Book Review
Love You Forever by Chloe Liese
Book 4 in the Bergman Brothers Series
Thank you to @netgalley for my ARC in return for an honest review
A neurodiverse author writing a love story whose main heartthrob is on the spectrum. A love interest with health issues. Grumpy but compassionate guy meets outgoing loving girl, they share a moment during a game of charades, and then avoid each other like the plague. Unexpectedly they both find themselves At the A frame cabin… each faced with challenges and decisions to make. Can they trust eachother?
I have loved the whole series from Liese and this book was no exception. I appreciate Liese’s ability to write characters that have complexity and depth while maintaining the feel of a light romance read that so Many enjoy.
Another perfect summer read!
Chloe knocks it out of the park (no surprise here) yet again with her latest installment in the Bergman Brothers series. Grumpy/Sunshine AND Fake Marriage? Just put a fork in me, I'm done, it's amazing.
I always knew from my glimpses of him that Axel was going to steal my heart, and yet I wasn't prepared for the way that he absolutely swept me away. His certainty in himself and who he is and his absolutely acceptance of Rooney for who she was and what she brought to the table was just amazing. I also loved the way he expresses his love for his family, through his actions (lol at Rooney describing that as his love language); the Bergmans love hard and Axel is no exception. Rooney also loves hard, so it's no surprise that she would go from an Honorary Bergman, to being married to one (even if it's just for convenience). I also loved the insight we got into big-brother Axel with the man cubs- everyone talks about that braiding scene (which don't get me wrong, made me melt), but for me, it was the hug between Ollie and Axel that sealed the deal.
With every one of her books, Chloe continues to hit home that everyone deserves a love story and that representation matters, and this book was no exception. As someone who also suffers from digestive difficulties, I felt so seen in the representation of Rooney and in Axel's love and acknowledgement that her ulcerative colitis was not all of who she was, and that someone would love and accept the part of her she felt she needed to hide away.
I think Chloe also continued to show her range with this one; it's not nearly as heavy (though still brings the realness and the slow burn) as some of the other Bergman novels, but it's no less beloved in my heart for it.
Chloe Liese has become an auto but author for me. Her Bergman Brother's series just does not disappoint. This book 4 and we are following Axel who is the loner of the family and likes to live his quiet life up in Washington state. Rooney is his little brother's girlfriends best friend who has become a part of his family and the attraction is mutual but neither one wants to act on it. Rooney needing some time alone to reflect goes to the Bergman's mountain property but it turns out that Axel is there doing some major repairs so what follows is the two of them having to share a one room cabin! So if you love the trope of forced proximity and only one bed you should check this one out. It is also a grump and sunshine which I am a total sucker for! I can't wait for the next Bergman story! Thank you Netgalley and Chloe Liese for my gifted copy for review!
"Her eyes meet mine, and that moments feels like a new color, brushed across my heart's canvas. One that I never even dreamed could grace my life, because I didn't know it existed."
Author Chloe Liese writes some of the most beautiful, realistic romance I've had the pleasure of reading. Sure the characters are still gorgeous, but they are also feel incredibly authentic and deal with real-world issues.
Like many readers, I've been anxious for Axel and Rooney's story. This is a beautiful start, there are so very many things I loved about it, including the marriage of convenience and forced proximity aspects. However, this really does feel like it's just the beginning. There were a few more scenes I was really hoping for, so I have my fingers crossed for a sequel novella or some bonus content.
The Bergman brothers are back again! This time it’s Axel’s turn. He’s a full-on grump who loves his alone time. That might be a problem when sunshine-y Rooney shows up in his space and turns his world upside down. They’ve been secretly crushing on each other for a long time, but will one of them finally make a move? They end up in a marriage of convenience under some interesting circumstances and I could not love it more.
Ugh, I just love this series so much and they get better every time. With You Forever is much more than a love story. It’s also about self-love and two very wounded people learning to be loved when they don’t feel deserving. Axel is on the autism spectrum and doesn’t know how to fully express himself while Rooney has been quietly dealing with chronic IBD and doesn’t want to burden those closest to her. It’s beautiful to see them learn to love themselves in their truest forms as they build a bond together.
I will never stop loving this family and it brings me joy every time we see them all together again. Of course, this time is no different. I also love the setting of the PNW and the A Frame and all the natural beauty that comes with it.
