This sweet contemporary romance is about a woman from England with a past history of suffering from abuse travels to Greece with her friends and the joy she finds there including a new man in her life. It is a great quick easy read.
You always know what you are getting with Sue's books. Whisked off your feet to a beautiful location wishing we was all there.
Becky is off to house sit her Uncle's villa with her two besties Paige and Abby and yes they have a blast.
Throw in hunky Kyros and a beautiful restaurant and you have a wonderful summer story.
I love the friendships and the close bond they have, this is a real insight to a fun girly getaway just what we all need right now.
I absolutely loved this and enjoyed all the characters, and Sue's descriptions really brings her books to life.
A perfect pick me up that we all want.
Highly recommended and a well deserved ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me.
This is the perfect book for anyone who has missed out on a holiday this Summer. The setting was glorious and wonderfully described. There is lots of humour and a sprinkling of romance, although the ending seemed just a little rushed to me. It’s lighthearted (despite the heroine’s past) and is an easy, quick read.
Synopsis: Becky owns a small shop in Ormskirk, Lancashire, where she sells handmade soaps and other beauty products. But this was not always her life. She has escaped an abusive relationship and now her ex is serving time in jail. But she is always cautious that he might show up at her doorstep. In between her uncle invited her and her friends to house sit his villa in Greek island Skiathios, and this was the perfect gateaway she was waiting for. Once they arrived in Greek, she met the handsome Kyros. Definitely she is cautious due to her past but that the question. Will they live happily ever after or her past will catch her up?
🤔🤔My thoughts: Firstly, just the cover is so pretty and amazing. Author Sue Roberts did an amazing job of describing the beautiful Greek island. I was having major FOMO due to the pandemic cannot travel much but if given an option I would have bought a plane ticket and flown to Greece 😊. The love story between Becky and Kyros is also so romantic. At times the book is also super hilarious but definitely the romance and the island was the highlight for me. The ending seemed rushed to me but I can ignore that. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮. 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝. ❤️❤️
Becky has escaped an abusive relationship and built a new life but she feels that she is still constantly hiding away so when her uncle offers an opportunity to house sit on a Greek island she jumps at the chance to live out a Mama Mia fantasy. In Greece she soon settles in and meets an attractive local restaurant owner but is she brave enough to take the plunge and can she escape her past? This is another enjoyable summer read by Sue Roberts
I couldn't get into this one. The setting was nice, but it read like a telling, not like I was watching the story unfold in front of me.
Greece Actually by Sue Roberts is a contemporary romance read. This one is short and sweet and perfect for those that love to travel to exotic locales in their books being set in the Greek island of Skiathos.
Becky has done her best to start her life over after a relationship ended with her in the hospital and her ex in jail. When Becky’s uncle offers her a chance to stay in his villa in Skiathos and bring a couple of friends she can’t resist the offer and quickly invites her best friends Paige and Abby.
After the ladies arrive on the island they make the most of their getaway getting out exploring and enjoying the culture. On one of their many ventures around the island Abby meets a sexy Greek by the name of Kyros and takes him up on his offers of showing her around. When Abby’s friends head home she spends even more time with Kyros and wonders how she can ever return to her life and leave him behind.
If I were to grade Greece Actually by Sue Roberts strictly on the setting it would easily be a book that rated five stars for me. And if I were grading this one on simply being a fun vacation for a group of ladies I believe it would still be right up there. The thing that brought my rating to three and a half stars was this is supposed to be a romance and that part of the story seemed rushed and lacking. It is overall a short, quick read so if there were as much depth put into the romance that there was the setting it would have been great. Regardless though being one that loves a good setting I still enjoyed my time in Greece and would read this author again.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I liked Greece Actually a lot. It started off slow but gradually became a book I did not want to put down. At times the character’s insecurities became redundant. And I didn’t really care for the ending, it seem to call too quick. Overall, I enjoyed it and now want to plan a trip to Greece.
This book was provided to me compliments of #NetGalley for my honest opinion.
Greece Actually is a feel good read by Sue Roberts. Roberts know how to keep you interested. This was a fun, beach tread.
