i really like the name of this book for some reason. It definitely is what attracted me to this, i love making and eating nachos. One thing I didn't really like was the cover of the book. The colour combination does nothing to me.
i will be holding onto a copy of this for the foreseeable future, i loved 90% of the recipes, which is not the usual for me. Some of these recipes were so original and i am excited to try them.
Trashy microwave nachos is my new personality.
How much fun is this book? I love it. From the beginning it drew me in to read the information and stories before you get to the recipes. The introduction gave a brief history of nachos to the buildings blocks of making great nachos. The headings were cute and fun. It made me smile!
Even the recipes gave a story, hints and variations and notes. And not only that the recipes are easy and delicious. I found I could easily whip up the recipes and had most of the ingredients in my cupboard.
Need I say more. What is better than an easy, fun and tasty recipe book especially if it is Mexican. Spicy!
This cookbook is unique and perfect for the times. The option of making the similar forms of food with different ingredients is exactly what millennials look for. The prologue of this cookbook is a great start to how to make ideal nachos. How to make nachos with different layers and ingredients was my favorite part. The different ingredients, while the typical ones, were good ones.
I'd definitely recommend this for gift giving and summer parties.
This will be a fun addition to popular culinary collection. It is easy to get stuck in a rut when it comes to making nachos, I usually make something similar to what this book calls Trashy Microwave Nachos. The recipes here mesh nachos with all kinds of other familiar foods like Cobb salads, Italian subs, lasagna and more, I especially find the idea of Cheesesteak Nachos intriguing. It all starts with a section called “Nacho School” which includes the basics: a breakdown of what kind of chips are best for nacho building, cheese sauce recipes includes a great looking recipe for Vegan Nacho Cheese Sauce, different types of salsas and guacamole, cremas, and beans.
Happy hour anyone?

The cover is pleasing to the eye but let’s be honest…. If you grab this book then you instantly know what your getting. Nachos!
What did I like? This book takes nacho love to the nth power! The book gives you all the ingredients, condiments, and meats to make your nacho love expand. From Guacamole to Pico de Gallo, carnitas to flank steak, and some sweet desserts as well. I love nachos and I can’t wait to try some of the recipes. Not every recipe had a picture but ideally there is something in this book for every nacho lover!
Would I recommend or buy? Absolutely yes! The recipes look great and it was very enjoyable to go through the variations. If you love your nacho bar then grab this book for some great cooking fun!
I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review!
Confession: I'm a lover of nachos, so this book automatically had my buy-in. With that said, what I really like about this book is that it's intended for the user to mix and match different recipes depending on what their interest is. There's something for everyone, regardless of what their dietary specifications are. It's a chip cookbook, a salsa cookbook, a condiment cookbook, a bean cookbook, a meat cookbook, and more. Recipes are simple and unfussy, without too many specialty ingredients. Recipe pairings are recommended, but everything is flexible. All in all, I would say that this niche cookbook is a great gift for the nacho lover in your life, but is also a great pick for a library that will see a lot of circulation off of a book display. Nachos are for everyone.
I received Nachos for Dinner as part of a NetGalley giveaway.
Nachos are a regional Tex-Mex cuisine turned mainstream American favorite, and in Nachos for Dinner Dan Whalen offers an array of twists on the 'classic' dish.
About half the book is dedicated to more traditional Mexican toppings--salsa, guacamole, seasoned beef or fish, etc.--while the other half plays with the concept a bit more, utilizing flavors from Asia, Italy, Greece, India, and the Middle East, among others. It's a fun, bright cookbook perfect for summer, but also for cozy comfort meals on chillier nights.
These are not your stadium nachos! Nachos have been taken up about 10 steps in this book. So many of them look good that football season can't get here fast enough to try them. There's the usual nachos with chips and cheese sauce with a recipe to make your own cheese sauce, which I will be doing that. But shrimp and grits nachos??!! That is next level nachos. Italian sub nachos will be a tailgate food this fall at my house. And things you never thought of being made into nachos are included like French onion soup. And desserts are not left out either there are several sweet nachos that will be certain to satisfy your sweet tooth.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This cookbook had some delicious recipes in it. But it also had some recipes that didn't seem to fit in the category of nachos.
