They weren’t who they pretended to be but when they came together everything made sense. He would protect her and nothing would stand in his way of finding the answers in a race against the clock to save the one he loves. Another great series from Nana Malone!
I couldn't put this book down! Full of sass and steam, Nana Malone really grabbed me with The Assassin in 5F. What a great conclusion to Lyra and Marcus’s story, it’s full of drama, action, suspense and sexy scenes.
This book, oh this book! What a conclusion to the story! There was action, some suspense, a little mystery, and of course a whole lot of steam. The Assassin in 5F was so dang good. I could not put the book down until I had answers. And well by that point I was all in, so I didn't put the book down until it was finished. Such is life. It was completely worth it, and I didn't stay up too late, so it's a win. I will say that when it came to the mystery/who-dun-it section of the story, my mind was all over the place. I had a few suspects in mind, and was not the least bit surprised when it was revealed. I'd love to have a bonus chapter to find out what happened next in that situation. But that's just me.
The Covert Affairs duet was absolutely fantastic, and I highly recommend that you read it.
Lyra and Marcus are back and bring all the steam! These two are red hot. Their arguments are epic and their makeup is explosive. Two people who work for rival firms. There’s some nefarious activities and a betrayal. One of them is a target and they question is why. The two as a couple, no matter that they started their relationship in a bed of lies, were willing to do what it took to keep the other safe. The words may have been lies, but the feelings were nothing but real. Nana Malone knows how to bring the intrigue and suspense, the heart pounding moments, the steam, and the HEA. She is gold!
I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
What a great ending to Nana Malone's Covert Affairs Duet!
We were left with a massive cliffhanger at the end of the The Spy in 3B, and Lyra and Marcus finally figured out that they were both spies working for rival organizations. They were just on the verge of falling in love, and now they're fighting each other because of misconceptions and double dealing within their organizations. But of course Nana Malone gives us a hot, action-packed, satisfying conclusion to their love story.
Lyra is a strong, capable, determined young woman. Marcus is a logical, straight-forward and determined man in love with her. He knows that there is something bigger, something "more" going on, and he's determined to work with Lyra come to the bottom of this mystery so they can actually be together.
I loved the action and drama that Nana Malone created within this story. I love the way that she let the characters fall in love, let them work together, constantly save each other, consistently build their trust through the story.
The audio, narrated by Eboni Flowers and James Joseph, was fantastic. They were both brought passion, drama, and a sense of adventure to this fast-paced story.
The Assassin in 5F picks up where The Spy in 3B ended and cannot be read as a standalone.
Lyra has just shot Marcus . . . and isn’t sure who to trust. But, she knows she can’t quit him either. When assassins keep showing up at her door, she discovers the enemy may be closer than she realized and Marcus just may be the one person she truly can depend on!
I love that even when serious, Marcus and Lyra have such a fun and sexy banter with one another and that it also extends to their sidekicks – Rhodes and Addie.
As the truth starts coming out – and oh, it is a real doozy – and hit squads keep dropping by, Marcus has Lyra’s back no matter what and is willing to battle both the Firm and his own agency, Exodus, to keep her safe and alive.
Action packed with no let up at all, The Assassin in 5F is as unexpected a romance as you can have. I loved every page as these two competing agents fell madly in love. Fun, thrilling, sexy and just a real pleasure to read. 5 stars for both the Assassin in 5F and The Covert Affairs duet!
In conclusion Marcus and Lyra give us a final action packed ride with some serious heat. There is no denying the chemistry. Both characters exceed the expectations set by book one. Lyra is one tough lady. Marcus will go to the end to protect her. After that major cliffhanger from book one, expect to be be even more in love with this couple. The fun and sexy chats continues in this book. Action, suspense, mystery and heat all packed into a relatively quick read. Get ready for some twists and enjoy the ride. Not only are the main characters great, you get some interesting supporting characters.
After the mother of all cliffhangers, we are back in the covert affairs world to figure out how this story of steam and deceit will pan out.
In this final installment, we get to see much more of Lyra and Marcus's relationship, and as such, we get more of the action between the sheets. I was still not very convinced of this couple's chemistry, even with all the steam. It might be a personal preference on this one ( and I try to stay away from that on a review), but I am not sure. I wasn't completely sold on this couple, I can't quite put my finger on it as to why.
