star rating!
I suggest listening to the audiobook and reading the print book. Get the Word Out. Inspiration and experience await. What more could you ask for?

It is a good and comprehensive guide for new authors. In many aspects. It speaks of emotional challenges one faces while writing and procedures that come after, such as finding an agent and a publisher.
I enjoyed the audiobook version a lot.
I think young authors should be acquainted with the topics this book talks about.

So many authors of how-to and self-help books fail miserably at their intended (or suggested) goal, presented by the title and description. Not Anne Janzer. Get the Word Out is a no-nonsense, easy to read layout of how to write to share your message.

Janzer explores the possibility of publishing from the initial idea and purpose, through the challenges and pitfalls, throwing in plenty of advice and inspiration- to help would be authors reach their goal. Lots of good, solid advice here and presented realistically. Janzer is not pretentious, and does not give false hope in her writing. She is exact and informative. One of the best 'how to/self-help' books I've read in years.

Anne Janzer's 'Get the Word Out' is quite the gem. It's a generous offering from a writer who knows her craft, and knows the pitfalls of the industry, too.

At first, I thought this book was just for beginners - or writers who haven't been published yet - but I was wrong! There are tips, recommendations, and reminders here for every writer, no matter where they are in their publishing journey.

The information is presented clearly, with a good overview, and it's tightly edited, so there's no 'waffling'. I'd highly recommend it as an addition to the library of every non-fiction writer.

As someone who has a complete non-fiction memoir written and only need to take that leap to getting it published, this was a very helpful book to listen to. I have other writing goals on deck that I haven't gotten around to dealing with but this book was inspirational and helpful in guiding me down that path again.

The audio was easy to listen to, though I do wish I had a paper copy so I could thumb through it again in the future!

I picked this book up on a whim while looking for something out of my comfort zone to read. I couldn't have asked for a better random pick for myself than this book at this particular time. As a poet who self published my first collection of poetry, I have been debating on how to go about writing my next book. I wanted to venture out and explore other genres than poetry. Thanks to this audiobook I am inspired to write a memoir because of the amazing advice given in this book! I definitely recommend it even if you aren't interested in writing a nonfiction book.

Get the Word Out: Write a Book That Makes a Difference by Anne Janzer is an excellent book for aspiring writers. I listened to the audiobook version of this book, read by the author. I love the premise of this book and I think the author is successful at accomplishing it. She breaks down the process of figuring out what to write and makes it accessible to anyone. This book is ideal for nonfiction writers, but I think that fiction writers could also benefit from parts of it as well. Great book to pick up when you need to focus and figure out where to start. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