I’m having trouble writing this, because I’m salivating to get to the kitchen and start cooking some nachos! Drool is real!
The title of this book is deceptively simple. What do you find inside it’s not simply your run-of-the-mill “throw some cheese, beans, meat, and veggies on top of some store-bought chips” recipes. This is a legit cookbook with international and varied regional offerings.
And it’s not just dinner nachos! There are nachos for any meal , situation, mood or style - and even dessert. Suggestions are made using a wide array of “bases” and although sometimes the recipes stray a little bit off a real “nacho” course, that’s forgiven because the ideas are so creative, delicious and appealing. I just want to throw an Everything Nachos party tonight!
I really loved the first chapter which introduces recipes for different cheese sauces (including a vegan one!), slaws, salsas, and chips, Not to mention guacamoles, beans, meats, and even side dish veggies to compliment your creations.
The pictures are a great bonus as is the conversion table in the back
I’m not a huge “chef” and don’t particularly enjoy cooking, but this cookbook might just convert me!
As a nacho LOVER, I was excited to get my hands on this book. While I haven't tried making anything out of it yet, I think it delivered. Approx 60 of the first pages cover nacho basics - making or selecting chips, making cheese sauce, and making basic salsas, beans, slaws, cremas, meats, etc. (Includes vegan and vegetarian options too). From here, there are SO many great options of what you could do.
The rest of the book has a mix of recipes bringing together these basics with other ingredients. Many of these recipes don't require any great stretch of imagination to think about enjoying - street corn nachos, caprese nachos, spinach artichoke "dipchos", plantain nachos with carnitas and black beans, and more. Others require some more imagination like burger or hot dog nachos, Italian sub nachos, or nachos using other bases like chicken (e.g. chicken parm not-chos or lasagn'chos). It even ends with some dessert nacho ideas like apple pie nachos (using pie crusts) and smore nachos (using graham crackers).
There's perhaps a question of cultural appropriation to be considered, though the author notes this up front and does little to sell this as an "authentic" Mexican cookbook, and he draws liberally from all sorts of cultural dishes here.
Most of the recipes look pretty straightforward and not overly complicated. Rarely does anything have more than one page of instructions (however - recipes often point back to basic recipes - e.g. a meat, a salsa, etc. and this could add to the complexity pretty quickly. Many of these items have shortcuts - you could easily pull in premade salsa, chips, beans, etc. and home-make other elements!
All in all, I can't wait to give some of these a try!
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a recipe book that focuses on different kinds of nachos. Whalen talks about how he's not trying to "improve" nachos so much as trying new things.
I was surprised that Whalen is so shocked at the idea of nachos for dinner. My experience eating nachos for dinner is pretty normal. This book talks about how to serve different foods "nacho-style". There aren't as many pictures as I'd like for a recipe book, but the pictures included are nice.
The start of the book breaks down nachos in different ways - a crunch, a sauce, etc. as well as ratios for each. The rest of the book is nacho-ified recipes from traditional meals to desserts. I like the concept, but most of the ideas are cut up these things and stack them on each other. Rearranging chicken and waffles doesn't make it into nachos instead of chicken and waffles.
Overall an interesting idea, but not for me.
This is one of my favorite cookbooks I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing, and I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and Workman Publishing Company.
This title should have come with a warning that it may cause you to go on a nacho bender because the varieties are some varied and so delicious you won’t be able to stop yourself…if that happens though, you’re not alone and it’s nacho fault!
What I liked most about this cookbook was that it started by first covering all the major components of nachos (salsas, queso, meats, homemade tortilla chips) so that you can mix and match on your own, which serves to multiply how many different types of nachos you can try.
My wife and I have been eating nachos for about a week straight now thanks to Nachos For Dinner and I’m confident we’ll be consulting the recipes within on a regular basis because they are that darn good.
I appreciate the author deviating from the traditional tex-mex varieties as well so that you can still have nachos but indulge in whatever cuisine you’re craving on any given night.
Food lovers everywhere should be lining up to buy Nachos For Dinner, and taking a week’s vacation so they can indulge on that nacho bender they deserve!
Who doesn’t love Nachos. They are perfect whether you want a snack or something more filling. There are numerous recipes with different variations of ingredients so there is something for everyone. There are even desert recipes with Nachos.