Becky lives in a small town in the UK, she has her own shop where she sells her handmade soaps and beauty products. But she is constantly looking over her shoulder after being physically attacked by her ex-boyfriend. Scott is in jail, but Becky worries he will find her.
When her wealthy uncle Henry invites her to housesit for him at his home on a Greek island while he is away sailing, she jumps at the chance for a summer escape with her two best friends.
Becky’s idyllic holiday is filled with sightseeing, happy memories being made with her friends and gorgeous Greek food.
When she meets the dashing restauranteur Kyros, she is attracted to him but fearful after her past experience. And will they have a future when she returns back home?
Sue Roberts’ books specialise in special holiday spots that you never want to leave, just the best light reading pleasure when a little escapism is called for! Enjoy! 🏖
I was so excited about this book but I had to throw in the towel at 28%.
Mostly because I couldn't get into it and didn't feel like anything was happening. One of my reading pet peeves is reading what a character is eating and it was a lot of talk about their food, snacks, and dinner plans. And there was also overuse of the word "nip". (They "nipped" over, "he nipped to the neighbors", "I'm just going to nip to the house", etc.)
I'm so bummed but this just wasn't my speed.
If it not for a pandemic, I’d be planning a trip to Greece after reading this book. The descriptions of the scenery, the beaches, the restaurants and the people are so well written that the whole Greek experience comes alive through the pages.
The protagonist, Becky, owns a shop in the small town of Ormskirk, Lancashire after relocating three years ago to avoid an abusive ex-boyfriend. When her Uncle Henry invites her to stay at his villa in Greece while he is off sailing, she and two friends, Abby and Paige, travel to the island of Skiathos where the movie Mamma Mia! was filmed. For ten days the young women explore all the island has to offer, providing a welcome diversion from the dismal English weather at home.
I enjoyed the camaraderie between the three friends. The backstory of the ex-boyfriend was a little sketchy, but it did explain Becky’s reluctance to consider a romantic relationship with Kyros, a handsome restaurant owner. The story moves along at a good pace and is highly entertaining from the start. My one criticism is that the ending felt rushed. After so much time devoted to the island experience, the challenges Becky encounters when she returns to England were handled in a cursory manner.
Overall, this was a fun, engaging summer read.
My thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing an eARC. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The cover says exactly what it was- a feel good beach read. I loved the descriptions of Greece and all of the little restaurants. The friendship between the main character, Abby and Paige, seem real & the ownership of the shop is something you can imagine IRL. The whole ordeal with Scott wasn’t even needed!
There can never be too much Greece!😇 This book will take you to Greece right from the spot you are reading the book.
We were supposed to go there two summers ago but had to cancel because of the pandemic. This book ripped the wound open again. 😭 The setting in this book is perfect. Right after the characters left the airport, it felt like I am actually there joining their holiday.
While I loved the setting and some side characters, the majority of characters, including the main protagonist, were very one-sided. Through the story, we do not get to properly discover any of them. They are only tales and observations told by the main character. It feels like the author has tried to include a narrative for each, but did not spend enough time to explore any of the storylines for either of them. There is Henry and his wife's story, Scott's story, Kyros's story, her girlfriends. After reading this story, I cannot say I know any of them, nor can understand why they acted the way they did, while they are the pillars of this story.
Unfortunately, the romance was also missing a spark. I want to describe the relationship as " nice" which indicates that something was missing. Description of dates they went on focused way more on surroundings than their connection. Their love did not convince me.
This book will be great for you in case you love to read travel descriptions about places, food, and locals.
Thanks to NetGalley, Sue Roberts, and the publisher for providing an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. 🤗
I’ve never been to Greece but Sue manages to evoke a memory that I don’t even have. I can smell the lavender and taste the wine and feel the heat (I hate hot weather but sun in the UK is a different beast to heat on a foreign island).
I did think there would be more to Scott’s story but he wasn’t really explored where I thought he could be more of a contrast to the other characters. Some characters are more well-rounded than others, but they’re all their own person with a specific purpose to the storyline.