The suspense part of the story was there, although it was a bit more predictable than I am used to seeing from Ms. Malone. All in all, an enjoyable read, definitely give it a whirl if you like spy stories and steam!
THE ASSASSIN IN 5F is the second instalment in Nan Malone’s contemporary, adult COVERT AFFAIRS romantic suspense duet focusing on British Exodus agent Marcus Black, and The Firm’s Lyra ‘Adamson’ Wilkinson. THE ASSASSIN IN 5F should be not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one THE SPY IN 3B.
SOME BACKGROUND: British Exodus agent Marcus Black, and The Firm’s Lyra Wilkinson are both Black Ops agents working on opposite sides of the pond, both contracted to take down a terrorist cell but someone has targeted our story line heroine, and in this, Lyra is unable to trust the man with whom she is falling in love.
NOTE: If you have not read book one, there may be spoilers in my review.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Marcus and Lyra) THE ASSASSIN IN 5F picks up immediately after the events of book one in which Lyra believes she has killed Exodus agent Marcus Black, but in the aftermath, someone is gunning to take down our story line heroine. With Marcus’ ‘return from the dead’ Lyra will discover that everything she knows about her life is a series of secrets and lies, and with the help of her best friend Addie, and Marcus’ team at Exodus, Lyra must confront the person responsible only to end up a prisoner of the people in charge. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Marcus and Lyra, and the potential fall-out as secrets, lies and betrayal begin to affect our story line heroine.
The relationship between Lyra and Marcus continues to be fraught with issues of trust. Both have lied to one another about the who, how and why, and in this trust is the leading factor in their relationship going to forward. Lyra is receiving different messages from so called family, friends and co-workers, struggling to believe between what she learned, and what she has been told. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense but for a woman who is unable to trust the man with whom she is falling in love, jumping right back into a sexual relationship is questionable on soooooo many levels.
Once again, we welcome the return of Roz’s best friend and agent Addie Franklin; their boss Roz, and Lyra’s ex Tyler Warden, as well as Marcus’ best friend and partner Rhodes Matheson. I would like to see something develop between Addie and Rhodes.
THE ASSASSIN IN 5F is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, retaliation, accusations, relationships and love. A story of family and friendships, deception and treason. The fast paced, action-packed premise is tragic, gritty, inviting and engaging; the characters are stubborn and spirited ; the romance is edgy, spicy and dramatic.

This is a fantastic conclusion to Lyra and Marcus's story. This picks up where The Spy in 3B left off with intrigue, danger, betrayal, drama and we get answers to some questions while there are still a few mysteries to solve. The banter between Lyra and Marcus is hilarious along with the non-stop action with unexpected twists and turns that will keep me on the edge of my seat. And the sizzling passion is spectacular. The evolution of Marcus and Lyra’s relationship is as thrilling as the intrigue. They have an undeniable connection and hot passion but it’s complicated. It was terrific when Lyra finally gave in to the love and learned to trust. And Marcus never gave up on her and always has her back. This has everything a thrilling romance suspense story should have. Suspense, mystery, action, humor and lots of steamy sex. Fabulous ending!
I really enjoyed this duet. This one was such a thrilling conclusion to Marcus and Lyra's story. I loved reading their story from start to finish. It was full of twists and turns, and suspense. These two also have hot and steamy chemistry, witty banter, and work well together.
Action. Romance. Suspense. Steam. And Nana Malone's impeccable writing! This combination always gives me an unputdownable story. And The Assassin in 5F was no exception.
Marcus and Lyra went from neighbours to match made in dating app to agents who work for two rival secret agencies. The Firm and Exodus. They were made to believe that the other organisation is corrupt and works for terrorists. But a series of life threatening events make Lyra question. Marcus will do anything to protect her. But they are walking through a mine field full of trip wires.
Nana Malone delivered a compact story with lots of explosive secrets and adrenaline filled action sequences. And in middle of all the chaos, Marcus and Lyra have to navigate their emotions. It was definitely an exercise in trust and partnership. Because Lyra's belief and whole life was blown apart and she didn't know if she can trust Marcus. Same goes for Marcus. But there is no denying the sizzling hot chemistry that was just irresistible and that slowly made a connection of hearts. This story gives everything in extemes. The sex. The emotions. The mystery. Lyra is another kickass woman with sass and attitude in plenty. She is reckless and bold and soft. And Marcus is an equal kickass with British accent and Unlimited bossy charm.