If you’ve been with this series from the beginning (which you should be), you’ve probably been waiting for this pair to get together for a LONG time. You will not be disappointed with them. But let me list off some other things I could not get enough of because you know I could ramble forever: the animals, Bennett and Parker and Skyler, the level of communication, the openness about sex and their needs. Chloe’s writing is so powerful I even find myself tearing up while reading the acknowledgments.
Thank you to Chloe Liese and Netgalley for my copy of this book. It’s on shelves 9.14.21.
3.5 stars
This is a tough one. I liked it...but, I don't know that I could recommend it without reservations either. The pining goes on for WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY too long, and since these two want to jump each other's bones from the moment they reconnect in this story (SPOILER ALERT: AT THE VERY BEGINNING) and don't because of "reasons" and "bad timing" and...well, the lust fest goes on for tooooooooooo long.
On the plus side, as usual in this series, we get to know two likeable principals with issues some of us can relate to and/or empathize with and/or sympathize with and the backstories/current situations are well executed & feel organic to the story and these characters. I like the diversity here, although I'm sort of losing my enthusiasm for the uber "we have issues but are super amazing otherwise" Bergman clan. Much like some of the historical romances I love to binge, I start to lose my ability to simply buy into these picture perfect lives. I mean, yes, there are issues...but they are sidelined in favor of a narrative that is a little too sticky sweet. Maybe you know what I mean, maybe you don't. Kleypas has a few of these gilded characters in some of her longer running series and instead of becoming more fond of these folks, I've started to dread meeting them on the page. It grows tedious, you know?
Anywho. We aren't talking about Kleypas - we're talking about Liese. She's a strong writer but I'm ready for some new characters. I'm hoping we get an LGBTQ+ story and that we see less of the Bergman clan in future books, but I'll be back regardless. I like this writer & I like her characters.
Biggest problem in this book? The unnecessarily long slow burn. Enough already. We get it.
Recommended with reservations.
This was my favorite of the series. Slow burn, lots of pining on both sides. Marriage of convenience.
I liked Rooney a lot. She was my favorite of the Bergman heroines. She's the sushine girl without some of the quirks the other girls had. The steamy scenes were excellent - great use of condoms, lube and consent. The trifecta!
I didn't love the book because the conflict was so centered on nobody talking to each other. And I'm not sure it was necessary for them to get married, though marriage of conveniences in CR are always a little suspension of belief.
I received an ARC copy through NetGalley, but left a review voluntarily.
This was so cute! Adored Axel and Rooney’s dynamic and it was so lovely seeing how their relationship progressed throughout this story. Lots of appreciation for Chloe Liese shedding more light on underrepresented themes and portraying romance in a realistic yet relatable writing style. I just wish I saw more of the other Bergman family members like I did in the previous books because it’s so comforting to follow along with my favorite couples from the other books and seeing how their relationships went on, in addition to Axel and Rooney’s!
Also I am SO looking forward to Oliver and Viggo’s books in the future!
There is both too much and not enough to say about this book. It was perfect. Axel and Rooney are everything.
After years of simmering attraction and an ill advised kiss, the last thing Rooney needs when she runs away from her life to the Bergman’s A frame in Washington is to run into Axel. The last thing Axel needs is to be surrounded for weeks by the only thing he can’t stop thinking and painting about. But the meddling Bergman’s and fate have other things in mind.
Highlights:
Is it helpful to say the whole book? No? Oh well.
As always, Chloe tackles neurodiversity and chronic illness head on. Rooney has been secretly managing her Ulcerative Colitis for years, but a bad flare up leads to her taking a leave of absence. And Axel finally has words for how he thinks, loves, and receives love differently than most people, and has to grapple with the fact that he can be loved and wanted for everything he is, including his autism.
So much tropey goodness. Only one bed/cabin, grumpy sunshine, marriage of convenience, cooking lessons, romance reading hero, hurt/comfort in both directions, found furry family, and secret home renovation all swirl together inside an incredibly moving, sexy, affirming story.
I am an absolute sucker for domestic forced proximity. Sharing home space, cooking together, reading together, all the everyday intimacies of living with someone that build and lead to deeper kinds of intimacies. It just rings my bell exactly right, and since it was the whole book, I both wanted to savor it and couldn’t read fast enough. Since I finished it in less than a day, you decide which won.
