Logan is an amazing, neurodivergent main character orphan who lives at a new foster home. Logan and his neighbor, a super cool older girl named Elena, discover that his foster parents are lying and they’re superheroes. But when that revelation sinks in, Logan’s foster parents are double-crossed and captured. In an exciting, fast-paced adventure, Logan and Elena use his wits and her strength to save his foster parents and other supes from the villains and the traitor.
What an action packed heartwarming story full of humor & superheroes! Had a great time, & loved it! Can't wait to read the next book in the series!
4 stars = Great! Might re-read.
I thoroughly enjoyed Logan's story - Logan is a fantastic character and I enjoyed how he tells his story. The author has great skill with voice and metaphor - I really enjoyed the writing in this. The superhero pieces were great as well.
I don't know that there's anything in the content of the story that was surprising or would distinguish this from other books with a similar plot. But LOGAN is what makes this special and fun. I am
Okay, so first. THE COVER! What an amazing action-packed cover. I loved it since the moment it was revealed.
What I would have given to have this book when I was a child! THE UNFORGETTABLE LOGAN FOSTER was such a quick and fun read. I loved Logan's voice, the action, and the humor. It felt as if I was being told an attention-grabbing story from a best friend. I loved how Peters wasn't afraid to step outside of typical narration in the way he allowed Logan to be free in the way he told his story. I loved the inclusion of lists and facts and side points. What a creative way to narrate a story. It felt as if Logan was talking right to me!
This is the book I'll be picking up and reading again whenever I'm having a dreary day and am in need of an escape.

The Unforgettable Logan Foster #1 is a superb, fast-paced superhero fantasy about identity, self-worth, and finding community. I'm glad that this is the first in a series of books and I'm sure that readers who enjoy superhero books and films will LOVE this one. It's also fantastic on audio and showcases foster care in a positive light while highlighting the challenges some kids (especially those of certain races or with a disability) face. Overall, a brilliant debut.
Young readers will love the very memorable Logan and his superhero foster parents! Hasn't every kid wished for superhero parents at some point? Peters explores the ups and downs of this scenario with tons of heart and humor, The fantasy world built within the real world can be a complicated system, but it never overpowers the plot or the characters. With one near-death experience after another, this is a roller coaster ride of a book. The fact that it is told in second person (Logan is recounting the events to his long-lost-and-still-missing sibling) makes it even more unique, and readers will definitely be hoping for more high-stakes hijinks from Logan Foster and his super family!
The Unforgettable Logan Foster is an unforgettable book. From beginning to end, it’s full of action and suspense. And at the center of it all is Logan.
Logan’s not like other kids. He’s neurodivergent — meaning he thinks differently from most people. Multiple doctors have diagnosed him with a range of disorders. In fact, the only thing the doctors seem to agree about is his memory being something none of them have ever seen. His eidetic, aka photographic, memory has helped set him apart as the smart, weird kid, who tells things as they are.
Gil and Margie are the first people who don’t seem to mind Logan’s “oddities.” They seem drawn to him because of them.
Logan’s story unfolds as he writes his story for the sibling he hasn’t seen since he was 3. This first-person approach is a brilliant move on author Shawn Peters’ part. Readers get a true sense of how Logan thinks and why he acts the way he does. It’s a great character study against the backdrop of superheroes and supervillains.
And, boy, are there superheroes and supervillains.
Peters has assembled a cast straight out of comic books. And though there are a few illustrations, each of them comes alive through Peters’ text.
The Unforgettable Logan Foster is the first book in a planned series that is sure to appeal to kids and adults alike. It’s one of those books that would be just as fun to read aloud as it is to read it to yourself.
This is a wonderful read. That is a fact. (IYKYK)
This is the story of Logan Foster, a (yes) foster child who gets adopted by parents with...ahem, *special* abilities. The ensuing adventure is engaging, and the voice creative and immersive. It's a quick read and immensely enjoyable.
Thanks to HarperCollins Children's and NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.