The Assassin in 5F is Nana Malone's very own brand where she balances the tension of romantic suspense and sinful passion very smartly.
I reviewed an early copy voluntarily provided by Kobo books and Valentine PR
This is the second book in The Covert Affairs Duet and with it comes the conclusion of Marcus and Lyra’s story. What a ride it is! It is not a standalone and The Spy in 3B must be read first. As we pick up this story, so much has transpired. Marcus and Lyra are at a crossroads deciding on how much they can share with the other without compromising their respective jobs. Their intense chemistry is making things challenging as they do their best to navigate this new situation that they each find themselves in. Filled with drama, suspense, twists and turns, make sure you have some oxygen handy as you follow these two. I recommend this book and cannot wait to see what Ms. Malone has planned next. I volunteered to read a copy of this book provided by Netgalley.
Nana Malone is such a talent in the book world, and I'm not sure I would know what to do with myself if she ever stopped. Every book is highly addictive, super exciting, and full of crazy suspense with amazing characters & The Assassin in 5F is no exception. It's the conclusion to Marcus & Lyra's story so YOU MUST READ The Spy in 3B (Book 1). This round is more intense, so much hotter, and the twists coming in hot are even bigger. There's humor in spades as well as the journey of these two isn't without hilarious interactions and/or situations LOL! I'm deliberately being vague because there's so much goodness in these pages that you really need to experience them for yourselves! You absolutely do NOT want to miss out on this extremely original duet so you know what to do! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Lyra and Marcus are back and this starts off with a bang and gets steamier and more mysterious than the first book. The author takes us on a wild ride and we get to see more of Marcus and Lyra outside of the lies. It was exciting.
Steamy…check. Suspenseful…check. Action packed…check. If those are all things you like in a romance book make sure to check this one out! I absolutely loved Lyra and Marcus together. This book was action packed from the very begging! There was never a dull moment! I pretty much read this book in one sitting! What a great ending to the duet! This is not a standalone so you will need to read the first book first. Nana Malone has become a must read author of mine! I just love her writing! I absolutely recommend this book!!
Received a arc for a honest review.
After the cliffhanger at the end of the Spy in 3B I could not wait to read this book.
Lyra and Marcus have undeniable chemistry despite being part of opposing spy organizations. They were unable to stay away from each other and it was really interesting watching their relationship evolve. Everything from the romance to the mystery to the action felt more intense and emotional. There were also some great secondary characters who I hope get books of their own! I really couldn't put the book down because I wanted to see how they would get their HEA.
You definitely need to read The Spy in 3B before diving into this one, but it's well worth the read.
As always Nana Malone killed it with this book! I absolutely love Marcus and Lyra! The chemistry between them is absolutely explosive and so very hot. This book is packed full of action, drama, and a whole lot of steam. Then there’s Roz and her special brand of crazy. That chick is 5,000 shades of screwed up. I have loved this series and would definitely recommend it.
The Assassin in 5F picks up right where we leave off in The Spy in 3B, so you’ll want to read The Spy in 3B right before this because there is a cliffhanger in between.
This was a satisfying conclusion to The Spy in 3B. Without giving too much away from what happens at the end of SI3B, Lyra and Marcus both know now that they’re working for competing/enemy agencies. Both are convinced the other works for a terrorist organization, but who is correct? They’re not quite sure they can trust each other, but both feel something isn’t right about their agencies, so they decide to work together to figure out what’s going on.
There was more suspense and more steam in this one than SI3B. Something is up and it’s up to them to figure it out. They’re both protective of each other and although are capable of handling themselves, I felt like they were both better with each other. They need each other. They can’t help but be drawn to each other, even though they’re technically enemies, because their chemistry is so hot. I loved the banter between the two.
I don’t know if Ms. Malone has any more books planned for this world, but would love to see more of Addie because I just loved her and I feel like she and Marcus’ buddy Rhodes would be perfect if she decides to roll with more of these. They both provide banter and comedic relief and would be fun in their own story.
Overall, I really enjoyed this duet and recommend both be read together.
I was provided an ARC for an honest review
This was a good conclusion to a thrilling duet, although I would of loved it if the second half was even longer/went into more detail, as so much was unloaded on us with not all the answers. Definitely didn't make it a bad book in the slightest, I just felt like a rabbit in front of a dangling carrot. I'm a sucker for the nitty gritty when I'm invested.
Hope we see the characters again in the future as the secondary ones also intrigued me.