The Bergman family all made appearances, with extra time with the man cubs than we have gotten before, and I am beyond excited to read Oliver’s story (coming out in 2022) and see who has him so wrecked. Touching base with the family is always comforting, and we got to meet some of Axel’s friends in this one.
Axel and Rooney are just so great together, and through all their fumblings, do a good job of learning to ask for what they need from the other. They investigate the ways they have been loved in the past, and realize they need more than that. And they see each other, cherishing the quirks and trying so hard to give the other what they need. So, so good.
Overall, this is one of my favorite reads of the year so far, long anticipated and maybe better than I was expecting. I love this family, and I can’t wait for more next year.
I received an ARC of With You Forever from NetGalley and it did not affect my rating or review.
I am so glad I had this sunshine of a book to keep me company while I was in a short COVID quarantine from my family. If you love a pining slow burn, marriage of convenience, “let’s do it once to get it out of our system,” and a lovely grumpy/sunshine combo, then you need to read Axel and Rooney’s story.
I sincerely appreciate how each of the Bergman family books include real life issues and chronic illnesses that are otherwise too often ignored. Axel is autistic, and Rooney has ulcerative colitis — a chronic illness she has largely kept hidden from even her closest friend.
Much of my joy from this book came from watching Rooney and Axel finally becoming friends after years of secret pining and how they so sweetly learn to trust one another. (Also, the smooching.) It also shows SO MANY examples of people demonstrating love to one another through action — which remains one of my favorite things about reading romance.
The Bergman books have quickly become an automatic pre-order for me. I hope you love this one as much as I did!
"Holy shit. I am the plausible victim of a Bergman meddling."
GOSH these Bergman Brothers. They. Are. The. Best. In other words, Chloe Liese has done it again, writing an incredible slow BURN (and I do mean burn 🔥) story for grumpy, closed-off Axel and sunshiny, searching Rooney.
Remember the charades kiss at the end of Book 3? While it might have been the result of some Bergman meddling, Rooney and Axel definitely have a spark and some tension. When Axel needs someone to marry in order to get his inheritance and save the family cabin, Rooney just happens to be visiting that same cabin. She agrees to marry him for a year, and thus begins our marriage of convenience. Was I giddy every time something like "That's when the power cuts out" came up in this forced proximity book? Absolutely. Chloe does such a wonderful job of writing very real and raw characters and pulling you in so that you ignore your family for an entire day to finish her books. You absolutely need to read Axel and Rooney's journey of finding home within each other, and of course to get some good Bergman Bro bat signal action at the end.
In this book, you will find:
- Marriage of convenience
- Forced proximity
- Autism and IBD (ulcerative colitis) rep
There's also a perfect Spotify playlist available to accompany your reading.
"Reading about people who look and live and speak so differently from us, yet struggle like we do with their inner demons and outside forces, fight for love in their friendships and families and the people they've fallen for, reminds us that not only romantic love, but familial and platonic and sacrificial love is universal, and romance is timeless, that there's a love story for anyone out there who wants one."
From the very first moment Rooney and Axel shared, I was sold and obsessed with them. Their book was one of my most anticipated releases of the year, and it didn't disappoint because it was everything I could have hoped for and more!!! These two have my heart, and I love them so much.
With You Forever is the fourth book in the Bergman Brothers series and follows Rooney Sullivan and Axel Bergman. They have been secretly crushing on each other for the past couple of years and always managed to hide it until an unforgettable charades game where they shared a kiss. Since then, they haven't seen each other, but they can count on some Bergman meddling to change that. Rooney and Axel both end up at the Bergman's vacation home at the same time, and they never thought that this situation would lead to a marriage of convenience or a perfect love match.
After reading four books in this series, it is among my top favorites! Axel and Rooney's story was very heartwarming, soft, and sweet, and I adored everything about it. They caught my attention from their first interaction in Always Only You, and I instantly knew that they would become my favorite couple from the series. Since then, I've been eagerly waiting for their book to come out, and finally reading it made me so happy because they were literally so precious together. The tropes in this installment were also very well-executed. Grumpy/sunshine plus marriage of convenience were a great match! As always, Chloe Liese's writing is wonderful, and I love how she makes you feel every emotion and makes her characters so authentic. I've fallen in love with every couple in this series so far, and I know it won't stop with the rest of the Bergman siblings. This series and these characters have my whole heart. If you haven't started it yet, I don't know what you're waiting for. Read it!!