This book was a joy to read. As soon as it started I loved the writing style and Logan as a character. The way it is written means that the book moves along really quickly and there's action pretty much from the get go. Logan is a unique character, being neurodivergent and always speaking his mind no matter what. His voice throughout the book is refreshing and immediately endears him to the reader.
The story itself is full of hijinks and action, full of humor and adventure. It definitely reads like a superhero movie or comic and constantly keeps you on your toes. I think it's perfect for its target audience and think this will be a great series for young readers not only looking for adventure and laughs, but also looking to perhaps see themselves in someone like Logan.
The perfect book for fans of superhero stories. Logan is an orphan with an eidetic memory. He's been almost adopted several times and assumes the latest two parents who say they want him will eventually return him, too. But when the world literally starts to fall apart due to major earthquakes that seem supernatural, Logan finds himself on the adventure of a lifetime. Plot twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and turning the pages quickly on this one.
One of the things that I loved about The Unforgettable Logan Foster was Logan's voice. I enjoyed the way he internalizes dialogue and then just says what he's feeling. There's lots of humor and a sensitivity in that voice. I also enjoyed the way he made lists to organize information and his love for stating the facts. Not to mention his incredible memory for details. When Logan was found on the jetway, the only two pieces of information available were a note attached to his shirt with "L. Foster" and that the t-shirt he was wearing said, "World's Best Big Brother." It's because of these two facts that he is confident that he has a sibling somewhere out there. The whole story is written as a letter to his unknown sibling with each chapter timestamped with the date. Logan tries to highlight the events that his sibling missed out on, while also expressing everything that he is doing to try and find them. Another thing I truly enjoyed was Logan's tenacity and how he utilizes his innate talents to overcome the obstacles thrown at him by Necros. Logan is truly a remarkable main character, unforgettable and one I can see children rooting for. I found myself excited for his newfound family and the potential of learning more about Logan's birth parents and possible sibling in any future book.
**A huge thank you to Madison and Grace Fell from SparkPress for the E- ARC in exchange for a review**
This book is so much fun. Logan really is unforgettable, and I enjoyed reading his story. The voice is unique and perfect for kids. Logan is charming and funny, but my favorite aspect about his personality was his resilience. I loved his positivity and optimism while remaining realistic. The story's action-packed and the pacing flowed really well. I loved the premise, and while the cast of characters was large, they were each unique enough that I never had trouble keeping up with who was who. I'd recommend this book to anyone!
I fell in love with Logan while reading this book. I'll be watching for more from him! This will be a stellar read for reluctant middle-grade readers.
Logan Foster has spent most of his twelve years living in an orphanage in Los Angeles, having been found parentless at the age of three on a jetway at LAX. Despite several attempts, Logan has not found a suitable foster home, inevitably returning to the orphanage time and time again. One couple seems prepared to shift the paradigm of Logan’s life, but when Logan’s eidetic memory and knack for noticing details alert him to the fact that there are secrets being kept from him, Logan must speak up. And as inexplicable events begin taking place around them, Logan and his foster parents find themselves in the middle of an adventure they will never forget.
Told through the voice of a neurodivergent protagonist with an eidetic memory and a love of lists and numbers, this book reads markedly differently from many others of this genre. Logan is writing specifically to the younger sibling he knows is out there somewhere, frequently saying aloud what he has just been thinking. Each of the chapters begins with a timestamp and date to orient readers to when events are taking place, but the times are very specific and not what one might expect. Similarly, lists are found throughout the narrative as Logan attempts to make sense of the events happening in the world around him. Driven by facts and logic, Logan approaches his circumstances in the manner that makes the most sense to him, often surprising others with his unique abilities.
This book begins as a coming of age story about an orphaned boy who is on a quest to learn the truth about what happened to his birth family. Occasional insertions in the beginning make readers question exactly what is happening, but they do not deter from the primary plot. Then, the truth unveils itself in an expert and unexpected way, launching readers into an exciting and action-packed side of Logan Foster’s reality. Through humor and honest emotions, this story connects readers to the possibilities of the unknown and the power of family in all its forms.