Oh it is so warm and comforting. It is fun and funny and romantic, relaxing and entertaining. It is light reading and very enjoyable. Perhaps a predictable storyline, but great fun at the same time. I’ve not read any of Sue’s Greece inspired books before, but it’s clear she has a great passion for the country and it might just have to be my next holiday destination - especially if there’s a handsome Greek waiting for me.
Let Sue Roberts transport you to the beautiful Greek island of Skiathos in her latest novel, Greece Actually.
The story follows Becky who, since her last romantic encounter ended in disaster, chooses to live her life in relative anonymity in a small Lancashire town. With news of her ex-boyfriend sniffing around after, Becky does something very unlike her and packs her bags heading to Skiathos with two of her best friends. Think the clear azure sea, soft sand, delicious Greek food and many many cocktails. Add into the mix a gorgeous restaurant owner and this could be just the holiday Becky needs to forget her past. But will it be that simple?
Featuring great characters, this is a book that you can totally lose yourself in and almost feel the heat of the sun on your skin. A brilliant read that will enthral with each page. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Becky, after her last relationship ended with her being in hospital now lives a shy, safe life. What she classes as her safety net or place can be measured by the amount of savings she has. So, when she gets news that her ex is asking about her, it’s the last thing she wanted to hear.So unlike her, with her bags packed, along with her friends, she heads to Skiathos, Greece. Hoping that the change of scenery and the place of her favourite ABBA film was made will be the break she needs…
The villa is something she and her friends wish they could afford, leaving behind their worries, they take in the sights, the food and the tour on board the Mamma Mia! boat, singing loudly and in view of others. She makes friends with everyone she meets, young, old and a hot, handsome restaurant-owner Kyros. With him she eats food prepared in his restaurant on starlit dates, walking barefoot along silky sandy beaches.
When she’s asked to stay on after her holiday comes to an end, she’s shocked, is it possible for her to begin a new life here, and trust this smooth-talker?
Back home, just as she’s beginning to think about making changes, along comes her ex, wanting her back.
So, does Becky go back to her safe life, or is she going to be brave and take a chance on Greece and be the dancing queen?
⭐️📖 BOOK REVIEW ⭐️📖
Book: Greece Actually
Author: Sue Roberts
Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5)
Publication Date: 13th August 2021
Sue Roberts is a new author for me but Greece Actually will not be the last book of hers I will read. This was the absolute perfect book to read on a cold winters day in lockdown in Sydney. I was almost able to close my eyes and imagine I was Becky having the time of my life in Henry’s villa in sunny Greece!
I loved that this book was as much about friendship as it was about romance. I love the friendship that Becky, Abby and Paige have and reading about their adventures made me reminisce and miss all of the adventures I’ve had with my friends back in Ireland over the years.
I thought the writing was beautiful and I really didn’t want the book to end. I was completely engrossed and I would absolutely adore a sequel. It was honest, heartbreaking, heartwarming and hilarious all at the same time.
Thanks so much to @netgalley and @bookouture for the advanced reader copy of Greece Actually in exchange for an honest review.
A brilliant feel good summer read. . The setting in Greece was lovely. The food and drink descriptions were mouthwatering. The boat trips made you want to be there. The three main characters were all lovely. Gosh Scott was a nasty character and you were glad he got his comeuppance .Becky was a very strong woman . I loved her business . You felt for her parents. You would be that protective. Loved it
I love a good travel fiction book and especially Greece as a part of my heart will always be on the Greek islands, this book is set on Skiathos and the surrounding seas and is brilliant escapism (though our current heatwave is nice, it's severely lacking Mythos and gemista!)
This is my first Sue Roberts novel and I was impressed by the detail and thought put in to setting the scenes of the island, the friendliness of the Greeks, and how beautiful the restaurants are there.
I loved the friendships, the romance and the beautiful soap business that Becky has built up at home. I felt the storyline regarding her violent ex was a bit disjointed; I'd hope in reality things would happen very very differently, this subject may be a trigger for some reading this book hoping for light romance, I wouldn't usually mention a pertinent plot line like this but felt a gentle warning needed to ensure these subjects aren't sensitive to you before reading.