Ever since Rooney and Axel were introduced in Only When It's Us, I have become very attached to them and was really looking forward to reading their book to learn more about them. Rooney is such a wonderful and strong character, and I liked that her chronic illness was told without taboo. Chloe Liese showed and handled it well in a way that makes you understand more about her ibd. Sweet and grumpy artist Axel also stole my heart. He cares so much about his family and loved ones, and he deserves nothing but the best. Axel is on the spectrum, and I like how the author keeps showing that neurodiversity is different for everyone. The characters were, once again, very well written, and together they made me swoon SO MUCH.
The development of Axel and Rooney's relationship was perfect from beginning to end. They were always honest and communicative with each other, and I found their relationship to be very healthy. They shared some awkward moments because they didn't know how to handle their attraction and feelings for each other, but also a lot of cute moments. Like them cooking together or Axel braiding Rooney's hair, the scenes with Harry and Skugga, or the grand gesture at the end!! THE CUTEST. Watching them slowly find comfort in each other was beautiful, and the tension between them was on fire. I love them <3
Overall, With You Forever was everything, and Axel and Rooney had me on cloud nine the whole time. The rest of the Bergman clan also made several appearances, and it was great to see them all together again. I'm already looking forward to reading the next installment and having new Bergman content. This series has really become my comfort read, and I love this family so much.
Another addition to my favorite romance series. I was so excited when I saw that it was about Axel and Rooney. I loved the plot and how it unfolded. I flew through this book and could not put it down.
ALL the stars for this latest Bergman Brothers book featuring Axel and Rooney and their grump + sunshine, marriage of convenience, open door love story. I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to read an advance copy of Chloe Liese's newest book. I absolutely adore the way she writes such diverse characters with depth, vulnerability and authenticity.
Rooney lives with an inflammatory bowel disease, a chronic illness that is interfering with her ability to manage law school and takes the chance to stay at the Bergman A-frame cottage for a break when her friend Willa offers it. Unbeknownst to her Axel is also there trying to fix the cottage. Rooney agrees to marry Axel so he can gain an inheritance that would pay for the repairs and the two embark on a SLOOOOOOW burn, forced proximity romance.
The author does such a great job building the tension between these two and when things finally do heat up they get REALLY STEAMY with sex scenes that are so real and consensual, having the characters discuss what works for each other and what types of things they prefer. I found that really refreshing to read when so many books often gloss over important discussions like those.
Other things I loved about this book: the cute animal sidekicks, the strong mental health rep (both Rooney and Axel go to therapy), the Bergman family cameos, Axel reading historical romance novels, the sensitive way Axel's neurodiversity is represented in an open and normalized way, and the overall message that everyone deserves to love and be loved.
If you haven't yet had the pleasure of getting to know the Bergmans I won't stop, can't stop recommending them enough! I'm also super excited to see what's next for the author and her latest Berkley romance deal! So much to look forward to in the coming months from one of my favorite romance writers!! Much thanks to the author and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Another enjoyable story about the Bergman Brothers from Chloe Liese. I enjoyed the characters and the romance, though I would have liked a few additional settings and a little more action. Overall though, the characters were sweet and the romance was great.
Start from the beginning of the series and work your way up to this one. Trust me. It’ll make this slow burn even slower!
This book is complete and total perfection. I can’t wait until the next book comes out to get a glimpse at more of Axel and Rooney’s story.
Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my unbiased review.
With You Forever is the fourth book in the Bergman Brothers series but easily works as a stand alone. I am new to Chloe Liese’s writing and devoured the first three books in a week. Chloe Liese is amazingly talented at creating characters with real issues and weaving her storytelling into a seamless, solid romance.
With You Forever tells Axel and Rooney’s story. Axel is working on a major project for his family but needs money. Since his family is unaware of his project, he seeks help from Rooney and a wonderful marriage of convenience trope ensues. Axel and Rooney’s story is my favorite. As with the rest of the series, Chloe Liese writes neurodiverse and chronic illness representation beautifully, carefully and intentionally. The relationship development was perfect and I loved every second of their story.
I have read many, many romance books and Chloe Liese has become one of my favorite authors. I recommend this book for lovers of marriage of convenience trope, grumpy/sunshine, slow burn, forced proximity with excellent representation.