Stunningly executed, this book is one that readers will refer to again and again. Fans of superheroes will engage deeply with Logan’s story as will those readers who empathize with the challenges faced by neurodivergent people. This story will keep readers on the edges of their seats as they fly through the narrative, and Logan Foster is sure to become a favorite protagonist for years to come. The Incredible Logan Foster is a superb addition to library collections for middle grade readers.
The Unforgettable Logan Foster takes us through the journey of Logan who is a fun brilliant kid with an eidetic memory and loves to read stories about superheroes. When Logan finally gets the opportunity of new foster parents they seem loving but very strange. What could be their secret?!
What makes this book enjoyable to read is seeing the world through Logan’s eyes. He’s always got a lot on his mind, and he speaks how he feels and is very smart. He tries his best to make new friends even though it may be a struggle for him. But most of all he wants to just have a solid family where he can call home.
Logan’s story is chronicled by dates and times for each chapter set up. It’s like reading a diary of someone as they look back at their life. Though Margie and Gil make strange superhero parents, this is the first time Logan feels like he has a home. Sure he might not have the typical definition of a “family” but he’s finally in an environment where he can truly be himself. This book has a lot of conversation surrounding prejudice, being neurodivergent, and bullying. It validates younger readers and helps them to celebrate their differences and learn to appreciate themselves and what makes them unique.
"Guess I’ve just grown up expecting the weird stuff to happen because it always has. Worrying about what’s ‘normal’ . . . it’s just a waste of time.” And I understood what she was saying, so I nodded . . . but I was also kind of amazed. Every day that I can remember— and I can remember just about all of them since that day in the airport— I’ve woken up wondering whether there is such a thing as normal and if so, what it feels like."
This is a really fun and exciting book for younger readers. I love how action-packed the book is from beginning to end. Throughout the story, the reader is constantly feel entertained and the characters were appealing to the reader. While the book had is geared towards fans of superheroes and I think this narrative appeals to a wider audience. It’s a really beautiful story about acceptance, loving yourself, and celebrating your differences. It also discusses what makes a family and found families as Logan deals with the obstacles of being in the foster care system and so I just examine a lot of lenses of life. I really enjoyed this book and I appreciated the positive message that it had to bring to its main intended audience.
What's a neurodivergent kid who's placed with foster parents who act suspiciously just as L.A. is hit by freak lava-spewing earthquakes to do? If you're Logan Foster, and you happen to have an eidetic memory, you might find yourself uncovering a secret world of superheroes who live among us fighting supervillains bent on destroying the world. You might get roped into the shenanigans, along with your new neighbor, Elena, the only person who's treated you like a friend and not a freak. A highly entertaining, fun, and funny book with just the right amount of family and friendship feels.
Funny, fast, action-packed and sweet, Logan Foster is a savvy kid with a soft side. Framed as a tale told to his yet-to-be discovered sibling, Logan's story grabs readers and holds on tight. A great debut that will steal kids away and into the story.
An amazing debut from Peters that will have kids and their adults on the edge of their seats and wanting more from Logan Foster! Action, adventure, superheroes, and villains will have you hooked from the first page! You'll be rooting for Logan the entire way! If action, adventure and a heartwarming tale about family and belonging interests you, The Unforgettable Logan Foster will be one that you'll want to get your hands on as soon as it releases!
An absolute delight! This is an addition to the superhero genre that I didn’t know I needed, but couldn’t be happier to have. Logan Foster had an eidetic memory, a knack for saying things he shouldn’t, and a pair of superhero foster parents. This fast paced middle grade is sure to be a crowd pleaser!
This is one of the best action books for Juvenile/Middle Grade fiction that I have read in a long while! The main character and narrator, Logan, is an orphaned neurodivergent boy with an eidetic memory who is placed with foster parents that are harboring secrets. Logan's ability to remember every detail of everything he has seen or heard, along with his constant need to align with facts is both a blessing and a curse in this story full of humor and adventure. I was hooked by the first 2 pages of the story when I laughed out loud. This is a book that I will definitely be purchasing for the Library's collection and will probably be recommending for the 2023 Battle of Books in the local school district.
