I enjoyed the recipes and the author's enthusiasm. My only issue was finding some of the ingredients, I had a few recipes that called for stuff I struggled to find.
The title of Nachos for Dinner caught my eye right away. I mean hello! Who doesn't love nachos??? Not only are there nachos for dinner, but also for breakfast, lunch, and dessert!!! This was an absolutely fun cookbook to flip through, and I am going to definitely try out several of these recipes. If you love nachos, and who doesn't, and want some traditional takes on nachos as well as some super creative twists, you need to add this cookbook to your collection!! I can't wait to try French Onion Nachos, Buffalo Chicken Nachos, Cobb Salad Nachos, Lasagnachos, Scallion Pancake Nachos, Pretzel and Brat'chos, and even Apple Pie Nachos for dessert.
I like it! This was a fun and creative way to eat nachos for dinner. It had some good recipes that I hadn't really thought of a possibility for nachos before. Great pictures too, always appreciate those in a cookbook.
As a lover of Nachos, especially trash nachos this book is inspiring!
I can't wait to try the variations suggested in this cookbook. For those of us that can use a little bit of inspiration in your nacho game this book fits the bill.
I would like to thank the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an advance copy of this title in exchange for an unbiased review. Unfortunately the copy in the copy I received the text is quite jumbled up making it very difficult to read. I did however look through the entire book and it seems quite comprehensive and offers some good ideas which are easy for most people to achieve at home. I look forward to reading through the title once again once it is released.
Nachos for Dinner celebrates the wonderfulness of nachos. I appreciate it telling me how to make chips (and buying store brand is acceptable). The cookbook includes best suggestions for delicious melty cheese too. From there it talks about everything from toppings to whole meals all with nachos. The author doesn't hate my go to of making nachos by melting cheese on chips in the microwave but this book goes away beyond that. The only reason it doesn't get more stars from me is that many recipes do not include photos. For this type of speciality cookbook photos are a must. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a temporary ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review.
It is said we eat with your eyes first. If that is the case, readers are eating a lot of paper. Cookbooks in our library collection MUST have pictures of most of the recipes or it collects dust on the shelf and is eventually weeded. For that reason, books with pictures of the recipes are the only books we add.
While this little book of snacks is not likely to take a permanent place next to my Fannie Farmer, it is fun and imaginative. Lots of recipes for the basics--a nice Nacho Cheese Sauce and vegan variation, too, along with a terrific batch of salsa recipes. We stuck with the basics, Green Tomatillo and Roasted Tomato, but also tried a couple of Crema variations--the Avocado Crema was particularly yummy. The big hit with my youngest grandson was the Cheesy Bacon Potato Chipchos, since I didn't have any tortilla chips in the house the day I set eyes on this book. He was also very very pleased with the Chicken Parm Not-Chos, a made from scratch chicken parm version, while hubs snarfed the Beef Bulgogi Nachos so fast, it was a good thing I'd tasted them in the kitchen before serving him and the grandboys. This book is filled with ways to use ordinary and inexpensive food in new and entertaining presentations. Biscuit and Gravy Nachos is another example. It's pretty much the same old thing, but arranged on a sheet pan to serve a crowd, topped with cheese and broiled until melty and, well, just plain yummy.
This is a fantastic book for anyone just starting out or the experienced cook. If you love nachos or tacos or any type of Mexican food this book is a must. Easy to use. Easy to find ingredients and great pictures. I will be buying this book for myself and for my library!
This short, clearly written cookbook is a lot of fun! There are recipes for all the components of nachos, including carne asada and chicken tinga (my personal favorite), salsas, and cheese sauces - there are even desserts! There are charts detailing what you need to make good nachos (crunchy, creamy, acid, cheese) so you can follow along at home and make changes as needed.
Dan Whalen has an easy-going writing style and includes a little bit of background on each recipe. I loved the recipes - most are made with ingredients you probably have on hand, but some will find you shopping in the international section and maybe expanding your palate.
I'm not sure if I got the full text in the ARC; there are photos of 5 or 6 desserts, but only three recipes in that section. Otherwise, this is a great book of recipes for nacho lovers. Even if I don't serve these for dinner, I'll definitely be cooking up some of these.
My thanks to Workman Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was really looking forward to reading this book. Unfortunately, despite repeated attempts, I could not get it to download properly on my ebook reader. The text was all jumbled together on top of each other. Therefore, I cannot offer a proper review.
This is one of my favorite foods and also the kids I work for. This has such great and tasty recipes and ideas that I cannot wait to try them all lol
Y’all I was ridiculously excited for this book. We love nachos for dinner in my family but we’ve gotten into a rut. This book to the rescue! There’s different sauces and salsas. Different meats. It’s a choose your own adventure book for nachos! There’s even breakfast and dessert nachos! Wild right? I can’t wait to make everything. We are going to work are way through the book.
I love nacho and was excited about the possibilities this book could provide; however, I was disappointed with the outcome. Dan Whalen has creative ideas, but there wasn't anything outstanding or unusual about the recipes. My favorite part of the book were the charts that showed how to create your own combinations. Thank you NetGalley for an e-ARC of Nachos for Dinner by Dan Whalen.
At first glance this book is amazing. And then at second and third glance, it's even better. This cookbook has enough variety to appeal to meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans alike. The recipes are fun and creative. This would make a great gift or just a fun Friday activity!
Nachos for Dinner is a fun niche cookbook that will appeal to Tex-Mex lovers and those looking for new ways to spice up this favorite dish. You’ll find traditional flavor combos as well as ways to incorporate vegetables and flavors from around the world. I loved the dessert nacho section at the end; this is a unique cookbook to add to your kitchen library.
Thank you Workman Publishing Company and NetGalley for this ARC.
The problem I have with this book is that some of the ingredients you will either only find in America, or you have to google to find a British Alternative.
This is definitely a niche cookbook, with some good ideas, but not suitable for the British market.
I love this book! So many different ways to eat nachos! Traditional, Indian or Greek style, Korean-Tex-Mex mashup and sweet are some of the interesting flavors shown in this book. I'm so excited to try these recipes! It's a very colorful and organized book, easy to follow and the photos are mouthwatering! I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