I'm officially at Chloe Liese mercy! August is the month I first encountered the Bergman Brothers' series, and the month I miserably fell in love with it too. I just yearned for a glimpse of Axel all along. I was desperate and this book didn't cure it because candidly I am still craving so much. I have a lot of questions and curiosities about how their lives will move on. I got deeply attached to a bunch of fictional characters. At first, it evoked weird emotions, why all these girls love this family so much? It's so annoying. Nevertheless, I myself would want to be part of it?!????? I'm honestly so unsatisfied, I need MORE.
The author made me love Ronney and Axel so much, so freaking much. There is so much more said through caring than words and being romantic. Some people aren't romantics, but that doesn't make them less loving and caring. I have definitely learned that lesson.
It's the combination of all the tropes we love, but much beyond. It wraps them up in a different way, one that shows how real these characters are. How they can be us one day (although my family can never afford a cabin in the woods). The Bergmans are an amazing family, one I would love to hang out with. With each love confession, I'm captured. However, this one might have made me scream a little louder onto my bed, Agh.
Though this might not be my favorite of the series, but the praise is worth giving. I thought that the way Chloe's writing style bends and shifts forms depending on who is talking is brilliant. We are different people, with different patterns of thinking. It pulled everything together as always.
I will carry to care and read for my favorite author with passion. Waiting for more xxx.
It's no secret that I love everything Chloe Liese writes. I absolutely love her Bergman Brothers series and I adored With You Forever, featuring Axel and Rooney's love story. I love that Chloe includes neurodiverse or disabled characters in her books. I feel like it's a rarity to see this type of representation in romance books, so I truly appreciate how inclusive her books are. In With You Forever, Rooney suffers from IBD / Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Axel is on the autism spectrum. I learned from the book that 130M (yes, million!) people in the world have a disability. In the grand scheme of things, it makes those with a disability not feel so alone.
Axel Bergman is a painter / artist and does well for himself. He's a bit of a self-proclaimed loner or recluse and lives in Washington state at his family's A-frame. The Bergman siblings can use the A-frame whenever they want but the only stipulation is that they have to maintain the upkeep the house. Unfortunately, the A-frame needs a lot of repairs in order for it to be habitable and Axel has given most of his savings to his brothers' new business. Axel actually lives in a cabin he built on the A-Frame's grounds most of the time. As Axel is autistic, he feels differently from others and hasn't had a lot of luck with love. He's had consensual casual relationships but he purposely doesn't get too close to the women he hooks up with. But there's one woman with whom he shared a kiss with two Christmases ago during a game of Charades that he can't stop thinking about: his brother Ryder's girlfriend's best friend called Rooney.
Rooney is Willa's best friend so she has spent a lot of time with the Bergmans'. Her parents have been pretty absent her whole entire life so she has always wanted to feel a sense of belonging. Rooney is in her last year of law school at Stanford but due to her recurring UC issues, she wants to get away from it all and heal. Willa offers Rooney the A-Frame as no one will be there but of course fails to mention that Axel lives on the premises! It's a complete shock when they run into each other but Axel was brought up to be a gentleman so he offers Rooney his cabin while he sleeps in a tent. The attraction between them is palpable and they both can't forget that kiss.
Axel, out of money, needs a way to pay for the repairs on the A-frame. One way to do that is through his uncle Jakob's inheritance but he can only collect the money under one condition: he has to be married. Since Axel is letting Rooney stay at his cabin, she feels like the least she can do is to marry Axel so he can get his uncle's inheritance. They end up getting married and know it's only for convenience but why does it feel like much more than that? While the repairs are being done on the house in the weeks that follow, their attraction grows stronger and they have a hard time resisting each other. They both wonder if there is something real between them. What is this unfamiliar feeling in Axel's chest? Can they love each other the way they need to be loved?
Loved this slow burn and seeing Axel and Rooney's love story unfold bit by bit. Chloe does character development so well and every book shares a unique, captivating story. It's as if you're going through all the emotions with them. Chloe captures the essence of familial love, relationships and devotion so beautifully. I adored this book and can't wait for Oliver's book to come out in 2022!
Rating: 4.5 stars (rounded up to 5).
Thank you, NetGalley, Amazon Publishing and Chloe Liese for providing me an eARC of the book in exchange for my honest review.
